wanted to talk about quitting Twitch and why I think the direction it is going is bad for new content creators. Do you guys think it's possible for a new creator to make it on Twitch 2023? I think yes, but... not many will.
Twitch has always been dominated by 1% megastreamers with 99% also-rans. No reason to expect that to change. I suspect the main way to advance to the proverbial 1% is filling openings created when older streamers retire or when big names get abandoned after people find out how toxic they are. No shortage of either aspiring streamers or audience for the next few years, at least until Amazon really messes it up.
I think growing as a streamer is similar to growing a business; you need to choose a niche and give viewers a reason to watch. On top of that you also need to market yourself. The CSGO community already has their established streamers who, as you said, already have a schedule and stream 8+ hours daily.
I didn't watch you on Twitch too much tbh. Busy life, kids, kids etc. But I've been watching you on RUclips since before 'the face reveal'. The only guy who I still watch every video without fail and now my son does the same. Keep it up man. All the best X x
Videos like this are exactly the reason I watch you. I visited this channel for the CS News and insight, and stuck around for the personality. Your perspective and how genuine you are is something that I aspire to have. Wishing you lots of success.
I stopped playing CS a few years ago (Rocket League took over) but I never stopped watching WarOwl. The videos are just so good. My friend just got back into CSGO after years and years of not having a PC and the first thing I told him is to watch WarOwl's videos.
Thanks I appreciate it! I am going to be experimenting with new types of vids in the new year, so you may like some of the new stuff if you're not into the CS gameplay stuff I did the last 3 years.
@@TheWarOwl I know it's a long shot but I would love to see you try to tackle something like Rocket League (hey it has zero RNG!). To see how you approach a game that has no mechanical crossover (not a shooter). I think it would be really similar to your USMC pull-up challenge.
Damn WarOwl why’d you have to go so hard in there. I remember subbing to you back in 2014, it’s amazing to see how far you’ve come. I’m glad you made the right decision and followed what you really enjoy doing, rather than doing something you don’t.
With the stress in my life, WarOwl, I need more goofy. Your videos - even ones like this - provide a bit of a respite from my daily troubles. That's why I watch; you're providing a service to benefit my mental health.
Surprise Towa appearance at 1:49. That the tab is sorted by most viewers in your region makes it even better. Looks like it's time for WarOwl to bust out a Live2D model and to join us in the Vtuber rabbit hole. Though in all seriousness: the Twitch viewer experience really has been going downhill overall in the past two years. Aside from the aggressive preroll ads, the video player is my biggest issue. I can watch Blast tournaments on YT in 1440p and 4k resolutions and DVR is instant. The Twitch stream on the other hand is still max 1080p and DVR is a mess.
Wow, I'm really grateful to see my name imortalized on your wall. The reason why I always wanted to support you and your channel, is because your content is what really introduced me to the game that I fell in love with, and that probably will be my favourite game of all time. That's why I always stayed as a sub on twitch, even though I didn't have much time to follow the streams over the past few months. Videos like this show me, that it definitely was the right decision to always support this channel, even in times where I had to take a hiatus from the game. You were always one of the most genuine and honest personalities in the CS:GO community, who never was afraid of speaking out on issues and controversial topics in the community. That's something I have a lot of respect for. You always seemed to care more for what's best for the players and the community, then what's best for the growth of the channel, and you we're always ready to make some "uncomfortable" decisions or say no to a lot of money (for example back when CS:GO-gambling was a huge thing), if it was the right thing to do. I just wanted to say "Thank you" for that. You deserve a lot of respect, and that's why I will continue to support this channel, no matter if it's on Twitch, RUclips or any other platform. Thank you, Warowl!
Damn WarOwl, I'm not thanking you for making me realize I'm getting old...I started watching back in ~2014, when you were "just" a voice. And I can't thank you enough for your content, and most importantly, your honesty/integrity/uprightness(?)...in other words, you are genuine and that's appreciated. Happy 2023 btw !

I don't play CSGO anymore and I still watch your videos because you're entertaining and even when it's not a CSGO video, the insights and the way you present it is what makes your video impactful to me. Keep creating, WarOwl!
I'm super happy that you're jumping over to RUclips fulltime, do something you are passionate about and hopefully people will gather to support. I for one will try to always be here to give you that watch time and thumbs up! Genuinely enjoy all of your YT content ❤Much love from California ❤
Tbh a lot of us are from Europe and couldn't catch you live often in twitch, but I remember when I was fresh in CS:GO and was amazed by your tutorials back in 2015. I wanted more of you and I watched whenever I could on Twitch.
