    This video is AMAZING. I just got accepted today for Fall 2017. I have read reviews online about how SCAD is horrible, a waste of time, ect... and I had a hard time believing it since I have gone to the summer seminars for the past two years and fallen in love with it. Seeing someone like you give such a positive review means the world to me. You seem so dedicated and involved, and now I know that must be the key to happiness at SCAD. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS! You are a shining example of a student, you obviously have such a bright future, and your personality is lovable and honest!

      Thank you so much for this comment!!!! I truly and honestly appreciate it this comment, I almost shed a tear!! To be honest, SCAD is what you make it. You definitely have to take the reigns into your own hands, do everything for your career, and make sure you are having fun and having a fulfilling time while doing it. I really hope that you enjoy SCAD when you get there. Good Luck!!

    Great info for Freshman students (and moms;) As I write this, my daughter is 35 minutes late to her 8:00am class and because she said she is considered absent why should she bother going. I had just watched your video and told her what you said - that after 15 minutes you were considered tardy and 4 tardies = 1 absence. She said that was wrong so I double checked on the SCAD website and it may have changed since you made this video. This is their actual policy...
    "Tardiness, early departure or other time away from class in excess of 15 minutes per class session is considered absence for that class session. Classes missed due to late registration are included in the overall absences permitted for the class. Absences in excess of four class periods per quarter, or 20 percent of the course, result in the student receiving a failing grade for the course, unless the student withdraws from the course in accordance with the withdrawal policy."

    Hey Amelia! I just got accepted into SCAD! My biggest concern is that I won't enjoy myself. Everyone says it's very hard and you have a lot of sleepless nights. I'm willing to work hard, but are you able to spend time with your friends and have fun?(and no, I don't mean partying) I want be able to balance work and free time so I can accomplish a lot but still enjoy myself as a college student.

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  6 лет назад

      Alex Linhardt Hey Alex! It's all about time management. I have a SUPER busy schedule here at SCAD with all the activities, plays/films I participate it and homework that I need to do, but I still always have time to relax and enjoy the company of my friends. You have to be aware of your schedule and make sure you take the time out to do your homework, or study, or even a scheduled time to hang out with friends. Obviously keep your school work as a priority. So there will be times where you may need to sit out on going out with friends to complete an assignment, but that is ultimately what you are in school to do. Don't worry, because there will be plenty of times to relax and have fun. I hope this helps!

  • @crisnellyblossoms28

    OMG! You're absolutely awesome! If there's many people like you over there, I'm totally looking foward to going! (If I even get in) My native language is Spanish so there some words that are new to me like syllabus (can you tell me what that is? >.>) and I'm scared that I miss something out and don't get the opportunities I'm looking for.

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  7 лет назад

      Thank you so much! And baby, you have all types of resources available to you at SCAD as well as on the internet. There are a lot of international students here who speak Spanish, so finding a buddy to speak with you won't be too hard. There is always google translate when you can't understand some english words, or don't know how to translate some spanish words. And you should get a Spanish to English dictionary as well. But then again always do the best for you.
      A syllabus is a packet that you should get from each class detailing what you will be doing in each class for the whole quarter or semester. You find out which books you need for the class, The schedule for the class, and how you will be graded as well. I hope this helps!

    Hi Amelia. So I have a ton of questions. I'm going to SCAD for performing arts and I recently toured the school. What are the guidelines for auditioning for performing arts?

    hi I've been wanting to go to SCAD since like the beginning of my Freshman year in high school I'm currently a junior and I hope to be visiting scad in Savannah on scad day on a field trip pretty soon. I want to major in illustration but I don't know what I want to minor in, maybe something a little out of my comfort zone. maybe fashion design I've always wanted to learn how to make clothes. anyway km rambling and I hope to visit the school and learn a ton thanks for such an amazing video have a blessed day

    I'm only 13 but I have been obsessed with scad for years! I lived in Atlanta all my life but last year I moved down to Savannah but I'm back now lol I'm just stressing which one is eventually go to. yes I know I'm only 13 but I'm extremely determined to go here someday

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  7 лет назад +1

      Mikayla Daniely Definitely don't stress right now about where you will go. I feel as you get closer to applying there could be a lot of things that change in the next four or so years, and in sure you will definitely have a set decision on where you wanna go by then. And you can always transfer from the Savannah campus to the Atlanta Campus or vice versa. But definitely don't stress about it now.

  • @avery1541
    @avery1541 8 лет назад +7

    this video is awesome new subscriber btw😂but yo im 16 and i been looking into this college for a while I wanna go to this school just started my junior year of high school btw but I wanna major in game design and minor in business design and management but it seems like on of the more boring and less social opportunities at scad is that true?

