Darn magpies! They are cousins to crows, and behave much the same. Those wild strawberries look delicious- I’ve only ever had cultivated ones. Your garden is doing great! Growing up we had like 50chickens for eggs, and around 50 - 100 for custom broilers to sell to neigbors. The coop had 5 huge runs surrounding it to rotate them around in so they could run around a lot. And each run had a mulberry tree in the center for shade. Which once over ripe mulberries fell they'd eat them turning the poop purple. 😁 It was really nice to have, but the worst memory of it was cleaning the coop out every other year with that many. We'd have baskets and baskets of eggs to sell. Eventually we stopped the custom broilers and stopped selling eggs (most people bought store eggs), so it was reduced to about 15 chickens for eggs and we removed all but 2 of the runs. The old runs were turned into veg gardens. Well fertilized soil.
Oh that sounds amazing! I can imagine them loving the mulberries, my chickens have just feasted on almost all of my unripe blueberries on one of my bushes 😂

I thought you only had hens and I was under the impression (probably wrongly as I have never kept chickens just going on what I have seen on other channels I watch who keep and kind of breed their chickens) that you had to have a rooster to fertilize the eggs to hatch baby chickens? Love the additions to you chicken coop 😊
I think that you ought to consider the possibility of a tree being downed by a storm or strong winds during bad weather. This could happen and end up destroying their shelter or worse. I would look into constructing a second emergency type shelter for them in the event something happens to this one.

I have magpies and my box for laying eggs is closed. I can open the roof... It hangs at the side of a small chicken house that stands in the coup. I lick them in at night because fox and marters are here...

She bought fertilised eggs to put under the hen. You do need a rooster otherwise 😬

The are Orpingtons, very calm breed 💛
How will you care for them in the dead of winter? Will they not suffer if it's too cold for them out there?
The breed should be able to handle a few minus degrees, if they seem to summer I'll get a heat lamp 💛 (the house is insulated..)
