Refined, sonorous, clean and very moving…no extraneous forte as some performers tend to add, he doesn’t add extra flourishes to broken chords or ornamentation which is beautiful. The hardest thing is simplicity.
What a miraculous performance! Real masterpeace. This playing touched my soul and body at once. My emotions were appearing and raising, just to break into catharsis. Thank You God for Eric. ❤️
There's now a controversy as to whether the repeat should include the Grave. Personally I think to include the introduction again makes both a harmonic and psychological nonsense. Anyway this is one of those sonatas where to repeat the exposition is damaging to the structure and impetus. That's also true of the B minor sonata and many Schubert sonatas.
Lol. Yes, editions disagree with one another (as do performers) about where to start the repeat. It has been that way since the piece was written. One of the original manuscripts actually has the repeat at the very beginning, as do many editions, both old and new.
The way he lets the melody just SING!! Wonderful.
I saw Eric play this last night at LSO St Luke's in London. Absolutely stunning and mesmerising.
Finally, a pianist who lingers over and lavishes on us the beauty of the climax of the first movement development.
When I watched and listened during the Leeds, I truly thought my heart would stop. A masterpiece! Thank you, Eric🌟
The most emotionally powerful performance of this sonata I think I've ever heard! Speechless
Bravo. There is purity and simplicity in his playing. Here's hoping it stays that way.

Absolutely inspiring performance, that tone is so pure and singing, so musical and intelligent, Chopin would be proud!
Chopin resides in his beautiful world of music and in our hearts! He is still living and he's immortal...
Oh! Blooming WOW!!!Loved the feeling put into this.Eric Lu & Chopin, THE combination. That requires only 1 more thing, FULL VOLUME!!!!
What a miraculous performance! Real masterpeace. This playing touched my soul and body at once. My emotions were appearing and raising, just to break into catharsis. Thank You God for Eric. ❤️
I've never heard such an awesome performance...! I love his Chopin.
My fav version of this piece:)

Very passionate and committed account, bravo! Very natural Chopin player and worthy prize winner in Warsaw and here the gold in Leeds.

The best of the best..amazing..♡♡♡
I am speechless..Divine.
Super Eric chciałabym abyś byl moim gościem w Hiszpanii
I żebyś przekazał to uczucie miłości Chopina do swojej ojczyzny Polski. Hasta pronto Eric.
Very interesting choice to repeat the Exposition from the Grave Introduction...
magic..mesmerising.
2:27 Isn’t the repeat bar AFTER those introductory 4 measures? That caught me off guard. Stunning performance nonetheless.
The Henle edition actually has the repeat at the Grave, not the Doppio movimento, but maybe other editions have it the other way.
yeah that sound weird to me as well

At 15:01 the thumb should be on G flat, but he plays B flat.
It is the ossia in Ekier edition. Not mistake.
@@lubosschelepak7032 That's sad. G flat sounds better.
Yes. I also like g flat and I play it so:)
2:26 wtf
