I miss the 80's and early 90's when wearing knee and elbow pads were a part of skateboarding and made you look cool, rather than uncool. Attempting big tricks and landing on hard concrete is a recipe for disaster. I'm not a fan of machoism. It's uncomfortable viewing.

Once the sponsors dry up, all they are left with is injuries and soul crushing poverty. Working in a minimum wage job packing groceries etc and struggling because the store manager is on their back and doesn't give a fuck about the former glory days or your injuries. I know from experience the risk to reward ratio is too damn high and its not worth the risk for 2 mins of fleeting fame. 🤷🏽♂️

I remember being in, I think, 10th grade when this came out and it hyped me up to ollie a big loading dock at my local shut down glass factory. 13 years later it all was turned into a grocery store and a legendary skate spot was gone forever.
Bro we had a similar spot in my town, it was an old cotton gin shop with a similar loading dock that all of us skaters used to hit up after school and just fuck around and skate all day. Now it's owned by our local power company and fenced in and all that. I always look at it while driving and think back to some very good times

Skating was born out of rebellion. Everything about it. The invention itself is like someone said "fuck steering" and ripped the handlebar off of a scooter. Then the culture of street skating came about because there was no designated place to skate; no skate parks. It was just kids looking around town for shit to grind and do tricks off of. Kids with a lack of consideration for authority and constantly getting kicked out of places. Pushing the limits of skill and safety. And making it cool to disobey the adults that say life is supposed to be lived a certain way, hence, no helmet or pads.

Skating was born out of rebellion. Everything about it. The invention itself is like someone said "fuck steering" and ripped the handlebar off of a scooter. Then the culture of street skating came about because there was no designated place to skate; no skate parks. It was just kids looking around town for shit to grind and do tricks off of. Kids with a lack of consideration for authority and constantly getting kicked out of places. Pushing the limits of skill and safety. And making it cool to disobey the adults that say life is supposed to be lived a certain way, hence, no helmet or pads.
It doesn't look good. And it's extra mass.

I used to watch Sorry everyday before we’d go skate so I know his part really well. He had a few decent switch tricks but nothing mindblowing that’s for damn sure. The switch heel over the barrier then switch hardflip over the stairs in Paris was decent. Same for the opening line w the regular frontside flip then switch frontside flip. The switch smith was also decent. Those were ok but certainly not pushing any boundaries. I don’t even think Appleyard was pro when Sorry came out & his part destroyed Ali’s. Everyone’s part in that video was leaps & bounds past Ali’s part. Ali had potential, his early footage before he started dressing like the Sex Pistols was dope but from Sorry forward he wasn’t putting out anything crazy
