To all you saying this was a fluke play or that he was lucky - you're wrong. Wilson makes plays out of nothing like this routinely. This isn't something he's never done before. Those who doubt that he makes that same play twice have obviously not seen Wilson play much.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I watched him for three years at NC State, and the man works magic. You think he's down and out, and he makes a magical play to keep the game alive. A truly epic quarterback
Wilson Just made a player that is even more ridiculous than this one today and people are still calling his abilities to scramble, pass on the run and find his target a fluke.
When Sharrif Floyd says: "Say what to Blair? It's not his fault we lost" it made me feel so much better, after reading all the crap Blair Walsh got on social media. Comradery at its finest.
+ssvoogel damn right. He scored all 9 of their points and people rip him to shreds. its a 60 minute TEAM game. He did miss an easy one, but he's not the reason they lost.
+Stephen Moreton You are correct except about the kick being easy. In those conditions, there was a lot that could have gone wrong, and only one thing that can go right. Any other time, yes that would have been easy. Walsh was the best player on that team that day. It was AP that lost the game.
+ssvoogel I'm a lifelong Seahawks fan and I am glad the kick was no good, but as a football fan, I felt bad for Blair. His reaction right after he missed. That feeling that he let his teammates and Vikings fans down. Then I see Sharrif's interview, what he said about a team effort and he was a brother...man..damn allergies!
+ssvoogel As a Seahawks fan, this made me happy to see him stand up for his team. There's more than one play that wins or loses a game and Sharrif certainly states that.
man both of these teams, really treat each other like brothers. From Baldwin motivating Russell about them following him into darkness, to the Vikings taking responsibility as a team for that loss. I respect both teams and hope they have much future success
+Duke OfOmnium - crap r u kidding?? on a fluke play - that was sheer luck - and what the pisser of that fluke play you couldn't score for the first 3 qtrs and we were on our way to a shut out!!! - FLUCKS WON'T GET YOU GUYS FAR - your team was good for a couple yrs but your not now - hope to see you go to az - but that would be crappy cause you would get blown out again!!
LMAO @ Vikeir - You can call it a fluke, but anyone that actually follows Wilson knows he has the composure, skill, and athletic gifts to make something out of nothing. Based on your use of "we" (as in "we were on our way to a shut out"), you must be a Viking fan. And yes, the D did shut Seattle out for 3 quarters, but NFL games are 4 quarters long. Can you remind me what the score of the 4th Quarter was? Oh yeah - 10-0 Seattle... which beats the 9-0 edge Minnesota had. As your own player (S. Floyd) says "You can't lose a game on a missed field goal if you don't have the lead". And if Seattle isn't good now, what does that make the Vikings, who are 0-2 this season against a "not good" team. It wasn't a fluke that kept your Vikings out of the End Zone all 4 quarters, nor was it a fluke that Adrian Peterson averaged 2 yards a carry and had a crucial fumble. As for Arizona blowing Seattle out (which obviously means you think a Not Good Seattle team will beat the Panthers, and Arizona will beat GB this weekend) - Arizona had to rally to beat Seattle by 7 in Week 10. Seattle walloped Arizona 38-7 in Week 17. The idiocy and inaccuracy of your posts pretty much show you to be a troll that can't cope with the fact the better TEAM won. But there is definitely a seat on the Seahawk Hater Bandwagon for you....
Seahawks fan here with mad respect for the Vikings. Sticking by their team mate like that and not blaming him for losing the game. It's a TEAM effort. Thank you Vikings for being awesome.
There is no QB in the history of the NFL that makes this play other than Russell Wilson. The key thing about this play is how poised he stayed from the time he ran to the ball until when he dropped that pass to Lockett. NEVER SAW HIM SWEAT!!
i would say one of the best comeback plays of the year! but im a hawks fan and i watch russ do this week after week! great plays are born when they aren't ment to be! go hawks!
I agree. He was so close to claiming number 2 in just his 3rd year. He should have 2 maybe 3 SBs under his belt but I'm still ok with one. It doesn't define how great he has been and will be.
Blair gave the Vikings all their points. If you can't score a touchdown you have bigger problems than 3/4 on FG attempts. Same goes for holding on to the ball.
Amen!!...I hate it when teammates blame and bash their kicker!!..Floyd is absolutely right!!...if every reciever could have caught the pass, running backs don't ever fumble, centers didn't make bad snaps, linemen didn't block their guy, and the quarterback throws a pick...the whole team would never need to depend solely on their kicker....about time a true teammate understood the importance of true teamwork....well said Floyd and I forever respect you for standing by a wounded brother!!!....
+Patrick Moore He said "It's not his fault we lost" But yeah I feel for the Vikings, in everyway he's right, football is a team effort. The kicker made all the points for them so if anything he was the only one trying to win.
