Starting my lawn journey as a new homeowner and I’ve been so overwhelmed with all the chemicals and products. So thank you for simplifying on what d-thatch does !
Used the dethatch on 7-14 in the 90s ,here in Lakeville mn and 97.4 % of KBG stalks are gone, what a awesome product, thanks for the great videos and info
Most underrated N-ext product in my opinion. I include D-thatch in my weekly rotating N-ext applications. Microbial activity = increased earthworm activity = healthy lawn.
We got results in just a few hours! Used the dial n spray , then watered in for 15 minutes. Got 90 degree heat. Next morning had a nice green up. Impressive
Hello, I have not done anything with my lawn for over 30 years. I am just learning about aeration and dethatching. My lawn is a combination of grass and what is described as "moss like". The ground is very hard and compact. Should I aerate it first to at least get some break though circulation in the dirt? Other suggestions welcome as I have zero experience with gardening. Thank you.
Pretty rough on your equipment, especially the measuring cup, just got my soil pack, and tree pack, yesterday, what AWSOME timing for your great videos , even here in Lakeville mn it’s gonna be tropical here, dew points mid 70ish and air temperatures 90ish , your video is perfect timing, I’m in my zone today, spraying is glory, and I thank you and Greene county fertilizer company 👍👍
Yeah...probably rougher than I should be on them...meh. Sounds like the perfect time to put down some D-Thatch. Sprayer down and have fun. Has an awesome smell to it as you apply it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Keep on keeping on up there in MN! - Castleberry
I live in TN and it's going to get in the 70's this week. Is it ok to De-Thatch or should we wait until it gets warmer? Also do you know what kills Goose Grass? I've got a lot of that stuff.
Paul, use all of the next products. South Florida, st. Augustine. Bad thatch problem. How often can I apply and what is the max rate I could apply? Thanks for all you do.
Thanks for the support and using our products. You can use D-Thatch every 3 to 4 weeks at a max rate of 9 ounces per 1,000 square feet. You are most welcome! Thanks for watching and commenting. - Castleberry
Hey Chris! I have StA as well and I’m in East Texas. I just applied 9k sq ft of D to my front yard and I’m hoping this helps. How has yours turned out?
Sprayed some D-Thatch yesterday, forgot to turn sprinklers off today, is that okay? I don't see anything a out watering it in afterwards and hoping this doesn't effect results as it'll be 85+ this entire week. 😕
Hey Paul, I was curious how well D-Thatch will do with Poa Annua once it dies off in the summer heat? I started over last fall with GCI’s TTTF and the mesotrione that I laid down didn’t keep the Poa away with my multiple applications. Hoping that D-Thatch would be a good option to chew through and get rid of the upcoming brown/dead spots in the yard. Thanks!
Another very helpful video! I can’t thank you enough for these. One question on D-Thatch, it sounds like you spray it on during the heat of the day, then water it in later in the afternoon/early evening when temps start to cool off. Did I follow that correctly? Can’t wait to give it a try next year 🤩
Hey Paul great videos. I just started using the Next products I think I pretty much have all of them now. If I spray the D-thatch in the evening knowing I have 85+ temps this coming week and a heat wave this weekend. Will it still be effective?
New Bermuda lawn. Grub worm problems. It is September in North Texas. Should I de grub first and then use the liquid detach? Or should I do the grub treatment now and wait until spring to detach the area that has all the brown dead grass?
I bought the soil activator pack with the AIR-8, D-thatch, RGS,and the Micro greene 7-0-0. Can i mix these all together, and if so how much do i use of each. I have the ortho dial-n-sprayer.
I bet the lawn even verbally said thank you! Awesome to hear. We are still working on getting the shop up and running. Really hope to have that done by beginning of August. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching and commenting. Keep on keeping on. - Castleberry
Question about watering requirements BEFORE applying D-Thatch. We are just coming out of a heat wave in north Alabama (transition zone). Because it's been so hot and dry, with no rain in over a week, would it be better to pre-water my lawn beforehand to ensure it works it's way down thru the soil layer? I'm using an ortho dial sprayer, so am good on watering as I apply and afterwards. Technically, it's really just all dead grass. Using the D-thatch as a last step after complete burndown with glyphosate (poa trivialis and bentgrass issue) and prior to aeration and seeding TTTF this Fall in treed backyard. Thanks for any input, Paul.
Thanks for watching and dropping a comment/question! No need to water before hitting it with D-Thatch. You want D-Thatch to chew on that thatch, sending all of that stuff down into the soil so it can be used later. - Castleberry
So if i have a 6000sq and i use 8ounces per my 1000sq that's 24ounces. My question is if i am using a 4 gallon backpack sprayer how much water do i need?
Hey so I over seeded my lawn about 3 weeks ago and machine dethatched as well as scarified my turf. After two weeks I am seeing germination but there are still areas with dead matted down grass. Can I use d-thatch on newly germinating grass? My grass type is KBG. Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment/question! Very good question. You can still use D-Thatch on the newly germinated grass to help clear up some of that dead matted material.
Hi. Troubleshooting what I thought to be underground water, I am now thinking its thatch. Area is now finally drying up but it's still spongey to walk on and I can press my finger down into the soil easily. Obviously too late in the year to apply. But next Summer I will try this. Question, generally how long until you begin to see results?
I have 9-10000 square feet of lawn to treat. I know it's 6-9 ounces per 1000sqft. My question is how many gallons of water should I be using for that size lawn?
