As a dietitian I can’t agree with number 1. Don’t go overboard with the fats, but appreciate that they add flavour, nutrients and satiety to a well balanced, high fibre meal. They also help you absorb fat soluble vitamins from other foods.
@@leslovesliberty1776that tip doesn’t work for everybody though (peanut allergy, or me with crohns disease so I can’t handle nuts). so long as you don’t overdo it, adding a reasonable amount of oil to your cooking is more than fine. problem is some people use way more than they think they need
I don't get a lot of fat in my diet, not on purpose, I'm just vegetarian and eat a lot of whole veggies. The only fat I tend to get day to day is from almonds and the bit of EV olive oil I use to cook up my veggies. Fat is important and I think saying "don't cook with oil" is unreasonable. There are some good oils out there. I buy olive oil in a spray which definitely helps with portions. Instead of pouring oil I just mist it til I feel my veggies/food are just covered enough to not scorch/stick.
Im 51 and Ive probably been 'dieting' for 45 years, no joke. I promise you this is the most no nonsense, reality based, doable and sustainable list of tips Ive ever heard. Thanks so much for posting this!
I’m 60 and agree! The sad thing is, when I was at what is now my goal weight, I looked fantastic but felt fat, or that I could look even better if only I was a size smaller. Why do we do this to ourselves?
I’m here to say something similar… I’m 38 and struggled with weight for 25 years (used to be naturally skinny and since my twins have ballooned!!) but this was sooooo straight forward. Thank you!
@@lightfulynx Your comment intrigued me so I took a look at your channel (very good!) and watched your introductory “Embrace Your Inner Dork” video. You speak very naturally and powerfully but I think you’re being SUPER hard on yourself if you say you’ve “ballooned”. It’s important to eat well and live a healthy lifestyle, so that’s good; but I think you should remember how attractive you are and feel good about that.
I realize this was aired 7 months ago so you probably won’t read this, but if you do, I want you to know this was one of the most helpful videos I’ve seen anywhere ever. I can’t thank you enough for printing out the list.
I lost 25 pounds and used all the olive or avocado oil I wanted in cooking and salad dressing. I figured the oil was healthy, and I needed it, and it worked for me.
That's interesting. I was thinking same.I have bad optical nerve damage after accident and " gut instinct " says I need good oils and I can't always afford lots of different nuts.Thank you.Keep well.
@reseyworldexactly. Fat is the most calorie dense macronutrient, and if it's not paired with fiber and/or protein, it's usually not as filling. I find fat from nuts to be more satisfying than fat from plain oil.
It can be healthy if not over used. Olive and avocado oil are considered healthy fats because of what they're usually paired with: protein and fiber. Avocado (fruit) is also a healthy fat because it's usually paired with something with fiber and protein.
@@katieinhops5163 in that case, you could say all fats are healthy. Most people don't just eat fat in a meal. If you're eating a full meal, it's almost always paired with protein and fiber. Technically, in the right amounts, every food is perfectly fine and healthy, with that argument. But generally, if I put an extra unnoticed 15g of fat on something (easy to do with olive oil and nut butter, etc) that can easily be an added 100+ calories down the drain when having a little less would've given me basically the same taste and fullness. It's not that fat should be avoided, it's that it's important to be careful because a little makes a big difference with miniscule amounts.
I agree with EVERY tip! Reducing oil and adding more veg were the two things that helped me the most. Complete game changers. I also focused on “more movement” instead of an exercise routine. So now I walk a lot more, dance around my house, and take the stairs instead of the elevator. It works for me!
Yes! Putting on some music and dancing while cooking and cleaning is a great way to make the necessary mundane activities more enjoyable and get in that movement without worrying about whether you’ve had enough “exercise” that week.
That's exactly what I've just started doing! I won't ditch oil, just reducing, and going for short walks and a bit of fun dancing. I think I might start yoga as well, I'm procrastinating this for too long!
