This is a looooong video and I cover off a lot of material. You may want to break it up into segments, but I hope that it flows with continually engaging conversation and visuals. I believe that there is a tool for everything in lawn care and you will quickly understand the differences and how each of these tools can be used.
As you all know, I am the owner of Greene County Fertilizer Company which brings you the N-ext line of lawn products. This is not a video about how these products are the best for your lawn. The information here applies to all types of liquid and granular fertilizers for grass.
I cover quickly types of lawn application, spraying and spreading, types and sizes of material, greens grade, homogenous, liquid solutions and suspensions.
Side note: I can't tell you how excited I am to get on the lawn this Spring and spray some Air8 and RGS... Watch to the end!

I can't for the life of me figure out why you don't have a ton of subscribers. Tons of excellent information backed by research and brought to you by the Lawn Professor.
All it takes is sharing by the community 😉
For the same reason simple minded music and lyrics are more popular than the complex and intelligent.
I greatly enjoy his videos too.
Agreed bro. Best Lawncare channel out there. He'll go big in no time
John, I just watched your video (2 years late). Recently, I decided to get into lawn and gardening at home. So I started a path of learning and small projects that include maintaining my own lawn (5000 SqFt approx) and start a collection of outdoor and indoor plants (a bit challening in South Florida with the heat, humidity, rain and sometimes wind). In my pursuit of knowledge, I learned quickly that understanding the soil is essential.
There is a lot of information on the internet, but not much information based on actual science. It's not an easy job to weed out the fiction from the science. After reading a lot about soil and fertilizers, I found your video, which is a very simple explanation of scientific facts. Thank you for the video - it helps us to connect the information we gather from all over the place. Thank you, Paulo (South Florida)
Tha k you Paulo!
Good stuff all around here JP! The cloning, the visuals, and the explanation. Love it bro. Lots of uncertainty indeed. The least we can do is make the most of it with family.
Jake The Lawn Kid thanks Jake
And we know who has all the milk!
Dick Kennedy 😂
Ya killin it man!!! You have OFFICIALLY set the bar in these videos. Your edits and creativity are in a class of their own and they are getting better each video. Very informative AND your keeping viewers attention in watching long videos. If people dont know the difference between liquid and granular, they know now. SALUTE 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Polo Fields Lawn Service thank you thank you!!!!
@@Lawncology you've gotta incorporate a John Wick----John Perry skit in one of these videos 😆😆😆
Greetings from Connecticut JP! Just wanted to say that your channel is phenomenal! I’ve leaned so much from your teachings here on RUclips. I’m a lawn aficionado myself and love “dominating” my neighbor as the LCN would say lol. For this upcoming lawn season I decided to “exclusively” use greencounty products. Bought the bio stimulation package, along with an additional 4 pack of various product from Pete at GCI. Looking forward seeing the results 🙂👍🤟
The best piece of advice I ever come across is from Steven Raichlen and his approach to all things BBQ: less is more. He refers to that in terms of seasoning, rubs, sauces when smoking meats. After many years of ignoring my lawn (here in the PNW) and the required lawn care it deserved for a decade, this season I've committed myself to treating it better. So, I'm going to adhere to Steven's rule when fertilizing my lawn-less is more and avoid overkill.
Watched this in living room while wife was there. She kept laughing. Thought she was on FB with friends and I asked why the chuckles. She said, "He's good and very funny" That, sir, is a major statement. But I doubt I'll ever have to fight her over the mower... :) Very well done. Keep it up!
Haha! Thank you!
I’m a soil scientist and I just did a video on this but for the garden 😂🤣 love it!
That’s awesome!!
John your editing skills are noticeably improving! Keep it up man. Lots of great information. This season I plan on doing granular on the front yard with some liquid and all liquid in the back yard to see which I prefer and what works better for my lawns. You definitely answered some questions I had been asking myself. Thanks man!
Pacific Northwest Lawns thanks buddy!!
You've really stepped up your video 'game' this year. Well done Mr. Perry.
