- 18-0-1 GreenePunch™ is the cornerstone for our fertility program. In this video, Paul will go over the different application rates for both warm and cool season turf grasses. He will also touch on way we recommend applying this particular liquid fertilizer with the Ortho Dial n Spray Hose End Sprayer.
18-0-1 GreenePunch™ Lawn Fertilizer is the Nitrogen foundation product of the N-Ext™ Full Liquid Fertility Program. Recommended application rates of 18-0-1 GreenePunch™ vary depending on turf types.
18-0-1 GreenePunch™ Lawn Fertilizer is engineered to be a complete product for all varieties of turfgrass. It is formulated to produce a quick green-up response and maintain consistent color for 6-8 weeks.
18-0-1 GreenePunch™ will produce a strong root mass which will grow deeply into the soil. It will stimulate soil activity necessary for building sustainable fertility.
For DIY use, 18-0-1 GreenePunch™ Lawn Fertilizer is the recommended Nitrogen product for every lawn application. 18-0-1 GreenePunch™ is not recommended for non-irrigated lawns during periods of drought stress.
A good blueprint for 18-0-1 GreenePunch™ Lawn Fertilizer applications to cool season grasses is:
Early Spring - 20 to 24 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late Spring - 18 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Summer - 12 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late Summer - 12 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Fall - 18 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late fall - 20 to 24 ounces per 1,000 square feet
A good bluepring for 18-0-1 GreenePunch™ Lawn Fertilizer application to Bermuda and Saint Augustine grasses:
Late Winter - 16 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Spring - 16 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late Spring - 18 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Summer - 18 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late Summer - 18 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Fall - 18 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late Fall - 16 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Winter - 16 ounces per 1,000 square feet
A good blue print for 18-0-1 GreenePunch™ Lawn Fertilizer application to Zoysia and Centipede grasses:
Later Winter - 16 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Spring - 12 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late Spring - 6 to 9 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Summer - 6 to 9 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late Summer - 6 to 9 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Fall - 6 to 9 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Late Fall - 12 ounces per 1,000 square feet
Early Winter - 16 ounces per 1,000 square feet

Have you ever used growth regulator? If so i assume late May is a good time? Helps with lateral growth making your lawn more tight and lush?? Please advise. Thank you
Unfortunately I haven't. People swear by it.
Yea I made sure I watched the forecast before I applied 18-0-1. I applied then watered in the next day.
I have tall fescue and did a spring seed this year. Would it be better during late spring to change to a slow release nitrogen? 26-0-0 or 28-0-0? Thank you.
It's not totally necessary to switch. 26-0-0 GreeneCharge would be good!
New to trying to get my grass dark green and whew most of this went way over my head 🥴
Sorry about that. Depending on your lawn size, get the quart sized bottles. Very easy to apply and get the results
If you’re using the hose end sprayer does it matter if you fill it with water. I sprayed 18-0-1 and i did not dilute the product. Hope it doesnt burn the lawn. I did a low rate of 12 oz per 1,000sq ft.
You don't have to fill it with water. The hose end provides proper dilution.
Love your video but dead grass clipping sisn't thatch
Very true. Thatch has taken on a new “term” over the years, in which anything on the soil level that isn’t good grass is now considered thatch. However, it’s just debris.
You all better make sure you brought a notebook and pen. Paul's spitting mad knowledge in this one. Great job, Paul.
Thanks Ben! I really appreciate the kind words and support brother! - Castleberry
Thanks a sweet sprayer
I have been enjoying it for sure! Thanks for watching. - Castleberry
That sprayer is a beast!
It sure is! Saved me a bunch of time getting the N-Ext products down! - Castleberry
I tried that 1801 green punch with the green affect and micro green I am a professional landscaper and I finish pyramid thing on my own bluegrass lawn and to be totally honest I was not impressed with the stuff I did however like to hear make acid and RGS with the kelp but wasn’t crazy about The liquid fertilizer another two products I will probably stick to my Andersons granule and just use my liquids for fungicide and weed control
What would you use? Fescue, kbg lawn. I overseeded end of August. I just applied greenepop 2 weeks ago. Which product would you use through November, greenepunch or 901? Any recommended schedule. Im in the NE.
Thanks
I looked up the price for gallons containers since I have several acres of lawn and I will need to reapply 4 to 6 weeks in duration. So I would need 640 ounces (5 gallons) per acre of lawn for what price? I found $135 for 5 gallons @ 1 acre of lawn. I like that it has kelp and humic in it too.
Maybe be cheaper to use a sulfur coated slow release granular (8 to 12 weeks duration) and supplement with Chelated iron or Ferrous sulfate (4 to 6 week duration) for green ups. I tried the liquid lawn food and while easier and direct feeding into the lawn, it comes at a high price.
