Who are you Marly Bird? A crochet angel? 😇 I was sold on ribbing idea but couldn't work it due to my stitches being too tight. I followed your tip to keep the hook parallel tp the chains and Whola!!! 💕🍫
This is the best skip stitch videos ever... I’ve watched 7 of them but still didn’t get it until i found this one.. I’m a noob so i found this extremely awesome to learn new stitching skills... 🖤tQ🖤 so muchhhh 😍😍😍😍
Oh, my! What a wonderful job explaining how to create this stitch. I have been trying to learn how to do this for a long time. Within a matters of minutes after watching you, I have made the most beautiful ribbing that I have ever made. I am so glad that I found your video. Thank you.
Excellent! I'm a beginner at crochet and I find your explanations very clear. The focus of the camera is perfect and you're going at the perfect speed. Thank you so much!
I'm now on my 4th day working BLO slip stitches using a 5mm hook and #4 Simply Soft Heather yarn. So far I have a piece of fabric that is 2" wide x 12" long (making a neck for a pullover sweater), It LOOKS great - just like knitting - but talk about WORK! No matter how loose I hold the tension, the stitches are tight... and to make matters worse, this yarn SPLITS and FELTS easily. I just wanted to chime in with this bit of "heads up" because while Marly's using a huge hook and bulky yarn to demonstrate, in the "real world" of smaller hook & thinner yarn, it's a lot tougher slog.
People who learn in a different way have to search for a teacher/method that appeals to them. What is sad is that they use the Do Not Like instead of just leaving and going elsewhere until they find what *they* need. I know - from personal experience.
thank you for this video- ive been STRUGGLING for a long time trying to understand this stitch and this video gave me the confidence necessary- i understood the process and made my first ribbed beanie (well just the band so far but i know how to make a beanie) THANK YOU A MILLION times over
Thank you, triple thank you. I have never done this stitch row after row and was working with thread. What a disaster! Decided to utube my dilemma and Voila! you were there with easy solutions and very clear direction. Now I can go forward and will definitely come back to check out your other videos!
I have actually managed to make a single crochet version of this slip stitch ribbing. It does not look like knitting, but it sure stretches good. Works up faster too. Thank you Marly Bird for being a super awesome and inspiring crocheter.
Thank you so much for this amazing video! I am an absolute beginner and I have bene trying to understand this technique but none of the other videos were as clear as this, especially that advice on keeping the hook parallel. I am so thankful for this! Amazing!
I love your videos! They're super easy to follow and top quality. AND thank you for not starting out by showing us how to make a slip knot 🙄 I figure if someone is ready to do a slip stitch ribbing, they've moved out of the beginner phase of crochet and already know how to make a slip knot! It's hard to believe how many tutorials I've watched for advanced stitches/crochet techniques and they actually start off by showing how to make a slip knot for the crochet hook. UGH!
LOL ... I've spent the last three days searching all around my county and on the internet for an item that I know I already have, but it is napping with the lost socks. It is a 9" circular needle for knitting a ribbed cuff. Frustration. Hard to find at all and the prices they're asking are ridiculous, so I'd resigned myself to try again with the way mother did it with four double ended knitting needles (I don't like knitting but mom was a whizkid with it and did argyle socks for my dad while he served in WWII). He wore some of those until his death in 1999. Standing at my sink I thought to myself (thank you God, by the way) .... hasn't anyone come up with a stitch in crochet that does this? New education and I thank you so much. You saved a lot of time and money .... and I love the stitch and will be working it into my own creations "soonly". Will that little circular needle jump out at me from somewhere tomorrow?
Perfect explanation, I am about to start a child's skirt pattern and just couldn't visualise how the waistband was created until I say your video, thank you so much!
Ohhhhh Yay! I watched the video to learn how to use the slip stitch for ribbing and then bonus on using the stitch markers!!!! Thank you - I learned 2 new techniques 😊
You are a genius! I was attempting a beanie with slip stitch ribbing and it was getting tighter as I was progressing. Your advice on using the parallel method helped! Thank you!
Thank you so so much for this video. You don't make me pay for the pattern and your very detailed with your instructions which is the biggest help for me. Also the pace is perfect. Thank you& God bless you! Planning on using this stitch for a waistband for pants. I'm hoping it will work. Thank you again.
What "amuses" me on instructional videos, including excellent ones such as yours, is that finding the stitch into which you want to insert the hook is always CRYSTAL CLEAR - you couldn't miss it if you were blind, but when I follow along with my yarn and hook, it's like my vision has suddenly gone way out of focus. Tell me... where do you buy yarn like the magic yarn you demonstrators use - the kind where the stitches always remain clearly shaped and ready for insertion?
Hi there! I’m not sure where to but the exact kind of yarn that you are asking for, but if you are using thicker yarn, like in the video, the stitches will obviously be bigger and therefore easier to see (but remember to use the correct hook size, too). I also find that cotton yarn, compared to wool and some acrylic yarns, will leave more prevalent stitches, as it is sturdier. If you are crocheting with dark colors that can also make it harder to see your work clearly, so if you’re having a hard time, I would advise you to use pastel colors or similar. Hope this helps!
Rae0521, oh yes, even with this chunky yarn and big stitches, I cannot tell where she is inserting the stitch marker exactly. She explains everything very well but that. She just inserts the marker, like we know exactly where to do. Maybe need her magic yarn and then I cd automatically find the spot too. If you find such yarn for sale let me know.
Thank you very match ! I was looking for this pattern for so long! Who looks like it is made with needls and it is finally this pattern made with the needlloom!!
I know it's a late comment, but thank you - putting the stitch marker in the last stitch of each row is genius! I've been accidentally decreasing on my crochet ribbing, and it's such a pain, so, thank you! /runs off to get stitch markers/
This was a great video tutorial. I've always wondered how to make the piece I was working on appear to have been knitted. Can you make other items using the slip stitch ribbing technique?
Great tutorial but I would like to see a video of after the ribbing is done and how to continue from there. ex. going on to complete a hat, what stitch rows to crochet into, etc.
For a hat, just turn ribbibg to top right hand corner and start making double crochets in each stitch until you get to the end. (Or double your choice of stitch). May only need to do one st. in each, depending how wide you need your project!
Hi and Thanks for this tutorial! I would also suggest to go up 2 needle sizes when crocheting this rib-pattern. That will prevent from getting the tension too tight also. Best regards!
This worked great for me with synthetics and solved some problems for projects. But when I tried it with cotton yarn, it left a gap between rows looking more like a K1 P2 and not as much memory. Still usable but I wanted to let you know. I don't use cotton that much anyway. Haven't tried it on wools yet as am saving them for knitting projects.
I’m so close to finishing Harry’s cardigan IM SO EXCITED
I'm excited for you OMG!!
I’m doing the same thing! How did it turn out?
@@wynn6240 so well!! i’m finishing the bottom ribbing right now and then i just need the blue button band and i’m done :D

Excellent! I'm a beginner at crochet and I find your explanations very clear. The focus of the camera is perfect and you're going at the perfect speed. Thank you so much!

Great tutorial but I would like to see a video of after the ribbing is done and how to continue from there. ex. going on to complete a hat, what stitch rows to crochet into, etc.
I would like to know as well! Having a difficult time! Thank you:)
Me too.
For a hat, just turn ribbibg to top right hand corner and start making double crochets in each stitch until you get to the end. (Or double your choice of stitch). May only need to do one st. in each, depending how wide you need your project!
Excellent video, thank you!