Hey Paul! I’m planning to overseed this September so I wanted to apply D-thatch and Humic Acid anytime soon. But our high temps here in Michigan doesn’t go above 85 anymore especially for the next few weeks, is it still effective to put this down with high temps under 85? I have a lot of thatch and summer stress on the lawn and wanted to get rid of it soon before I aerate and overseed this September. Thanks again, as always, awesome stuffs!
Thanks for dropping a question, its a good one. I think you will still be served well to get one more app in before fall comes into play. It most certainly will not hurt to put one more down! Go for it! Thanks for watching and keep on keeping on! - Castleberry
Just for future use. Dethatching and seeding is always better than aerating and seeding. Dethatching removes all that dead crap that keeps your seeds from making good soil contact; it exposes the soil way better than aerating. Also you dont have those 1-2" holes where the seeds go to die. Seeds need to be about 1/4" below the soil or in good contact with soil at the very least. Aerating and seeding is the easiest of the 2 procedures and why lawn companies push it for quick and easy money. Dethatching requires more work, but the results are far superior. This I say from actual experience.
With ortho hose end sprayer, do I still need to water in? Also if I put enough water in 2 gallon sprayer with n-ext products at the dilution rate,do I still water in for about 10 to 15 minutes? Thanks
Will the dethatcher eat through the peat moss I'm about to put down? Also can I mix dethatcher with any of the other Next products? Thanks for your time. And great video.
To some degree, yes. Those things are full of sugar already, so once they expel their own sugar, D-Thatch can break down whatever is left...if the birds do not get it first. - Castleberry
Not going to hurt it! You can spray them together if you would like and need to. Just make sure to use it within 24 hours of mixing it up. - Castleberry
It is the Chapin 12 gallon 24v battery powered push sprayer. Do a Google search for it to see who has the best price if you are interested. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment/question.
Ok here is a noob question for a first time n-ext product user. I want to spray d-thatch, humic12 and 002, using ortho hose end not mixing them. There shouldn’t be a problem spraying one right after the other should there? 😄
Is this product meant for professional lawn care people? I just started a lawn care company and a few of my yards have thatch problems. Do you need to be licensed to put this product down? I am in Colorado, so I won't be able to use for a few months still.
I'd kill for 47% humidity. 90's here in VA with humidity in the 80's. So I am thinking about this and will spray from a 45-gallon John Deere tow behind sprayer. I have two acres of grass. Does it really work and what restrictions are there on spraying and weather? Obviously high temps are ok.
Supplement along side other ferts of your choice. I go with 18-0-1 GreenePunch, 7-0-0 GreeNe EfFect and 4-0-2 FloraGreene. Great question. Thanks for watching and commenting. - Castleberry
If I didn’t notice any real change to my grass after a week of the application why would that be? Not really any “thatch” to “eat up”? I have TTTF and applied it on a hot day as well... 🤷🏻♂️
Breaking down all that organic matter can take some time. Some folks have noticed and immediate response, while others have noticed weeks after the application. - Castleberry
I have an acre n usually I spray my yard with a 15 gallon tank sprayer pulled behind my mower. It takes me 3 tanks to spray my yard. How much per gallon should I put of air8 or dethatch.
All I have ever done is spray premerge in spring n post in mid July n I fertilize twice a year. I’m wanting to do more n just really don’t know how to go about it. I’m in western tennesse
N-Ext DIY Lawn it won’t be too much Humic acid etc? I know I’ve read that applications of Humic and aerate should ideally be spread out, no need for that with d-thatch?
@@andrewsanders1711 Yeah i watched the video Andrew and he said later in the day he needed to water deeply as the grass was burning up. D-Thatch heats up the ground along with dropping in enzymes to chew up the thatch. My question was related to will my grass do the same in extreme heat and strong sunshine. Just because micro biology and enzymes go crazy over heat doesn't mean you necessarily need to apply in direct sunlight. pete detraglia, I wondered the same thing. In my mind anything wet sitting on good grass blades and “baking” in the sun makes you think/feel your grass is getting beat up. 😲
Half way with water first, D-thatch concentrate after, then 0-0-2 MicroGreene and top if off with more water. If you have enough water in there, you should be ok. Just cannot mix those concentrates together. - Castleberry
There isn't a "best". The summer heat activates it, but I like to spray first thing in the morning so it doesn't dry on the grass blades. Then I let it sit on the soil, sometimes not watering it in at all.
It can, however the biggest difference between the two is that D-Thatch turns the thatch into digestible material for the soil microbes, while mechanical thatch removal removes it all together. Just make sure to use D-Thatch in higher air temperatures for it to be most effective.
Hey Paul, excellent videos. Super informative and user-friendly. When using D-Thatch, do you recommend hose-end sprayer or hand can/backpack sprayer? I have both but you mentioned letting the product sit for a little while before watering in... Just wondering what your thoughts were on the subject. Thanks for all you do and keep on keepin' on!
Thank you very much. Glad you are finding them helpful and enjoyable. I personal like letting D-Thatch sit for awhile before it gets watered in. I like the thought of it sitting and chewing on the thatch for a bit in the heat. It will not matter, however, if it gets more water to it with a hose end sprayer. Ether way is fine! - Castleberry