I am an older woman and most of my life I have been fighting the same 30 lbs. In the course of that struggle I have read and watched a lot of weight loss content. I clicked on this video because I need to lose 5-10% of my body weight for the sake of my joints. You make so much sense. Thank you for this practical, realistic content that I actually can apply in real life.😊
So realistic. I’m tired of complicated recipes and meal plans. I need to think less about food. Not more. That daily weighing helps me to realize that what i do in a day does have an effect.
from someone who was for a long time “thicker”. I have dieted to lose weight and I have changed my diet to become healthier so many times for years and this is what finally helped: - dont quit something but limit it - weigh your food and inform yourself about portion sizes - do not quit oil, it adds so much flavour and pleasure to eating.. simply reduce the amount you are eating to one tablespoon per meal - try to combine the hunger crushing combo (a meal/snack with fat, protein, fiber, (and carbs). It’s proven to fill you up quite fast because it has all you need in it - weigh yourself periodically. know yourself, it is easy to say “it’s just data”, but it is not for most of us. You cannot change how you feel about a number over night - use diet coke to fulfil your sweet cravings (max 2 per day). Is it the healthiest option? no, but it does not add calories so try it to get used to eating less when you are not actually hungry. - allow yourself to have fast food every now and then, but change your order to be less big and less calorie dense. Be smart about what you know fills u up and what does not - you have an intense craving? try to find a “light” version of that product and eat a portion size (oven baked chips vs regular chips already makes a difference). - the only thing I would recommend for you to truly stop is alcohol I have never been able to lose weight until I started paying attention to HOW much I eat. That one was the game changer for me (also realising how many calories nuts and chips have HAHA). I was always eating double the portion of what you need to become full and I had never realised it. No one had ever told me that. My entire family eats that much. So I stopped obsessing about WHAT I eat and I changed how much I ate of that thing. I lost 10kg in 4 months and I never felt like I was depriving myself of any food. I was even eating pizza which is crazy calorie dense! So before you try all else, check your portion sizes:) If you are always feeling incredibly full after eating, then you are probably making meals that are too large. You just have to look at the box of whatever you are eating and see the amount of grams they deem as one portion et voila! :)
This jus5 doesn’t allow for the psychology of eating/overeating. Minimal carbs promote craving for more carbs! Protein and fibre are imperative, but any carbs cause release of cortisol. For emotional eaters, just saying eat fewer or different carbs fails to heed both the cortisol impact and the emotional drivers. Why don’t we wake up to this?
I second the portion size thing. No one batted an eye that I, as a 10 year old child, was eating the same portions as an adult. Decades of that will definitely simply cause weight gain! The moment I reduced my portion sizes to half, and told myself I could eat more later if I wanted to , the weight began to fall off.
OMG I absolutely LOVE the 10th tip! That is my favourite tip! I'm going to make "Dont miss twice" my rule of thumb for now on.I was trying to come up with "consequences" for whenever I have a slip up but to tell myself "dont miss twice" THAT is a good consequence. I'll tell myself that if I eat wrong one day, eat right the next.
Thanks a bunch for the useful habits! Many of them I've already incorporated into my lifestyle. Like many women I struggled with weight gain due to hormonal reasons for a long time and aspect health really helped me out. I recommend it to anyone dealing with a similar issue.
Having done so much reading and research personally, and also having biology and pharmaceutical degrees, I was *delighted*, borderline amazed, to hear you speak on the exercise research correctly. It is so rare to see anyone in the weight loss/fitness influencer sphere who is knowledgeable (or will admit) that the science simply doesn’t back up that exercise creates *long term weight loss - fyi it doesn’t. If you were extremely sedentary then yes it will help increase loss for a few months, it if you have a semi-active, normal life it’ll balance out very quickly. Almost all “research” that suggests otherwise was literally sponsored by Coco-cola or Nestle
Girl, after 47 years you're the first who makes sense to me. :) I'll incorporate your lovely simple tips and let you know in a couple of weeks how I'm doing :) Thank you thank you thank you!!
Well I just shared this with a group. I just kinda want to shout it from the roof.... "LISTEN to this gal! She is so inspiring!" Even though I lost my weight years ago, YOU keep me going young lady!
I am switching from being a pescatarian to vegan and this was THE most helpful information I have heard! I am that person with all the fancy vegan cookbooks and feeling very overwhelmed. I have never been over weight until I turned 58 and bam! I gained weight like crazy! I am going to implement these 10 steps and I am looking at your other material. Thanks for the simplicity!
