Male Lions need to be able and capable of hunting from a young age, from around 3 years old they go into a nomadic phase where they need to fend for themselves as they get ousted from their pride, so just on this they have to hunt
once they become dominant males they are often away from the pride.patrolling and defending their territory thus also forcing them to hunt for themselves
