You are more of a Toyota Supra guy.
You put too much thought on it … difficult to ever be contented. I have a 992 CS, absolutely lovely car, I enjoy every minute of the driving. The problem is so much Instagram, RUclips and influencers analyzing every single bit of everything to get views. We are unsatisfied kids
I expected reason 1 to be because it’s LHD… but it didn’t get mentioned. Then near the end a long shot of the car showed me the backwards plate… penny dropped. …Why tf did you do that??
Actually, Einstein never ever said that....AND, at best, it may be only a single interpretation of what constitutes aspects of insane behaviour. Repetition with predictable outcomes is normal human behaviour and required for evolution of all species.....this Porsche dude just suffers from self-doubt, opportunism and living like a two-penny millionaire.
There’s something here about a journey he’s going on more than the targa. All four reasons were in plain sight suggesting a lack of clarity in thinking and a search for something i think that is beyond metal
Yeah I agree. Since he had owned a number of Porsches, I find it impossible he didn't know exactly what he was getting into. Literally reviews Porsches, and there are plenty of other online reviewers/forum boards to know what your getting into. I have a Boxster and I totally as in totally knew what I was getting into. Maybe he paid to high, past few years market has been really high, and/or financed a higher rate, finally caught up financially. Although I give anyone kudo's when they figure that out, most people don't or can't admit it. Doesn't like the angle on Instagram and what people would think? Again, aren't there like a zillion available vids/pictures of this car? Didn't notice it until he started posting his own pix...huh? I think you sold it cos you couldnt fia roof box on it. No point in having a porsche unless you can ruin the looks of it with dodgy wheels and a roof box?
I suspect you get bored easily. The only real criticism you seem to have is the roof noise - the other observations are very mood-based and/or state-of-mind calls. Nothing wrong with that of course - it's your money, your mind, and I'm grateful you continue to share your thoughts. To be honest I'm very similar with "toys" - there's always something different and maybe better.
Sell for a profit and be honest about it. Center lock wheels? A real world nightmare. The other comments all seem like BS to justify the sell for profit IMHO
Agree with you on your main points, but totally disagree on your centre lock assessment. I have a 991.1 GTS and the CL wheels are what clearly separates it from a fully optioned 991S or 4S; lower unsprung weight is a performance differentiator too.
Having just watched this latest video I have to say.. quote I'm not a wealthy man is quite comical. No doubt you are a hard working genuine guy who has his own successful business and has done very well (and very well done to you satch). But in the short time I have watched your videos over the past 3 to 4 years I have seen a boxster 2 caymans the yellow 997 the black Cayenne and as you state 3 991s. I was fortunate enough to buy my 981 via an inheritance (I would consider myself) to be lucky. That has to be one of the daftest comments I have heard in a long time!!
The key, my friend, is financing. Financing geniuses use the zero interest policy to show off, while peasants like you and me suffer the consequences of inflation
Very true any smart hard working person man or woman can get a Porsche on finance. Loads around me I’ve also owned 5 Porsches. Careful they are addictive
Why did I spent time watching this? I thought it would give me some insights but other than roof noise (I give you some merits) but mostly someone with mon issue and extreme nitpicking. My word of advice to you - don't get married
As the owner of a 991.1 Targa 4S, perhaps I’m biased, but these cars don’t have a “bad angle”. Further, the roof is almost completely silent, my paint matched Sport Techno wheels are stunning, and IMO, the open air experience is exhilarating. The Targa top engineering is truly a work of art. The insane price increases of 991.1 Targas over the past six months are hard not to take advantage of, but I can’t imagine finding another Porsche that would suit me better. To each his own, but I don’t find your arguments compelling in anyway. I find it hard to believe that your reasons for selling aren’t just fodder to validate capitalizing on the increased value of your car.
I agree with all of that. The targa looks amazing from every angle. And he can’t find a wheel that looks good on the car?? Well, he put the ugliest set on the car possible. But different strokes for different folks I guess.
That's the beauty of Porsche. Understated performance and looks. Who cares if it's invisible to bystanders? It's all about the Driving Experience. It's not a "Look at me," car.
