Will the Elite Series 3 be MORE Reliable? Probably Not... (MEGA RANT)

  • My Elite Series 2 Review: • The Elite Series 2 is ...
Todays video is a very vulgar rant, just like the old days of the channel. Although this one has a little more forethought. The Series 3 isn't out yet and likely won't be until, at the earliest, late 2022. But I thought I'd share some thoughts that I've had floating around for a while, specifically thoughts on reliability and the public perception of elite controllers. If you have any thoughts of your own on the topic, be sure to leave them down in the comments below. We're all controller nerds on this channel
I hope you guys enjoyed this one and I'll see you very soon in my "SCUF Instinct VS Series 2" video!

So, I know this rant is a bit winded (and aggressive) but I appreciate you guys coming out to watch! If you have something to add, please leave it down here in the comments section for further discussion with fellow Controller nerds lol
One thing I also forgot to bring up is the series 2 revision. This videos is focused more so on the series 3, but since I was already discussing it I probably should've brought that up. There's no evidence to suggest the Elite Series 2 got a revision during its current run unfortunately. Even if it did, the same problems happen with this controller in all the same spots!
    Okay, I'm done ranting 😂

Despite what you say about the 2 and 3 i still wanna see what microsoft comes up with I dont own an elite or any really fancy custom controller I have the stock one with stick extenders and trigger stops so I havnt tested it personally but if microsoft really does fix the 3 like everybody wants them to I might actually buy one but after like a year so that we can see those long term reviews roll in and if anybody had serious stick drift/bumper/anything issues im not gonna even think about buying a controller that cost over half the cost of my console just for it to break in 3 months

They favor comfortability over durability . They should make pro controllers that have less features but last longer. Because they waste time making these random features when all people really want is a controller with 2-4 paddle’s , that last a long time

if they could make a single use controller they would.
Like it would be the most comfortable controller ever but it would last for a day and it costs 20 bucks because fuck you, the consumer.

I loved my Series 1. Maybe I just got lucky, but it was exactly what I expected and lasted me about a year and a half with few mechanical issues. So when it finally became unusable, I was actually excited to get my hands on the Series 2. It looked sleek, and I just thought to myself, "The Series 1 did fine by me, and they couldn't possibly go backwards." Boy was I wrong. Now I haven't used the controller in a while now, so I don't even remember what issues I had with it. I think it was something along the lines of stick drift and one of the sticks didn't even click. It was something like that. Regardless, this was all within 1-2 months of even owning the controller, making them literally... And I mean literally unusable. For all I know it came outta the box with these problems. After that experience, you would have to show me multiple videos of people praising the fuck out of the Series 3, without being paid to do so, for me to even consider buying another Elite Controller. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Edit: I'm also not the type to buy warranties. It's expensive enough as it is. If I'm gonna pay 150+ on something like a controller, I expect to get my moneys worth. For my controller to be broken damn near right out of the box, I wouldn't even want a replacement.

    • @chrisgee9111
      @chrisgee9111 2 года назад +1

You should have taken the replacement and sold it, would have least got your money back?
      Agree, these things are expensive!
My experience is opposite, S1 was garbage S2 been great BUT recently bottom grip started peeling, new bottom chassis required at £60.
Can buy a brand new controller on eBay for £100.
Have to say, I do really like the S2 though.

    • @uriNATE14
      @uriNATE14 2 года назад

I get where your coming from not wanting to buy warranty, but you should be thinking about it the opposite way man, the more expensive something is , should be more reason to insure it, like u don’t get a 100k car and not get full coverage on it ya know? I just got a series 2 and I paid $20 more for 3 YEARS coverage, I had my series 1 controller 2 years with no issues and only cashed in on the warranty because I wasn’t using it anymore and figured I could use the $200. Lol. Buy the warranty and u can literally get ur money back minus the warranty cost 3 years down the road even if u don’t want to replace it.

Those adjustable tension thumbstick modules were a mistake, not only do they make the modules less reliable and more prone to drift, but they increase the amount of slop in the sticks (the mechanical deadzone) because of the increased amount of moving parts. You can really feel it in comparison to the new Series X controllers that have slightly better recentering force on the sticks than the old ones. I think I used my Elite S2 like, 3-4 times? Then it went straight back in the case and I went back to using my Elite S1, entirely because of the sticks.

I stand by my statement from a year ago. The razed tournament and I’m assuming the ultimate are the best controllers. I’ve had mine for a year. And this is a year of hard use on Fortnite which is known to destroy controllers and the only thing wrong with it is the left thumbstick is wearing down. And it’s still not bad because the thumbstick were created so thick. I genuinely stand by this controller.