I've been chosing your content over others for many, many years now and if you don't stop creating content, I'll probably be watching for another 10+ years. Always friendly, educational, funny, no gambling crap and constantly on top in terms of quality! You simply deserve every single click, view, like and sub! Best of luck to you outside of twitch!
1:49 That is in fact an Apex Legends livestream, it's just in Japanese and being streamed by a Hololive VTuber (which is a real person playing a game behind an animated avatar)
That last part you said about us choosing to watch you, over millions of clips - that's all because of you buddy. Thank you for sharing your time and passion with us. Keep doing what you like!
I admire how honest you are with yourself and your viewers. Being brave enough to admit that something doesn't work and leave it for good is one of the many things I like about you.
You were the first person that I subscribed to on Twitch and - while I subscribed to other channels over the more than 7 years - you're the only one who I never unsubscribed from for even a single month. I'm still subbed, too. I was so close to the 100 months that I decided to keep it going until the counter hits 3 digits. Still, I was somehow surprised to see my name on the panel. Thanks for all the good content you've made so far and for everything that's still to come!
I rarrely watched you on twitch (mostly because I rarely watch twitch), but I gotta say you are one of the few creators I'd genuienly follow through onto different platforms I love your sincerity, competitive spirit (for both improving your gaming and content skills) and level-headiness when discussing various topics Respect 👍
I really love how the background is coming together with all you great accomplishments. Hope the last panel can be soloq to global panel. With all the things you do, you're gonna need even more panels!
I was SergeantBrown on Twitch, popped in once every blue moon essentially, but I remember some of the guys in the panel from the few times I got in and had a chat, like curepikachu, azalea, xanbot, and I think ninjadeer and buttercak3 as well? It was a nice ride while it lasted, and I definitely don't blame you for abandoning ship at the first sign of a leakage -- odds are it's not getting fixed anyway. See ya next video, man.
I want to get the attention of this comment, it's important - Twitch is owned by Amazon, and they have a record for doing the SAME thing that you mentioned with sellers - they see what is the top selled product and make a copy of it, let's say it's a smart microwave - but for the similar product they don't need to pay for the research - product is already there and they just need to copy-paste it with a few changes, and in the same time, they don't pay for research, statistics, advertisement, because this is the information that they already have - Amazon is now popular with stealing popular products and making copies of it. Another example is AWS, a cloud provider, owned by Amazon, they literally do the same thing that you mentioned - stealing open-source product without investing in it, and selling it as a service - there was a popular scandal about a year ago with the popular open-source project, called ElasticSearch, which was forced to change the usage policy in order to not be ripped off by Amazon - guess that they did? They copy-pasted the open-source project and made their own version of it. If something is owned by Amazon company, make sure that they will try to quiz all of the money from it - sooner or later! BTW Google, the company that holds RUclips, has exactly the opposite mindset - they are the biggest investor in open-source projects like Android, Chromium, Linux, and like 10 000 more projects that everyone uses for free. See RUclips - you can have 8k video uploaded for free, you can have 10 hours videos in length - for free. I just love how they do business, totally the right approach.
So glad to hear that you prefer RUclips ! I don't watch twitch, but can't wait to check every video you upload :D Even rewatching old unbox fragatron or road to global videos
Love you war owl. I've never commented or subbed or anything, I've never even played CSGO, but just wanted to say that I've been watching you for years and really appreciate you. I've stuck around because of your personality and how entertaining your videos are and feel like you're a friend, even if it is one way
WarOwl, I cannot state how much your videos matter to me and my friends and I’m dead serious about that. When ever you upload, I get exited and watch your videos the second I’m available too. Keep up the wonderful work :)
God bless you Warowl ❤ been watching since before your face reveal, remember you coming out as christian. You're a very genuine person, thanks for the years and years of content, both entertaining and thought provoking.
I sometimes stream on twitch to my niche viewers. I play NES Tetris and our community is rather small so twitch brings us all together and allows us to play matches against one another. The smaller streams are where it's at, especially if you have a niche
Last time I played csgo on regular basis was in 2018, but I still watch your channel and 3kilksphilip's channel regularly. You guys have style of content that is irreproducible by other youtubers
Hey, your content is far from just goofy. You got inspiring words mixed with content about playing competitive Counterstrike while the map is shrunken to half its size. Your commentary is not only to amuse but also to get oneself thinking. And that close to 1.5m subscribers deem it worth watching. Here's to hoping that the fourth panel gets filled in with yet another important milestone soon!
Many RUclipsrs I followed moved to Twitch (Jericho, ImmortalHD) and their youtube content took a dive or outright stopped. Glad you are sticking around.
