    Nice review Andrew! This lens came on my first Nikon RF, an S3. For years it was my only Nikon RF lens and made some really memorable pictures with it. As time went by and the collection grew I did get the 50/1.4 Olympic replica that came on my 2000 S3 and that lens is certainly in a different league! But I still shoot this 5cm f1.4 and the 5cm f/2. I’ve found the f/2 works best for me for B&W, my 1.4 is a multi coated version and like it most on colour. I’ve had particularly good results from it with Ektar 100 and at night with Cinestill 800T at F/2. I’m really happy to have found a channel that covers Nikon RF stuff! 👍🏻

      Glad you liked the video. I also think that Ektar 100 looks good with the 50mm f2. I would love to have the Olympic lens.... someday I suppose.

    Nice work Andrew. I'm not into antique cameras and lenses, but I got started in photography seriously with the acquisition of a Nikon F back in the late '60s but never saw any of their rangefinder models.

      The rangefinders are not common, but the F and SP are the same cameras mechanically.

      @@andrewsmithphoto I can spot a number of common exterior parts like the film advance lever, self-timer lever, shutter release button, rewind knob to name a few. I wonder if the back panel slides off the camera like on the F?

    • @andrewsmithphoto
      @andrewsmithphoto  2 года назад

      @@psoon04286 Yes it does, and the back panel is interchangeable between the S3, S4, SP and F and even the S2 to some extenet.

      @@andrewsmithphoto Now you’re getting curious about the rangefinder parentage of my venerable F. Will likely pick one up if a nice looking one appears on Craigslist.

      @@psoon04286 I hope you do, they are very nice cameras with criminally underrated lenses, but they are not all too common and rarely pop up on Craigslist or the likes.

    Im not giving up on my hard earned sc 50/ 1.4 nikon. Im just not familiar with its limits yet. Used to be anything 1.4 was fast and good. Thats my story and im stikon 2 it!

      It is (best I recall) the bridge leading to the Florida Keys.

    I concure any close ups with 50 1.4 nikon at wide open will blurr!

    I have several 5cm f1.4 Nikkor lenses in LTM and S mount..I really cannot stand the veiling flare when the lens is used fully open at f1.4

      I didn't really test it with backlighting. But I could imagine this is true.

    For me F1.4 is only helpful with focusing. Because I can see the image better in lower light. I never shoot at F1.4 personally usually stopped down F4 to F8. But that is for SLR cameras. Rangefinder doesn't make any difference. So I can see no sense in paying more for F1.4. IMHO

    • @andrewsmithphoto
      @andrewsmithphoto  2 месяца назад

      But you can't see through the lens on RFs, you looking through a window so is doesn't apply to these cameras.
