if the pinhole you're making is to relieve pressure, wouldn't the same thing be achieved by closing the machine on the cup, re-opening, then closing a second time? The first closure would relieve any built up pressure. Seems also plausible the pinhole is acting as a relief-valve if the pressure in the K-cup builds too much. Also, the K-cups will be ballooned with pressure if the ambient pressure is higher than wherever they were packaged, so for those using K-cups at high elevation, say Denver, all K-cups are likely bloated with air this way, but someone in Miami may never see the issue.
Green Mountain Coffee is the biggest offender of this. I just got a 50 pack for Christmas and was immediately dis heartened because I knew they would all explode. I tried 5 or 6 before I googled it and found this video. All of them exploded. THis pin trick worked on the first one.
Thank you, This is like the 5th and 6th time making coffee, I'm glad I used the Cappuccino and no grinds, luckily I was across the room when it exploded. Twice it did it... now I know why. I just bought a Chefman RJ14-SKG from the resale shop for $8.00 not bad huh... you saved it from going in the trash. Thank you so very much again.
I know this an old video, but I’m so grateful that I found it! 😊 The only k cup that was exploding on me was the Maude Chai Tea. It would also add grounds to my cup. I really was about to just toss all the boxes of it out!
Subscribed, liked, Thanked the Lord Jesus in Heaven. It worked! I wasted 4 cups this morning from a 12 pack of pods . I never had that prob with the brand, it was just a different flavor. i guess that was all it took. Exploded each of them and was so confused when i did a test with water and nothing happened. I dont have a keurig. I have an off-brand toastermaster, but this trick still worked. Thank you for sharing this tip, dude! :D made my day
I have this problem with Crazy Cups only. I've tried poking the center hole first, cut out much of the bottom, cleaned needle with the orange doohickey, etc. the only thing that really works is to put the coffee in a refillable cup.Out of desperation I tried this. I still got the water under pressure message and grounds all over. I'm glad it works for some people.
I poke the pin hole off to the side. That way there's an entrance hole and an exit hole. I still haven't had a problem since this video, so that must be what solved the issue for me at least. It might vary with other machines/cups.
I tried the paperclip cleaning holes top and bottom didn't work . Tried this and works it might not be 100% a tiny bit of grounds might spit out ,but it works ..simple fix thx ...
I always punctured mine like that and then suddenly my machine began exploding the kcups. What I discovered was that (and I had the machine for 7 years and never did this before), was that when I put the kcup in, I had to now make sure it was fully seated and punctured before closing the lid to puncture the top, or it was exploding.
I just tried this and it didn't explode! However, I'm still getting a much bigger hole punched on the top of the KCup which is leaking grounds in my coffee. I've read that it has to do with the lid closing at an odd angle and causing the top piercing needle to drag thru the foil. So, at least one problem solved. I'm about ready to throw it away.
Donna B okay this is EXACTLY what ours has been doing for at least two months. We probably get 12 good cups of coffee out of 20 and that’s at best! This past week though, it doesn’t want to even make one good cup! Pump sounds like it’s working over time to pump the water, I’ve cleaned the needles with the safety pin. Each time a pod explodes it takes FOREVER to clean the entire machine out for thousands of grounds! Ugh
It’s the pod?? Tell that to my biodegradable SFB pods that have no seal they are just mesh on the bottom. I complained to the SFB and they sent me new pods… The new ones are worse and I’m thinking it might be my Keurig.
I had about 2 or 3 k-cups per week explode before I tried this trick. It's been 2 years now and I haven't had a problem since. :) Just poke the pin hole off centre so it doesn't interfere with the hole the plunger pierces.
No, because the needle puncturing the lid from the top and bottom closes back in on those same holes smothering them. Having an extra hole in the side of the lid only for air intake is what the safety pin is for. 1 hole for water, 1 hole for coffee to come out, and 1 hole for airflow.
Never had that happen with 3 different models of K-Cup coffee makers over about 8 years of using them. That should never happen if the top AND bottom is properly pierced by coffee maker. Tjhe bottom hole will permit air and liquid to pass as the machine pumps the hot water in. The only reason for this to happen is if the outlet hole is not big enough or not actually made properly. LOOK at that part of the coffee maker.
Hope it helps! I was having them explode about 2 times per week, but it hasn't happened since I made this video over a year ago. Just make sure you poke the hole off to the side so that the plunger on the Keurig doesn't plug it back up. (So an IN hole and an OUT hole for air flow.)
john marcantel Yeah i thought that would work (or should work) but I've had incidences where the grinds still shoot out that way. It must replug the hole or something. But ever since I've done this pinhole trick i haven't had any problems :) i just make sure that the pinhole is off to the side a bit so the plunger that closes down doesn't clog it.

Thanks so much for posting your video. What a relief that it's an easy fix!

I've found that some pod manufacturers use a foil seal that is too thin to hold the pressure. Cover your pods with with tape and voila!
I actually poke a hole in the k cup, calculating where the needle punctures the kcup. It will still spill coffee grounds. ???
I know this an old video, but I’m so grateful that I found it! 😊

I was about ready to throw out my machine...your tip worked. Thanks 🙏
You just saved me $50+ bucks! Thanks for the tip and video!
Thanks A Billion , It Helped Lots
I just had that happen and it is a nuisance to clean up..thank you Aaron!

Works!! thanks I was about to buy a new Keurig

@@GregMcGinnis-y7e glad to hear it. Just make sure it doesn't interfere with the other holes. (So poke it kinda close to the edge of the foil).

None of my k cups have the ploom. I don't see how it could be the capsule's fault.

Donna B there’s a cure for that. Check u tube.

Super helpful thank you
Thanks our whole box are puffy😂😂
Thanks! I'll give it a shot.
I’m going to try this! Ty! 😊 We we’re going to toss the keurig. I thought I’d ck online.
Im going to try, if it doesn't work to the trash it goes

I tried it this morning and so far so good, thanks
So far I've only had one explode in the two years we've owned it. I'll keep this in mind if it becomes a problem.
Or you can just close close down the lid and reopen it... and close it back down

was just on way to take to trash can when I thought I'd RUclips it.... I'll try it

This is great news. Keurig said its my water I need to us bottled
Lord of the GODS!!!! THANK YOU!
That's dumb, just push the k cup down so it pokes a hole on the bottom.
