- Is it futile to resist China’s superpower status? Is it time for the United States to live with it?
Depending on the answer, the world could be heading towards more stability - or chaos.
Kishore Mahbubani was a Singaporean diplomat for more than 30 years and served as president of the United Nations Security Council. He tells host Steve Clemons that the US should get accustomed to a multipolar world it can no longer dominate.
Mahbubani argues that the "Asian century" has already begun and that Washington should not allow issues such as Taiwan to ruin their relations.

Question is, can US contain and control itself, insted of making trouble everywhere?
ABB =America Bombs Bitter (mistaken as America Built Better)
The USA is being forced to control itself because China is selling off its treasury holdings in US dollars and not buying any more. Other countries are now also doing the same after the US weaponised the Trading Dollar and the Swift system.
Now the US is buying its own debt which it cannot sustain without global impact.

Same for all.
The world is not for any one country to contain another country. It’s an absurd and utterly selfish concept of winner wins all. Losers plan containment but true winners talk about competition and cooperation.
Multipolar world is here and will stay. Common prosperity is the way to go.
@Peter. You are absolutely right, not just morally, but also in economic and every other terms. The US attempt to contain China is a fool's errand. The problem is that the US is led by second rate people, who are ignorant, stupid, reckless and evil.

It looks like a lot of people agree with you. Common sense.
Contain means keep the poor countries poor. That’s what the United States want, to stay number one ☝🏻.
China is playing civilization while the U.S. is playing call of duty.😐

Chinese always have a saying “harmony bring wealth”, compare to USA “my way or the high way”. This is a fundamental different between these 2 countries, and it leads to a very different foreign policy for these 2 countries.
Americans listened to much to Limp Bizkit (although the phrase was with them since they started wiping out the original inhabitants to the land they claim now)
It is interesting why American's media talk like a judge of other countries. No other countries talk about how US should behave.
The media in the USA and much of the West is all consumed by itself and by self interest. The advent of FAKE NEWS results in CONTROL where there should be honest criticism and FREE SPEECH - there's CONTROL through opening the flood gates for LIES that match the dominant narrative.
You're absolutely right, even though the US is the world's most badly behaved "WORLD DICTATOR", the US Media do frequently sound like a judge for other nations. I've always maintained that the US Media are nothing but a bunch of US Government agencies for the spread of US government propaganda against China, Russia, as well as any nation that the US is either hoping to destabilise for Imperialist Interest, or a nation which the US is hoping to bring under its WORLD DICTATORSHIP REGIME. Hence, the mainstream media should neither be taken seriously nor respected, because they lack credibility
@Benjamin G. Lee The Chinese abhors their fake regime? Where do you get this idea that the Chinese people don't like thier government? FYO, the Chinese love their government and are more patriotic than the average American is to the US government. Do you really believe that the Chinese government is more evil than the US government? Consider this, everywhere the US government goes with its terrorist military, death, assassination of leaders, hunger, war, destabilization, mayhem, murder and sanctions follow in the name of US Imperialist Ideology.
You sound like a victim of US Government/US midea propaganda against China. It's not too late to start doing your own independent research, including talking with international students from China, or travel to China in person and see how the majority of its citizens are so happy with their government. Why? Because the Chinese government has done more for its citizens in a single generation, than the US government has done for American citizens since the inception of the United States of America
There are now 2 parties in the US. One is patriotic and the other is taking advantage of the country's talent and resources and using China(bribery) to destroy the US. China should wake up to some of the evil US elite.
@@Justsaying-cg2nz China is already aware of the US's evil. It's just that what we have going on in comparison to the US and China can be summed up in these few words, "EMPTY VESSELS MAKES THE MOST NOISE"

BRICS wants to build a new currency. It is also worth noting that gold has historically been used as a store of value and a means of exchange, and some countries still hold significant amounts of gold in their reserves. However, it is unclear how a new currency backed by gold would function in the current global financial system and whether it would gain widespread acceptance. Ultimately, any decision to create a new currency would be subiect to numerous economic, political, and logistical considerations.
It's interesting to learn more about the discussions and proposals around BRICS nations and their potential use of gold. There are several reasons why people may choose to buy gold, including its historical use as a store of value and means of exchange, its potential as a hedge against inflation or currency devaluation, and its relative scarcity compared to other commodities. Additionally, gold can offer diversification benefits to investment portfolios, as it tends to have a low correlation with other asset classes like stocks and bonds. In all honesty, although the U.S. government is concerned about China, the people of the US aren't concerned about China at all.
Every time the US government says that it is concerned about a country, that country would turn into the stone age and millions displaced or killed, by you-know-who.
True. Except some people who blindly believe the government but the average educated American isn’t. China is a nice holiday destination. The trade wars don’t help the rest of the world.

South China sea. What's China doing there. Is that in the interest of the rest of ASEA? Expanding past exclusive economic zones into other sovereign exclusive economic zones should be condoned? That's a huge oversight missed here, and a major catalyst in relations between the Western values and Autocracies
It’s called the South China Sea, not the South America Sea. What is the US doing there? Is their presence in the interest of ASEAN?

Contain? What an evil thought of containing others. Jealousy is poisonous.
Where my continent Africa is concerned, you'll hear a lot of negative comments concerning the Afro-Chinese partnership, but the reality is that this partnership has brought about more benefits in a few decades than over a century with the West for instance. People will cite the narrative of Chinese exploitation of Africa but the West aren't doing better either, plus, any dealings by Africa with any one who's not the West is always termed as exploitation. This I guess because the West doesn't know any other way to deal with Africa.

US needs to engage with the BRICS and others and if it fails to continue
it's drive for global hegemony it will fail economically and in every other way.
Sadly, neither US political party is willing to depart from the current path
so I predict that there will be rough sailing in years ahead for those of
us in the USA.
What gives the US or any other nation the right to stop any other other country from forging its own future?
It's utterly immoral to wish ill upon someone who didn't wrong you. What I'm hearing is voices of those with evil in their heart and soul to wishing China would collapse some day. It's like wishing a player drop dead in the middle of a poker game because he beats you one hand after another even the deck is rigged against him.
The U.S. does not have a serious problem with autocracy. But China is of the wrong size. Because of its economic and political size, China will be targeted as a strategic rival even if it were a democracy like India.
Being a democracy is to be a puppet under US funding government and US value, and being a democracy controlled by US you never have a chance to grow to a wrong size
Yes, but because of its size and potential, it is even more dangerous as an autocracy. 2 countries of same size economy and military, autocracy has an advantage over democracy.
It's always a pleasure to listen to Kishore.
The US has very little to offer countries in the emerging markets. The US
economy is all about money laundering and has little to offer them in the
way of goods and services that they need.
The US devotes a huge amount of its GDP to making and selling arms
to other countries while taking on under armed countries like Afganistan
that can't fight back. US tax dollars go to maintaining the US hegemony
while the rest of the world moves.
It's very sad but it is what it is and the rest of the world is waking up
to the fact that the US isn't a true friend to anyone.

Because the white have proven time and time again that they cannot work with others, only dictate to others. That’s why white Europe is happy to be dogs to USA as long as US is white, same with Australia, Canada, Sweden etc. the Japs already beat the whites in the 80s and were immediately targeted by the whites who cannot accept any non-white country leading.