Greg Huizen thank you Greg! Having a lot of fun with it
Just received my bio stimulant pack about a week ago. I feel like it’s going to be the game changer for me this year. Thanks for making such great products. 🙏🏽
I’ve always felt that diversity in the overall fertilizer profiles that you apply creates a much better turf! Granular (synthetic & organic) + liquid = success. 🤙🏼
Great info JP, as always. Been in my yard all week, my sister called said everyone’s freaking out and your planting bamboo, a memorial garden and getting your yard right. I said yeah taking advantage of the help, & with that being said also realizing how hard it is to get my boys outside to actually help with some of the lifting (no they good boys) lol. Everyone says you have 3 boys why you do all your own yard work 🤨. Well because I love it & I’m pretty ocd I like it the way I like it.
Great way to break things down. Yes we are all in it together! Thank you 🙏
Whoa! JP bringing the special effects to lawncare videos! Going N-ext level there bro! Thoroughly enjoyed that one!
Thank you so much!
Good talk. Just bought 40 gal of Punch from GCI. Reason, quick green-up, lower rate, no blowing off walks and can put in tank when we do Pre-M, so no extra labor to run spreader over. Cost twice as much, so only doing on our 5 acre or less communities. Doing it with combo of RGS. Did my yard Week ago, looks amazing. All my neighbors yards are still dormant, I have mowed twice already.
Love it!!! Thank you!
I have been following you for almost 1 year now and I am always keen on seeing your next vid. The editing has reached a new level - really great and your vids are so informative and really helpful. Wish i could get my hands on your products here in Germany, but I have found Humic Liquid with 18% potassium humate and liquid organic ferts wihich also do their job. Looking forward to your lawn season...
Thank you Dude. I really appreciate your follow and your application of the teaching material with the products you’ve found. I’m with you, I can’t wait to get to work on the turf again. Snowing here today.
Ha! Sorry to miss this one! I lost track of time blowing the debris out of my lawn, and my mulch back into my beds and tree rings! I had so much fun! Ahhh lawn season!! And I get to see Lawncology now. Super. Can’t wait. Gotta rewind and start the video over. Great intro!
Thank you!!!
Thanks for the info! Really helpful. This will be my first full season caring for the yard, at least in a more informed way. Appreciate everything you share!
Nathan Walker thank you Nathan! Let me know if you need help!
Lawncology Thanks! Biggest learning curve in my yard is the tree coverage and shade created. Not finding too much too from the youtubers overall that addresses these specific issues. So far, had overall good success with TTTF from Seed Superstore but it got planted too late in the Fall and then was laying down under the leaves. I thought I was doing the right thing in throwing down some annual RG to at least help the TTTF have something to help support it growing up this Spring. I’m now thinking that was a mistake b/c the RG is just growing SO fast that I’m not sure the fescue will even have room to grow up through it. Any pointers for these specific issues would be appreciated if you’ve got any hacks up your sleeve.
Thanks for the great edit and easy to understand explanations. Fantastic. 👌😃
The Lawn Guardian thank you buddy
Your editing skills are next level! Thanks again for the knowledge.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I have really started getting into and studying the true lawn care side of this industry. I’ve been studying this for a little while now and trying to soak in and learn as much as possible. I’ve always been passionate about the lawn maintenance and landscaping as I have years of experience in those two fields. Studying the true science of lawn care is still new to me but I find myself becoming very interested and passionate about this field as well as I’m trying to become a true full service lawn care provider to include pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers into my business. Of course in GA where I’m at a Commercial Pesticide license is required as well as a Contractor license. I can aerate, overseed, and put most ferts down legally without a license but the license is required for any pre emergents as well as herbicides and fungicides and pesticides. Is there a direction you can lead me in to help me become more knowledgeable or study this side of the industry? A guide or books I can order? Thank you John!
Pro Lawn and Landscapes experience will be your best friend here. If you really want to become part of it, get a job with a reputable company and get in the field. Maintaining lawns professionally requires quick thinking and the ability to diagnose and treat on the spot. Books will get you institutional knowledge from controlled studies, experience will actually teach you.