Sounds like an not well thought through impulse buy. The roof creaking Porsche would address that. But angles, wheels, and I’m 40 and don’t want me head exposed. Your right are a bit daft.
Maybe you need to sell all your Porsches and find out why you need shiny objects to fill the gap in your life? Harsh, perhaps, but seems like there's a pattern going on that you might want to look at.
Putting the car aside, you said you're not a rich man but your budget of around £110k suggests otherwise. I'm ok financially, with a budget of about half that but fortunately enough to secure a cracking 997.2 S. Good luck with your search, hopefully a Porsche!
Wow really? :) So you are really not a rich guy with a 60000-pound sports car budget, but he is rich with a 120000-pound budget???? I have a $170000 budget for my next 911 992 and I am nowhere near rich. Any regular person in Africa would think all 3 of us are rich, BUT we are most likely just car crazy people who are lucky enough to have enough pocket money to enjoy our hobby. Next year I most likely will have to start to build a house, so I won't be able to afford a used Prius. Bill Gates is rich, someone who can afford a $100000-$200000 car, unfortunately, does not count as rich anymore. Our world changed a lot, how people look at other people with expensive cars, have not. :) :)
I sold my 997.1 C2S convertible about 4 years ago and bought a 997.1 C2 last week, I totally agree with the lines and the looks of the coupe especially from the rear end. Another thing is that cocooned feeling, always felt vulnerable in the soft top and of course the convertible suffers from a lot of body roll which the coupe doesn't, it would be interesting to know if the Targa is as solid as a coupe. I drove a 991 C2S before I bought the 997.1, I didn't like it at all it felt bland and lacked engagement, it wasn't an exciting car to drive not in the least bit compared to the 997 which always put a smile on my face.
Sounds like lame excuses. The car market is going to shit and you don’t want to get caught holding the bag. It’s the last time people will get premium for their cars for a while.
I ve been following you for a good while.. This video was really annoying with the image going reversed and back, never noticed it on any other of your videos... I sympathise with your position with the targa and get it totally. Its only when you live with a car that you find out the things that disappoint. Been lucky, had a 986 Boxster, 987 gen 2 cayman and a 997 911, loved them all, recently had an F type that was better than all 3. Currently in an Audi TT and enjoying it more than all the others... why??? , less powerful, has to be driven hard to be fun, but you don't reach licence losing speeds in seconds, so its more usable on our crowded little island. Well built and handles like its on rail. Good luck with your search.. air cooled or 996 GT3 ???
I'm curious how you made out financially, in these times of crazy used car prices. Did you get what you paid, or maybe more? I'm fully with you with the coupe. Cabrios or Targas just don't do it for me. Living on the west coast of Canada, we also have 6 months of rain, so a solid roof is nice. The other times are nice and sunny, but then it would be too hot with no roof. I do absolutely love my 991.1 though. Good luck with whatever strikes your fancy and comes your way next!
I have a 2019 Targa GTS. I have put 16k on her and there isn't a rattle or noise anywhere. Top up or down. The car is a little noisy because of the wind with the top down over 60 mph. Having said that, I have owned several cabriolets and they are all noisy at speed.
The deal breaker for me with the Targa is you must be at a stop to choose it open the riff. If her the Cabrio.. For that open top feel The Cabrio is said to be quiet with three top closed
My Boxster S had a completely silent roof… until it blew up. Porsche designs the roofs to explode exactly two weeks after the warranty expires. Thankfully, they only charge $8000 to repair the roof mechanism and reset the explosion countdown timer.
Awesome opinions. I just walked from buying a 2014 Targa. I was concerned about the cabin noise not from the mechanical roof but from the wind boucing in the cockpit with the roof open. The video was good because I don't feel bad for my reasons as you spoke of yours. I'm a 997.2 previous owner for 10 yrs. Sold it last year and never loved the color ruby red. Love the cabriolet and will start looking for a 911 4S cabriolet again in the color I like (blue) with tan or grey interior. But thanks again for honest take on selling your car after only 4 months.
