  • In this second vintage lens repair video looking at the Nikkor-H (Nikon) 50mm f2 lens, we'll swap the damaged rear element for a replacement one and then test the lens, both for stills and for shooting video on a Micro Four Thirds camera.
In the first video we repaired a damaged filter thread, sorted out some dry grease in the focusing helicoid, cleaned the optics and had a go (predictably unsuccessfully) at polishing out some of the damage to the rear element.

This lens was definitely worth the effort - it's a very good lens with few bad traits - maybe it's not full of character like some old fast fifty's but as a carry around lens it's excellent.
The VILTROX focal reducer/speed booster that I used in this video seems to work really well, but it's worth noting that it had to be tweaked so I could achieve infinity focus, and at the time there was no mention of this in the instructions. The glass element section within the adapter is on a screw thread, allowing it to be screwed inwards and outwards - it's a bit of a trial and error method until you home in on a perfect infinity setting. Be very careful not to screw the glass section too far towards the lens in such a way that it will hit the rear element of the lens when attached!!!!