Half way with water first, D-thatch concentrate after, then 0-0-2 MicroGreene and top if off with more water. If you have enough water in there, you should be ok. Just cannot mix those concentrates together. - Castleberry
Before Dethatch came to market, it was sand that caused heat (via friction) and milo (thx LCN) what about Sand and Dethatch?
All you need is D-Thatch. No need to put sand down with it. Thanks for watching and commenting. - Castleberry
Is it available for purchase in a 1 gallon container????
What is the best time of day to apply D-Thatch?
There isn't a "best". The summer heat activates it, but I like to spray first thing in the morning so it doesn't dry on the grass blades. Then I let it sit on the soil, sometimes not watering it in at all.
Here a question, dog urine? What a good combination that may help repair spots?
Drew feel your pain with those spots. I clean up the dead grass first, flush with water, and now I am going to add morganite and lime to the spots.
Hit those spots with 6 oz of Humic12 in a gallon of water. Paint them black with that mix! - Castleberry
Gypsum works.
Good information! It’s only 80 here but I’m using it with Air 8!
Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment. Glad you found the information helpful. Sounds like you have a game plan!
Can this be used as an alternative to detaching mechanically?
It can, however the biggest difference between the two is that D-Thatch turns the thatch into digestible material for the soil microbes, while mechanical thatch removal removes it all together. Just make sure to use D-Thatch in higher air temperatures for it to be most effective.
Why backpack over hose end for medium size yards?
Curious about this as well.
Just easier than dragging a hose.. I would think
That is a general statement not really related to this product. Backpack because it is easier than dragging a hose around the yard. - Castleberry

what do you set ortho dial in sprayer at to apply DTHATCH?
I use 3 and 4 for my settings at a comfortable pace.
As a begjnner start out low like 1.5 bc it goes fast
I start with a 3 for all products. If I go higher, I walk faster. Great question. - Castleberry
Heat sucks.... preach.
But I'm first to get hot 🔥
Sucks the life right out of you! Thanks for watching. - Castleberry
As always, thank you for the information.
You are most welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting. - Castleberry
What type of grass is that?
Great question. It's Bermuda Grass.

What do the microbes chew when the thatch is all gone....🤔
Are you sure it is all gone? I have found that there is always a little bit of thatch somewhere. - Castleberry
They Chew the grass that you mulch every time you mow
Why can't we get these products in Idaho?
Local regulations will not allow for us to ship there, Oregon, Washington or California. We are actively engaged in this and trying to have that resolved very soon!

Can I mix aer8 and dethatch in a sprayer ?

Want to use D-thatch but temps in 80’s does it have to be in 90’s?
You can apply in the 80's, mid-upper 80's is best, but it will still work... just slower.
Excellent info!
Thank you sir! Glad you enjoyed it. Keep on keeping on. - Castleberry