I think the main problem is you set out to buy a 991 GT3 and then settled for a targa, albeit the GTS is a good car but in targa form it’s a hell of a stretch from a GT3
I highly recommend the Porsche 997.2 C2S. It is much smaller than the 991 or later Porsches, and the value keeps going up. It is quite common to get enthused by a car and purchase it before our tastes have matured and finalized.
Targa is beautiful from any angle! This is a mechanical beast and you are going to hear rattles, if not at the time of purchase, then some time after. One of the main reasons to buy a Targa is for the wrap around visibility out the back, eliminating blind spots. Unfortunately, the view through the curved glass is distorted. The rear glass also sits too high as can be seen in the video. Another issue is the speedometer sitting a bit too low, forcing the driver to look down away from the road. There is no option for a Heads Up Display which Porsche cars desperately need. Only the Taycon has that option. Still, there is nothing like a Porsche!
T H A N K Y O U !!! becouse i was almost to buy targa so close ....but i was afraid about NOISES from the Top ,so its so real and true that this mechanic construction do not STAY Solid and dont move but scratch, bump etc. THANK YOU AGAIN I am The Man Who Need SILENCE when i need now im sure there is still Lot of work to do for PORSCHE even those times
I watched quite a few of Al's videos and I usually think he has no idea what he is talking about. I find it hard to believe he couldn't find wheels that he is happy with. Also on the many videos and written reviews on the 991.1 Targa 4S I have not seen one complaint about rattles in the Targa top making noises. I have owned a 72 Targa and now I have a 991.1 C2. The car is fantastic and unless you are a complete nit picker you will love the car.
Best wheels are the ones you have because of the comfort that such a large wheel spoke provides. Huge difference and chose the same rims for my Audi Allroad which has air shocks! Best of luck matching the right Porsche going forward! 😎👌
The first 911 Targa in 1965 was a design compromise. It was developed to meet new (or at least anticipated) US safety requirements. I don't remember anybody being crazy about the design. Then in 1983 (changed safety laws?) Porsche replaced the Targa with the 911 Convertible. In my opinion the reintroduction of the Targa in 2014 was a mere marketing ploy: it added a third (retro) body style to the 911 line up. Crash worthiness is equal to that of the Convertible (as of 1997), top down wind buffeting is supposedly more unpleasant. For me the decision would always only be that between coupe or convertible.
IF, I was a serial P flipper..past couple years wd b ice cream in the desert..main gripe is something like can’t love the car unless you love the tires..it will be interesting to see if he runs diff sets on next ride perfecting the ideal dream ride My 2023 Targa order will be lock out next week for changes. Went w T 4S..and have thought about changing to GTS past 2 months…wife goes cranky when kids roll down her Cayman back windows..so my only concern is..how loud will I have to blast my tunes when blasting my daily drive steep s-curves. ❤
Sad to see that beauty go but I can appreciate all your reasons. The noisy roof would be my main reason but I'd have to try to fix it before I'd let it pass from my hands. You're the kind of guy that likes to use your cars as daily drivers so be very considered when you try the sport suspension of the high end GT line cars. My dream car had been the 911R for some time.
Nice to see you driving on the right side of the road :). I get how you are feeling. You probably will never settle on one and there is nothing wrong with that, it's the experience along the way that matters. Keep buying, enjoying, and selling. I'm on number eleven and all have been fantastic.
I have a 991 coupe, and I agree the lines on the coupe are the best, but I love the Targa too, but a little hesitant now that you mentioned the rattles with the roof, nice car I hope you change your mind and keep it...
You know what they say... the difference between convertibles and roadsters is that convertibles are sometimes driven top down, and roadsters sometimes top up. Now targa drivers are even weirder than convertible drivers ;)
Very interesting. I have thought a lot about the Carrera vs Targa debate and I think you make a lot of sense. The colder weather is a big reason. I was not aware of the noise with the top up. Give the coupe a try.
I have a 991.2 GT3 currently and have been thinking about a new targa GTS new but just not sure if the handling and weight so your video is really useful
the 991.1 4GTS is the way to go, especially if your daily driver for few cars handle better in the rain at hwy speeds, exception an old 928 or 2004-06 Pontiac GTO.