I was 120 lbs as a middle schooler/teen. Transitioning to adult life and getting in a comfy relationship made me gain weight up to 196 lbs when I was around 23 years old. I’m gonna be turning 27 in a few months and I’m back down to 149 currently, and my goal is to get to 130. My weight loss hasn’t been as fast as I would like but I’m getting there regardless. It’s taken a lot of learning and habit breaking to get back to where I am. Weight loss can be really fast for some and for others it can take years. The most important thing is that you can get yourself to stay consistent! Good luck to everyone else who is on their own journey, and thank you for this video!
Best down to earth advice that actually makes sense! I think many of us fall into the trap of overthinking things. Morning work out vs. Evening etc. Getting in the habit of things and making it a routine is HUGE. Thats the most important part. Thank you for creating this.❤
I agree. We dont need recipes. Just make plates/bowls with ingredients we love. Batch cook starches etc which helps to put it altogether. i also like to make smoothies where I add frozen cauliflower and chickpeas (you cant taste them. Keeps me full for hours. This is my lifestyle after 6 years of losing 35 pounds ❤
Decision fatigue! I have never heard this explained. I've seen hundreds of videos, read many things, and this video was simply put. Thank you for explaining simplicity in the best way, I really needed to hear this.
I have been obsessively watching weightloss videos and yes, some of the tips are run of the mill but the way you explain and go into each one is really helpful and it makes me feel more engaged. The last one hit me like a truck. I love it and it makes so much sense. I hope to implement it in my journey.
Finally disconnecting exercise from scale weight tipped the mental scales in my favor. I now really enjoy movement, and I've found joy in walking and daily movement. I strength train 3 times a week for my bones, tendons, and to help me as I age. Disconnecting it from weight loss and finding other, stronger motivation changed my perspective. I'm 55, and let's face it, I'm just not as bothered by the flab or wrinkles, but I am motivated by the thoughts of being independent and strong as I age.
This is the best video I’ve ever seen on this topic. The most simple but direct tools people can use to make actual habits and see long term change. So much psychology involved in helping people loose weight and this advice totally takes that into account. You totally nailed it.
you're giving a lot of advice that inspires me for dealing with ADHD too, with all the insight about barriers and the water bottle example. it means a lot to me that you're sharing your wisdom (and for free!) im going to share your content more for this reason
Thank you for this lovely refresher course! It always helps to have the points reiterated 😊 I've lost 70 lbs eating whole food plant based with a few hits and misses but what helped me most was the 'don't miss twice' approach...just carry on as usual. I'm 41 and finally only about 5-10 lbs away from my goal weight 😊 Its difficult this side of 40,but totally doable with a more active lifestyle 💪
My jaw dropped, when you added vegetables to the Dominos pizza! For me it often is an either or, healthy or junk, just gulping down their yummy vegan pizza and feeling bad about my lack of disciplin. Such a brillant idea to just prepare veggies, while waiting for the delivery man! ❤🎉
Pro tip. Keep the sauces like the dominos ranch that is SO good, and use it to dip veggies in. Haha it’s like tricking your mind into thinking your eating dominos because you associate that taste with pleasure! 😂🤷♀️
I make a “pizza” salad to go with my pizza. It has similar ingredients and spices and goes so well together. Like Romain, sundried tomatoes, seasoned artichoke hearts, bell peppers or banana peppers, sometimes more protein, and Italian seasoning
I absolutely will not go to the gym if it's not scheduled in my week. I recently started going, and realized that if it wasn't planned out in my planner then I'd forget to go. I pick which classes I want to try, and schedule in "free time" as will to do what I want there. It's a "date with myself". 😊
Finally some different tips! I've watched dozens of these kinds of videos and they all repeat. You give real insight to thought processes and hidden calories!
I was hesitant to watch this because these kinds of videos can get repetitive but this list was so practical and helpful! I am feeling very hopeful that I will lose weight by implementing these things :)
These are great practical tips! I think I already do most of them as my partner and I love cooking and we always cook from scratch, I also always do 10,000 steps a day. The biggest takeaways from this for me is to mix more veg in with my carbs and use less oil.
