Colonel Dugan is admittedly not, as interesting compared to John Kreese and Terry Silver, but he does have the contrast factor that does make things fascinating. Notice, how Terry's favorite way of pain and pleasure is psychological damage on his enemies. Terry doesn't have a problem hurting you, but he takes pleasure mainly from hurting you emotionally by turning Daniel aggressive, he breaks his relationship with Miyagi and turns Daniel into what Daniel hates. Colonel Dugan doesn't focus too much on hurting someone mentally with the exception of threats, like you said Dugan focuses on Brute force and Physical Harm. Kreese on the other hand is a mix of the two. He becomes more psychologically damaging around those close to him, like Johnny and doesn't take much of an issue with it, as long as it benefits him and his goals. Around those he views as enemies or outsiders, he enjoys the physical harm, like it's a war. Terry to me represents Psychological harm, Colonel Dugan represents the physical harm and pain, and Kreese is like a interesting hybrid.
Never thought of it that way but that's pretty insightful! Terry likes to psychologically toy with his opponents before moving in, where Dugan likes to skip the foreplay and go right for the jugular. Kreese has shown both sides.
@Mike H right but he has shown moments where he'll just go right for the kill, like Dugan. Like in the parking lot in the 2nd movie against Miyagi. He just went right after Miyagi. I like that theory. It's possible that after those events and under the guidance of Kreese, Dugan was set on the road to become an Alpha Elite. He may of modeled himself after him and when he rose in the ranks, branched off to start his own unit. He may been a career military man until settling as a security officer in the public schools. I think in the current timeline of Cobra Kai it's likely after the dissolution of Alpha Elite he may went into private military contract work echoing the "stories" Kreese was feeding Johnny in Season Two.
I so would love seeing Dugan again on Cobra Kai as well as Julie but I want to see Julie as Tory's anger management therapist plus it's well known and the writers have said Julie and Daniel met at Miyagi's funeral and it's likely Dugan knew Kreese and Silver
Would be cool to see her rehabilitate Tory In that way it's in her nature since she rehabilitated Angel the Hawk but now she's be healing people for a living.

I am assuming they will start introducing characters from TNKK in future seasons, because I believe Kreese, Silver and Dugan met sometime in Vietnam, whether he was a member of their unit or was a commanding officer. First! yesss i wanted a video like this ! the next karate kid doesnt get many atention, because it kinda doesnt deserve it as a movie, but the amount of interesting lore of karate kid that this movie brings up has always fascinated me,a lot of ideas with potential to do a great movie with a good screenwriter as rmk or a good director, even when the movie itslef its pretty mediocre. so im glad that you are talking about that element of the movie specially the character of coronel dugan.
Dugan has an impressive military career. He taught Maverick to fly and he killed bugs in the Battle of Klendathu. He could not survive Miagi’s bad breath. HONK!
Coming back to this I think you are correct They seem to be bringing in every old character from the karate kid show They even showed Johnny’s old biker gang /best friends After this it’s possible they do the final series during college and that’s where Dugan will be . Plus that’s a pretty good actor that I would love to see again on the screen
One thing I think it's good to notice is that Dugan's focus seems to be less on individual martial artist skill - and focus more upon societal control and applying brute strength to answer any dissent. The Alpha Elites wield an absolutely enormous and bizarre level of influence, control, and Dugan himself was able to weigh in on expulsion and multiple school functions. Whereas Kreese and Silver focus on martial arts themselves, Dugan is more of a controller of social circumstances and power in structures. I think it might be realistic to expect the Alphas to be akin to "you invite them in to keep your school safe, but slowly they usurp more and more control and authority". Which considering the repeated bullying and karate incidents at the school in Cobra Kai, we might see the school end up inviting the Alpha Elite in to "keep the students safe" via forming a Chapter there, not knowing what they're inviting into their midst.
Dugan wasn't really fleshed out in " The Next Karate Kid" he was very one dimensional in the movie. Unlike Kreese, we got to see many sides of him in the First , Second and Third Karate Kid movies and we got to see how methodical Terry Silver was. We really don't know that much about Dugan.