Thank you! Your content turned a few of my dark days into meh days and then into days. I am grateful for your dedication. Thanks to you I did not end my own life at some point....just because I got a notification that you posted a video. I want to buy you a beer sometime and just have a conversation. Hope to meet you some day. Keep up the good work and much much respect from a random guy in Romania. Thank you!
hope you're doing better! This is something I learned from my own experiences: depression and negative thoughts come like a storm, with terrifying fury, but storms always pass, and the sun shines again.
I haven't played csgo in well over 5 years now, never really was that serious about it in the first place. The game has a special place in my heart since I grew up on 1.6, but I've been watching your videos for years not because I still care about the game, but because you're an entertaining guy and your effort really shows. That plus I love your mindset on game design (counter strike good call of duty bad)
been subbed for a long time always loved this channel. Do what you love bc it does show in the content. ty for the entertainment these past years and I cant wait to see what's next!
You're probably the only RUclipsr whose videos I watch immediately without thinking twice about clicking on because I know whatever you're gonna show is always good and way better than what RUclips is filled with these days
Think about all the kids in the 90s and 2000s that all wanted to be pro skateboarders or pro snowboarders ect. There was only a few people in each sport that made enough to live off. Most of them had/have to get 9-5 jobs to live.
yeah that's true for ANYTHING like that, how many people want to make it in music, sports, etc. Almost none do! As someone who 'made it' doing something cool like that, it's tough for me to be objective in saying it was worth it, so I don't want to give people false hope.
Tbh, I never watched you on Twitch simply due to my life being busy, but I do remember sending you a fan email and me being shocked as hell that you actually replied to it. I've been watching your videos for years at this point and while I've stopped playing CS since valorant came out, you content is still as entertaining as ever. Keep up the good work, and remember that regardless of where you decide to make content, there will be tons of people like me still following you.
You should take that original poster of names, cut out each name, and mail it to that member of the community :) that way they have a tangible connection to your stream setup
You hit the nail on the head. Twitch, like most platforms in the platform economy needs to make back the VC money it sunk in order to kill the competition. Twitch is just the start, Uber, JustEat, Fiverr will all end up the same
It's a great example of what happens when a business has both infinite backing and immense draw leading to a functional monopoly. Twitch simply doesn't need to care about longevity because they have Amazon to back them
For anyone wondering the background song that starts at 1:10, David Wise - Disco Train. This was actually off of the soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country 2 back on the SNES. Good memories. Maybe the WarOwl could do a playthrough of the series.
Similarly to RUclips, ads were unpopular initially, and then people adapted as we always do. It’s likely that for those that find the ads annoying they will be able to buy a twitch subscription to have them removed, like RUclips premium
The only creators I've personally seen that started recently are Vtubers who are with agencies (NIJISANJI, Hololive, etc.), or just any creator with a big name behind them - so even if they just start out, they'll have the name of a pretty big agency behind them. I honestly think it's close to impossible - if not completely impossible - to start out from scratch nowadays and get the numbers needed to actually support themselves. Heck, I've been streaming for over 5 1/2 years now (albeit on-and-off) and I've gotten like 0 traction. So if it even is possible to get traction from scratch, it'll probably be one of the hardest and least enjoyable things someone can do.
Having left csgo many many years ago, going into siege and now for like 3 years playing tarkov... i still enjoy your content, enjoyed it throughout time irrelevant of what i was playing. I'll stick around for as long as you stick around owlman. As always, here on youtube.
I've been using RUclips premium or whatever you want to call it since it was available. I appreciate you as a creator and the content you make and I look forward to what you have for 2023.
As a Eagle Scout for over 10 years (I feel old too) I am very familiar with the conversation you had with your Scoutmaster about making a choice on your focus. Thanks for sharing that story @TheWarOwl
1:47 "big" RUclips live channels are mostly dominated by vtubers in the Asian region, but just as the same as at Twitch, those who watch them primarily enjoy their content as a vtuber, rather than the game they're playing (or you could have your favorite vtuber playing your favorite game, win-win for you i guess)
I just subscribed because of this video. I like how blunt and straight forward you went with your approach. Sometimes you just have to tell it like it is and I can respect that.
Long time fan. Came here for the Tutorials. Stuck around for the casting and now the general entertainment. Wishing you the best of luck You deserve it PS The few games you cast helped me get into watching regular cs. As an intermediate noob, I didnt even know when stuff was good or bad when watching regular streams and your casting helped me bridge that gap in a way that made me so excited for good CS
Yeah it's disgusting to see big steamer just sit on their ass with a bow of food looking at RUclips video; and then put it on their RUclips channel doing next to nothing.
you hit the nail on the head. honestly im impressed that this isnt a mainstream opinion regarding twitch vs youtube streaming. the difference is glaring.
that advice you mentioned your scoutmaster gave you is really great because in the end you can’t split your time between two things even if it’s feasibly possible, what matters is what you as an individual want to spend you time on.
