    Written instructions 🤍
( doing this so I can easily find them if I have to start over. if it's not ok to comment the written instructions, tell me and I'll delete it🙏)
    Magic circle > chain 2
Row 1 : 10 double crochet (dc) in the circle > close the center by pulling the tail > slip stitch (st) in top of chain 2
Row 2 : chain 2 > 2 dc in every stitch (increase) and swap colors every 2 stitches > st in top of chain 2 (change color so it matches previous row, to continue the pattern)
Row 3 : chain 2 > increase (2 dc) in every 2nd stitch (every last stitch of each color) > st in top of chain 2 (same color, to change the pattern on next row)
Row 4 : chain 2 > increase (2 db) in every 3rd stitch (every last stitch of each color) > st in top of chain 2 (change color)
Row 5 : chain 2 > increase in every 4th stitch (last of each color) > st in top of chain 2 (change color)
Row 6 : chain 2 > increase in every 5th stitch > st in top c2 (same color)
Row 7 : chain 2 > increase in every 6th stitch > st in top c2 (change color)
Row 8 : chain 2 > 4 dc in a row then change color > 2 dc then increase (2dc) in last stitch of the color below > change color and repeat > st in top c2 (change color)
Row 9 : chain 2 > follow pattern (dc in every stitch, follow color) > st top c2
Row 10 - 13 : chain 2 > follow pattern (dc in every stitch, alternating colors) > st top c2 (change color every 2 row)
Brim Row 1 : chain 2 > increase every 7th stitch (while following color pattern) > st
    Row 2 : chain 2 > increase every 9th stitch (following pattern) > st
    Row 3 : chain 2 > increase every 11th stitch (following pattern) > st
⚠ erin estimated that one checker would be too big if she increased in it so she chose to increase one stitch early (10th instead of 11th) to make a smaller checker bigger. have to be careful and judge what looks best for your project
(Final) Row 4 : chain 2 > increase every 13th stitch (can be placed earlier or later depending on how your checkers look) > st (can change color to make it match and look nicer) > cut > pull yarn > weave in ends (in a checker one way, then other way)
☝I tried it once and had no issue until I realized that the size of my hook and yarn were smaller than hers so my hat was way too small. I'm about to start the project all over again by starting with more than 10 dc in the magic circle. I'll update here with the result, if it worked or not. I think my yarn is a 3.5mm and I used a 3mm hook, so I'll switch to my 3.5mm hook and increase the amount of dc as explained.
❕️update I tried with 16 instead of 10 dc in the magic circle. it's too big. I have to start AGAIN. I'm gonna cry
❕️❕️ 2nd update : with 13 dc in the magic circle, I managed to get a good result. the shape wasn't as bucket hatty as I'd hoped so maybe 1 more dc would have been perfect
💌 thank you so much erin for this free and simple tutorial!! it's super helpful. and also, you have a lovely voice🤌 have a good day everyone! good luck 🙏

I just finished mine, the tutorial was super easy to follow and the checkers actually made it easier to count my rows?? Crazy. Mine turned out kinda big, but I think it’s bc I used a 5.5mm hook (smallest I have on hand). A little disappointing, but that just means I can try this pattern again once I get a smaller hook :) was my first time doing a pattern where you switch colors and it turned out good!!
In conclusion, great vid will watch again :)

Hey, this might just be me but I find it really really hard to follow this tutorial with the cuts inbetween (e.g. when you did the magic loop or at 5:26)... I had to look up another tutorial for this reason but maybe it´s just because I´m a complete newbie to crocheting! Love how your hats turned out though! xx

Would it work alright to use cotton yarn for this bucket hat? Also how much yarn is estimated that I need for this project? Red Heart supersaver is not available where I'm from!

    • @KnitsByNayla
      @KnitsByNayla 2 года назад +1

I don’t see why cotton wouldn’t work. I used craftsmart value yarn. Had 2 skeins (each 354 yards/7 oz; 324 m/198 g). I used probably a third of each skein.

    • @Ellie-jq2ij

@@KnitsByNayla I appreciate your answer! My concern with using cotton yarn was that it wouldn't be as stretchy and perhaps make the size a little smaller, but think I deffo will use cotton in the end though 😅

With the same yarn and hook you’d have to adjust the pattern, not unless you use a thinner yarn. Don’t add as many rows to the circle in the beginning and then adjust your checkered squares!

same issue here bc I used a smaller hook and yarn, only noticed it was going to be too small when I reached row 13 lmao. I'm trying again by making the original circle bigger, so instead of 10 dc in the magic ring I'll put in 16 or something, I'll update here later!

@namasterri hi!! first try ended up too large so I settled on 13 dc? maybe 12 or 14? I don't remember, but I kept a larger size hook (6 probably) and it ended up like a wearable hat 🙏 I'd say the yarn was 3.5 or 4, sorry I can't be more precise it's been 8 months lol and I'm not the most disciplined when it comes to crochet 🥸 thank you for your video tho as I couldn't have done any of it without you! 💫