If it means getting Michael Ironside chewing the scenery. YES! It would be interesting though if he actually turned out to be the most stable of them all, after 30 years of treatment. I thought Terry Silver was gonna turn out to be the voice of reason that would bring Kreese back to his senses, but I guess I was wrong on that.
Silver was always a psychotic . No way he was going to he the voice of reason. This show is great, but it's also very Riverdale. Everyone flip flopping to different sides constantly. It's great so bringing in Duggan and Julie Pierce and even Ned and Eric would be interesting.
All I want is a prequel series to Cobra Kai where it focuses on Kreese after the flashbacks in series 3. Imagine, Kreese and Silver making the foundation of CK, learning more Tang Soo Do and competing in the Army Karate Champs. Who does Kreese face in the Tournament I hear you ask? Col. Dougan of course
Another great video, Mr. Cole! I'd been wondering what your next video would be about. It's very much possible Dugan and Kreese/Silver *have* crossed paths. Seeing Young Kreese vs. Young Dugan in a 1970-1972 Army Karate Championships flashback would be another cool way to bring Dugan into Cobra Kai, even if just as an Easter Egg.
I would love for Dougan to return in Season 5 or 6. The producers confirmed that they are planning at least 8 seasons of Cobra Kai. I would love to see Col Dougan return and be the soldier in the cage with Kreese and Silver. I could imagine that Silver brings him back to help him train his students in season 6. Silver will need all the help he can get because now Daniel, Johnny and Chozen will be working together, heck maybe Julie returns and joins them in training the Miyagi Do and Eagle Fang students. with that quarted working together Silver will be in deep troubles, he’ll need Mike Barnes and Dougan to come and help him train his students
Very interesting stuff there Ken, I actually haven't seen the karate kid film he is in but i have to say i am a massive fan of Michael Ironside and if this is a possible way to bring him into the Cobra Kai universe it would not be a mistake to bring him in. He does for sure have the right style on screen for a bad guy and what you mentioned about the flash backs could well be him.
Dang Ken , I'm at 5 minutes in and wondering to myself if those POWs could have been Duggan. Then you brought it up. Way to be on point with all the angles. Great video perspective.
I could definitely see Dugan appearing in season 5 to keep things fresh. I don't think we need him in season 4 as we have Silver to mix things up and I'd like to see Mike Barnes before Dugan (which we probably will)
@Mike H Nah... these writers are smart, they'd know that bringing in Mike Barnes in the same season as both Terry Silver and Kreese would be too much. So they will most likely leave Barnes for S5 or a very brief cameo in S4. Plus, like Terry's return and every other OG return, it would have to be organic, not like another show(Supernatural) where they just toss them in with little to no explanation or story. Once again, they are smart writers, so Barnes would have to fit into the story in some way, which probably won't work for S4 since the focus will mostly be on Terry Silver coming back.
I actually never thought that soldier in the NAM flashback could be col Dugan now that I look at them he has a general young look to Dugan like the kreese and silver actors in the flashbacks I actually think that could be the only way he and Julie can be introduced in cobra Kai because the writers said they want to involve all the characters that includes the Next karate kid characters he could be in s5 as one of the ‘old friends to help out with cobra Kai’ like Mike Barns because silver wants to open many dojo’s he needs a lot of sensei’s to teach at them
When Julie Pierce comes back hell ya I want to see Col. Dugan again. He has revenge on his mind still if they decide to keep him as a instructor who has a east coast dojo coming in to the All Valley or some veteran bum on the street that finds out where she is.
You by far have the best Cobra Kai/Karate Kid videos on the net. Great explanations of the characters and lore, and all possible theories are logical and based on facts. And catch the smallest things that no one else does ❤️
If Dugan did serve with Kreese and Silver, the fact that he don't have "skills on the level of Terry Silver and Karate Champion John Kreese" could be because he only ever received the basic training in Tang Soo Do that George Turner had to offer, while Kreese and Silver had that _plus_ additional training under Master Kim himself.