Cracking video. Good luck in your search. I’m with you on the open air feel. I test drive a couple of convertibles, Boxster and F type and just couldn’t get away with it so plumped again for the Cayman (981 GTS) and haven’t looked back. I see Cridfords have a Targa on sale, very similar to yours; not sure if that’s just a coincidence 🤔
Yeah, convertibles, and t-tops are feminine. Wheels make a car, agree. I'd get rid of all your cars and get a proper GT3/2/turbo, 6 spd manual, 997 or 996? The RS is not needed. Be a man ;)
You have to be a real convertible fan and accept the noise. All convertibles produce noise when the roof is closed. It does not matter which brand it is, it’s simply the moving parts of the roof that make the noise
I want a Targa 4GTS but not in that color and definitely not those bland simple rims. Don't blame you if you wanna get rid of it. It's prolly not gettin you any action either. For me I actually enjoy the cold weather with the top down, love the cold breeze hitting my face, but the heater in full blast blowing my body.
Can I make a suggestion that you don’t buy any car for a while as it sounds like you have other issues to sort out first ….

Hi PJ. I have ordered a 911 4 Targa GTS but don’t expect an allocation until next year. I appreciate your comments.
Can you tell me why the 991.1 prices have gone crazy? Is it just supply and demand and if so will the supply chain get fixed? Crazy times.

I sold my 2020 992 S got all my money back despite putting 6000 miles on it and then Porsche Bolton added £16 000 on top for the resale price
About to go into your forties, eh fifties maybe pal.
You always seem happier in slightly older cars, how about going for a 996 GT3 ? More of an analogue feel and definitely ageing well looks wise.
997 gt3 would probably be a good test drive to take since you like your yellow 997 so much
I have a 2019 Targa GTS.
For that open top feel
The Cabrio is said to be quiet with three top closed
My Boxster S had a completely silent roof… until it blew up. Porsche designs the roofs to explode exactly two weeks after the warranty expires. Thankfully, they only charge $8000 to repair the roof mechanism and reset the explosion countdown timer.
Analysis paralysis
That Targa is gorgeous and a keeper! It brings the perfect Porsche experience for me! Go figure??
Curious why almost all the video was reversed to make it look like you’re in a LHD car.
Totally correct I suspect. I have a 991.1 GT3 and I have had a 991.1 Targa…. Chalk and cheese.
@@paul_sykes Nice Garage ;) Best of both worlds! :)
Much prefer chrome rims.
How much £££ did you lose in 4 months ?
MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE LOSS OF ALL CREDIBILITY!!
You sold it coz it’s left hand drive 😂
Appreciate your honesty.
I was in the edge of buying one then I found out it’s an 18 month to two year wait list.
British city and driving on the right hand side of the Road ????
IF, I was a serial P flipper..past couple years wd b ice cream in the desert..main gripe is something like can’t love the car unless you love the tires..it will be interesting to see if he runs diff sets on next ride perfecting the ideal dream ride
My 2023 Targa order will be lock out next week for changes.
Is the video reversed? Its left hand drive, but I know it isnt?
Cracking video. Good luck in your search. I’m with you on the open air feel. I test drive a couple of convertibles, Boxster and F type and just couldn’t get away with it so plumped again for the Cayman (981 GTS) and haven’t looked back. I see Cridfords have a Targa on sale, very similar to yours; not sure if that’s just a coincidence 🤔
Why is he driving a LHD car in the UK? Or has the camera he's using reversed the images?
Yeah, convertibles, and t-tops are feminine.
Wheels make a car, agree.
I'd get rid of all your cars and get a proper GT3/2/turbo, 6 spd manual, 997 or 996? The RS is not needed.
Be a man ;)
Satch said, “it’s not you, it’s me!” Well put buddy. There’s a hundred different cars I’d love to experience but wouldn’t fit in with my use of a car.
You have to be a real convertible fan and accept the noise. All convertibles produce noise when the roof is closed. It does not matter which brand it is, it’s simply the moving parts of the roof that make the noise
As a former Elise owner that moved to an Exige I completely understand #1. GT4 would be my choice.
Why not try a Toyota Camry? From 991 Targa 4s owner
I'd prefer to sell my soul to the devil than to sell this particular car...