What about Bahaia Grass‽???????????‽??‽?‽
Why can't I just put 2.5 gallons of water in my pump sprayer? I never want to use a hose end again. A 20 min enjoyment turns into an hour and 15 min of irritated work. I need a long hose and it gets tangled and then kinked and the sprayer stops sifening and I have no idea where it left off spraying and if just water came out for a while and don't want to double up in areas to compensate. * Why can't I just instead of putting 16 oz in one spray; Why can't I cut that in half and spray 8 ounces twice. Fill the sprayer up with 2 gallons twice?? Shouldn't that work just as well? Or since some apps of grn punch call for 20 oz, just spray 10 oz twice??
You absolutely can, you need to be sure to water in the products afterwards. Hose-end sprayers provide the best dilution, but using pump sprayers can work well. The other thing to consider is the consistency of the spray. Pump sprayers can lead to inconsistent applications and lead to streakiness in the lawns color.
May I ask what's a good inexpensive fertilizer and liquid iron.
So would it be ok to use half rate to maintain the 20:1 and go over twice?
Absolutely.
Thank you. Great information.
You are welcome! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. - Castleberry
Your best video thus far!!!! Cool season 1st bro!!!!
Thank you so much! - Castleberry
I wish I could get rain like like that. Maybe this weekend.😪
I hope so! Hang in there! - Castleberry
Did it rain yet
@@CCCC-tq8yo yes got an 1.5 inch this past Sunday. It supposed to rain heavily into the weekend. Hopefully the drought is over.

Good info just subbed.
Awesome! Thank you.
Did you water right after? I just put a batch down today? Ty
Hello! Just put down 18-0-1 with my Chapin sprayer few days ago, watered it in. Question is about areas that appear a dark brown color from it, as though you took a marker to the grass, will this quiet down?? Thanks.
Sounds like you may have been a little heavy handed in those areas. Put down more N in those spots. It will quiet down over time. Great question and thanks for asking. - Castleberry
@@NExtDIYLawn What product for the N?
@@jasonpaist9372 meaning you put more N there vs the other spots. Not, "put more". Make sense?
@@NExtDIYLawn it does now, I misinterpreted it, thanks.
If dilution at 7:1 you could use a backpack sprayer right? So I can mix .875 gallon of water per 16oz. That would be .875 gallons of mixed product per 1000 sqft (ex my yard 7500 sqft so I would spray about 6.5 gallon of mixed product on my lawn and get the same result)
Let me know if my math is correct because I would like to use a back pack sprayer.
If I'm putting down 8oz/1000sqft on my centipede lawn; that would mean I would need 1.25 gallons of water per 8oz. If I put down 18-0-1 in 2000sqft increments, I would need 16oz (8oz x 2) of concentrate with 2.5 gallons (1.25gallons x 2) of water. Would a 4 gallon backpack sprayer be ok for this if I also have an irrigation system to water it in afterwards? Or should I stick with the Ortho?
Great question. I guess it boils down to how much you want to stop and fill up. If you dont min filling up a 4 gallon more often, you should be fine with that plan. With the Ortho, you dont have to worry at all with dilution rate or watering the product in. There is enough water flowing through that thing for you. Hope that helps. - Castleberry
@@NExtDIYLawn thank you! I think I'll stick to the Ortho for now. I appreciate the time you spend on these videos for us DIYers!
Most welcome! Happy to help. Keep on keeping on!
Perfect thank you soo much!!
I want to use my 4 gallon back sprayer and my product ways 12 oz per 1,000 sq. How many oz per gallon is that ? thanks.
You don't have enough room in the backpack to do more than 1,000 square feet at a time. In order to maintain the 20:1 dilution of (water to product) you need 240 ounces of water for every 12 oz of 18-0-1 GreenePunch. Or, 1.9 gallons of water for every 12 ounces of 18-0-1. Make sense? - Castleberry
@@NExtDIYLawn I am ok doing 1,000 sq at a time. So you are saying 12 oz per 1,000 sq = Mix 12 oz per every 1.9 gallons or 6.3 oz per gallon? to achieve the 20:1 dilution ratio?
Awesome. It would be 12 oz in 1.9 gallons of water for every 1,000 square feet to achieve the 20:1 dilution.
@@NExtDIYLawn you said that already, the question was is 6.3 oz per gallon to achieve 20:1 dilution? I know the figure for 1.9 gallons I am after the one, gallon, "1" gallon oz figure. Is it indeed 6.3oz? or did I calculate wrong?
