Another tip for you…use a tracing wheel on the paper lines before you start piecing. Paper tears away so much more easily. Love your videos and your enthusiasm!!!!
That is beautiful Kris. I loved all your tips. I have done some foundation paper piecing in the past and immediately went to check my ruler, no thin part on mine either. Oh well, it's back to the birthday card. It's an adventurous pattern but the end results are worth it. Loved this video.
I've done a couple of paper pieced blocks and really enjoyed the process. Your table runner is gorgeous!! I really liked the tray tip and I realized I had a whole stack of plastic oversized picnic plates from when years ago just sitting in a cabinet in my utility room. I'm going to give them a try!! Thanks for sharing.
Yay! I love when that happens! I use the trays for everything! They really help. I even use them around the house. Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words! ❤️
Those flower petals look more like giant guitar picks! Can you tell I'm married to a musician who owns even more guitars than I have sewing machines? 🤣
Nice video and cute project. I haven’t seen your blog, so I don’t know if you mentioned these things there. I always sew well past the intersections to try to prevent seams coming open. I also heard a suggestion a long time ago to tear paper from the middle out toward the corners to prevent stitches from coming loose. You just work a little on one side loose and then tear the paper down the center so that you can pull toward each corner. Here’s something I learned the hard way - if you are making copies of FPP patterns on a printer, use an inkjet printer. If you use a laser printer, when you press your pieces the toner can transfer to your iron and then to other pieces you are pressing. Once that toner gets set by heat, it’s on your fabric forever. I always use a pencil to trace the pattern onto the side of the paper where I’ll be placing my fabric. I write the piece number and sometimes the fabric name or color. I don’t have a light box, so I place a flashlight under an upside-down rectangular glass baking dish.
It is adorable and your tips are very helpful. Some of them I knew because I have ventured into the foundation paving piecing world again recently and I love the company. They’re so accommodating. They’re so so helpful and that’s awesome that they sponsor you.
Tip - use paper friendly scissors for pre-trimming the paper pieces. And tape just incase there is an accident and the paper starts to fall apart. A nice looking pattern.
Enjoyed the video and all the tips. I love paper piecing and sometimes do it just for fun. I have a few blocks that I just wanted to try (no purpose in mind for them) that I might put together as a sampler quilt. I usually just use regular copy paper because that’s what I have on hand, but will have to get to a store and pick up a pack of newsprint.
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed this! 🥰 I made the sample with regular copy paper. It certainly can be done with great results. I do like the newsprint better, but copy paper does work fine.
Love love love Sheri's patterns! Doing her Greenhouse Garden now and just love it. The other thing I find works really well in fpp is a water pen. Love my add-a-quarter (and eighth) but would love to find a plus one day. Great tips & reuse of the prairie points tool.
I just have to tell you that you sent me down a rabbit hole and now I am spending money! 😆 First, I didn't realize I had met Sheri years ago until I went to her website! So funny! Next, I need to do this greenhouse pattern! OHHHH my goodness! I love it! Thank you so much!
Beautiful table runner Kris; I love that fabric and your tips are great! I really like paper piecing and I love the results, but I haven't done a lot of it. The trick for me is getting into some kind of "flow", and that's what I struggle with - sometimes it sort of hurts my brain. My dream is someday to make a "New York Beauty" but I feel right now it's more than I want to take on - I need to hone my skills a bit more.
Thank you! YES! That flow is so important, especially with everything being upside down and backwards! Ohhhh, I would also love to make a New York Beauty! Maybe someday!
That is so pretty! I'm not a big paper piecing person. I did make a turtle quilt one time. It's very pretty, but not sure if I would do again, I don't know, love the fabric though.
I completely understand that. It messes with my brain, so I have to be in the right mood to do it. I certainly isn't my go-to technique. I am sure the turtles are adorable!
Very lovely. I like paper piecing. But I was wondering if this would work as an applique instead of messing with all those pieces. Nice to see you Kris! Take care. Marion in Oregon.
I completely agree! Funny story--I thought it was appliqué when I ordered the kit, and apparently MSQC thought that, too, because there was a mistake in the description. Being true to who they are with the great customer service, they offered to exchange it but I opted to keep it and make it. They have fixed the description.
I have never done paper piecing nor have I ever watched a video on it. Just getting a small interest in it. Can you give me a name or link to someone who is easy to understand and not dry and boring who can make it seem like I can do this? Big order, I know. Thanks
Oh, I have just the person for you! The Queen of Foundation Paper Piecing is Carol Doak. Everything I learned, I learned from her. She is amazing! Here is a video to get you started: ruclips.net/video/kV4LRtqIQNA/видео.htmlsi=l5yySbRjG4CQjDz2 Hope this helps!

A birthday card is perfect! LOVE that idea!

Thank you! 😊
Thanks Kris! Great tips and a beautiful table runner.❤
My pleasure! Thanks so much!
I have the Add A Quarter Plus ruler (with the flat edge for folding) and love it. Thank you for the PP tips. Love your Missouri Star acquired fabrics.
I need to get one of those.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching, Joe! ❤️
My husband is also a great helper. He rips chain piecing, tears paper, organizes sewn pieces and counts my stacks of blocks. 😊
Love that! We are blessed woman with great husbands. 🥰
Love the way you quilted your table runner ❤
Thank you! ❤️
Beautiful table runner. Thank you for the tips.
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! ❤️

Thanks so much! ❤️ It is fun, isn't it?
Loved your tips!!!!

I enjoy watching your videos and love your enthusiasm for quilting.
Thank you so much! 😎 I really love quilting. I am happy it shows on camera!
Oh my goodness the table runner is beautiful!!!
I love all your tips but my favorite part of the video was how you said “purple thang!”
Thanks, Fallon! That purple thang is fun to say! LOL!
It was so dang cute and made me smile!
I like to pre-crease my stitching lines. Thanks for all your great tips.
Great tip! Thanks!
Such a pretty table runner. ❤
Thank you! 🥰

That's gorgeous! I appreciate all the tips too
Thanks so much! 🥰
My pleasure! I am happy it is helpful!
Nice. Great tips. I like the way you quilted it with the straight then serpentine. Gave me a new idea for a quilt I'm working on
Yay! So happy it is helpful! This is one of my favorite ways to quilt a quilt. It really have a nice overall look.
FPP is on my to do list, but haven't tried it yet. Thanks for all the tips.
My pleasure! Thank you so much for watching!

Very pretty! Have still not attempted FPP😊
Thank you! It is a different type of process. I do love the results!
Love this pattern
Isn't it great? I love it, too!

You are so welcome! 🥰
Kris, Have you made a foundation paper piecing for dummies tutorial yet?
😆 I love the idea! I haven't. I am pretty sure this is a one-and-done video genre for me. Thanks so much for the giggle!
Much to difficult for me a beginner! But very beautiful!
Thank you! 😊 So happy you like it.

What was the fabric name?
It's called Misty Garden by Lara Skinner for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.
I can give you tip number 23....just don't do Paper Piecing yuk!
I understand that. It isn't for everyone. 😎