This video came into existence at the perfect time for me! I have implemented several points discussed now. I am not vegan nor am I particularly interested, instead I have decided to make plants the star of my plate with animal protein as co-star and it has been working well so far. Since this video posted I've dropped 8 lbs, increased my fiber (one of my goals), lowered my slightly elevated blood pressure (also one of my goals). I have NEVER dropped weight this quickly and easily. All while not feeling hungry or deprived. And honestly, there have been meals that I don't have meat because I feel satisfied enough without it. Things are moving in the right direction! Basically playing food tetris with calorie density LOL. Thanks Chelsea!!😘😉
I do the most random things lol. Lately I’ve enjoyed zucchini, (or shredded cabbage) that I process through my mandoline slicer (sorta look like short fries). I water sauté and throw in marinara with few green olives. With few roasted potatoes on the side. Soups of all kinds. This week, roasted butternut squash, sweet potatoes. Sauté some onion, and puréed the cooked veg. And burrito bowl using rice, corn, little chicken, avocado and pico de gallo. I typically have roasted veg and chicken breast marinaded and cooked on hand. Made a pot of beans also this week, navy beans with a little smoke lean turkey meat. Hope that helps 😊
@@youheard4052Yes this was really helpful! You gave me so much great ideas, especially how to incorporate more veggies into my meals which is what I’ve been lacking, thank you! 😊
Loved your list of habits! I couldn't agree more on the subject of more and more recipes not being the answer. If we're trying to live a lifestyle where food is our fuel (not our entertainment), then a giant repertoire of recipes just complicates matters. I love the idea of 3-5 core recipes as fall-back for getting a meal together quickly and relatively effortlessly. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!
I have NEVER found a video that spells out these concept better. I love that you focus on making things easy, because I always wonder how other people do it?! They always prepare fresh meals but I have always found that to be way too complicated for me to do consistently! For mre, I think simplification would definitely be key.
I hear what you are saying about how many calories are in oil, however cutting healthy oil out of your diet entirely for a long term eating habit is problematic. Olive oil is very good for you and apparently women need healthy oils in their diet.
Truly she is speaking of calorie deficits, so if you burn enough calories then you don't need to cut out all the high calorie items, but if you are mostly sedentary then the calorie cut needs to be more extreme to hit those deficits. I would bet that most of us could easily cut the amount of oil we cook with in half. I know I could and will be more aware of moving forward.
Cutting out oils is not unhealthy as long as you are getting fat from whole food sources. Eating olives, avocado, nuts, and seeds, etc. you would be just fine. Women need healthy fats in their diet, but the fat does not need to come from oil. When you eat it as a Whole Food you get the additional benefits of fiber and nutrients also.
"Buy vegetables you enjoy" - I love this point. Giving yourself permission to choose one or two veggies to rotate is so freeing. When I think about getting healthier it's so easy to run and want to buy all the things but like you said, it's just going to rot in the fridge haha as hard as it is to resist buying 10 different veggies, thinking I'm doing the best thing, it's way more realistic to keep my main veggies down to one or two and keep those on rotation until it's an nearly effortless habit. I work full time and I don't always feel like cooking so whatever I can do to make it easier and less effort for myself is helpful!! Thanks for sharing!
Love the way you explain and breakdown these points into clear and bite size chunks, you are great in simplifying but stating that which works 😍 thank you for sharing and inspiring us 😍🙏🏻
EXCELLENT rundown !! ❤ And I agree about too many recipes. I freaking love to cook, which I believe adds to my wanting to overeat. Good basic meals, actually kind of boring meals, keeps me from getting too excited about eating and keeps my taste buds under control.
i have lost 40+ pounds in the last two years: folks, this is EXACTLY how you do it. The “3 core meals” advice is gold. i have 4-5 meals i make again and again. i like them, they are healthy, they’re simple, dinner is done and i dont have to think about it. *Great* advice.
You've got a gift -- I hope you know that! I like how you are so straightforward and you talk about things like mental blocks (i.e. having to remove the lid of a water bottle). These "little things" matter. You have a non-judgmental way about you, and best of all you show us how to keep things EASY. If it's too hard it won't happen...at least for me!
