You seemed to have a missed a comparison with every other "super shoe" that has come from out from other brands in the last few years. Not getting me very excited if it might be comparable with a Brooks shoe.

I could run in basketball shoes like back in the day if I had to but running shoes just really help especially since I’m all concrete.
@@DriveandThrive If you're a beginner you really don't need 3 pairs of shoes. There are a few daily trainers that can be your every day shoe for all of your runs (Novablast 3, Rebel V3).

I thought your evaluation of the new Hoka model was excellent, both in terms of details and the feeling of running. Particularly this final comparison with models that you think are similar or complementary was even more special. Oh, i love floppy (soft) heel cups. Can´t wait to get my hands on it, not that i´m running half-marathons on full-marathons but would like to try it during my 10 k run.
By mentioning the brooks and altra shoes , basically you’re subtly saying that the the rocket x2 is still a second tier super shoe , heck i think its a reach to even call it a supershoe .
I guess we all agree it certainly looks nice--beautiful colors! For Brooks naysayers, don’t discount the Hyperion Max. The Hyperion Tempo has been a phenomenal shoe and I think the Max is even better. They are race-worthy at least up to HM for those who don’t get along with carbon plates or super soft high stack max cushion. For me either one has a place in a rotation at the very least, provided you don’t mind experiencing some ground feel (not a bad idea for your biomechanics at least some of the time). The midsoles are on the firmer side of the spectrum at first but really open up and are a load of fun doing speed-work or just faster miles in general. They perform well at any pace and I believe having a very diverse rotation of shoes has kept me uninjured.
It was long overdue for HOKA to switch to PEBA for performance/racing shoes. It is a good updated for Rocket X2. If one is into low drop shoes, this could be a good option. Hopefully they will release Carbon X3 with PEBA foam as well. Ultimately, they will need a training shoe similar to Endorphin Speed with PEBA foam as well.
Interesting! I was buying Hoka shoes for a few years and really enjoyed running in the original Rocket X (enough to have 2 pairs of them) but wouldn’t claim they made the slightest difference to my running even with the plate. Since then I’ve switched back to Adidas (always used to buy Adidas prior to my Hoka spell) and as good as the Rocket X2 looks, I don’t think it’s going to tear me away from my Adios Pro 3 and Prime X Strung duo that I’m liking a lot. Hoka needed to release these 6 months ago
I ran in the Rocket X all last year and it is nowhere near as good as the Adios Pro. I think the review is right on. Good shoe but nowhere near comfortable enough for a marathon compared to all the super shoes in the market

