I had a copy of Adam's book Cover Art. In it, he writes this project got him into computer coloring from the ground floor, which explained some of the time between issues. He would take that work, expand and apply it to his covers for DC. He wrote a miniseries with the Gen 13 cast and Superman in 2000. Lee Berjemo was on art chores for that miniseries.
I loved this book. The art is phenomenal. His storytelling is on point. He's been a favorite of mine for a long time. Adam learned computer coloring from his time doing this book at Wildstorm. I think Jim Lee had him stay out in La Jolla (so he would hit the deadline no doubt 😂) Love your channel!
The "Fox" is the big theater in downtown Atlanta
Came here to say this
Adam Hughes, fuck yeah! Next we need you guys to cover his BETTY AND VERONICA issues 1-3 and the 4-issue Before Watchmen : Dr. Manhattan.
This is a masterclass - and he's gotten better since then. Damn.
Never understood why this didn't blow up... until now. THANK YOU, CARTOONIST KAYFABE! ^_^
I love Hughs' work. I think he's referencing Cory Everson for Caitlin. His is so, so good. I wish he'd do more books.
You talking about Cory Everson the female bodybuilder ????
Kevin Maguire meets Alphonse Mucha. Always liked his AH! sound effect signature. Fun vid as always
Omg. THIS is the book that made me LOVE Adam Hughes. Cant watch this right at this moment cause im at work, but i hope you guys found the art as cool as i did. This was where it seemed to me that Hughes leveled up to a whole new plateau…. And ive loved him ever since.
I have always heard the story that When Wildstorm hired Adam Hughes to draw this... they also hired a bodyguard to hang out in the studio to keep an eye on Adam. To make sure he worked on the story to make his deadline.
I’m gonna straight out shout about this book before the video. I found it so refreshing to see hughes art here.
Adam's Rainmaker + Disney's Pocahontas
Great comic. Shame he's a founding member of the "cats who only do covers" gang. Our loss
He graces us with interiors every few years
Chekov's teddy bear!
Ah... this. What I remember was the months long delay between both issues - which was a bugbear at the shop I was at the time with ALOT of Image books (Deathmate, Art of Erik Larsen, etc.). 😮
Please do a Body Bags video. One of the best things from this era.
CLASSIC FOR SURE!
Watchmen makes literary references, other comics make watchmen references
This is awesome. Adam Hughes in this era was easily in the top five artists at the Big Three, although his output was sparse. His Wildcats/X-Men issue is probably my favorite depiction of the X-Men, especially Wolverine, in a single issue.
Hugh's was such a-GREAT-artist and did an out-standing job on these issues. His style and figure work reminds me of Frank Cho's art,who I was LOVE. LOL. I wish Tomorrows Publishing would've done a magazine on Hughs, that would've been nice.
They did a magazine on him, in the COMIC BOOK ARTIST magazine run.
Classic.
G d it, I am such a mark. This was an insta-buy bc it's Adam Hughes that is new-to-me, falling in my blindspot (dipped from comix a year or so before it came out, lasting over a decade)
I have this with all my other Gen 13 TPBs that I know will totally be worth something someday… 😂
My favorite quote from these books was someone (don't remember who) said something about 50%, and Grunge blurts out, "Dude, that's almost half!" Classic.
I love Hughes. I personally prefer his JL work . He did a great Captain America mini series in the early 90’s
Wait! I have this series. Completely forgot about it's existence 😂
I'd love if you did an episode on body bags!
I requested that too, but I think they could be avoiding it because of the Panda character. Understandably so. Edit: They mentioned that they should look at Body Bags in this video, so it could be on the cards.
Alan Davis wasn't a slouch either... :)
I’m getting you guys basically nitpicking this and I don’t blame you because it’s gorgeous. Though the little tangents still bug me all these years later..
I always thought Lynch was based on Nick Cave sometimes and Eastwood other times.