You are talking to ME when you mention perfectionist, all or nothing mentalities. I am the person who diets for 3 months, feels great, then lets it all go for the next 3 months. Gains it all back. I wish I could mentally stop the cycle and go to a moderation-based mindset but it’s like going against the grain of my being. The more strict, the more rules the better, but when I go off I go hard 😢
Hey, I get that. It's hard!! There are ways to break it though. I recommend the book atomic habits, our program is based on it and it is incredible. If you're wanting personal help then Id love to hop on a call and talk about a strategy to start overcoming this all or nothing behaviour and start losing weight in 2024. I get groceries every monday and when I get home I prep everything...veggies cut up, brocolli steamed for meals, a couple proteins made and chia pudding for breakfasts. Sometimes I also do snack bowls with yogurt/fruit or different protein. It helps me stay on track!!!!
Thank you for these videos. Your weight loss tips are so approachable and practical! The tips are all familiar, yet I feel like you're my personal coach/cheerleader motivating and inspiring me to keep going!
I cook with water. You can saute shallots in water. Steam mushrooms and courgette without oil.instead of salt I add lemon or herbs such as coriander. I use a good non stick pot and have scrambled eggs or omelette made without any oil or butter
Habits, good habits help so much because you're right, you don't have to 'think'..... because you already know what to buy / what to cook/ what to eat/drink. Thanks
Oh my gosh, I've FINALLY found an approach that I can actually implement in my own life!!! I LOVE your emphasis on simplicity. As a busy working mum of two myself, I CANNOT afford to spend tons of mental energy on what I eat. Your framework is so so actionable - I've started batch-steaming sweet potatoes in my instant pot (four medium ones will fit on the trivet in one go!) and batch-cooking grains (buckwheat, which both my husband and i love) to make up the 1/2 of my HATS meals; I use a microwave steamer to steam a buttload of vegetables (tenderstem broccoli and asparagus are my favourite) for my main meals, chuck it all together and add some kind of healthy dressing (which contains a bit of fat, maybe a peanut butter + sriacha dressing that I make). SO SIMPLE. I can live like this sustainably!!! Thank you Chelsea, I LOVE your content and approach to eating and will keep you posted on my progress!
Love the video and the way you explay things! But I feel like some people need to hear that: you that are watching this must find the diet that works best for you. Personally, I never lost any weight while being on deficit, but I lost 10 kg by not being in deficit but having a lot of balanced meals and long walks because that's what works for me. Try everything if you can, and find out what's the best for your own body!
I'm so happy you're actually promoting a McDougall diet (plant-based, starch-based, oil-free diet). :) Very rare to find in times where everyone eats low carb.
I’m glad this video showed up in my feed. One thing I do is use spray oil when roasting or cooking veggies. Still get a tiny bit of oil for minimal calories. I also weigh myself daily and get the weekly average and it’s so helpful. New subscriber 🎉
Great video and great tips! I’m definitely going back to eating cleaner and making veggies my main dish with every meal besides breakfast. I’ll check out your quick recipes as well!
Loved this video! Particularly, 'don't miss twice'! I think this will help break the all or nothing mentality which I find can disrupt my good habits for longer than a little slip.
So agree about the exercise! I walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day and it does nothing. A few years back my biggest results were from changing what I ate. I mean I do my walking because it's just a normal part of life (I don't have a car) and I like it, but year 80 percent of my weight loss was based on what I ate I love the five minute meal ideas! I hate cooking and felt like I had to do the Hello Fresh meals etc which always took me about an hour to make and that was just such a barrier I just eat chocolate for dinner instead. Am going to do the five minutes option with that really good dip you recommended!
Great tips! My favorite was "Never miss twice". I can and will implement that immediately (especially since I missed today's 3 mile walk. I will not miss tomorrow's!) 😀
I add a running 10 day average to my weight spreadsheet. Something like =AVERAGE(B2:B12) and as you copy the cell down, the # index will track. Helps with smoothing out those daily swings.
Thank you! These are some great ideas that I will be starting tomorrow.I will say the weighing daily actually Ive been doing and find it very helpful. I also daily exercise. My workouts are not bootcamps! Low impact videos or walks outside, atleast 15 minutes. It mentally makes me feel good.
I never heard of habit number 10, never skipping 2 days. Wow, I love that and it spoke to me loud and clear. I will definitely be incorporating that into my journey. Thank you!!