I'm a Hoka guy the last four plus years, but am considering other options. I'm an older runner(65), and would like a racer with some cushion to it for 5K, 10K, and half marathon distance. Your saying the foam is denser, makes me think twice about trying this shoe, especially at $250. I have the Rocket X, and while it's super light, my legs and feet take a beating in it. Maybe racing in Mach5's is the way to go , at least for me.
I'm a similar age to you but I wouldn't recommend the Mach 5 if you're after cushion. I much prefer the Rincon which is far more cushioned than the Mach, v.light and stable. I find the Mach 5 far too firm underfoot for my liking.
If you’re mostly racing 5K, 10K and HM max, as. 71 yr old female I highly recommend the adidas Takumi Sen 8, now discounted since v9 has been released. Even at full price it’s a great value. Someone light weight like myself could easily do a HM in them. I only use them for races after having tested them first of course. If it’s not enough shoe for HM, get v8 for the shorter races (v9 is almost identical according to all reviews) and consider the Saucony Endorphin Pro3 for HM if you can find a colorway that’s discounted. Some people claim they already have found it discounted here and there. It’s the first carbon plated race shoe that I’m going to be using on a marathon. It’s very bouncy and cushioned and people are using it for all distances. Try it on in a local running store. I think the original Hoka Rocket X has the most fluid feel at marathon pace of any shoe. But, one run on winter road , with small gravel they lay out here on ice , completely destroyed the foam part of the outsole. And small stones and sand get stuck into the sole, right up to the carbon plate. Was wondering my shoe had manufacturing fault. So destroyed after 2-3 runs.
Thanks for the review. This April I'm going to run my first full marathon. I have Mach 4 and Clifton 8 what shoes to use for this run. In 2022 I ran 2 half marathons in Clifton 8. Preliminary time for 42K 3h50m.
Had great step in feel and bouncy and cushy but these shoes aren’t for me I think. Gives me cuboid pain on both my feet, not sure why and outsole wearing out super quick on me. I realize they are race shoes but I can’t see them lasting even a marathon for me. I see too much visible wear on the outsole in less than 15 miles. Probably something personal with my feet, but these disappointed me because they initially felt so good putting them on, but later also felt sluggish for me more than likely because I’m used to 8-10mm drop in most of my other shoes. I’ll reserve these for tempo days and I don’t think the outsole will last one month for me - and then I’ll end up throwing them out. Also had Clifton 9’s which also had outsoles that died on me super prematurely; threw those out a couple days ago as well after less than 30 miles. I think this was my last Hoka purchase. French company - Hoka indeed feels like the Renaults of running shoes, imao. Oh well…
What’s discouraging is that $250 is probably too much for this shoe, but Hoka from what I’ve seen rarely discounts shoes unless the next version is coming soon. Clifton 8’s only just recently went on sale due to 9’s coming soon despite it being out for a long time.
you've been very helpful with my purchasing decisions. if you ever run out of content ideas and have the time, could you possibly do a video ranking which shoe is the most durable.
Well I have Hoka Mach 5 as my daily trainer and bondi 8 for recovery days. I kind of want the rocket x2 just for my half marathon race just to stay in the hoka family
Hey Ko. Between shoes like the Rocket X2, NB SC Elite v3, Endorphin Pro 3, Speed 3 and Adios Pro 3-which do you think would be the "friendliest" and most stable for a first half marathon and marathon? Or put simply: which is the more beginner-friendly superfoam racer? Great video as always.
My first and only pair of hokas was the Clifton 7. Although I got them to 150 miles, I never really loved it. Ended up keeping the ortholite insoles and giving the shoes away to a homeless person with no shoes
I just got my pair in the same colourway, and I'm having quite a different experience from you. I'm wondering if the PEBA is temperature sensitive, it feels pretty soft.
nike doesn't send me anything, so I had to wait for it to go on sale. I ordered it right away, and for whatever reason, it won't arrive for two weeks 🤷🏻♂️
Very nice review. But Oh the dreaded term”influencer” (used to laugh about people being influenced about anything until I glanced at my shoe collection). I do believe you’re the first to do so.
I've been looking for your review on Nike Tempo Next%, can you share that one? I couldn't find in your videos. This thing is great for speed session I guess, and it's on great sale at this moment. ✌
Would you recommend just to get OG Rocket X, and wait for this one to be on sale next year? I have some daily trainers and looking for a speedy shoe. Thanks for your reviews!

Hello, I loved your video. If anyone can suggest a shoe under $100 or close it $100 for half marathon, it would be helpful. Started running last year's September. I already ran a 7.5k and 2 half marathons, I used Reebok lite 2 and Puma Transport Modern running shoes. Sadly, I hurt myself in the half marathons. So, I want to upgrade my shoes but do not want to spend much as of now as I am still new.
yea but i don't get why some of these vloggers say that its not really a marathon shoe and say its more for half marathons, but they don't say why. this shoe seems like it hits all the check marks
Completely disagree with the comparison to the adidas adizero SL - RX2 is a full peba midsole with a plate. The midsole feels much more like adidas pro 2.
I would suggest rewatching the video a bit more carefully. The Adizero SL suggestion very clearly comes in the section of the video where I suggest shoes that would pair well with the Rocket X2. It is not proffered as a competitor or alternative
part of me agrees with this statement, but I try to remember that not everyone likes the same kind of shoes that I do. any time I talk negatively about the Rocket X or the Carbon X, I hear from runners for whom the shoes have worked very well.
@@kofuzi yeah it’s a hard no for me. Sorry Hoka. EVO speedgoat is the best trail shoe ever made in my opinion. Carbon x2 I enjoyed for very long road runs but most of the other shoes are rubbish
Sorry, @kofuzi , but this review is not very useful or valuable if you don’t compare the shoe against Adios Pro 3, Endorphin Pro 3, Vaporfly etc. If it can’t compare with those - than just say it.

