Great vid Minty! Deep Blue Sea is one of my favorite flicks. Definitely a "check your brain at the door" type of movie, lol. The special effects I thought were great and I didn't know about the license plate. I figured it some kind of Easter egg. I feel the same way you do about the sequel. Plus LL Cool J's "Deepest Bluest" is a dope song!
Stellan Skarsgård was already a fairly well known actor at the time. In Sweden especially. Here in the US he had already been in a few films with A list actors.
I find it strange that people don't point out more often how the 3 sharks die in nearly the same way and in the same order as the sharks from each of the first 3 Jaws movies; gas explosion, electrocution, and then bomb.
Remember watching it in the cinema. My friend and I jumped at the famous death scene. Then when I had it on DVD and my mother was curious about it, we watched it together. I never saw anyone getting up so quickly from a couch when she saw Sam's death. Hilarious. I also didn't know there was a sequel. I just saw the bluray at JB and was curious that I did a little research as well. Yeah, I think I stick with the original as well.
Its quite a fun movie this is, the ending did subvert my expectations quite nicely as i expected it to end with that woman and the guy surviving and the black guy typically dying. Never expected that she would die herself.
Absolutely agree with you on The Long Kiss Goodnight. I tend to believe that it suffered from its title. Certainly didn't sound like a kickass action flick.
I oddly loved this movie after it came out! The quality and cgi was great for the time. And im glad you mentioned about SLJ's hilarious death. Especially after i saw your thumbnail and im like, why did he put him on there when he dies in like 10 mins?! Lol
Minty here on a Friday night to freshen up the bad breath that is my life with some garbage movie that I didn't like when it came out but am thoroughly enjoying your review of.
The Long Kiss Goodnight, one of the best Action Comedy films ever made, the best thing about it is that it has no SJW agenda even though the lead character/hero is a WOMAN. You have to cover this movie
@@homelesshannah50 Well I hope that some things in life make you happy, like being rude to people that you haven't met in the real world, you go have a good one bro😝
Always liked this movie, been obsessed with sharks since I was a kid! Also the other movies the director did were great to me, I enjoyed long kiss goodnight and cut throat island love Gina Davis! Great video minty!
This to me is my favourite Shark movie along with Jaws and Jaws 2. I love Elm Street 4 l, Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Mindhunters, Renny Harlin is a criminally underrated director.
Same here, like the shark somehow knew the laws of physics, even though the water resistance would have slowed the doctor down enough to not do anything to the glass, that and hitting it broadside like that wouldn't have done much at that speed since it spreads the force of the impact out across to broad of an area to do anything. This movie brings out one of my big pet peeves in animal monster movies and that's that they make the animals way too smart. I don't care how smart an animal is, it's still not going to automatically know things it has no experience with, intelligence does not equal knowledge.
Deep Blue Sea was a great movie imo. It deserved more praise than it got. Btw, would you consider doing a "Top 10 Things" video on Alligator, Alligator 2: The Mutation, Komodo, or Prophecy(1979)?
This movie is one of my guilty pleasures, I love it and I love Jaws, I don't think there's much of a comparison to made really though between the two movies though. Oh and yeah, Deep Blue Sea 2 is awful, just horrible, but it's kind of funny even though it's not meant to be.
Yepp. Harlin is quite capable director, although most of the stuff he made starting with Cutthroat Island was really good, the Long Kiss Goodnight being an exception. Unrightfully forgotten flick.
I remember having bought my friend a DVD copy of Dark City.... he went to best buy and returned it to get Deep Blue Sea. After having seen both he still says Dark City was so much better lol
Can't believe you haven't done 10 amazing facts about the movie "Razorback" yet. Maybe it had a different title in Australia. It's a forgotten Australian classic in my book. Love your channel btw
Mid 2000 to early 2001, I worked in a video shop. When Deep Blue Sea was released on video, we stacked the shelves and put out the promo posters as usual, and gave the tapes to.customers. One evening, a vague and unsure woman came into the shop wanting to hire a video. She mumbled something about "the one with the shark in it", so I grabbed a copy of Deep Blue Sea from behind the counter and scanned the barcode and membership card and all the usual stuff. She came back about an hour later, saying that wasn't the film she wanted, she wanted "the other shark one". It turns out she was talking about Jaws - of which, we had one rather well-used copy in the discount rentals section. I suppose the customer is always right.

Great Video, as usual, Minty. I had an idea that The Samuel L. Jackson character, A Spoiler Alert, was going to get killed early. It's right up there with Janet Leigh/Psycho & Steven Segal/Executive Decision, in A Main Character Getting Killed Very Early.
I'm still in awe with the animatronics... incredible builds.
"Take me back to the ghetto". "I appreciate the irony Lord. Being cooked in my own oven". LL Cool J has the best lines.