Shariff Floyd's answer was so awesome. He's right it was not Blair's fault. Football is a team sport so they shouldn't blame Blair. Nice season, Vikings!! -Pittsburgh fan
Not going to lie, when I was actually watching the game I was fully expecting the Vikings to make that FG and then having to pray that Russell would be able to pull off a huge last-second Hail Mary TD.
People say a pocket passer is better than a mobile qb smh. Remember XLVIII? the faulty snap happened to the Broncos too and Manning just froze, Wilson had the speed and reaction time to run back and pick up the ball and all with enough time to throw it.
Why does no one ever comment on the high tackle on Lockett at the end of the play? Any other team and the "color commentators" would have been all over it. Seattle never seems to get that level of "respect".
+Kathleen Linscott A horse collar tackle is when you pull the jersey or shoulder pads at the back of the neck towards the ground. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cf/Bailey_Johnson_is_called_for_a_horse_collar_tackle_mod.jpg/350px-Bailey_Johnson_is_called_for_a_horse_collar_tackle_mod.jpg
Sharrif Floyd - true sportsman and teammate. That was a classy move in that moment. Coming from a Hawks fan, we got to see firsthand just how Walsh CAN cost games, so I would have totoally understood if he had ripped into him in that interview. But he didn't, and that's why he's better suited to play this sport than I ever would be. lol
Where There's Wilson There's a way and that is so true he can make magic happen in Seattle and What Doug Baldwin said was true "Lead us Through Darkness we'll follow"
This is even crazier now, in the cold Wilson. First of all has anyone thrown an NFL football in the cold? It's hard, it's like you're picking up a dry rock and he throws a perfect spiral to Lockett who catches it, which is even harder.
The whole story with Blair Walsh's miss was how Richard Sherman jumped the snap on Walsh's previous kick -- and came within a fingernail of blocking it -- then faked his rush on the final attempt. Walsh had to assume Sherman was coming after him again, but it was only a ghost in the end.
Pete Carrol “Yeah that play where the ball bounces off him wasn’t a designed play” LoL! As a side note. I don’t think Seahawk fans understand how LUCKY we were that Paul Allen bought this team!!! My goodness. Holmgren Era/Hasselback era, and now the Schneider/Carrol/Wilson era. But especially the current combination. We are living the Dream Seahawk fans!!
Props to shariff Floyd for saying that about Walsh while the coach just came out and blamed the whole thing on him not even mentioning how AP dropped the ball (to be fair it was Kam) and was out rushed by Michael
I love how at 3:50 when they're talking about how none of the linemen went beyond the line of scrimmage, they clearly show how one of them ( I think the left tackle) went like 2 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Way to illustrate exactly the opposite of the point they're trying to make.
+skyzefawlun LOS is the 39, he gets to maybe the 37.5. Maybe because he is off to the left it changes perspective, but if you pause it I really don't think he even gets to the 37 and even then he's turning back around. He releases his block at the 39 and takes one big step and is then turning back around. The narrator actually never says 'not beyond the line' at all. Collinsworth just says 'none go downfield'. In conclusion this was a pretty silly point to try to make.
+skyzefawlun There is about two yards of leeway to give the refs some perspective to make the call in the first place, and Okung just slipped off the block anyway. It's not like he took off downfield to appear as an eligible receiver. The same thing happened last year in the NFCCG when Unger stepped up to make a block on a play that was supposed to be a read-option, but Wilson saw the CB cheat up for it and fired over to a wide-open Lockette.
+skyzefawlun They will never call it if they are in the process of trying to block other players around the line of scrimmage, which he was. Just like if you block your guy and he falls backwards - that is not considered blocking downfield.
+skyzefawlun He was coming off a block that he started at the line of scrimmage. When the defensive player went past him, he started going back. That's a legal play. If he'd kept going forward, it would have ineligible downfield.
I'm a Bears fan but I respect the Vikings they're a great young team and it'll be hard trying to win a division if the Packers and Vikings are both in it. Maybe even the Lions if they can return to their 2014 form.
"Had some time?" I don't know about you guys but Wilson had time to fix his mouth piece first before he slid for the football. Ball snap mouth piece is not quite in his mouth, he turns around ran and while in the process of running for the ball he had time to fix his mouth piece, slide for the ball, picks it up and threw it. Russell Wilson is something special. He is a HOMEBOY. I'm from Richmond, Va. and watched him in high school and college.
I just got chills...man...the playoffs are so emotionally draining...
Hell yea you right
Fantastic article showing both sides. Great stuff from Baldwin encouraging Wilson to Sharrif Floyd to the breakdown of the play!
+rychendroll I thought that was great, too. Baldwin leading Wilson into leading the team.
