I used to work security at the old Boston Garden. That connection got me and two friends a spot dead center in front of the first row. This song was the opener when we were walking to the front. Never been that close since.
There are some folks out there who don't think The Kinks are the greatest band ever to come out of the British Isles. Those folks... those folks would be wrong. Don't listen to them. One last album before you hang up the guitars please Ray and Dave... and when this Covid shit dies down, one last tour, You know you want to.
Having been a fan at age 15 in 1964 of the British Invasion from the get go - in the beginning it was Beatles, Stones, never the Who....then around 1968 it was the Beatles and the Kinks, Stones to me were & are still a great rock n roll band but the Kinks are better...they took chances with their music, ray didn't write songs to be hits anymore, he wrote songs for the love of writing songs...a true artist....God Save The Kinks. This song should have been a MASSIVE HIT but its the Kinks and they always seem to get over looked.
Saw the Kinks twice in the 80's -- opened with Around the Dial both times and it blew us all away. Great song to open a concert with --- but I can't see it being a hit. The album version is ok. Some live versions are punk, new wave or just straight forward rock. I swear they just reel off a hot rock to open up -- but it doesn't stick to vinyl.
DJ Jim Ladd just passed away. Tom Petty was inspired by Ladd's uncompromising ethic to play what he wanted and wrote his song The Last DJ as a result! Ladd used to crank this tune up while lamenting corporate rock radio!
One of many favorite bands of all time. I hope they are still rocking somewhere. Thankyou Kinks. RICARDO ELIZALDE from Colorful COLORADO.. Care for Humanity. Please where your mask.
I love the Kinks. But face diapers are useless, and only easily manipulated followers like yourself of fascist politicians and unelected, paid off bureaucratic hacks, encourage or force others to wear them, while foolishly cutting off 15% of their oxygen supply in the process.
they showed the stones who zep etc that in the age of new sound gear and big shows they were a kick ass live act saw them 3 times myself two arena shoes and a theatre style show
The Stones had set the mark for the Second Waves comebacks with "Tattoo You" and the Davies boys thought they could do better. They slam dunked it with this album. It was considered more cool than the Stones and slightly punk. Great days of early 80's.
This album changed my life and was fortunate to see this tour, this is the only band from the Great British Invasion bands to absolutely fucking kill it all through the eighties, fuck off everything the stones did sucked and y’all know it!
KMET 99.7 KLOS 99.5 Los Angeles. Jim Ladd. Man I miss the 70s and early 80s. And Davies.