I’ve got Bermuda, and I believe you said N-EXT doesn’t recommend using Greene Punch on it. I have it, and would like to utilize it, somehow. Please advise, and thank you for your time!
Hunter Correll He has Bermuda and that’s what he just put down.
2/3 of my yard is Bermuda and I used it. You can most certainly use GreenePunch on it! - Castleberry
How do you like that chapin sprayer? How wide does it spray? That looks perfect for my yard
I really like it! It sprays about 2 feet wide. I plan on modifying it here soon to cover more ground. For my 22k, I don't know how I could live without it. Here is a link if you want to check it out some more...

Ok question i have green start and all next products but green punch my soil test says i need 0.6 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft and phosporus 0.9 pounds per 1000 sq feet my yard is 3800 sqf suggestion doctor ???
Don't go by those recommendations. Using RGS, Humic12, Air8 and 0-0-2, you are building a better soil profile to extend the use of the Nitrogen that you will give it. Hence the N-Ext name. Nitrogen Extension! That is also why the Nitrogen input is so low in 18-0-1 GreenePunch. Using that fertilizer in conjunction with the other products, the 1/4 pound of N you are putting down with the GreenePunch is going to get stretched further and be utilized for a lot longer. Make sense? Hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions. Happy to help. - Castleberry
N-Ext DIY Lawn thanks bro gonna dominate my lawn and send u pictures to dominate in south texas its hard but will get it done
when will your product be available for California
We are actively engaged in the label registration process for California, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. Hopefully will have this resolved by the end of this year. - Castleberry
Dang it, first thing that popped into my head was.......I want more info on that sprayer(I finished the video before asking because I was thinking you will prob tell us more). I wish they offered it in a dual boom id be all over that!
Check out thelawnforum.com and you'll see the modification that I made to mine to utilize TeeJet spray tips. It's an easy modification, and makes it much easier to spray. The problem with Chapin is the QC of the pumps is substandard.
@@ColonelK0rn1 luckily I've had no issues with mine......yet. However, are there any alternative pumps that can be used instead of the oem from chapin? the basic components of this sprayer work but if we tweaked them it would make this sprayer a true beast.
I will probably circle around to talking about it after I have spent some more time with it. I do like it though. Makes light work of putting down the products on my size lawn. - Castleberry
You have the same sprayer? I put TeeJet on mine as well and love it. Much better spraying the products out with those nozzles. - Castleberry
I'll message you Paul.
How often should I apply RGS to my newly sodded lawn? 3oz a week to much?
Probably too much! You want the soil to have a chance to cycle what you are giving it. I would probably do every 20 to 25 days at the most. - Castleberry
How long can you wait for a rain to water it in? 24 hours? More?
24 hours is a good window. You could actually run sprinklers right after the app for about 5 to 10 minutes and be fine! - Castleberry
I have a chapin hose end sprayer. What setting should I use 1, 2 or 3 etc!
So basically if you’re using a 4 gallon backpack sprayer it needs to be watered in 10-15 mins? Don’t think you can get to that dilution rate in a backpack sprayer.
if one has a good 5 acres of clean cut grass, to drag a hose around the property is just pure lunacy. Using a backpack spray system is what one has to do with such a large area, or a walk behind push sprayer as shown in vid.
You are absolutely right! However, if you use this method, it is important to water it in.
Nice video 🤟🏻
Thanks bro! I do what I can! - Castleberry
What should I set the Ortho sprayer too ?
3 oz is the best starting point for most of our products. Great questions. Thanks for asking and watching. - Castleberry
Do you apply milo? If so when? For st Aug
Only using N-Ext products! - Castleberry
Do you have to do more than 1 pass with the push sprayer and 10 gal for 4K sq ft is a lot of water. Any way to get by with less water? I have like 23k sq ft of zoysia I’d like to spray fert
So I live on a one acre property I can't use a hose sprayer so how much goes in a 4 gallon backpack sprayer?
Bruh, you got a mower big enough to tow crap right?
Yer gonna need a tow behind sprayer, fimco and chapin mix on exit are best the 15-30 gallon models will work for you. Figure 3-4 hundred bucks. My fimco 30 gallon works great and holds enough for a whole acre. It was like $320 at tractor supply.
Good info! Little bigger apps than I planned. I like it though
Thank you very much sir! This is a pretty basic blue print. Varies for different folks and their situations! Your plan is very solid and it is showing! - Castleberry
N-Ext DIY Lawn indeed
Can you spray in afternoon sun?
Great job on all the break down! I have a 31 gallon sprayer for my zero turn and I have my prodiamine and Triad Select ration down as I have around 68k Sq foot I'm taking care of.