Well this is a bit bitter sweet for me. I used to be subbed to you on twitch back in 2016-2017. Back then you'd have about 200 viewers and if you had fast internet, it was pretty easy to get into sub games. I'll always remember meeting you and tdan and the crew fondly, even though I was long past my cs glory days at that point. Being able to meet, chat, and play with someone I idolized as a kid will always be a fond memory.
Buddy, iv'e been here since you cast your own streams of the pro matches, over the years the content changed, and i do admittedly miss the WarOwl match analysis, but i also love the recent screwing around on random game modes you do now and the shorter videos are easier to commit to. I loved your honest videos about yourself as time passed too. Overall love ya bro! keep 'er lit :)
Been watching you since the early days of csgo, I still remember first time picking up AK47 and yelling wtf is this recoil looked up on RUclips and found your videos, reached GN1 and then popped off in my local lan tournaments, such a proud moment for me. Now csgo feels so distant for me yet whenever I watch your videos, I still feel counter strike is alive.
never miss your videos warowl, i stopped playing fps videos becos of life but ur vids never fail to entertain. Thank you and continue till the day you enjoy it.
The only RUclipsr I would watch every new video posted, watch the whole video from beginning upto the end... You're the reason why my love in csgo doesn't fade away... Thank you for the contents
i know most people are at least vaguely aware that twitch is top heavy with the top streamers staying on top, but the top 200 are holding up half the website, the top 5000 are holding nearly 100% of the audience, and the rest of the more than 800 thousand streamers going live that day are fighting over 0.05% of the audience
This kind of discussion video is much appreciated and welcome. We love CS content, but pls don't shy away from talking about what you love, this is the differential in this channel! I still remember when you've gone out of your way to edit by hand and make alt cameras on h1z1 runs while no one was talking about battle royale. GG!
From 'Stop,Scope,Flick,Fire', here we are. We have been with your ups and downs, I came here for csgo tutorials and stayed around for the amazing content on...well everything you have done so far. The 4th plank is still empty and we cant wait for it to be filled with something incredible. Keep it up Warowl, because you still have no closure :) .
I've been subscribed to your channel WarOwl since 2015, watching the Condition Zero Deleted Scenes walkthrough was a blast and not to mention, the quality and the variety of your CSGO videos. I'll stick around for years to come and I'll keep watching your videos Brent, you're amazing at what you do. Lastly, I'd like if you bring back the community server with viewers, playing some chill games here and there for videos. Bring that back if possible.
Loved your content from day 1 of stumbling upon it. The effort that goes into the videos can be felt through the screen and it's really satisfying to watch the enthusiasm. Love u warowl!
You taught me how to play CSGO, and that is something that has legitimately changed the course of my life. I don’t watch many streams, but I’m so grateful you get to immortalize this last chapter of your career in this way.
Long time viewer from aus, been watching you since your old csgo tutorials that had helped me git gud. stuck around for just how real you and your videos seem to me. Enjoy watching your stuff and will probably more inclined to watch some livestreams of yours now that you're gonna be doing them on youtube.
I find you the most entertaining CSGO creator. Found you on You Tube, Went over to your twitch and now ive gone full circle and continue to watch here. Keep up the great content.
"Why don't you have more viewers" is a positive, not a negative. They're saying "Your content is so good, everyone should be here enjoying it right now." It's high praise Mr Owl.
Been subbed since 2014, glad you’re making the choices you want to make and making sure you have a healthy lifestyle. IM REALLY HOPING THAT LAST PANEL IS FOR SOLOQ TO GLOBAL ELITE
You know what i got bored so just left pc runing with your video and go to eat andd i came back to hear this is Warowl and i still have no closer very nice video
Bro I remember watching a crosshair placement video from you on CSGO a loooong time ago. Just recently I saw your lists on kovaak's and was like hell yea warowl is still doing his thing! As a marketing director, If I were you (and if my content ever got as big) I would be streaming from my own site. The other thing people don't realize is that all they do is try to funnel people towards twitch with all their promotion, when in reality, they could be promoting their own site. Especially if people are finding you on YT. Best of luck bro!

1:49 Konyappi Towa-sama desu!
