I had the sabrina gym as a kid. It the one where brock and misty got turned into dolls and haunter saves the day with the help of the old man. It was heartbreaking for a lot of children in the 1990s when Charizard was the reason why Ash lost the Pokémon league. But the animators/Director of the Pokémon series could’ve made a storyline for the orange island where Ash realizes that even though he’s a heroic person, he didn’t really deserve to win the Pokémon league because of how many times he was rewarded badges, instead of winning with rematches. And then Charizard also respects the grind that Ash is doing, and then this leads them to bond. I think that would’ve been a better storyline about Ash realizing that, even though he is heroic, he hast to do things the right way instead of being gifted badges
Still somehow got Top 16 and lost in a pretty unfair way. He got kidnapped prior to the fight and two of his Pokemon were exhausted in breaking him free and getting him to the tournament on time. It also didn't help that he had to resort to Charizard who didn't listen to him.

that was funny as hell man! love your comedic style and flow through the video! Keep up the good work! On a side note, growing up watching Pokemon here and there, I was always confused by the gym leader battles. I agree with the bs of them basically just giving Ash the badges but one thing I never understood about the show was not utilizing the pokemon rules of weaknesses. 1. Why would Ash use an electric type to battle ground when ground is electric's weakness? 2. Fighting Raichu with another electric Pokemon 3. Charmander being taken down so easily in Erika's gym when fire is grass pokemon's weakness 4. Fighting fire with a fire type in Blaine's battle. The blaine one was just good entertainment so I can agree with that one especially with the lava stunts but some of those other ones just make no sense at all. I'm not saying they should've made every battle with Ash going out and getting the pokemon who can play on their weaknesses every time but they definitely could've added more variety to the show instead of freebies galore.

People Critize some of Ash's Unova Gym battles, like the infamous Elesa battle, but honestly, At least Ash beat Elesa. Unlike, Brock, Misty, Sabrina, Erika, HECK, even Giovanni he didn't really beat, he beat the team rocket trio. Honestly, I think I am with everyone else in that I'm glad that Ash actually won his gym badges from Johto onward with legit battle wins. Ash honestly never should have gone to the Kanto League. He deserved it in Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos. If anything, the failures of Kanto helped Improve Ash for later regions.
I give him shit for Elesa because he's supposed to know better by then. This was after _Sinnoh_ Ash, who I hold up was the smartest, most creative and innovative he's ever been. Yeah, his team in Journeys is cracked, but I'm not convinced he hit the same level of unpredictability he hit in Johto. This dude's whole style is _meant_ to make you cry bullshit, and ask "wtf, you can DO that?" But then in Unova, he got the IQ Reset because he wasn't travelling with a new trainer this time, so HE had to act like the newbie so the anime could pull its tutorializing shit. Despite the fact that the dude just made it to the Semifinals, and took down a Darkrai that _literally no one else in the entire Region could beat._
In case you forgot Sakaki left them in charge of the gym while it might have sucked they were still technically the leaders of the gym. Next off they cheated in their battle against him and still lost while doing it. So while it might have felt like BS Ash still won that battle and earned his badge there.
These OG episodes with gym battles were wacky but in a creative way that we don't see much anymore. Gotta love how much personality the silly Ghosts have, the Pika-Rai rivalry and how creepy Sabrina's backstory is, not to mention the sprinklers and Blaine
80% of the Gym Leaders gave Ash their badges cuz they felt sorry for him. Only exceptions were Blaine and whatever Team Rocket was trying to cook in Gym 8.

Love your videos man!
Yeah but for real they overpowered the shit out of psychic types in the show.

I had the Blaine gym battle on VHS as a kid and would rewatch it to death, the tape is all scratched up from the rewinding but that’s expected. My absolute favorite gym battle of the first season.
I had the sabrina gym as a kid. It the one where brock and misty got turned into dolls and haunter saves the day with the help of the old man. The “you must be her photographer” on her father line was one of my favorite. That was my favorite episode as a kid, didn’t have any other episodes unfortunately.
For me it was the 1st Pokémon movie. We didnt have cable so I watched it basically every day after school
the blaine battle was one of those iconic episodes i just never saw as a kid. and i think i saw every other gym battle episode. i feel like they didn't play that one on tv as much. i don't think i saw that ep until i watched all of indigo league on like netflix or something. i also never understood why he looked so different from his video game counterpart. ironically his disguise looks more like Blaine than Blaine does
Same
The biggest issue with the gym battle (not story related)... is the safety violations regarding the gym's location.
I wish they never made the March of the Exeggutor Squad 😪
@@retroguy9233I agree! I hate that episode!

Still somehow got Top 16 and lost in a pretty unfair way. He got kidnapped prior to the fight and two of his Pokemon were exhausted in breaking him free and getting him to the tournament on time. It also didn't help that he had to resort to Charizard who didn't listen to him.

@@x3mskbordTo also be fair, Rattatta would've been WAY better as a choice by type advantage alone
@AmatMiguel maybe he wasn't able to catch a rattata. Or maybe that rattata that we saw that was all charred up was also his. Or maybe big brain play: since everything was getting one-shotted regardless of type advantage anyway, he ignored types completely and just hoped for sand attack hax. Who knows? But one thing we do know is, type matchups are almost never relevant in the anime; we've got literal ground types getting hit with electricity

Ash has to be the biggest fraud in the first series
And in Johto
And in Hoenn
And in Sinnoh
@@xpdev0 What kind of fraudulent activity was going on in those seasons. The only times I can think of are his battle against Whitney being kind of scuffed and him (unknowingly) cheating against Wattson. The rest were fair and square.
@@castform7actually Ash never cheated against the Wattson because even if Pikachu got a power up from absorbing the electricity from the mechanic it broke in self-defense its no different if Pikachu had the Lightning Rod ability and in the pokedex entire their tails are always getting struck by lightning anyways plus powering up electric Pokemon with electricity isn't illegal infact it's in their very nature to take in electricity

2. Fighting Raichu with another electric Pokemon
3. Charmander being taken down so easily in Erika's gym when fire is grass pokemon's weakness
4. Fighting fire with a fire type in Blaine's battle.
The blaine one was just good entertainment so I can agree with that one especially with the lava stunts but some of those other ones just make no sense at all. I'm not saying they should've made every battle with Ash going out and getting the pokemon who can play on their weaknesses every time but they definitely could've added more variety to the show instead of freebies galore.
i'm never gonna get tired of these recaps, keep em coming

Pryce actually gave Ash the badge despite him loosing in Johto. But that's the last time it ever happened.

This dude's whole style is _meant_ to make you cry bullshit, and ask "wtf, you can DO that?"
But then in Unova, he got the IQ Reset because he wasn't travelling with a new trainer this time, so HE had to act like the newbie so the anime could pull its tutorializing shit. Despite the fact that the dude just made it to the Semifinals, and took down a Darkrai that _literally no one else in the entire Region could beat._