So if it takes me 5 times filling up my pull behind sprayer(31 gallons of water each time equaling a total of 155 gallons of water for the entire 68k Sq foot) how much GreenePunch would I mix in each 31 gallons of water?? This is the worst part of it all figuring the mixture up.
Just subscribed BTW
Edit: so if I fill up 5 times with the 31 gallons, looks like I'm covering 13,600 Sq ft with each tank
Super late to this party, but I'm looking to try a liquid program this year. Any recommendations for something similar to 18-0-1 without any iron in it? I have a lot of concrete to work around and don't feel like giving myself another chore for the inevitable oversprays. Love the vid!
7-0-0 Green effect
following your cool season application rate for 18-0-1 what would the per oz rate be if I was using 9-0-1 green start.Would the oz rate be the same?
What type of sprayer would you use for an 11,500 ft yard?
How do you like your liquid sprreader....where can I get one
So far, I love it! Only used it twice now and have no complaints. I just did a Google search and picked it up from whoever had the best price. It is the Chapin 97900 24v Push Sprayer. - Castleberry

I’m new to this and my maths may all be wrong but can you tell me how much nitrogen is in your concentrate.
You say the fertiliser is a 18:0:1.
So 18% of the mix is nitrogen.
The label says a gallon weighs 10.58 lbs. So 10.58 x 0.18= 1.14 lbs . So there is only 1.14 lbs pure nitrogen in one gallon.
The label says measure 6 ozs of the concentrate and dilute it 7 times and spread over a lawn area of 1000 sq feet.
6 ozs of your concentrate contains 1.14/128 (ounces in a gallon) x6=0.053 lbs.
so we take 0.053 lbs and spread it over 1000 sq of our lawn.
My maths must be crazy so maybe you could show me how much nitrogen is in your product.
You advise 16 ounces of nitrogen / 1000 sq ft which would match the norm of one pound of nitrogen per 1000 sq ft. My maths says there is only a little over one pound nitrogen in one gallon of your product? That would treat only 1,000 sq feet.
Help me here please. Thanks.
The label says 7:1 yet you suggest 20:1 what gives?
7:1 is the minimum. 20:1 is the recommended. Great question and thanks for asking. - Castleberry
I was thinking about alternating Greene punch and bio stim package every two weeks in the growing seasons. Is this a good idea? If not when do I apply bio stim after Greene punch?
Looking for an assist here. I have 15k sq ft of centipede. I downloaded the pdf. The label calls for 16 oz per 1k sq ft with a 7:1 minimum dilution. I have a 21 gal. tow behind sprayer. Do I need 240oz of the product? And if that is correct, how much water? BTW, first time wanting to use liquid fertilizer versus the granule stuff. Thanks in advance.
Great stuff bro! I live in Dallas TX and I’m sure you know it’s gets brutally hot down here. During the summer months and especially during drought stages I normally cut my Bermuda around 3 inches to keep my dark green color. How do you feel about that?
Thanks for watching and dropping a comment/question! Truly appreciated. Bermuda can take a beating and keep on ticking! I personally do not like to let mine get above 2 inches. That way it can hold green for longer and thicken up.
Paul, where did you get your hat? Also, does the Chapin have a drain plug in the bottom of it?
Bought it and the patch on Amazon. It does have a drain plug at the bottom. Thanks for watching. - Castleberry
Applying to my Centipede either this weekend or 'next'. Ha. Pun intended. I'm a little nervous about burning it even with the hose end sprayer. Should it be ok with 6-9oz per 1000? That's a tiny amount of N.
I see what you did there and I like it! And yes, you should be fine with 6 to 9 ounces per 1k. That is all you need! - Castleberry
Will 18-0-1 push a lot of growth?
Very thorough instructions on warm and cool season grasses application. Thanks for the video.
I'm new at this but how does the oz per 1000 square feet work with a hose end sprayer? Does the number on the dial correlate with the ounces?
Great question. No, the dial does not correlate with the number of oz. you put into the hose end sprayer. The hose end pumps out 2 gallons per minute. Rule of thumb is 1 gallon of water will typically cover 1,000 square feet. So, 2 gallons should take you 2,000 square feet. If you set the hose end sprayer to a setting of 3 oz., it will spray out 6 oz. of product in about 1 minute over 1,000 square feet. Hope that all makes sense and helps. - Castleberry
@@NExtDIYLawn Yes the number on the dial of the hose end sprayer does correlate to ounces. That's what those numbers are there for, to tell you how many ounces of product you are putting down per gallon of water coming out of the hose end sprayer. Correct, right?
Any risk of runoff with a heave rain like that right after application?