Dugan is someone Daniel might actually have the ability to defeat. It is ABSURD the way Daniel defeats Silver and Kreese. Both Kreese and Silver are on a higher level than Daniel LaRusso or Chozen - the idiot that lost to a teenage Daniel in Karate Kid 2.
Kreese is 75 years old. Even when he was younger, his skills weren't very impressive. Daniel pulled some new moves on him, that he had recently learned from Chozen. Daniel beat Silver only after his fight with Chozen. Silver won the first round with Daniel easily, but when there were witnesses, Daniel embarrassed Silver.
@@Hello_Ladies Kreese may be 75 years old, but Kreese is still in excellent physical condition. I completely disagree with you when you say, "Even when he was younger, his skills weren't very impressive." Karate Kid 2 showed us Kreese was capable of easily defeating Johnny Lawrence and multiple other Cobra Kai students simultaneously. And we know John Kreese was superior to Terry Silver when both of them were physically in their prime, because Kreese was the Karate Champion of the Army multiple years in a row. We saw Myagi easily defeat Mike Barnes. Myagi defeated John Kreese, but it took very advanced moves to do so. Myagi also defeated Terry Silver, and embarrassed Terry Silver by spilling paint all over him. Plus, Terry Silver had the advantage of being the last to fight Myagi - which showed Terry Silver he needed to be very careful. Movies and TV shows often send the message that the "Older" characters are supposed to be seen as "Experienced" forms of "Instructors" that are virtually invincible. That is why Myagi was virtually invincible in the "Karate Kid" movies. I was truly hoping John Kreese would have been invincible in the "Cobra Kai" TV series that is named after him.
After watching season 5 and re watching the next KK , I think this may well be the case, in one of he first scenes when he is training in the school yard, he grabs the throat of one of his students very similar move that chozen does to Daniel when he tells him about master Kim and Tang Soo Do. Could this mean that Dugan studied under master Kim during the Vietnam war?
If they have not met up in the Cobra Kai series flashback scene (interesting and plausible theory btw), it is fair to assume that Dugan knows Kreese by reputation for the 3 years Karate championship in the U.S. Army. Heck, maybe the reputation of Kreese could have influenced Dugan's career path after the army.
This is an excellent point. It’s highly likely Dugan knows exactly who Kreese is and as you say, Dugan may have looked up to and been influenced by Kreese.
I always thought it was funny how Dugan promised Eric that he could get get him into the Air Force Academy, but no mention that a letter of recommendation from Miyagi, a winner of the Medal of Honor, could quite possibly, and very likely get Eric into the Academy as well. I find it unlikely, albeit not impossible, that Dugan has such an accolade. The reason I doubt it is because Dugan mentions his Army experience, but never mentions his awards... Not likely for someone like Dugan to not mention something like that. Many veterans don't like to speak about his/her war experiences, but Dugan, to me at least, just does not seem to fit that mold. Anyway, as Miyagi himself told Daniel, the medal only proved he was lucky, not brave. As for Dugan knowing Kreese and Silver? Possible, maybe even plausible. Being in the same unit in a war does not mean they all go home together to the same city and meet every Friday night for beer and billiards. Most go home to wherever their family/friends are, or wherever they can get a job and make a living, but some do stick together, and/or keep in contact in their post military lives.. I could certainly envision Dugan conditioning and sparring with the Cobra Kai students as Kreese and Silver look on in preparation of the tournament. He could certainly be the guy in the flashback. Maybe he will be in season 4... and/or/maybe future seasons. It would absolutely take a serious character overhaul to make Dugan fit to stand with Kreese and Silver as a formidable and believable villain, and not look like just a lackey. If they want that kind of character in the show, let them bring back Sting Ray...
Great points! You're right, I think Eric would be much better off with Miyagi's recommendation. And you talking about Dugan got me thinking, it's probably very likely he knew ABOUT John Kreese. After all, Kreese was US Army karate champion for three years. That's a rare honor I'm sure, and Dugan may have admired Kreese even if he didn't compete against him or know him personally.