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  8 лет назад +2

      Well #1 You still have a lot of time to think about what you want to major and minor in, so that is awesome that you have a head start! I think regardless of the major being "boring", you should pick a major that you love and you know that you will make a career out of. If the major is not "boring" to you and it is something you want to achieve in life then you should go for it. In terms of social opportunities, the social game is whatever you make it. There will always be a way for you to make connections in whatever major you are at this school. I think business management, will actually help you a lot with making connections and progressing in your career, so those sound like good choices to me, but it is all up to you and how you feel about them.
      I hope this helps!

  • @livbishop3750
    @livbishop3750 8 лет назад

    I absolutely love this video! You are so funny and a great personality to represent SCAD. I'm a freshman this fall and I am really excited. Do you use clubSCAD at all? Also, are there scholarship ops during the school year you can apply for?

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  8 лет назад

      Thank you so much!! And Congratulations!! During the first quarter of my first year, I actually did go to ClubSCAD to do their Zumba classes. But since that quarter, I haven't been back since. It is actually my goal this year to get a trainer at ClubSCAD so I can focus more on fitness, and hopefully I can keep up with it. To answer your second question, there is a time in April where you can do a general one time application for a variety of SCAD scholarships. If you meet the requirements during the first general application, then it will take you from there. Hopefully these answered your questions!!

  • @TheSupersam5555

    BTW the rule is over 15 minutes late is one absences and you can have 4 absences but if you hit 5 absences you FAIL the class and are forced to drop it and but you do still lose the money you payed for that class. SO SAVE YOUR ABSENCES FOR FINALS WEEK!!!!!!

    Hi! For performing arts I was just how much experience should you have prior to applying for performing arts at SCAD? I have always loved acting but up until this past year my social anxiety always prevented me from going out and auditioning but now that I no longer have that happening and am finally auditioning for parts and love doing it I'm worried that I won't have enough experience to get into the program

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  7 лет назад

      marley mae To be truthful I can't put a number or range to the amount of experience you should have to be in the program. If there is a thirst and an openness and willingness to learn and be taught then you will go far. And I'm almost sure they don't pick people for the program on their experience, so no worries! I'm super glad you are getting over your anxiety and getting those roles! Congratulations!

    I know this is a p old video, so idk if you're still answering questions, but I just got my acceptance letter to scad and now I'm stressing over the pacing for dorms. Do they allow microwaves/toaster ovens in the rooms? Weird question I know, but I've never lived on a campus before so I'm unsure

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  5 лет назад

      Hey! I don't believe toaster ovens are allowed, but you can ave a microwave if your rent through the schools system. The package would be a microwave and a fridge but you can't have a microwave by itself. You can ave your own mini fridge in your dorm (you have two fridges in each dorm).
      And no its not a weird question, its pretty fair. I would also read the list of things you can carry into your dorm and the requirements for those things on the schools website. They also send you documents with that information, but here is a general link.

    Im moving in in six days. And I am so, so scared. I feellike I am going to get so overwhelmed. I never procrastinate and I try to keep up. But I am so nervous that the work is still going to be too much for me. Im in Design 100, Drawing 101 and English 123. How is the safety there? I have two classes 5-7:30, will I be safe coming home? Also, are you ALWAYS swamped with work? do you ever have any time to just sit back and take a breath? I get overwhelmed easily haha

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  7 лет назад +1

      First: BREATHE. I think worrying just increases the fear, and overwhelms you even more. Trust me, because I have really bad anxiety as well. In terms of workload, SCAD does keep you really busy. But like you said, don't procrastinate! Don't start working on something the night before it is due. Try to start once you get the project, especially with design and drawing, because those might consume the most time.
      Safety at SCAD is just like at any other city. I say always be aware of your surroundings, and cautious of where you go at night. Always walk with a group of people, or another one of your friends if you're going anywhere at night. Sometimes I even call my mom to talk to me until I get to my destination, if I'm traveling by myself at night.
      But to be honest, if you keep up with your work, you will be fine!! Don't worry love, and just keep breathing💕 I hope this helps!

    I am 21 and wanting to apply for SCAD and major in film particularly film editing. Which city is better Savannah or Atlanta? And which dorm is best?