Thank you so much! Just saw this video today, but I definitely feel empowered to start at least some of these habits! I remember years ago I started the habit of not drinking any soda or tea and lost so much weight! I will definitely start eating more veggies with every meal! Thank you for sharing with us!🤗
YES. A lot of these tips seem like common sense, but I feel like your list really narrowed down the reasoning for my lack of commitment to eating healthier (!!). The point of all of these tips is to make eating healthier easierrrrrrr. I tend to go crazy with meal prep (where it has to be a whole performance, complete with all of the perfect ingredients, etc.) - I need to start focusing on how simple and non-prep veg fits into my diet on the daily. Thank you for this, Chelsea!
This is really amazing information. When i followed this lifestyle I was in amazing shape and maintained my weight, In the past year I have broken all of these. I have given into stress and gained eaisily 15 pounds. This was a great reminder of how easy it really is to do things that benefit me!
Thank you for these tips! They make a ton of sense. I am getting ready to get back to a whole foods/plant based diet and I needed these reminders as I tend to fall into that all or nothing mindset at times or try and change everything at once and when I mess up it's hard to get back on track. I need to build the consistency and make things simpler and it was nice to hear these reminders.
Omg yes on the easy meals. I’d love to see others’ but recently mine has been rotisserie chicken (precooked from store), pre-prepped broccoli, and some cheese and seasoning. Throw some of each in a bowl in the microwave. Relatively balanced and healthy for almost zero prep time. I used to also keep shredded cabbage in the fridge at all times and I’d add it to everything for bulk, crunch, and vitamins, but haven’t done that in a while.
Too much..is so right! Now with all the holiday recipes popping up, my freezer is full of ingredients that I want to try, and it’s making me so anxious! And the cookbooks…well, that’s the same story. I plan to change my approach asap. Merry Christmas to everyone. And thanks.
Thank you for making this video! I’m so glad I found it/you. You combine so many of the elements I’m already trying to apply (eating better, moving more, keeping things simple, and of course, building habits.) (I’m also reading Atomic Habits.) Looking forward to following you now. Cheers! 😊
I don’t need another recipe book but would love an A+B+C plan. I know you give a lot of ideas here, but when I’m in my kitchen looking at potatoes and broccoli, I have no idea what to put together that is appetizing. I’ve been a vegetarian for a long time, so I get stuck on what to make without eggs and cheese. It’d be nice if there was a mix and match table to bring together healthy and delicious meals instead of eating oatmeal every day for breakfast.
This might be the best video ive ever seen on healthy eating , thank you so much, ive been struggling with a bad diet ny whole life but these tips seems actually do-able and not overwhelming
Jump in fast to get going. 💃🏻 You will gain momentum and teach the brain this is what we are doing! 💚 we do what it takes because it effects everything else! It IS worth it!! Greens and beans to make you lean 💚 Loads of greens help cravings after a few days in a row 🥬 🥦
thanks for the no nosense advice... I already know this (I lost 20 kg after my last pregnancy, but have regained a few kilo's through less helpful habits...), but it's good to hear it again 🙂
I feel like you just told me what I already know but in such a way as I listen if that makes sense? These are tips for the real world rather than the perfect world. Maybe I also need to think about the same principle for other areas of my life too. I loved this video
I love your presentations! So direct and motivating. Even though I already knew most of the hacks (and do them), there are some I didn’t. I also like the reasons for each. Thank you so much.
1. Stop cooking with oil (1:42)
2. Find a CORE vegetable you really enjoy (3:42)
3. Add a ton of veg to your meals (5:29)
4. Prep a core starch (7:54)
5. Create 3 core meals that take 5 minutes or less to cook (8:56)
6. Stop drinking your calories (11:19)
7. Use the scale as data (13:14)
8. Find a pre-made condiment (16:14)
9. Have a habits based exercise goal (17:37)
10. Don’t miss twice (18:43)
Thank you for this!
Thanks, and I disagree with number 1(unless she’s talking about deep frying).
This is awesome! Thank you!
@@ChelseaMae - hope it is helpful 😊
i DEFINITELY agree with Number One!!! I have personally tried it, and my body is experienced with both ways.
As a dietitian I can’t agree with number 1. Don’t go overboard with the fats, but appreciate that they add flavour, nutrients and satiety to a well balanced, high fibre meal. They also help you absorb fat soluble vitamins from other foods.
