    ⚡QOTD: What Canon DSLR do you think is best for video? LMK! 👇👇👇

      Think Media I think it's the Canon T5i. However, I may be biased because that's what I use.

      @CarterInosencio 6 лет назад +2

      Also, question. Could you make a video about tripods? I have a tripod, but it isn't very compact, and when it's strapped to my camera bag, it runs into walls because it sticks out on the sides. I'm looking into buying a compunction tripod, but don't know what to buy. If you would make a video, that would be AWESOME! Thanks, Carter Inosencio.

      Think Media I think video quality you should go for the SL2 because they both have the same sensors and nearly everything. So basically your getting a camper $400 cheaper and does pretty much the same video quality.

    Im a pro - I own all three and 3 ff canons as well - The SL2 is my go to for travel - but it really depends on what you are shooting - if you are shooting sports photos - get the better cameras with more focus points, but if you are shooting portraits, the SL2 with the 50mm f/1.8 is tough to beat - it also has the newer sensor - I find the color to be a tad better actually on the SL2 than the 80D - but nothing compared to my 5D or 6D, as expected since they are FF cameras - bottom line - size matters when you travel... the SL2 is a home run in most respects for this. - great Low Light performance as well - even at high ISO's the camera doesn't show grain as much as the 80D - not horrible but you can see it - just my 2 cents :-)

    T7i has the Digic 7 which offers better image quality, 5-Axis Image Stabilization, improved low-light performance and subject tracking. 80D is void of those features and is heavier with a gimmicky screen and weather proofing that I don't need. T7i for me, thanks!

    I got the 80D when it came out, it's my first camera ever and it's fantastic! I know it's overkill for a first camera, but I wanted something that would age well and it was definitely the rigth choice. I shoot video alone so the amazing autofocus feature saves me a lot of pain, battery life is also great and it's holding up nicely after two years. Now I'm saving for a second camera (I do drumming videos so I need a second POV) and it's definitely going to be the 200D. Once I save up some more money I'm getting the 50mm and the 10-18mm. Thanks for the great review!

      What do the change in lens mm do? I'm new to cameras and don't know shit. I'm looking at the 80D just because all video footage I've seen of it looks sexy. What else do I need other than the camera body itself? What are the different lenses for? I've seen many professional video makers have lenses with hill-shaped figures round the sides of the lense, is that to block out light?
      Would be much appreciated if you could answer these. Thanks.

    • @jayb9637
      @jayb9637 4 года назад

      @@RealityClubX Just search videos on youtube. I am new as well but these answers can be found easily within youtube itself. I have the 80D with the kit lens (18-135 mm) and I just got the 24 mm f/2.8 The difference is the kit lens has a FOCAL LENGTH that ranges between 18mm to 135mm whereas the 24mm is set and cannot change, its set at 24. However the "f/2.8" is your aperture which is the amount of "bokeh" or blurry background you can get in your photos/videos. the 18-135 has a f/3.5-5.6 which is TERRIBLE. Therefore, I am extremely happy to have a 24mm that cannot change but has a f/2.8 rather than a kit lens like a 18-55mm or 18-3.5 which has a low f stop or "f/3.5-5.6". You'll pick up on these things very quickly when you watch videos on youtube. This guy has some decent videos, for example: ruclips.net/video/Jd2T-gJJiKc/видео.html
      Hope this helps. God Bless

      @@RealityClubX - To answer your question, the higher the mm for a lense, the closer the object will appear in your viewscreen. The 18-135mm is vey nice, but when you really want to step it up, then give Rokinon lenses a try. The quality of those lenses are something special! They are fully manual and are at a fixed length, but if you are looking to make your videos look next level, then Rokinon is the best choice without taking your wallet completely away. Because Sean is mostly viewed by creators that are just starting up their channels/social media. I think it would be fair to say that the SL2 is exactly what we're looking for. Most affordable of the three and still has many of the same features as the other two. I've been trying to save up for an SL2 since October (when I started my channel). • @kevindiaz3459
      @kevindiaz3459 6 лет назад +2

      I don't know all the specifics here, but I think the only noticeable difference is that the digic 7 has higher ISO performance. In all seriousness, you will never use the highest ISO on the 80D (26500), as your images would be garbage, so it's not a big deal. I think otherwise its has the typical tweeks, like slightly better noise performance and slightly better color processing, things you wouldn't really notice in a single generation jump. Hell, you likely wouldn't notice if you came up from a couple generations, not unless you are making large prints.

