@@natebaxter9551 The problem was that the plot, along with the stakes, completely diminished the movie. They poked fun of it in Cobra Kai about silver being wealthy, and using his resources to terrorize a teenager for a high school tournament. Second, the stakes in this one paled in comparison to the second film. It's hard for people to be invested when you go from fighting for pride/tournament, to fighting to the death, and then back to fighting for a tournament.

Apparently a psychopath is "born" one, whereas a sociopath is "made" such through bad life experiences. From what we've seen of Young Terry in Cobra Kai, he displayed very few, if any, of these negative characteristics early on; he seemed like a naive, sweet kid, albeit one who suffered from fear and anxiety. He seemed genuinely terrified when Ponytail was about to be murdered, whereas psychopaths tend to stay cool in threatening situations; one of a psychopath's most unusual characteristics, in fact, is that they _don't_ fear death. Moreover, Silver pledged life-long loyalty to Kreese after Kreese saved him from death, and repeatedly proved that loyalty to Kreese. Why would a psychopath repeatedly show real loyalty to anyone but themself, especially if the returns on that loyalty are so low? So while I do not suspect Terry is a psychopath, I would agree that Terry is definitely a sociopath. Dutch, on the other hand...

Thank you for this great comment! I might need to do a follow-up video sometime, including more on psychopath v. sociopath. You bring up an interesting question about loyalty, though my question would be whether Terry ever showed deep loyalty to Kreese or whether he was always more concerned about himself. I touch on it on this video here: ruclips.net/video/4yMNROVFMtM/видео.html

@@sergeant_ruh_rh8537 in Vietnam Terry Silver was more covert. He pretended to be weak and fearful in order to manipulate Kreese into taking his place in that fight against the captain. I suspect he pulled the same trick countless times, making Kreese believe that he was Terry´s strength, but in reality, Terry was the mastermind and Kreese the one who fought Silver's battles. I'm pretty convinced that Silver is not a psychopath. Because he seems to have quite serious ptsd problems if he were a psychobat, I do not think the war would have affected him in that way. We also see when he finally decides to support Kreese he thinks back to when they were young and they supported each other. And finally, he seemed to be downright disappointed when he tried to show his loyalty to Kreese by beating down Jonny but Kreese did not want it. I'm impressed by this analysis of Silver. It's no surprise Silver is able to hide his behavior given he puts up a "villain with good publicity".
If compared to Griffith from Berserk, he has all the qualities, if not, the same as Silver. Unlike Silver, Griffith has nerves of steel, projecting his charisma to his followers in the Band of the Hawk and rarely shows poor impulse control unless if his ego is bruised. And like most psychopaths, Griffith only sees his underlings as expendables for his ambition. He even gets worse after his reincarnation.

Terry is probably more likely a sociopath with PTSD. In the war flashbacks, he seems more cowardly and was severely traumatized after watching his friend get shot in the head. Even in the flashback of him and Kreese in the tattoo parlor, he seems very naive and loyal to Kreese. Hopefully we get a chance to see Terry's background and upbringing explored, but it seems like he was brought up in a civilized and rich household with a father who expected Terry to be like him.

I would say that Terry Silver is VERY intelligent, calculating, and manipulative but not a psychopath. Here's why:
    - Terry shows genuine remorse and reflection.
The writers confirmed that Terry was 100% sincere in his apology to Daniel. And Terry even says “I was so hopped up on cocaine and revenge that I spent months terrorizing a teenager over a high-school karate tournament. It sounds insane just talking about it". This shows remorse, self awareness, and reflection. Terry admits his actions were insane. This is something a psychopath would never do. And there's no evidence to show that he was 'faking it' since he was saying this to Kreese. What would a Psychopath gain from saying this to Kreese of all people?
    - Terry is a relapsed addict and suffers from mental illness.
KK3 Terry is a veteran that used illicit drugs to drown out his PTSD and cope with his mental illness. Drugs absolutely DO alter your perception and personality. Addiction warps who you are and finding yourself after getting clean can be VERY difficult without a good support system. Which Terry didn't have. And he stopped taking his meds (which I believe were for his mental illness) which always spells disaster.
    - Terry relapsed because of his loneliness.
Anyone that's gone to rehab will tell you that having a good support system is VERY important. Without it you'll relapse. Terry was able to get pulled in by Kreese because he didn't have a circle of people that genuinely cared for him. He clung to what was familiar and paid the price.
    - Tofu Terry was out of balance.
After rehab Terry was trying to find his identity again. Looks like he crafted a "good guy" checklist and molded himself into what he thought he needed to be. The 'Tofu Terry' persona led him to being repressed and unhappy. Which Kreese fully exploited. Terry needs to learn that there's a middle ground. He can be a good person while also being intense, calculating, and passionate without going insane and beating people up.
    - Terry struggles with passivity and tending to taking orders from others.
Terry admits this to Kenny and it's one of the reasons he takes the boy under his wing. He sees himself in Kenny. He hasn't learned how to be his own person. Psychopaths don't take orders from anyone. They're always looking out for themselves and will crush anyone that tries to make them submit in anyway (i.e. Kreese).
    - When Kreese tells Terry to fall back in line Terry genuinely has tears in his eyes when he says, "Yes, Captain".
And after this he's seen drinking and murmuring to himself about 'proving himself'.