She's not saying don't eat fat, she's saying get your fat source from the whole food, for example eat actual nuts & avocados, not nut & avocado oil.
I love salad, and I use olive oil to drizzle it with it. I might use a bit much, though.
Do you have a suggestion of a specific oil that would be better to use for roasting vegetables/cooking if you don't want to fully cut it out?
Follow the suggestions and then write back to us in three months. I wonder if you’ll still feel the same.
I’m 60 and agree! The sad thing is, when I was at what is now my goal weight, I looked fantastic but felt fat, or that I could look even better if only I was a size smaller. Why do we do this to ourselves?
Agreed
@@hoptoi WW is a calorie deficit - they just don't use that terminology
*It's motivating to see how small changes can lead to significant results. Thanks for the inspiration!*
from someone who was for a long time “thicker”. I have dieted to lose weight and I have changed my diet to become healthier so many times for years and this is what finally helped:
- dont quit something but limit it
- weigh your food and inform yourself about portion sizes
- do not quit oil, it adds so much flavour and pleasure to eating.. simply reduce the amount you are eating to one tablespoon per meal
- try to combine the hunger crushing combo (a meal/snack with fat, protein, fiber, (and carbs). It’s proven to fill you up quite fast because it has all you need in it
- weigh yourself periodically. know yourself, it is easy to say “it’s just data”, but it is not for most of us. You cannot change how you feel about a number over night
- use diet coke to fulfil your sweet cravings (max 2 per day). Is it the healthiest option? no, but it does not add calories so try it to get used to eating less when you are not actually hungry.
- allow yourself to have fast food every now and then, but change your order to be less big and less calorie dense. Be smart about what you know fills u up and what does not
- you have an intense craving? try to find a “light” version of that product and eat a portion size (oven baked chips vs regular chips already makes a difference).
- the only thing I would recommend for you to truly stop is alcohol
I have never been able to lose weight until I started paying attention to HOW much I eat.
Great advice! Did you do any exercise?
It’s a game changer.
My favorite was well!
"don't miss twice" is GOLD!
Drop whatever you are doing and go read the book Womans’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth, its absolutely life changing, trust me on this
Who is it by? I can’t find it
Olivia Thompson, you just have to google the name
You are so practical. No more dieting. This is for living.
This is the most practical, healthy video on this topic I’ve seen. Moreover, you show how eating this way is actually way cheaper!
Girl, after 47 years you're the first who makes sense to me. :) I'll incorporate your lovely simple tips and let you know in a couple of weeks how I'm doing :) Thank you thank you thank you!!
How did it go?
Well I just shared this with a group. I just kinda want to shout it from the roof.... "LISTEN to this gal! She is so inspiring!" Even though I lost my weight years ago, YOU keep me going young lady!
This is so kind. Thank you!!
She's an adult ...🤨
@@missinformed9550jeez, you got your buttons pushed.
@@missinformed9550and they called her "young lady." Why are you pressed?
@@msjkramey People need to stop with the name calling.
You’re so right “it’s just too much!” When talking about recipes! So true!!
Thank you for this lovely refresher course! It always helps to have the points reiterated 😊
I've lost 70 lbs eating whole food plant based with a few hits and misses but what helped me most was the 'don't miss twice' approach...just carry on as usual.
I'm 41 and finally only about 5-10 lbs away from my goal weight 😊
Its difficult this side of 40,but totally doable with a more active lifestyle 💪
My jaw dropped, when you added vegetables to the Dominos pizza! For me it often is an either or, healthy or junk, just gulping down their yummy vegan pizza and feeling bad about my lack of disciplin. Such a brillant idea to just prepare veggies, while waiting for the delivery man! ❤🎉
Yep, doesn't have to be all or nothing...
Pro tip. Keep the sauces like the dominos ranch that is SO good, and use it to dip veggies in. Haha it’s like tricking your mind into thinking your eating dominos because you associate that taste with pleasure! 😂🤷♀️
Frozen veg and chopping things when you get home from the store is a game changer. Opening a bag is so much easier than stopping to chop.
@@annewhitney8809 I agree! I love frozen veg mixes and add loads of them to any curry, soup or chili.
Honestly, Chelsea, this was a wonderful video.thank you!