In Cobra Kai just before Armand went to the Cobra's Gym, there was a scene where Kreese was seeing a photograph from Vietnam days. There were 3 guys on the picture: Silver, Kreese and probably Dugan.
I tweeted Hayden Schlossberg if Dugan was coming back and he said that Dugan has come up quite a lot in the writers room but want to find a way to bring him back that’ll make sense, we gotta tweet him this video because this theory does make a lot of sense
Colonel Dugan was an army Colonel and commanding officer in the army in Vietnam. While Kreese and Silver were ex-special forces in the U.S. Army, Kreese was an infantry captain, former army karate champion and both John and Terry were far stronger, more skilled and highly trained in karate than Dugan with his above average civilian skilled army combatitive training composed of some boxing, kickboxing, Judo, and Jiu-jitsu or Krav Maga. So Kreese or Silver would destroy Dugan easily. But Dugan vs your average joe or lesser skilled opponent would win.
That flashback was pretty convincing. Wouldn’t be a stretch to include him in a later season. It would have to take some good writing to not feel contrived, though
I didn’t notice it when I watched season 3, but that’s where they set up the introduction of Colonel Dugan and the Alpha Elite. Not only with the POW camp but also with the parent school board meeting in episode 1. My theory for season 6 is that the Alpha Elite will be brought into West Valley. After reconnecting with Kim Da-Eun, Kreese who is on the run will connect with Colonel Dugan and that will lead to an alliance between the Alpha Elite and Kim Da-Eun’s way of the fist students. And that will lead to Julie Pierce coming in
Ken you remind me of my grandfather that's passed on, you have such a calm disposition and voice and you also manage to offer new ideas and talking points without being irritating. Thank you! That is one of the most interesting theories you've ever put across. If that was Dugen who killed the first soldier, that would explain why he is the way he is.
Thanks for this man. Amazing possibilities. Imagine if Col Dugan comes back and it turns out he is Dmitri's uncle or something. Season 4 will be epic. You think Mike Barnes is returning?
@@KenCole The actor Sean Kanan has given subtle hints that he is indeed returning. I think Mike Barnes' character will be a hybrid of Chozen. He will still be against Larusso, but also a rival of Silver. I feel these writers are creative to the point they won't give Barnes a redemption arc like Chozen. We shall see.
Mike Barnes I bet will appear in season five. Perhaps a surprising cliffhanger on the last episode of season four which is where Barnes shows up all of a sudden!
Dugan like everything with tnkk is cheesy and OTT but Ironside is great and the Cobra kai writers can make something good of him. Good catch on the young soldier before kreeses fight being Dugan
Ya know? I always pondered about if Dugan knew Kreese (and possibly Silver too) I mean they did serve in the military after all, but after watching this interesting theory, I wonder that even more, especially that one theory about the mystery guy possibly being Dugan, I wouldn't be surprised if it was confirmed to be him!
Silver will probably ask Dugan for help once Mike will decline(there is a chance he turned over a new leaf). Silver and Dugan will try to hire Ned(who probably turned over a new leaf aswell). Given Silver's wealth and Dugan's military connections, they will turn Cobra Kai to a youth movement.
Um why would Silver ask Dugan for anything? Dugan doesn't know any karate, he was just army combatives, he's obviously less skilled in fighting than both Kreese and Silver, wouldn't make any sense at all!
@@dakentaijutsu2010 Barnes and Randall were both manipulated when they were fighting Miyagi-Do(not different than Johnny or Chozen), so there is a chance that if they return to the Karate Wars, then they will help Miyago Fang. Dugan however, was a mastermind like Kreese and Silver. and Dugan's connection and prestige would help Silver spread Cobra Kai like wildfire.
No way... Dugan was in the Navy, call sign "Jester" in the Top Gun academy. He was also a smoker with no cardio. He was lying to his students to appear tougher.