I like both, with a larger yard my supply cost is a huge factor as is time and effort to throw er down. I usually granular when I go big #N/M, and liquid for about everything else, including spoon feedings. The solo 421 spreader has changed my life with granular products, no wheels and ultimate maneuverability.
The end of the video was great , this time helps to evaluate our priorities & love those close to us . Peace ✌🏿
Thank you for this, I need to upgrade equipment this season and this will help me prioritize which I hear up for first.
Your Bio-Stim Pack has done wonders for me so I also recently purchased GreenePunch, GreeneStart, GreeNeEfFect and FloraGreene! Cant wait to spray them!!!!
That’s awesome! You’re going to love those!!!
Thanks John...always appreciate the knowledge you share!!!
Mike 1651 thank you mike!
JP has boosted his editing and videos. Lookout Ryan and Allyn. John is going for The best Creator at next years Golden Globe Awards.

Hey John your mind functions so similar to mine. You just dig details of all sorts. I really appreciate that about you. Also just a comment about how you are doing different things with your videos. Your personality is seen so clear in the things you are throwing into the videos. You are painting a picture of yourself and that is like hearing a Led Zeppelin song a Waylon Jennings song a Bob Seager song or maybe the Eagles. When we hear their music we know immediately who it is. Your videos do the very same thing, at least in my mind and I do not know you really at all, other than the videos. You have substance to what you bring and I say RIGHT-ON-JOHN keep being you, you are the only one who can... Peace and Out. Sam--Reidsville NC...
Sam Mccartt wow thanks Sam. That’s really awesome to hear and I really appreciate it. Means a lot ❤️

@@Lawncology Definitely thanks👍👍
I appreciate the info JP! Enjoyed the extras 😆
Lol! Thank you!!
Thank you John for another great video! Stay safe.
Tony Bowman thanks Tony. You too
So much amazing information! I’m not fully on the liquid train just yet. I love my granular and it’s not for a scientific reason. This year I will be using more liquid, mainly for the micronutrients. Great video Mr. Perry!
Dadding All Day fins the tool you can use and never poopoo the other side!! 😁
Lawncology What if the poopoo is Milorganite? 😂
Dadding All Day ugh... so many poop jokes in the fert biz
fantastic educational video
One of the best videos I’ve seen!!!
Thank k you!!!
Nice vid John! I'm a granuliquid guy. They both have a place in my lawn, and I'm kinda hooked on Milorganite thanks to Al.. Stay well my friend!
You too! All good to use all the tools available!
GREAT information! GREAT video..
Last year I went with more liquid feedings...lawn would green up but it didn't last long...this year thinking I'll go more granular...Good healthy feeding March and April, then go light feedings every 3 weeks with liquid micros sprinkled here and there. 👍🏼
Your editing is like Wow! 😎👊
Thanks! 😅
Loving your vids. Nice info every time.
I appreciate that!
Great video and message !
I’m familiar with the lawn bombs , they are placed by my neighbor’s mutt & are well hidden . I call them land mines because I always walk with a limp after & loose a shoe 👟. Anyway good stuff man , you certainly are giving folks some stuff to think about .
Fantastic
Great job JP...very informative
Mike Soucy thank you Mike!
So good I had to watch it twice before commenting
Fescue Freddy you rock
Very well explained. Bravo.
Thank you
You made light of this vid but woah!! 🤯 how bout those roots John Perry! 👍🏻
Thank buddy 😁
You mentioned liquid volume and liquid weight. Maybe a video for when each is to be used...such as when measuring the liquid for application by volume, and when calculating pounds of the ground by weight.
Sure thing. App rates vary by product and it would be fun to show that when showing weight v volume v ounces applied
Well said John N-EXT products got my vote
HA!! I think I’m going to have to watch that again! I was laughing so hard that I missed some of that great content! Lawn Bombs!! Must be some great Unicorn Pee if you were able to grow a second JP! Your secret on how you keep up with everything is out!
😂😂
Interesting method to spread out those lawn bombs! Doesn’t seem to be as good as liquid either!