Hi, I'm from Poland and I bought it for $ 90 Gambit yesterday. The first impression was pretty good. The surface of the analog sticks could be a bit larger. The triggers are very fast. So fast that I had to reduce their sensitivity through the applications because I was accidentally shooting while playing Warzone all the time. I was counting on triggers the most and here it is great, but I really wanted paddles. And here I have a problem. While playing, I squeeze the controller and press the paddles all the time by accident. I programmed them under L3 and B to run fast and slide, but it bothers more than helps. I wonder if I will be able to get used to using them at all. In general, I think that $ 90 is probably worth buying. We'll see after a month of playing if I was right.
Do any of you have paddles programmed for Warzone and can write what your settings are?
    Thanks

I'm disappointed no one has utilized lidar sensors to calculate the position of a joy stick instead of using the good old direct contact method. There are keyboards that have moved to laser triggers, the mechanical click just being there for feel. So they could do the same thing with controller joysticks. Just a bit more math and will probably cost more. But I think it would be a good add for an almost 200 dollar controller. Imagine if stick drift can be fixed by either swapping out a joystick insert, cleaning the joystick and the socket, or recalibration the lasers.

So, ExtremeRate released a faceplate for the stock Series X controller that has the rubberization and precision rings even down to the pattern, similar to the ES2.
I'm going to do a build. I'm fucking pumped.

@vCuda can you review the Gulikit King Kong Pro 2 to see if they are durable? Only thing missing is back paddles / buttons. I was thinking with a controller adapter maybe it could be a reliable controller for Xbox. I will be waiting for a potential King Kong Pro 3 with back buttons though

He's right tho, 4 months in and both my bumpers stoped working, got it sent to get fixed and not even a month in and the left analog starts drifting like crazy. It sucks that these things happen because i stoped using all my other controllers as soon as i bought it.

They should look into hall sensors and parts that you can swap out completely. The Elites usually only lasted me 3-6 months on average so 3 month warranty doesnt do shit. I always had to get best buy warranties and hope I got one that lasted atleast 12 months. I play a full variety of consoles, emulation, etc these days so it doesnt get as much use. Im also alternating between the King Kong 2 Pro as Im liking it better for alot of games, so this current elite 2 is lasting me a little longer than usual. The King Kong has way more features overall, seems more durable, feels great and is only about 60 bucks, so easily replacable if it broke after a year. I already had to brook adapter for Xbox and Sony consoles , since I use all types of controllers on these consoles.

You should review the nacon revolution unlimited pro controller, I think they have a different thumbstick module, I've been using it for a year plus and I have no stick drift at 0 deadzone. It might have something to do with the low stick tension which also feels amazing.

Jesus Christ your rant is my rant every since I purchased the series 1. After the series 2 I'll be looking for a better 1 but shit to be quiet honest finding a good wireless controller is fucking maddening! I wanna pull my hair out just thinking about it sometimes.

i really enjoy the rants, man. I get really annoyed by reviewers that get the new package and never go back to product months later or do teardowns (i know they have a LOT of things to review so they can't always). So all the viewer / consumer is left with is a really nice controller or gadget or widget that is fresh out of the box and of course it's really nice day one. Car reviewers fall into that same category for me. yeah it drove great on the test loop, cool. How does it do when it's -20 out? does it creak all the damn time? does the bluetooth take forever to connect?
So many people on these platforms end up just being QVC Salesmen and it's gross. Thanks for being You.
    I'll shut up

I've gone through 4 elite controllers right now my current one the bumpers don't work the rb only works 1 out 5 hard attempts and both the front shells have fallen off due to minor drops on tile floor the back buttons on the right side sometimes only work if you press it hard af or smack the controller to make it go back to normal

I keep saying this on this channel, but I brought an elite series 2, off the back of a review online. After 3 months I got stick drift and after 5 months the LB button started to get unreliable. I went online to try to find out why and found this channel, got the Razor Wolverine tournament edition and can honestly say it was the best controller I ever used. Started to get slight stick drift after 14 months (after many hours of play). That controller was recommended by this channel. Shame the wolverine TE looks crap, otherwise I would have brought it in a flash. Currently using a Vitrix Gambit and so far, so good.

I dropped my first series 2 controller a few times then some of the paddles started to not work that well, so I got it refunded then got a new one. Since I learned from my past mistakes, I treated that one like a king and it 2 paddles still broke (had to press extra hard for them to register) after 10 months. annoyed me a lot.

Great video I am glad some speaks what I have been suffering for Generations!! The way i do it is return a controller that has bad drift to gamestop to get credit and buy a new controller on sale. Now I use Microsoft points to buy controllers on the Microsoft store. Whatever I can do to save money because its a guarantee the controller will break down in a year or just a little more. The elite controllers have all broken on me as well with drift i either trade them at GameStop to get another one even broken or fight with Microsoft to get a new one. Whatever it takes but we shouldn’t be made to suffer like this just to play our games what a disgrace

My 2x spectra infinitys with warranty swaps is still going strong. No mic buzz with proper stereo headset. When one drifted i sent it off. Used the other. It came back a new one. The pad feels great. £65 for pro controller for two years :D until i find eventually an even better cheaper option haha

Have you tried the Turtle Beach Recon Controller or the thrustmaster eswap controller?
Really curious if it has any bad deadzones like majority of xbox controllers have
If it doesnt it could be game changing for xbox especially for the price
Deadzones is really the only thing i care about cause personally it makes almost all xbox controllers impossible to use cause of how big the deadzones are

I found another controller company…Cinch Gaming…most of the reviews were kinda dumb and seemed endorsed and hella obnoxious. I was just wondering if that company is on your radar at all. Their warranty is short but they aren’t terribly expensive compared to like battle beaver which seems like the closest comparison.