A very good breakdown on the character.
Obviously Kreese coming back into his life has triggered that urge again. The violent urge to be powerful and glorious in his strengths.
To beat someone so violently, like he does to Stingray. Then to be able to manipulate him into making a false statement to the police that it was Kreese. He missed the ultimate power, from living along his shadow self. Terry was comfortable with Kreese out of his life but in his mind, he knew he had to defeat Kreese to escape him. That makes him a winner again.
I believe Stingray will withdraw his allegation about Kreese at some point.

When Terry Silver was younger he said he was high on drugs, and when you're high on drugs it's this addiction that you can't stop and it's really bad, and it affects your mind, like you are still aware of what's happening, but you won't be able to control some of your actions in the moment, and that's why people would get upset quickly. Cobra Kai Terry said that he went to go get help and all, and he seemed like much better than before, even telling John Kreese "You leaving was apparently the best thing that ever happened to me" when he returned he said "I thought we were gonna stop our old ways, and finally do what's right for this Karate place. If we keep going this way then it'll be the same thing as last time, where they would win and we would lose, we need to learn from our mistakes" Silver seeing his past of John Kreese, and Daniel LaRusso, and even the fact that John Kreese would bring up the Vietnam War was really starting to mess with Silver's head, and just slowly he started to change back to his old ways without the drugs, but still remains more civil. John Kreese would push Silver to the limit, and then would stop him and because Silver was getting confused, and frustrated by this and getting emotionally damaged by this, he knew he needed a way to get rid of John Kreese for good, so that he won't ever have to remember about his past. Once he got rid of his weakness he can now have full control

I think Terry at the start of cobra Kai was changed, but Kreese kinda brought him back. It was clear Terry was kinda rattled after taking to Kreese. Everything he did seemed “out of character” for how he was as Tofu Terry. I think as time went on, he only got worse.
I could see Terry apologizing to Daniel as sincere. But Daniel’s rejection could’ve triggered him to double down. I believe he even commented on Kreese’s teaching at some point almost protesting.
I think what we’ve seen is a relapse that just turned into a downward spiral.

I don’t think it is black and white. One can make a case either way. In his conversation with Kreese, he really was conflicted over his past behavior. Perfect analysis ! I've often asked myself what kind of psychopath Terry Silver is ... ever since back in the late 80's when I saw KK3. Wonderful guy at first glance , charming , self-confident, well-spoken and convincing , like a true King. But will stab you in the back when you're not looking. Also true that Most psychos are Not violent , and they are very common in our own society today. It's far more common than most people might think. I don't think he is, he was manipulated by his "Kreese" who would play with his loyalty and ptsd. @@KenCole at the time meeting with Daniel and Johnny I actually get the vibe he meant every word and saw it as a business opportunity and nothing more (he had the idea in his head for franchises etc), when Kreese triggered his PTSD all loyalty disappeared it became personal and unleashed the old Terry Silver.

    • @godfather4377
      @godfather4377 2 года назад +1

A lot of people think psychopaths don't have feelings, they do though. You can honestly debate, did Silver ever really value Kreese that much? I'm not even sure if it was 'personal' being the reason that he betrayed Kreese. Listen to his last speech, he said his weakness is Kreese. And he's shedding that skin, meaning, him. So what Silver was really saying is that, Kreese is holding him back on what he wants done with Cobra Kai and views him as collateral damage.
Kreese triggering his PTSD was messed up, but framing him to go to prison for it? Really? I think it was more complex than that. It was evident by that point Kreese and Silver WERE NOT on the same page. It was Kreese not going along with Silver's way that made him betray him.