Nathan Smith haha
Each video has been getting better by leaps and bounds. It’s going to be hard to keep outdoing yourself at this pace. But I’m looking forward to seeing you try to do it
Thank you Kenny! I’m just enjoying the flow right now
So the take away here for me is which ever works best for the applicator is what's best and we can even flex between the too. Granular can be a little more difficult to control or get places we don't want it or not get in other places that we want. Liquid is more even and controllable. Lastly either can be slow or fast release it just requires different ingredients to get the job done...
Fescue Freddy bingo. Different tools for every job and personal preference. No need to have one be better, it’s just “which is better for you?”
We want longer vidz! Great one!😎👊
Thank you George! I'm actually trying to make them 10 minutes but this one ran long
Great point to not dismiss available tools in your box. Question in regards to mixing granular synthetic applications with true organic fertilizer applications. Coming from a point of view that many people don't have the patience to run a 100% organic program. So a mix application would be a so called hybrid. Just curious.
Yes, hybrid or organic based is a common term.
Great content!! Thanks!! 😀
Thank you too!
How was the earthquake for you in park city? Live in West Jordan and that rattled my teeth, hahaha!
Firstly, glad you and your teeth are okay! It was a mild bump here in the hill, my friends a few streets away felt it more than I did. My house foundation is on bedrock on a mountainside. I felt the tiniest of movement more like a heavy wind gust.
I have always believed that the wetter the better. Just ask any Beaver ! 1st here.
Hi,
Very well done video. I was wondering if you have a video talking about moss and acidic soil? What is the best fertilizer for that and how to encourage drainage? I am in Nova Scotia, Canada. Every winter the moss takes over like zombie apocalypse. Not kidding! It would be amazing if you had anything about this subject to watch. Thanks!
Nice video brother!
Liquid is best when applied per directions. Thanks for info
Ginger or Mary Anne? YES PLEASE!!
My personal experience... liquids give you more bang for the buck, granular is easier to spread. It will be interesting to hear your take.
Jon Fokken exactly, I can do lawns way faster spreading fertilizer than spraying it. Then you gotta fill the machine back up in between.
Thanks for the talk
thank you Mike!
Great editing, keep up the good work and thank you for the effort to get this information out... plus it was a good escape from reality, albeit for a few minutes. #granularandliquid4life

Love it
@@Lawncology have you checked out the channel? Advice, tips and/or comments are most certainly welcomed!
Love this vid. I'm a technical guy and you hit the nail right in the head buddy. Well done. Do you have a recommended applicator for a liquid fert?
@John, I totally agree that liquid is king BUT how can we add peptides to the liquid fert mix ?
scott ohms well, I don’t think liquid is king. It’s king for me but that’s just my style and preference. Peptides are liquid and available on amazon and from many pro turf suppliers You just have to apply them regularly for extended results. Some labels say after every irrigation.
I am a little confused about the Nitrogen "pounds on the ground" granular and liquid fertilizer applications. My question is does .18lbs to .24lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sq.ft. of LIQUID fertilizer equal to the same are approximate amount of .75lbs to .84lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sq.ft. of GRANULAR fertilizer? There is a large disparity when doing the math between each method. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Nupe4life86 no, .18 equals .18. .24 equals .24. Weights of N are always the same.10lbs of liquid and 10lbs of granular are the same. If 20% is the content of each, they have the same amount of pounds.
@@LawncologyI was under the assumption that the general "recommended" rate of Nitrogen to be between .50lbs and .75lbs of Nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. per application. Is this true in most cases or am I mistaken? Thank you so much for the quick response.

Thank you so much!
This season, I'm going to try liquid for the first time. I have a feeling I'll get real familiar with the Ortho hose end.
T Crookston it is so much fun! Like painting the lawn.