For those who are just getting their first digital camera like I am need to consider not only the price of the kit camera but a 50mm prime Lens (1.8 f stop), SD cards, extra batteries, bag, tripod, lens covers, etc. My start up cost is $1000. Also, I would recommend joining a local photography club. As far as the SL2, it takes wonderful pictures and video. I know I will get years of great service out of this camera and possibly someday move up to a more professional camera down the road. All the best. Jim from Milton, GA

    I own both the SL1 and 80D camera. I started with the SL1 and was really happy with it, but then as my lens collection grew the heavier lenses were making the SL1 harder to hold with its light weight and small grip which the 80D handles much better. So for me I use the SL1 as my casual walk around camera. And then I break out my 80D for the more of the heavy duty photo sessions.

    This is why Cannon is failing behind the competition. They have 3 entry level cameras that are so close to one another and try to hook new people that don't know anything into buying them.
    Now, I want to say I bought a T5i last year, and given what I thought I wanted at the time, I love that camera. I can still learn a ton of stuff on that thing so its a great training camera. But knowing what I know now for anyone that wants to get into video, these cameras are still a few years behind what Panasonic is doing.
    The 3 advantages you get with Cannon:
    1) Best Auto Focus. Even then, you will learn manual focus is best for video so this is not that big of an advantage, unless your just doing VLog'n.
    2) Good Color Science. You wont really have to worry about color correcting. And if you want to get into Color Correcting, your going to find out that the 4:2:0 8 bit is not enough.
    3) Cheap Lens. Got to admit, if you new, the idea of spending a ton on lens is daunting. You can get some usable lens to learn with on a Cannon system. Don't be afraid to buy used!
    If video is your goal, invest in Panasonic. Might cost a wee bit more for lens, but once your ready to upgrade into a beefier camera, the GH5 and G9, are class leading cameras. Panasonic, is pushing camera tech for consumers and professionals alike. Cannon is relying on its heritage to stay a float, but soon it too might disappear with Kodak if they don't innovate soon!
    My recommendations:
    G9 for aprox $500 gets you 4k and into the brand and holds a ton of value. Better then the SL2 and T7i
    G85 for aprox $1000 gets you 4k, weather sealed, and image stabilization. Better then the 80D

For me, that's a killer, as I need to make sure the audio isn't too low or too high and clipping. I have a 70d, and use this every time I record to verify my levels. I seem to recall that you capture your audio using an external device, and thus don't use the camera-recorded audio, so perhaps that's why you didn't mention it in your comparison.

    Wouldn't say the 200D and 800D are prosumer, more hobby/beginner. 80D is THE prosumer camera of Canon. For pro you need to start looking at the 5D or 1D (if you have the budget...). If you decide to make the investment of a 80D also definitely save up for some good glass. I can recommend the 10-18mm, 24mm 2.8, but also the 18-135 nano USM kitlens are great options to take it to the next level! For beginner photographers the 800D/T7i is a great starter camera with those autofocus points. really recommend a 50mm 1.8 for all these cameras, super cheap, yet sharp and great depth of field.

    This video is exactly the first one I watched when trying I started researching 3 weeks ago to choose cameras for a new RUclips channel for an environmental non-profit that supports businesses.
    We will be doing interviews and for the set we built, want a 2 camera shoot. I've learned that two SL2s would have gotten the job done but In the end, purchased a Canon SL2 and a Canon T7i (in case we want to take photos). So far, our tests are going well and will be posting our first videos by the end of the month.
    It's amazing how many of my questions, you answered here on Think Media and on Video Influencers. I've already recommended you to 5 people who ask me about what we're doing.
    I still need to figure out what to do with this channel (Green Certified Web), it's being replaced and we incorporated the organization that replaced it but if that's my biggest problem, I'm in pretty good shape!
    Keep up the great work! I'm sure you're helping a lot of people, thanks Sean :)

  • @sdeutscher
    @sdeutscher 6 лет назад +5

    Hi! I will start with the main aspect. There are some flaws in your review. The reason for writing you is that during the video you are inviting for comments and feedback(many times) and I think that's a great idea and a good way to build interaction with your subscribers. You have more invitations than most of the youtubers that I know. Now, the flaws...... The most important one is 5-AXIS IN BODY STABILIZATION for video on the 7Ti. 80D doesn't have that, SL2 doesn't have that. Before I go on I should say that I used the cameras and still own one of them and I'm not a beginner...meaning I know all these things very well and I do photography and video for a living. I think this option alone would change the output of your review and recommendations for video. There are few other things and I could go into details if you are interested. For example 80D doesn't have bluetooth, SL2 and 7Ti have higher ISO(there is a limit for SL2 in video mode), Digic 7 brings many new things and improvements, the 9 point AF in the SL2 it's also a disadvantage in video, especially with tracking the subject and you can see in your video that it's losing the tracking on your wife when she gets closer while the other 2 cameras are better. Anyway, let me know if you want me to go into details. Also check other differences you didn't mention(max shutter speed, X-sync, viewfinder coverage, ISO range, HDR video, lens calibration)

