Researchers working on Covid-19 vaccines have smashed speed records, bringing new vaccines from development to distribution in less than a year. They did this with the help of billions of dollars of unprecedented global investment -- but also, in some cases, with a new type of vaccine technology.
There are four traditional types of vaccines, and they all require the growing and handling of live pathogens in a lab, a time-consuming process than can add months or years to development. But two new types of vaccines skip that step altogether by moving that work from the lab to our bodies. mRNA vaccines, like the ones from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna; and Adenovirus vaccines, like those from Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca; do this by sending genetic instructions directly into our cells, which then produce the harmless protein the body needs to learn to fight Covid-19. Because these proteins are produced from within cells rather than injected from the outside, they may be less likely to provoke adverse reactions in the recipient.
The result has been a host of vaccines developed faster than ever. But it's also ushered us into a new age of vaccine technology, one in which we can send our own bodies the instructions on how to protect themselves. That technology is already being used to drive research on vaccines for HIV and cancer. These new types of vaccines are weapons we developed to fight the coronavirus - but their real impact is just beginning.

This video focuses on the two new types of vaccines, but as we say at 2:00, not all Covid-19 vaccines fall into those categories. Here’s a list of some of the leading vaccines, and which types they are:
    mRNA vaccines:
    - Moderna
    - Pfizer-BioNTech
    Adenovirus vaccines:
    - AstraZeneca
    - Johnson & Johnson
    - Sputnik V
    - CanSino
    Recombinant protein vaccines:
    - Novavax
    Inactivated virus vaccines:
    - Bharat/Covaxin
    - Sinovac
    - Sinopharm

@@swampfoxtaylor5728 america was losing more than 4000 people a day from covid-19 in january. Making an analogy, the number of people dying in the USA from covid-19 is the equivalent of having a September 11 terrorist attack everyday for a whole month.
Now imagine having a 911 attack daily, killing more than 4k people daily and having the president(Trump) and his people say that there is no reason to fight terrorism or taking any precautions. having people continuing to live their normal lives even though buildings are being hit by airplanes everyday.(its all an analogy.)
You speak about 99.7% survival rate. I don't know where you got those numbers
The survival rate of the virus changes daily based on the number of detected infections. and the number of people who died from covid. The US had around 89k cases daily on the past days and close to 1500 deaths daily. Rounding things up that's 1.7% death rate or 98.3 survival rate. Although it seems like a good number, thousands of people are still dying daily. Thousands of americans are losing their family everyday. If you think its ok that thousands are dying everyday and that nothing has to be done and that we should just go one with our lives carelessly and risking our own lives and the lives of those around us, you lack empathy. America has become a joke in the world scene as well as most of the western world for it's incapacity to control the pandemic. we cannot stop this making zero efforts or no sacrifices. We cannot live the lives we had before covid. Percentages are nothing. It's people we are talking about. In less than a year the US lost 476k people. We are nearing half a million in less than a year. Soo you can actually have smaller numbers by staying at home, wearing a mask or getting vaccinated. Ignorance will be the doom of humanity.

The vaccine will not protect you from any virus in any way. Even the flu vaccine doesn't protect people from becoming infected with influenza, actually the people who are getting the flu shot very often have worse symptoms when subsequently infected by the virus than the unvaccinated people.
And the way the mRNA Covid-19 vaccine works, I don't think it is meant to protect you against viruses, it has other purposes, not to protect you...The Pfizer vaccine needs to be stored at minus 70 degrees Celsius, while all vaccines in the past were stored between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, and freezing them or exposing them to freezing temperatures was forbidden, as it was damaging the vaccine... Why the covid-19 vaccine needs to be stored in an ultra-low temperature? Simply because this is not a vaccine, this is genetic material. This is how genetic material or DNA is being stored.
Electroporation of mRNA into our cells is the method they will be using, which is supposed to make foreign proteins, that supposedly generates immunity. But the problem is, electroporation is literally a method for genetic modification, this is the exact same procedure they are using to transfer foreign DNA into the cells. No one knows what will happen when one gets injected with this vaccine, but my suspicion is that infertility will be the most common 'side effect'. Another very possible side effect is prion disease, as the mRNA vaccine instructs your cells to make protein it doesn’t normally make. It could be malformed. And malformed proteins lead to prion disease. This is incurable and fatal neurodegenerative disorder that has very long incubation period (several years) during which the disease may not reveal any signs.

@@theyknow9234 No, you would not get a prison disease. Your cells are able to make all sorts of proteins, and you body is able to make spike proteins regardless of vaccination. When you get infected with a virus your cells become reproduction sites for the viruses. This this where the illness comes into play. The vaccine would not cause illness because all your body would do is affected cells would make spike proteins. The mRNA would be unable to mass produce itself and take over the body, like a virus would.

My questions how China could do it in a year as well? Also you said that because of corona in future companies will use m RNA technology for developing other vaccines. Why that did use it earlier for that?

  • @bingobangoist
    @bingobangoist 3 года назад +7

Very nice explainer, just a couple of points of information, 1st) the body can also build up an immune response to the lipposome carrier for the mRNA vaccines so the drawback mentioned for the inactivated viral carrier is actually relevant for both groups of vaccines. 2nd) mRNA is more susceptible to other environmental conditions beyond just temperature, this includes UV and other kinds of natural radiation, which could cause a unwanted base change, which could in the worst scenario lead to a truncated peptide no longer leading to the intended immune response. DNA is less susceptible to these kind of mutations due to its higher stability, thus enabling researchers to extract DNA from well preserved, millennia old, remains.