I maintain over an acre of grass, inherited from the previous owner, which is 50 years worth of spot repairs and overseeding of different blends. I used Scotts granular fert for 2 years and grass looked fantastic. Switched last fall to all liquid, killed it with Humic, RGS, and other micros. Used Green Punch in the fall, spring at 2x dose, then Green Effect during heat. Grass looks like shit, healthy but not dark like the granular fert. Threw a bag of Scotts on a test area and it greened right up in a few days. No irrigation, soil is on the money except for slightly low S and high Mg. Something has to be going on where the liquid fert is evaporating or some chit like that. Must have spent a grand on liquid fert, liquid micros, and all the other RGS stuff. The fucking FEDEX guy hates be because he's dropping off 10 gal every few weeks. Going to scalp it in the fall and overseed with 300lbs of Pete's Cool blue.
I also enjoy performing music and Railfanning🤙🏻
I was reminded of my grandmother who passed away a couple years ago... she loved trains and always stopped to wave. I was all alone on a backroad when I saw it coming and had to stop for her.
Lawncology that a great memory! I am sure your grandma was sitting beside you waving 🥰
Drew Madere indeed 🙂
Good job John!
Thanks Barry!
Truth bruh!
JP, did you feel the earthquake? Just think, last Friday was the 13th with a full moon. Since we’ve seen the stock market go bonkers and they closed everything down because of a virus. An earthquake in Utah! Hope no space rocks are next!
Barry Cavanaugh we felt it alright. My family that lives in salt lake are now camped out at my house for a couple days
Lawncology , glad they’re alright! Hopefully the damage to their homes isn’t to severe!
No large groups!
What next?
Stay safe!
I see you have a clone too! Do our clones know each other?! Lol
You have one!?! Maybe they are clonebook friends
Lawncology Ah yess. Clonebook. Now why didn’t I think of that. I’ll ask mine about it when he gets back from the store 🤣. Mine was government issued! Lol
Thanks Jon...you answered my question. Just one thing...if I am going to use 18-0-1 what is the recommended app rate and frequency for my cool season grass up here in South Dakota as the lawn starts to wake up?
SD Greengo do 15 at greenup and another 15 in 5 weeks
@@Lawncology 15oz/1000? Then 15/1000 every 5 weeks till it freezes in November or do I adjust down as it heats up? Thanks?
SD Greengo adjust as you go through season. Our typical pro rate on 18-0-1 is 7 gallons per acre 2x 6-7weeks apart, then 5 gallons for three apps and then 7 to finish the year. 6 total apps over a 8-9month season.
Grab a napkin Ryan Knorr, you have just been served!
Minou TV ha! Never. That man has amazing skills. I’ll stick to the comedy 😂
Good stuff John. I really LOVE your products and what they do to my 3500 sq ft turf at my home here in Utah. *HOWEVER* the Ortho hose end sprayers have been a trial for me. I went through 5 of them last season on my turf. 2 of them I didn't even get to use one full time without it breaking, leaking, not spraying the solution, and just being more trouble than it was worth. Ortho hose ends make me want to go granular and never look back...Is there a better hose end out there you would recommend? Help!!!
Hunky MrB interestingly enough... there’s a different style from miracle gro I’m about to try. It has no straw and is made for some heavy crap. I’ll let you know!!!
@@Lawncology Thanks, I would be game to try one. Let me know what you think.
Please let us know, I feel the same way and got so aggravated at the end of the season trying to get product sprayed out
Hoosier Blue I’m testing it today!
I USE LIQUID!!!! I also use granular.
How can I tell which John Perry is which?
Dick Kennedy good question....
Hi John, i heard that liquids don't replenish nutrient deficiencies in the soil like granulars, how true is that?
Samuel Asamoah okay so... half and half reality here. There are elements that are hard to get down in large supply like potassium. A high concentration in a liquid will burn turf at rates needed for replenishment. That one is best as a granular or a soluble powder. Phosphorus can go out at high rates liquid, nitrogen, and all minors.
@@Lawncology wow! Thats great

Ha! No, The message was lost, my whole point was, neither is better, it’s all preference and what’s easiest for you!
Oh one other thing. I cut something out of this that is coming in another video. A little history on my granular development and why I’m not in that side of this industry.