These are great practical tips! I think I already do most of them as my partner and I love cooking and we always cook from scratch, I also always do 10,000 steps a day. The biggest takeaways from this for me is to mix more veg in with my carbs and use less oil.
I love your common sense suggestions! I need to implement these ideas!
This is the most intelligent approach to healthy eating I’ve seen, I am so excited to try some of your tips out, thank you ❤❤
Me again. This also means less awful wandering around the shop trying to decide between 1000 choices.Im excited to start. Thanks again from Ireland.
What are some of your typical meals?
100% agreed
I agree. I think we need to be conscious of how much oil/fat we add and when so we can be in a healthy range. not too much or too little
Truly she is speaking of calorie deficits, so if you burn enough calories then you don't need to cut out all the high calorie items, but if you are mostly sedentary then the calorie cut needs to be more extreme to hit those deficits.
Love the way you explain and breakdown these points into clear and bite size chunks, you are great in simplifying but stating that which works 😍 thank you for sharing and inspiring us 😍🙏🏻
So stoked its helping!!
I can totally relate to this
Hey, I get that. It's hard!!
There are ways to break it though. I recommend the book atomic habits, our program is based on it and it is incredible.
If you're wanting personal help then Id love to hop on a call and talk about a strategy to start overcoming this all or nothing behaviour and start losing weight in 2024.

Ugh same here
I get groceries every monday and when I get home I prep everything...veggies cut up, brocolli steamed for meals, a couple proteins made and chia pudding for breakfasts. Sometimes I also do snack bowls with yogurt/fruit or different protein. It helps me stay on track!!!!
This is probably the best list I've seen so far on RUclips. Thank you!
I love how comprehensive this is. Super helpful for ADHD people or neurodivergent folks
Changing your habbits and making good choices the easiest choice is brilliant. Thank you for sharing!
I also use spray oil minimally.
Everything you said hit on the spot. I will follow all the tips. I was already doing certain things but learnt more today. Thank you
This is the best list EVER. I was expecting it to be so basic but you have REALLY great info!
You’re doing an awesome job of providing great practical, real advice. Proud of you, from a fellow kiwi chick x
This is great! Its exactly the way I lost 40LBS so its refreshing to see someone else sharing such wonderful advice!!!
You are always so spot on - love your stuff Chelsea ❤
This is brilliant never thought about this
been training for over 30 years, nurse, and a vegetarian - very good advice here
Thank you!!
Thank you for this video! These are all excellent tips, but the 'don't miss twice' tip is exactly what I needed to hear.
I love hummus I think it goes great on everything
Especially steamed broccoli I also sprinkle nutritional yeast too on it
I totally agree with the keep simple philosophy. I get overwhelmed with the idea of meal prepping.
Eating the same thing all week has helped. No thinking about it. Just fueling the body ❤
Glad it was helpful!
I like how your tips are adaptable to our own taste preference. Also, really good tips for people with adhd or chronic pain.
This is really amazing information. When i followed this lifestyle I was in amazing shape and maintained my weight, In the past year I have broken all of these. I have given into stress and gained eaisily 15 pounds. This was a great reminder of how easy it really is to do things that benefit me!
effing fantastic video; love the JC reference(s) especially. commenting mostly to poke the algorithm so we can make habit reformation a normal thing!
I always put sautéed spinach in my omelettes. Today I sautéed it in water, it was delicious. I honestly didn’t know water sautéing was a thing before!
you are so right about simplifying food, I eat alot of the same things but it makes it so much more doable
Too much..is so right! Now with all the holiday recipes popping up, my freezer is full of ingredients that I want to try, and it’s making me so anxious! And the cookbooks…well, that’s the same story. I plan to change my approach asap. Merry Christmas to everyone. And thanks.
Don't miss twice! Just what I needed to hear!!
Thank you for making this video! I’m so glad I found it/you. You combine so many of the elements I’m already trying to apply (eating better, moving more, keeping things simple, and of course, building habits.) (I’m also reading Atomic Habits.) Looking forward to following you now. Cheers! 😊
Amazing information/tips and tricks! Thanks so much!
This was just what I needed to not feel overwhelmed by needing a reset.
This might be the best video ive ever seen on healthy eating , thank you so much, ive been struggling with a bad diet ny whole life but these tips seems actually do-able and not overwhelming