So glad to hear that you prefer RUclips ! I don't watch twitch, but can't wait to check every video you upload :D Even rewatching old unbox fragatron or road to global videos
1:49 HEY, DON'T SAY "WTF" TO TOWA SAME >:( SHE'S BEAUTIFUL
1:46 TheWarOwl discovers vtubers. That's cute.
I sometimes stream on twitch to my niche viewers. I play NES Tetris and our community is rather small so twitch brings us all together and allows us to play matches against one another.
The smaller streams are where it's at, especially if you have a niche
Thank you WarOwl for continuing to make us high quality content. I can't wait to see what 2023 brings!
This us a great step forward. Keep fighting the good fight. Love you man.
litreally 1984
ok
edgebug
Yeah!
1:48 TMT
Don't go wtf on me because Towa is live!
Lmao, yeah
1:47 "big" RUclips live channels are mostly dominated by vtubers in the Asian region, but just as the same as at Twitch, those who watch them primarily enjoy their content as a vtuber, rather than the game they're playing
(or you could have your favorite vtuber playing your favorite game, win-win for you i guess)
TOWASAMA!
I just subscribed because of this video. I like how blunt and straight forward you went with your approach. Sometimes you just have to tell it like it is and I can respect that.
Bold of you to assume people wouldn't want to watch VTubers play Apex
Long time fan. Came here for the Tutorials. Stuck around for the casting and now the general entertainment. Wishing you the best of luck
You deserve it
PS The few games you cast helped me get into watching regular cs. As an intermediate noob, I didnt even know when stuff was good or bad when watching regular streams and your casting helped me bridge that gap in a way that made me so excited for good CS
Yeah it's disgusting to see big steamer just sit on their ass with a bow of food looking at RUclips video; and then put it on their RUclips channel doing next to nothing.
just gotta understand the reason why! imaging having to fill 10 hours a day of content.
you hit the nail on the head. honestly im impressed that this isnt a mainstream opinion regarding twitch vs youtube streaming. the difference is glaring.
that advice you mentioned your scoutmaster gave you is really great because in the end you can’t split your time between two things even if it’s feasibly possible, what matters is what you as an individual want to spend you time on.
1:49 Towa!!! pog.
i never expected to hear mr owl saying "bitches", but today is the day i guess
Yeah that felt wrong coming from WarOwl
1:49 RIP TOWA
The best way of becomming a succesfull twitch streamer is to have a popular YT account
I don’t understand why they don’t just have banner ads instead of prerolls
Love the chipzel jams in the background. Underrated game and great ost. Also great video :)
Greetings, I, the WarOwl greets you and welcome to Twitch Academy, where you are the star for all... the wrong reasons
We are lucky to have an individual like you in cqgo community hope you get Ws over Ws this year
And I will always tune back in to see what my favourite Content Creator does next. You're the GOAT my man.
The only RUclipsr I would watch every new video posted, watch the whole video from beginning upto the end... You're the reason why my love in csgo doesn't fade away... Thank you for the contents
This is so sweet, keep being true to what you want to do war owl! This just felt good 🥺
i know most people are at least vaguely aware that twitch is top heavy with the top streamers staying on top, but the top 200 are holding up half the website, the top 5000 are holding nearly 100% of the audience, and the rest of the more than 800 thousand streamers going live that day are fighting over 0.05% of the audience
Perpetual WarOwl Supremacy! Keep it up man, we’ll always support you!
Super appreciate the perspective. Loved your content for a long time.
I love how you instantly see Vtubers when you check the games being livestreamed. WarOwl vtuber when?
I can imagine the Owl being rigged to move
You taught me how to play CSGO, and that is something that has legitimately changed the course of my life. I don’t watch many streams, but I’m so grateful you get to immortalize this last chapter of your career in this way.
1:49
Problem? Towa-sama is based.
Love you warowl. Glad I could see you live at least once before the end. Good luck
Love ya man, do what you love! Hope you get your closure
I’ll watch your videos with my goofy time forever 🙌
Bro I remember watching a crosshair placement video from you on CSGO a loooong time ago. Just recently I saw your lists on kovaak's and was like hell yea warowl is still doing his thing! As a marketing director, If I were you (and if my content ever got as big) I would be streaming from my own site. The other thing people don't realize is that all they do is try to funnel people towards twitch with all their promotion, when in reality, they could be promoting their own site. Especially if people are finding you on YT. Best of luck bro!
Came here for guides back in 2018, I quit CSGO for the longest but stayed for the dedication. Appreciate it❤
1:49 jumpscared by hinano, met and towa I did not expect to see my oshis in a warowl video so here I am
oh hey that's kanae to the right too
I've never been much of a twitch guy, I use it only to watch CS tournaments.
Either way, I'm happy to see you more often here in YT.