    • @ThinkMediaTV
      @ThinkMediaTV  6 лет назад +4

      Thanks for the post Stefan!
      1. Good point about the 5-axis. I'm not that pumped about it because it's electronic/digital - but you are right that is a T7i advantage.
      2. Good point about Bluetooth ... but that also wouldn't change the review much. What 'use case' would most daily users get from the bluetooth? (The wifi and canon app are what I think most people use?)
      3. The higher ISO doesn't change my review either because I recommend people avoid higher ISO because photos and videos turn to crap. For video we try and stay under 400 or 800 at the most by using fast lenses and lighting. For video I consider super high ISO unusable.
      4. I covered the AF points in the video.
      5. I titled the video ... best dslr for video... because the primary focus of the video was video shooting with these cameras. So that why I didn't touch on viewfinder coverage, X-sync, etc.
      But saying all that... great comment and great points.
      And YES ... please go into more detail. I think people will get value out of knowing all of the differences and that it could help them pick the best camera for their goals and budget.
      Thanks again Stefan - keep crushing it!

      Such a nitpicky comment. The average person really wouldn't see the differences when it comes to those features. Who cares about grainy ISO and bluetooth? The video would've been 45 minutes long if he covered all of that. To say there was flaws with his review is unfair.

    • @sdeutscher
      @sdeutscher 6 лет назад +3

      Well, my opinion is different. I don't know who is your average person. My average person maybe doesn't see the difference between a phone and a dslr(besides the size). Some features are not that important and you are right. I was planning to come back with more explanations but I was extremely busy. My bad. The flaw in my opinion is the fact because of the features that I mention the ranking of the cameras would be different. The SL2 is not on the same level with 7Ti and 80D when it comes to autofocus. Photo or video. That's mainly because of the difference in autofocus points. Those 45 points helps a lot in video with autofocus. Also, only the 7Ti has in body stabilization. That is a major feature in video. Of course it doesn't matter if you shoot on a tripod. Or if you don't see the difference between a phone and a dslr. Of course it doesn't matter for some people. But we are talking in general. If a person doesn't see these differences then mind as well buy a SL1 or older. Another thing is that Digic 7 brings a lot of improvements. That's my main tipping point with 80D. Besides the in-body-stabilization. My opinion? It's a very good review. Only that omitting these aspects changes the conclusion a bit.

    • @kevindiaz3459
      @kevindiaz3459 6 лет назад

      Likely becasue there is no bundle that includes the 18-135mm lens, which is needed for the power zoom accessory. You would be better off jsut getting a Rode mic on it's own, unless you wanted that power zoom, in which case you would probably be better off with the 80D. (this assumes that people that would be using it are making higher level content, and can justify the added cost).

    • @SeanOzz
      @SeanOzz 6 лет назад

      Kevin Diaz I’m leaning toward the t7i

    • @kevindiaz3459
      @kevindiaz3459 6 лет назад +1

      Also a good choice, though the SL2 and T7i are jsut about the same for video. The T7i is a better camera for shooting action, as it has the 45 pt AF system as well as a surprising 6FPS burst, jsut 1 frame less than the 80D, or the 5D for that matter! It also features built in stabilization for video (not for stills), though it is not as ideal as using IS lenses. I think you would be happy with either, where the T7i gains the edge if you want to shoot more action shots (for basic portraits and other types of shooting the SL2 works as well as any other 9pt AF Rebel). It is worth pointing out that the 80D has a headphone port that neither the T7i or SL2 have, so if you need to monitor audio while filming then that is the only one of these three that have that.

  • @mychalsimmons4177
    @mychalsimmons4177 6 лет назад

    Because of the RUclips compression, it’s a little difficult to see how crisp the video picture is but from what I saw I like the SL2 there’s more bang for the buck. In most settings I don’t think my audience could tell the difference between the SL2 and the 80D. As a filmmaker I think I’d choose the SL2 and invest in quality glass. Just my opinion thanks... great video and I love your channel. ...you have a beautiful queen.

Some cameras only have AGC and you cant control the audio your self. In the last case, in AGC only, when you speak, audio is OK but on the talk pauses, the gain goes hi and brings a lot of background noise.