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  7 лет назад +1

      Jasmine Malone Atlanta is better in terms of job wise and opportunity, but Savannah holds the film major and is also great in terms of opportunity. A lot of films shoot in Savannah, which is the campus I am enrolled in.
      Dorms are definitely a personal matter, I'm not sure if you mean in Savannah or Atlanta. But I know Atlanta dorms are very spacious. ACA house in Atlanta gives you your own separate room with one other roommate, a kitchen area,, and a full bathroom. In Savannah, Barnard and Boundary are the same as ACA. You get your own separate room, but the suite is shared with three other people. You get two bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. Since you are 21 I figure you would want something more like that, but there are a lot of dorm options in Savannah. I reside in O-House, which doesn't give you much space or a separate room, but it is a central location, and a great area for my major building, and the gym and cafeteria are right downstairs. I'm also a five minute walk from downtown.
      I hope this helps! If you have any more questions you can ask them here too. 😁

      Aryana Claiborne There are five different types of financial aid at SCAD. Academic honors, achievement honors, Need-based, State aid or federal aid. If you don't want to put in a portfolio for fashion then you should be able to qualify for one of these types of financial aid. And you don't have to put it a portfolio for fashion. You can present a portfolio in digital or time based media, visual art, fiction or nonfiction writing and a couple of others. The best thing to do would be to talk to your acceptance advisor, which should have been given after you found out you got accepted, to discuss what is personally best for your area of need. I hope this helps!!

    Hi, I'm hoping to go to SCAD for animation, and I had heard from a teacher who previously taught there that they are good on scholarships. I'm not in the greatest of financial situations, and was just curious if it was possible to obtain a scholarship to attend SCAD? I currently attend Savannah Arts Academy as a visual arts major, will that benefit in any way?

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  7 лет назад

      Otome.Queen Yes, there are a couple of ways you can get scholarships before you come to SCAD. I would recommend sending in a portfolio with work of the major you plan on going in. You can also go over this with your admission advisor, who would have more information on what is best for your personal scholarship gain. SCAD also has achievement and academic honors, so that would depend on your high school transcripts. And they also reward need-based scholarships, and there are other loans that work alongside SCAD to help cover the cost of tuition, like the Parent Plus Loan. I hope his helps!

      Carlee Renee Hi! You can take a variety of classes at SCAD. The most important thing is that your prerequisite classes cover all the bases in art, so even if you don't have skill in "tech stuff", they will definitely teach you how to improve on that.

    I will be going to SCAD this January! I have been looking into information regarding laptop requirements. Do you think it´s necessary to have one during the Foundation Studies?

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  7 лет назад

      Santiago Medrano Congratulations!! I think it's necessary to have one in general so you won't have to walk all the way to the library or the student center to get some work done on a computer. Laptops are really convenient for personal use in the dorms or in your classes. Although in your classes some professors may allow you to use technology and some may not, it all depends on your teachers rules for the classroom. I hope this helps!! Good luck at SCAD!

    Starting this fall, any tips on what one should carry on a daily basis?

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  8 лет назад +1

      Congratulations!! I think that depends on what you like to do and what your major is, I definitely say keep your id on you (SCAD and another form of id), if you have a business card that always comes in handy as well, because you never know who you will bump into. If you don't have one, then don't worry about it, because eventually you will make it into a class that will teach you how to do one. For me personally I always have a little notebook to take notes, or get someone's info to collab, and I never leave without my camera.

      +Conrad MG I have the Sony alpha 5000. I do have a bag for it, but the camera itself is pretty small, so the camera bag is small too, I carry it around like a little purse.

    Do you think it's possible to transfer to SCAD? I just graduated hs and I'm planning on going to community college because I can't afford it rn :/

    • @maddiefraley956
      @maddiefraley956 7 лет назад +4

      I went to community college and I am starting at SCAD as a transfer next month. Just contact a transfer advisor at SCAD so you know you aren't wasting time or money taking classes that don't transfer! I didn't get a full degree at my community college, I just took classes that transferred. It's definitely possible and not too tricky as long as you stay on top of your scheduling!

    • @DisparateAmelia
      @DisparateAmelia  6 лет назад +2

      Hey!!! Yes it is possible to transfer to SCAD! SCAD only permits transferring 90 credit hours from your previous program. you would still need to complete the application and provide your transcript from your previous college. I would advise speaking to a SCAD advisor when it comes to which credits can count towards your SCAD degree, but it is absolutely possible.There are also plenty of scholarship and grant opportunities when you are enrolling into SCAD, so that should help money wise. I hope this helps!!!

      I'm actually not sure if there are, I would have to look into that, but I am sure there are accommodations and help in classes for the hearing impaired at SCAD. It would be best to dig around on their website to get more info on it. I hope this helps!

It is an excellent program for you to learn more about your craft, work with professors who have helped in some of your favorite movies, and actually use some top of the line equipment. You also get to wknow tj with students who have the same passion as you. I hope this helps!

    • @DisparateAmelia

      KPOPKAYLEE Hey girl! Applying for the performing arts major is exactly the same as the regular application for SCAD. You can do an audition for the school where you can perform two monologues, a monologue and a song, or one of the two with a dance. The Auditions provide a way for scholarships, but don't really apply to admission. You can also send in a portfolio and resume for extra scholarships. I hope this helps!!
