  • Last week, I offered you a mission to make all the pieces of the Xanadu sweater and then join me later when I show you how to seam a sweater and how to sew on ribbing to the body of the sweater.
By this point in the Xanadu sweater making process you have made all 5 parts of the sweater, Front, Back, 2 Sleeves and the Ribbing. It is time to begin seaming!
In the Marly Bird RUclips video for the Xanadu sweater ( • Xanadu Crochet Pullover ) I approached the tutorial differently in that I don't actually crochet along with you.
In the Marly Bird RUclips video for the Seaming of the sweater I show you how to do it!
I walk you through how to prepare the pieces before you seam them.
I offer suggestions to help you keep the pieces lined up for a better seam.
I show you the slip stitch join and the mattress stitch.
Now, you are ready to seam your sweater together.

Marly, even 8 years after you posted this, yours is the only tutorial on how to seam a sweater together. I could probably word my search many different ways and possibly find more but why do that. Yours would be the best so thank you!

Hi...Instead of the clips you are using , I use the tiny Butterfly Claws/Clips that you can find in the Hair Accessory Section of most stores. I do know CVS sells them. They look just like the ones you are using here, except they have three claws instead of one. You can also buy in bulk from eBay and Etsy. That’s where I get mine. I still use them in my hair too.

      HI Jennifer,
Yes, I have used those as well. However, I have found that sometimes the bulk of the three prongs makes my fabric wonky so I prefer the one prong that can fit easily through the stitches. :-)
      Merry Christmas

I crochet a perfect garment, I fudge it up by seaming too tight☹could be because the designer instructed me to sc the seam? Well, thank you I will attempt this again today.

I'd say those mini clips, or something similar, are indeed mandatory prior to setting in the sleeves. They are not optional if you want a good result with minimal grief. Anyway, that's a real nice sweater!
Also, to illustrate your technique it might have been helpful to use a highly contrasting yarn to seam with, such as white or light gray. The pink provides no contrast and it is not that easy to see the stitches.

Hi there, yes. I agree. This was one of the first videos I did on RUclips. I've learned since then.

+zille huma It is a single crochet/double crochet combination. There is another video on this channel showing how to make the sweater.

when measuring the gauge---does the double crochet and single crochet count as one stitch? I have never figure out how to gauge in crochet---just in knitting

    • @MarlyBird

+Robin Lipton Yes. I like to block before seaming all the time.