What’s discouraging is that $250 is probably too much for this shoe, but Hoka from what I’ve seen rarely discounts shoes unless the next version is coming soon. Clifton 8’s only just recently went on sale due to 9’s coming soon despite it being out for a long time.
Why would Hoka price a top tier carbon plated racer below what their competitors are pricing theirs at?
I find hoka shoes on discount all the time, as long as you look at retailers, not their own website!
you've been very helpful with my purchasing decisions. if you ever run out of content ideas and have the time, could you possibly do a video ranking which shoe is the most durable.
I typically only run to 100 miles in any shoe, so I no longer have a lot of empirical evidence to draw from
@@kofuzi gotcha, thanks
Random question. But at one point after your 4:48 Marathon did you decide to just start training for sub 3? Love the content!! Inspiring!
I understand the concern of it being a little denser for a marathon, but people used to run in basically bricks for marathons so it’s def a marathon
Surprised the mach 5 didn't make the cut for pairing with the rocket X2, do you prefer the Rincon 3 over the Mach 5?
Well I have Hoka Mach 5 as my daily trainer and bondi 8 for recovery days. I kind of want the rocket x2 just for my half marathon race just to stay in the hoka family
that would be a solid trio
Midsole description sounds much like the OG Endorphin Pro. Not my cup of tea but great looking shoe from Hoka.
He said it felt stable. Pro 1 wasn’t stable
@@paddywiggle def wider/stable in Hoka but midsole cushion/ride sounds very similar.
I think that's a pretty good comparison, although I think the Rocket X2 may a bit more forgiving for the full marathon distance.
Their colorways are dope asf
I would say NB SC v3
I’d recommend the Endorphin Pro 3. It’s soft and fast but more stable than most other max cushion racing shoes
I'd go with the sc elite 3
@@kofuzi thanks!
My first and only pair of hokas was the Clifton 7. Although I got them to 150 miles, I never really loved it. Ended up keeping the ortholite insoles and giving the shoes away to a homeless person with no shoes
he probably would have appreciated the insoles
Is this available in wide?
A bit surprised they didn't go closer to the 40mm stack limit...🤔
I just got my pair in the same colourway, and I'm having quite a different experience from you. I'm wondering if the PEBA is temperature sensitive, it feels pretty soft.
These days?
For me, train in Hoka, race in Nike. Unless it's a trail race. Cheers
Yes !
Michael, any idea about New Balance 1080 v13? No one talk about it.
Are you going to review the invincible run 3?
nike doesn't send me anything, so I had to wait for it to go on sale. I ordered it right away, and for whatever reason, it won't arrive for two weeks 🤷🏻♂️
Great! When is the shoe available? Spring / Summer?
Any word on your Tokyo meetup shakeout run?
Ok, absolutely random question for you: what brand is the silicone ring? I like the colour, figuring I can match some to my shoes.
Very nice review. But Oh the dreaded term”influencer” (used to laugh about people being influenced about anything until I glanced at my shoe collection). I do believe you’re the first to do so.
it has a lot of negative connotations, but it's how I introduce myself to people these days. it's a useful albeit flawed shorthand. 🤷🏻♂️
I've been looking for your review on Nike Tempo Next%, can you share that one? I couldn't find in your videos. This thing is great for speed session I guess, and it's on great sale at this moment. ✌
I did not review that shoe
solid overview…, not for me.., I think. This being says I have considered the vanish carbon
Would you recommend just to get OG Rocket X, and wait for this one to be on sale next year? I have some daily trainers and looking for a speedy shoe. Thanks for your reviews!
This reminds me of the zoom fly SP. I still run in that shoe if that tells you how I feel.
hmmm. that's a pretty good comparison, although it's been a while since I've run in the Zoom Fly SP. I wonder how much nostalgia would be coloring that comparison for me
Yikes, $250 is crazy. Adios Pro 3 can be found at $150 on sale and Alphafly / Vaporfly at sub $200.
HI
How would these compare to the metaspeed sky + - seem pretty similar ? Thanks !
I would not consider them similar
@@kofuzi interesting .. thanks - from reviewers both seem lower drop, rockered race options - haven’t tried on the metaspeed sky plus yet … hope to next week
I'm sure you've stated this elsewhere, Kofuzi, but what's your pick for favorite marathon racer with the squish and deflection you like?
endorphin elite is a great example. I'm also a huge fan of the metaspeed sky plus. I've hit several PBs in that shoe
Do u know if these will come in a wide fit?
hey bro, can i use it for my weekend long run, i mean one a week for about 15 km or half marathon
It’s a shoe for racing or workouts. If you weekend long run is mostly easy effort, it’s probably not the first shoe I’d recommend
Wo kann ich die Schuhe kaufen
Hoka.com
u got heel slip on Rocketx 2 ?
So this is still a ground feel type shoe?
Would these be good for an all out 2 mile race/ time trial??
I wouldn't buy them specifically for that purpose. but if I already had them and then had a 2 mile race put on my calendar, I also wouldn't feel like I absolutely needed to go out and get another race shoe.
@@kofuzi thanks for the quick reply. If you had a choice of any shoe on the market for a 2 miler, which would you pick for maximum speed for that short of a duration ?? Thanks
The Hoka Rocket X 2 looks almost identical to the Nike Zoom Fly SP.
So when you say it was a very hot day in Miami, what was the temperature like ?
Not quite as hot as it was for NYC Marathon this year, but hot enough for me considering the 6am start. Great for spectators, not great for racing
I’ve been training for my marathon in the mach 5s, which hoka for marathon race day?
if you want to stay with Hoka, the Rocket X2 is a good option. Otherwise, I'd also consider Endorphin Pro 3, SC Elite 3, or Metaspeed Sky Plus
Adios Pro 3 or this one
Could this finally be the carbon plated shoe for flat foot runners who immediately feel pain when trying any other carbon plated shoes? Anyone else have that problem?
Hello, I loved your video. If anyone can suggest a shoe under $100 or close it $100 for half marathon, it would be helpful. Started running last year's September. I already ran a 7.5k and 2 half marathons, I used Reebok lite 2 and Puma Transport Modern running shoes. Sadly, I hurt myself in the half marathons. So, I want to upgrade my shoes but do not want to spend much as of now as I am still new.
A discounted Clifton 8?
yea but i don't get why some of these vloggers say that its not really a marathon shoe and say its more for half marathons, but they don't say why. this shoe seems like it hits all the check marks
Then I think you will like it for whichever distance your checklist contemplates. Happy running!
@@kofuzi how come u wouldn’t recommend this for a full marathon?
@Animejook rewatch the video he answers this question.
مرحبا كيف الحال اي فراغ في أرضية الحذاء من تحت تشكل مشكلة نفسية للعداء ممكن ان تجمع الحصى فيها
Is Hoka just locked into firmer as a philosophy?
Thanks for the review. What about the cusioning? Is more of the firmer side?
Completely disagree with the comparison to the adidas adizero SL - RX2 is a full peba midsole with a plate. The midsole feels much more like adidas pro 2.
I would suggest rewatching the video a bit more carefully. The Adizero SL suggestion very clearly comes in the section of the video where I suggest shoes that would pair well with the Rocket X2. It is not proffered as a competitor or alternative
Oh totally missed the “rotation build” comment - yes, agreed! My bad.
mantappp🎉
I could be wrong but I think the only people buying this shoe are the hard-core Hoka fans. Too many other great options to choose from.
part of me agrees with this statement, but I try to remember that not everyone likes the same kind of shoes that I do. any time I talk negatively about the Rocket X or the Carbon X, I hear from runners for whom the shoes have worked very well.
🔥🔥🔥
2 oz heavier than a VF? That’s almost embarrassing

