    Every time I hear that first you're not alone! Give me your hand! I get goosebumps and wonder how many people have hung on to his words.

      If I'm not mistaken, this song illustrates the point in the Ziggy story where our hero is reaching out to his followers, only to be devoured by them, limb from limb?
      And this ritualistic suicide somehow saved your life? Are you the new rock 'n roll Messiah, Ed? The king is dead, long live......Ed?

    • @bookertable
      @bookertable 4 года назад

      Hey there, if that is the narrative, it’s not explicit. I totally responded to the empathy in the lyric, tremendous.
      No king Ed please, it’s Mr Ed, like the talking horse

      @@bookertable Ed is well-bred. This is well-known. But he can still be the Messiah.

    There's a reason we didn't allow our parents revulsion to Bowie's sexual androgyny to sway us. Bowie was us and no song he ever did so faithfully represented that than this. We hated our parents for ignoring the obvious. We were tired of their lecturing when we saw where it took them. We decided to stop hating and start accepting. Didn't last long but David gave us hope. We weren't alone.

    Have to think that this was written for his brother, who eventually did commit suicide.

    • @agemoth
      @agemoth 4 года назад

      Kevin D 😢 was that the same brother he made the song Aladdin Sane for??

    • @kevind4850
      @kevind4850 4 года назад

      @@agemoth - Yeah, half-brother Terry Burns who was an early influence. Though "Aladdin Sane" might have been more of Bowie projecting Terry's illness onto himself, others like "All the Madmen" and "Bewley Brothers" were definitely referring to Burns. Was likely not difficult for Bowie to infuse his characters and lyrics with observations taken from Terry's abused and destroyed descent into schizophrenic psychosis. To me, this song has always seemed more like a plea to Terry to take some offered help.

    • @suz5862
      @suz5862 4 года назад

      @ Lorraine and Kevin D. The song Aladdin Sane was actually written about the madness of war hence the referencing to the dates in the title (1913, 1938, 197?) . In 1972, when it was being written the US had dropped 20,000 tons of bombs on heavily populated areas in Vietnam which raised the spectre of another world war.
