How to Make An Effective Ham Sandwich | Jiu-Jitsu Submissions

- The Ham Sandwich is a compression style submission that has been around a long time, but like many submissions, it waxes and wanes in popularity. I think this is partially because of the trends in guard passing styles, which would explain a lot. In this video, I show some of the setups, entries and finishing details for this extremely useful and efficient submission, as well as what distinguishes it from the calf slicer it is commonly mistaken for.
Always be as safe as possible in training and competition. I hope these details help. Thanks as always for watching!

I liked the truck tie in. Helped me see some of this better.
1:35 from deep half
3:36 from butterfly sweep
5:11 from turtle/truck to calf slicer
6:40 countering shallow dela riva
One of my favorite subs. Ever since I saw bmac do it it has become a part of my game. People do not expect it that's for sure
I'll say im a black belt for the sake of telling you this was incredible instruction. Great video
I usually start with 2 pieces of bread, several slices of ham, and some cheddar cheese. Mayo and mustard. Don’t be a psycho and out on any vegetables on a ham sandwich. This setup is cool as well I suppose.
Your way sounds much more delicious than mine.
"He doesn't have to sit here and let me break his leg..." damn, professor. I cracked up at that, but it also illustrates how powerful/dangerous this move can be. I've honestly been afraid to try it out because I'd feel terrible if I accidentally hurt someone.
It’s not that dangerous compared to a lot of submissions. It’s actually pretty safe because there is a lot of muscle involved, giving the person more time to feel the pain preceding the break so they have more time to tap safely.
But I do appreciate you laughing at my jokes though. I try to put some humor in there sometimes.
@@KnightJiuJitsu Thanks for the response, professor! My training buddy and I are going to drill this at our next open mat session, looking forward to it.
We were working on this last week, starting from butterfly guard works better for me, but still need to rep it out a million times. Thx for great breakdown video, every little bit helps.. 👍🤓🤘🏻🔥
Awesome. Hope this helps!
Awesome video Eli! Such great, quality, and concise information packed into these 8 minutes! Love the choice of topic too!

You doing great job. I am glad to see that. Keep going. Thanks
Knight jj! Pin taffer’s time stamp comment! What a G!
Great video! Awesome move!
Great explanation coach ! Can you make a video/give tips about closed guard more precisely how to counter an opponent who stalls and just lays in your guard making you unable to move.
That’s a great topic for a video! Thanks and I’ll do my best.
Eye gouges work best I find
@@kenglynn9518 elbows can work as well, but that's not the point. I'm talking about bjj setting
Very interesting 🖒👍👌
Make some Noise ~!
Now I'm hungry
Mission accomplished
Suddenly I'm hungry...
"How to make a good ham sandwich"
Google : Put one or two slice of ham with other vegetables on a bread slice, add some mayo and olive oil and top it with another slice of bread.
BING:
is a white belt allowed to do this?
Not usually. Depends on the tournament, but usually slicers are illegal until brown or black.
Tragic. It was working so well last night during training haha 😅
Instruction unclear. I'm still hungry.