    • @godfather4377
      @godfather4377 2 года назад +1

@@KenCole I don't think he was at all. In Karate Kid 3, Terry seemed to enjoy the idea of getting revenge on someone. And one can assume its because of his loyalty to Kreese. I never really saw it that. I think he enjoyed the Karate world. We get that indication in the flashbacks as a young Silver, he loves it. He's addicted to it and its what he wants to do. But can't at the time being, because he wants his fathers money.
Young Kreese is disappointed, says he needs Silver to help him with the dojos. Silver won't abandon his fathers money, to help the suppose friend he's in debt to, and to do something he obviously really wants to do. Silver, even then, going to look out for Silver first.
And back in Karate Kid 3, Kreese was on board with Silver's plans. Now, he wasn't.
We never get any indication, at all, that he's actually loyal to Kreese. At first, he wants nothing to do with Kreese (in Cobra Kai). So this 'I'll always be there when you need me' was BS.
But then Terry gets that old itch again. But this time, Kreese was not going along with Silver.
So Silver betrayed him, not because I think of the PTSD trigger. But to get Kreese out of the way so he can do to Cobra Kai exactly as he envisions. I think the PTSD manipulation attempt scene by Kreese, sealed the deal with Silver, Kreese will never let him run Cobra Kai the way HE wants to.
Kreese underestimated Silver and his loyalty to him. He thought he had it. He was wrong.

I do think that he’s a psychopath who I would also compare to a chameleon because of how well he’s able to hide his true colors from everyone even himself. I think that this truly his plan all along. If you recall back in karate kid 3 after he fought Miyagi he said I am going to open up cobra Kai dojos all over the valley, I’m going to teach for free, I I I and only adding kreese’s name until the end and very quickly too. A psychopath is something that he always was and all kreese had to do was just wind him up and let him loose, which is ironically what he told Daniel in the store when he said that he always had a little bit of cobra Kai inside of him

Okay, just my amateur analysis here. Terry definitely has PTSD. He also has multiple personalities, which is likely a byproduct of his PTSD. In episode one of season 4, he's very docile. Episodes 3 to 7, he's intently focused but still reasonable and logical. At the end of episode 7 after Kreese confronts him, he snaps and becomes an even more dangerous version of himself from Karate Kid III. He's a complicated cat for sure.

That’s a good question. Dr. Hare, the psychopath researcher, says sociopath is pretty much the same thing as psychopath, and that some psychologists use “sociopath” for cases where it’s more environmentally based than biologically based. But the end result is the same disorder. So I guess we’d need to see how Kreese matches those criteria 😄 maybe a future video?

I think with Season 5 it gets interesting since before he discovers that Chozen is a spy, he says to him how he believes that Cobra Kai can make a big difference and help kids. This would kind of reflect on him being weak till he turned people's fears against them. I think with Cobra Kai trying to steer away from 2-Dimensional characters.
There's also the finale where he basically just blurts out how "There are no good or bad" and how life is a competitive sport (Kreese also says how there are no good or bad which is why they use the authority not to their advantage). This is when Terry was not focusing and was off-balance, so I think he was telling the truth there.

Terry also shows a LOT of respect for Kreese and although you could say it’s fake I personally think it’s genuine.
Both Terry and John are most likely a product of trauma they got from war. We see in Cobra Kai how war affected Kreese and how it caused him to be less empathetic and I think the same happened with Silver but instead of becoming a brutal sensei alone, Terry became a brutal sensei and a con artist. Terry probably learned how to con people because he has a lot of corporate experience.

He’s possibly a sociopath or could become one, with severe mental illness PTSD and probably other things. He does show remorse but at the end of season 4 when he betrayed kreese he’s become vengeful again and bitter. He’s one a very treacherous path to losing his mind completely. Especially after season 5 and losing in the way he did in front of his students etc. I think this will make him worse than ever, he will escape being sent to prison, seek revenge on Daniel, Johnny and Chozen. Maybe he gets thugs to attack daniels dealership or something. Maybe he goes totally insane and has Sam kidnapped idk honestly how he could get more evil without getting arrested.