I think there all three related For sure They’ll tie it up somehow Ironside a very interesting character But before he’s introduced I do see Mike Barnes coming before he does
I hope there's no relation. Soem fan theories with relationships sound neat, but it's just too coinsidential that all the people across the country and around the world are tied to some little karate tournament.
I loved one Idea I saw in the comments and would like to add to the idea. If they show kreese vs Dugan in a flashback to the old army karate tournament and this is the moment when Dugan became obsessed with the idea of not holding back after his loss to kreese in the tournament.

I always thought that Kreese and Dugan were rivals who served in different units and hated each other.
Now I’d like to see that play out!
Kreese would mop the floor with Dugan without breaking a sweat.
If they did a kreese prequel that would be really cool
Would love to see this!
THIS!! This right here!
That's a fun idea!
I always saw Dugan's fighting style as simplified military hand-to-hand combat. Like U.S. Marine Corps L.I.N.E. was in the 90's. Not martial arts.
It was army combatitive training.
LINE came from the Shanghai police training. Its essentially Kung Fu, without the forms, mixed with judo. So it totally is martial arts.
@@VanishingNomad That's funny, LINE always struck me as a simplified, brutal, and lethal derivative of akido.
I don’t think he’s connected. They just couldn’t use finish him as that was used by Kreese in karate kid. They just changed the words about a bit lol
All three were part of shadow company.
Honestly I'd love to see a scene with Martin Kove, Thomas Ian Griffith, and Michael Ironside. I think people's screens might explode.
THE DUDE WAS ALREADY IN COBRAI KAI IN THE FLASHBACKS!!!!!!!
I wouldn't be surprised if kreese makes a side trip to boston to pay an old friend a visit and finds ducan working as a security officer guard
Would love to see this!
Dang Ken , I'm at 5 minutes in and wondering to myself if those POWs could have been Duggan. Then you brought it up. Way to be on point with all the angles. Great video perspective.
Thanks, glad you were thinking that too! The possibilities are interesting for sure.
I could definitely see Dugan appearing in season 5 to keep things fresh. I don't think we need him in season 4 as we have Silver to mix things up and I'd like to see Mike Barnes before Dugan (which we probably will)
Yeah, I would agree.
Can’t go bigger than Terry Silver though 😂
@@robanah indeed!
I think that's very possible Has that would also allow Julie from the next karate kid into the cobra kai serie & help tie everything together nicely
It would definitely be fascinating to see these characters in Cobra Kai.
I actually never thought that soldier in the NAM flashback could be col Dugan now that I look at them he has a general young look to Dugan like the kreese and silver actors in the flashbacks I actually think that could be the only way he and Julie can be introduced in cobra Kai because the writers said they want to involve all the characters that includes the Next karate kid characters he could be in s5 as one of the ‘old friends to help out with cobra Kai’ like Mike Barns because silver wants to open many dojo’s he needs a lot of sensei’s to teach at them
They may have just known each other, but that is about it. They probably were not friends.
When Julie Pierce comes back hell ya I want to see Col. Dugan again. He has revenge on his mind still if they decide to keep him as a instructor who has a east coast dojo coming in to the All Valley or some veteran bum on the street that finds out where she is.
He definitely seems like the kind to hold grudges 😉
Michael Ironside played his part well and I like him as an actor. This is a great potential write-in for him
You by far have the best Cobra Kai/Karate Kid videos on the net. Great explanations of the characters and lore, and all possible theories are logical and based on facts. And catch the smallest things that no one else does ❤️
Wow, thank you! I'm speechless. I'm just glad other people enjoy talking about this stuff too 😄
@@KenCole Absolutely brilliant videos and theories. FYI: Sean Kanan is my all-time favorite actor - mostly due to his Deacon Sharpe days though lol.
@@dhirshg Thank you! And Sean Kanan is definitely a great actor.
Yes this is a great point.
@@KenCole Do you have an email or a Discord account I can reach you on? I have a great idea for a video you could make.