@@kofuzi yeah it’s a hard no for me. Sorry Hoka. EVO speedgoat is the best trail shoe ever made in my opinion. Carbon x2 I enjoyed for very long road runs but most of the other shoes are rubbish
Should have said “Hope-ka” 😂
Clerance shoes 2022 like adidas boston 11 $59 , adios 7 $40, ADISTAR $50 SKECHERS speed& razors $59 , Asics magic speed, novablast, nike fly and fly something $69, and even posser brand HOKAS $69-79 Rei , ill pass thank you

Sorry, @kofuzi , but this review is not very useful or valuable if you don’t compare the shoe against Adios Pro 3, Endorphin Pro 3, Vaporfly etc. If it can’t compare with those - than just say it.
I'm sorry this review did not live up to your expectations. can you provide a link to a more satisfactory video so I may learn?
@@kofuzi You're the best youtuber to explain the feeling and sensation a running shoe can provide - no need for me to point you to other videos. However this review of Rocket X2 would be more useful if you compared it with the other marathon racing shoes, which you do already have extensive experience with.
HOKA'S seem to be designed to last max 300 miles.
What are you talking about? I have Rincon 3 on 650km, Carbon X2 on 550km, Clifton 8 on 600 km. All of them are still going strong.
@@piotr8582 depends on how much you weigh to be honest. My Clifton 8s were pretty dead at 400 miles.
My Bondis are knocking on 500’s door. I’m currently well over 200#s.
You say that like it’s a low number.
@@kofuzi for the number they ask? I’m looking for a long term relationship! 😂 just a few years ago we all enjoyed the 130-150 tops shoes… now we’re about doubling that. Hard to imagine but at the same time not. It’s the reality we live with these days. So far Hokas and a few New Balance models have been the brands that provide me with longevity vs price.
Who’s here in 2024 to check if we can grab Rocket X2 in discount
Who’s buying your Hoka’s? Mom and Dad! Grow up and buy your own shoes. First, get a job or two! Good afternoon!
you mad bro?
I keep reading this original comment in the voice of Frank Costanza