Nope. Got the app done well enough in advance that runoff was not an issue. Great question and thanks for watching! - Castleberry
Why does the label read 7:1 ?
7:1 is the minimum. 20:1 is the recommended. - Castleberry
N-Ext DIY Lawn could explain why? Is it to get better coverage? Just wondering if the lower dilution rate will perform just as well as the higher dilution if you have a in ground irrigation system? Thank you!
Do you have a link for the sprayer?
It's a Chapin 97900. you should be able to find it thru Grainger.
I see someone already responded. I just did a Google search and got it from whoever had the best price! - Castleberry
Hard to believe that about three years ago these sprayers were selling for only about $150 !!!
Now everyone wants a setup like this! lol - Castleberry
Why can't I get this stuff in California?

It’s great for canibus plants. I used this all last year on my plants and it grewa beautiful fat smelly skunky hairy purple bud that got me ate up for 12 hours. It would be great in cali
Thatch on top of the turf?
I've been putting 12oz per 1k every 4 weeks for my fescue cool season. Too little?
Great question. You could probably afford a little more. I would just pick up the program I laid out here from this point going forward. - Castleberry
You are really confusing everyone. Let’s talk about cool season turf. You say 20 Oz of water to 1 Oz of punch in the video and say use a hose sprayer. On the label it is 7:1 ratio and it says apply to foliage which common sense says use a pump sprayer only. As per your video it comes to about 6 Oz per gallon. Ortho sprays 2 gallons per minute. So set the dial to 3 Oz? On the other hand as per the label ratio it comes to about 18 Oz per gallon of water. At 20 Oz needed per 1000 sq feet water needed will be 1.11 gallon. Either you come up with clear instructions as to why an ortho sprayer is needed (For 1000 sq ft a hose sprayer is not needed IMHO) or even better have the instructions on the bottle for both hose spray and pump spray. Lastly, you have given the ounces for spring, summer etc etc which is putting off everyone. Where are those instructions on the label???
My man on the 12gal sprayer! Question though, I thought that centipede will actually go dormant with too much N. Maybe I heard you wrong on the vid though.
Love that sprayer! You could shock Centipede and Zoysia if you overload it with too much N. In the summertime, you don't want to go at it with more than a third of a pound of N in an application. Even then, I would be careful how much you put down. - Castleberry
I just put down 8oz/1000sqft of 18-0-1 on my Centipede lawn over the weekend using an Ortho sprayer. I'm wondering how it will react to such little 'N', but still getting the humic, kelp and iron.
Note: when you put too many hashtags I can never hit the down arrow to show more details (anything you wrote).
Good to know! Appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching. - Castleberry

I’m on strike until you are able to sell in Washington State again.
We are actively engaged in the label registration process for California, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. Hopefully will have this resolved by the end of this year. Hang in there! - Castleberry
Some of us use the 20 gallon tow behind sprayer so it sounds like we should use a full gallon 128oz of Green Punch for 20 gallons?
If you are putting down 20 ounces of 18-0-1 GreenePunch, you would need 3.1 gallons of water. So, depends on the rate you are going at and square footage you are covering. - Castleberry
@@NExtDIYLawn So I have 21,000 sf of lawn. So at approx 20:1 I figured 20 gallons of water to 128oz of Green Punch....
S. Spooner. It’s also important to calibrate your speed with a boom sprayer. The speed that you travel and release product on lawn will determine how much you will need and the coverage that it will take. Hope that makes sense.
What do I set my ortho hose and sprayer at for using18-0-1 green punch. Tall Fescue (late spring)
Start at a 3 and go up from there if need be! 3 is a pretty good general setting for our products. - Castleberry
What happens if I didn't water in my app of 18-0-1 on tall fescue/bluegrass?
Nothing. If you put it down with a hose end sprayer, you technically already watered it in. - Castleberry
Why do you have to be careful with this product. I keep reading it's not for beginners. Is it because it will burn your yard if you don't water it in good? Thanks
You have to be careful with any fertilizer that has Nitrogen in it because too much of it can burn the lawn. 18-0-1 GreenePunch is such a low input of Nitrogen that it is pretty safe to apply. Just go by the label rates and you will be fine. Great question. Thanks for asking. - Castleberry
I'm sure you're going to want to make a modification to that sprayer before too long. Do I need to bring mine up to the warehouse and show you how I modded mine to accept TeeJet nozzles for the twin-sprayer application? Also, be prepared to have the pressure switch go out on the pump when you have 12 gallons of liquid in the tank. That's happened to me twice. Keep your receipt my man!
If ever you swing up here, please do! I love this sprayer and want it to be around for awhile! - Castleberry