@@KenCole Do you have a Discord channel or something? I have an idea for a video you could make.
I don't right now but you can leave a comment if you have an idea!@@ninclow5421
@@KenCole Wouldn't that be a bit too spoilery?
This would be an interesting to solidify the entire karate kid and Kobra Kai series
@@michaelzoran Thanks you, sir. You made some very valid points.
He's a total badass!
Love to see Col Dugan team up with Kreese and Barnes and form the new Alpha Elite and get revenge on Silver
I think dugon will appear in cobra Kai season 4 with kreese and silver war buddies
I remember macchio saying anyone who interacted or knew mr. Miyagi in the karate kid universe they will or may be in cobra Kai.
💯 Indeed.
In Cobra Kai just before Armand went to the Cobra's Gym, there was a scene where Kreese was seeing a photograph from Vietnam days. There were 3 guys on the picture: Silver, Kreese and probably Dugan.
Cobra Kai and Alpha Elite work together in S6 or 7
That would be a great way to bring him on to the show. The flashback looks like a young Dugan.
I've been thinking about Colonel Dugan having something to do with Kreese and Silver in Vietnam for the past couple seasons.
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
I tweeted Hayden Schlossberg if Dugan was coming back and he said that Dugan has come up quite a lot in the writers room but want to find a way to bring him back that’ll make sense, we gotta tweet him this video because this theory does make a lot of sense
Dude you should've tweeted him if Chozen will fight Kreese in season 6!
Here's to seeing Dugan return to help his fellow former POW Kreese in season 6 of Cobra Kai👍💪👊
Don't bet on it
Dugan should come in with a two by four and call himself Hacksaw Jim Dugan. 🤣
Col. Dugan could have been a Capt. or Maj. at the time they were in Vietnam...
It's obvious Dugan served alongside Kreese and Silver in Vietnam.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the strike.
And that will lead to Julie Pierce coming in
I like yur concept and the guy in flashback does look like young Duggan
Col Dugan is here and Ready to give his Maximum response
It would so worth it to have Dugan come back just to say “maximum response.”
Thank you, that is a great compliment. Yeah, we’ll see, but it could be Dugan!
Kreese was a two-time Karate champion in the Army. It is likely they could have met at one of those tournaments as well.
Thanks for this man. Amazing possibilities. Imagine if Col Dugan comes back and it turns out he is Dmitri's uncle or something.
Season 4 will be epic.
You think Mike Barnes is returning?
Interesting! I’m confident Mike Barnes will return at some point. Not sure about Season 4 though, maybe 50/50, it could be Season 5.

If they bring back a remix of American Ninja....I'm headed for the hills...
Dugan like everything with tnkk is cheesy and OTT but Ironside is great and the Cobra kai writers can make something good of him. Good catch on the young soldier before kreeses fight being Dugan
Hilary swank and Michael Ironside in season 5
Actually they can bring him in!!
Well, he could be the next secret character reveal of Cobra Kai Season 5ive.....

Col. Dugan looks like Red foreman from that 70s show
Silver will probably ask Dugan for help once Mike will decline(there is a chance he turned over a new leaf).
I think there all three related
For sure
They’ll tie it up somehow
Ironside a very interesting character
But before he’s introduced I do see Mike Barnes coming before he does
I hope there's no relation. Soem fan theories with relationships sound neat, but it's just too coinsidential that all the people across the country and around the world are tied to some little karate tournament.

I like your work Ken. You really dig into these characters. I'm not a subscriber yet, but you almost got me, LOL!
I loved one Idea I saw in the comments and would like to add to the idea. If they show kreese vs Dugan in a flashback to the old army karate tournament and this is the moment when Dugan became obsessed with the idea of not holding back after his loss to kreese in the tournament.
Dugan trained under Master Kim Sung Yung that’s why he’s aggressive.
Definitely possible!
That's funny 😂
The young guy has an underbite like Dugan.
when Terry said he has a friend to raise Cobra Kai
I think Terry was referring him as well as Mark Barnes and others
