The other standard method is 'nasopharyngeal method' where the swab is inserted into the nose almost horizontally to take a sample from the place where nasal cavity and pharynx meet. The same swab is used again to take a sample from the other nostril. So it is not necessary to take samples from both nose and throat, IF the samples are taken using the nasopharyngeal method.

@@themedicos2116 the viral load seems to be the indicator of whether you are sick or are able to infect other people. unfortunately after researching this it doesn't seem that the viral load is taken in consideration when a positive test is given versus a negative test. I just tested positive for the PCR test and my surgery was canceled and I don't have symptoms of the disease that I believe I've already had it so unfortunately the hospitals have protocols where they will not even consider surgery for three more weeks. I would think they do a blood test which would be much more accurate.
