I'm closing in on 58 and hoping to PB in all my race distances. I started running 12 years ago. I know age will catch up to me at some point but not giving up yet.
Im 36 years old. Drive a trash truck for work. Up at 3:30am 5 to 6 days a week. I feel like my PR days are over as well. Work has me beat at the end of my shift. Just started taking my run clothes to work with me and started knocking out 4-5 mile runs 3X a week. Trying to work my way back to at least 7-10 mile runs. Lets work!
Trying Runna too and enjoying it. To create a plan, they have 4 different levels for self-classifying: beginner, intermediate, advanced, elite. Based on the descriptions, I thought I was somewhere between intermediate and advanced, and since I wanted to be challenged, I chose advanced. The workouts were killing me, so I switched to intermediate, and now they are challenging but achievable. All that to say self-perception ISN’T reality! : )
I trained with Runna for my first Race ever, a Halfmarathon. Was able to smash a 1:52:13 after a half year of running. Was pretty impressed, so I'm now training with Runna for my first Marathon. Can also absolutely recommend their App and trainingsplans
Thanks for taking back to McHenry County. I started my running journey there, so I recognize many of the spots you run along. I was there about a month ago and did the Glacier trail and the city of McHenrys bike trail. Brought back a lot of memories. I am doing some half marathon work and i appreciate your level of work towards the event
Im 40 and Tommy Hughes is my inspiration. In his 60s running a 2hr 30 ish marathon. Unless your were a super elite in your younger days PRs wont stop coming.
Great time for the 800m repeats. I also do that workout on the track, but averaging way more than that, around 3:45. I'm training for a half in February as well. Best of luck!
Yep, I love Runna. I'm nearly 60 & it's got me running lifetime PBs. Seriously. It pushes me hard then gives me a de-load week before ramping it up again. I've never been fitter in my life & I've been running since 1978. And if you hit or miss your goals consistently it'll tweak your program to keep you honest. Along with the Cloudeclipse & Adios Pro 4 it's in my Top 3 things I love about running right now. I'm excited to do workouts again!!!
Hahaha. Quality work. Yeah I've run a lot of years but the vast majority of it was without a watch - simply running for the joy of it. There's nowhere better than on a run to get yourself together.
EEEEEKKKKKKKK! I love love love your training videos! Sure you’re 45, but I don’t think you’re finished PR’ing - just gotta train differently. Thanks for sharing this with us.
BTW, I love the style of this video. You do a great job explaining the details, the story, and all. Might adopt something for my channel... Hmm! Keep inspiring Mike!
Everything is looking good so far, I see the training doing good things. Wanted to eat you know if you read this, I ran CIM last weekend and got to say it's an experience and would like to do it again if my job give me more hours. At first thought of quiting all together race day due to a side cramp but after some warm ups and icy hot, I managed to race and ran ok. Not a BQ but finished the race under 3:30 which was my goal for CIM. Thanks again for motivating me along with Eric Floberg, you both are inspiration and hope to meet you both in person
I’m using a Ben Parkes training plan for my first half marathon in February. The Runna app seems tough. Your running looks great Ko. Although, as a Southerner, I do not like running in the cold. 🥶 Give me heat over cold. 🥵🏃🏻♀️👟
So glad you’re coming to Houston. Hoping to get a chance to see you. I’ve finally reached the Legacy status(i’ve run 10 Houston marathons) so looking forward to a few perks😂😂
Sounds like RUNNA is working well Mike. Calum (My Son) has started using the app and he is making very good progress with it. Good to hear your running is going well. Take care.
Currently working through Runna's very ambitious initial guesses for my upcoming marathon. Curious to see what will happen in the coming weeks as some of the paces look wildly impossible for my current fitness. Watching this video definitely helped me feel a bit better about that. (Less failure, more Runna seeing what your limits are.)
Runna is super accurate from my experience, I raced my first half marathon in December 1st and it predicted that I was in 1:35:00 shape. I clocked in at 1:34:33. I highly recommend it to all runners.
I love the gopro mic. It is so high quality that i decided to save money by using my 2nd gopro as a mic instead of purchasing one. I also like the simplicity - no attachments or physical plug-ins.
Were you using the GoPro as a handheld microphone? Lol Been training for Tokyo Marathon for the last 4ish weeks using a free training plan and haven't found it very challenging, I've been adding miles on top of scheduled runs and running on "rest days" to feel more engaged. Saw this video and decided to give Runna a try (the app has just been sitting on my phone for months). The plan it built for me was immediately apparently more challenging. Took what was a 15km easy run on my old plan today and upgraded me to an 18km run with the last 8km at goal pace. WOW! Wish there was an option for 6-7 day weeks, but all the other plan customization/building options are great. I think I'll be sticking with Runna for the rest of this block, thanks for the review, even if it is sponsored content.
The nice thing about starting running late is not having decades of wear and a history of injuries to contend with. I began at 50 and still hitting PRs at 58, nothing spectacular (sub 2hr half, 6:25 mile) but pretty sure I’ll beat those times in ‘25.
I tried Runna about a year ago. It had me down for workouts that were a full minute/mile or more faster than I had ever run any repeat ever. I know that it can be adjusted. I just didn't understand what algorithms it was using to come up with this plan. Far too ambitious.
So glad to see you training again. Does the Runna app sync to your watch? Does it push the workouts to the watch , or do you need to manually create all of those workouts?
It pushes to my Garmin super easy. Even when I change the order of workouts days and easy days, the changes auto update on the watch. I was quite impressed about this.
I’m also using Runna for Houston (full) and those K200s kick my ass too. I generally feel much fitter though despite not hitting the top speeds. All we can do is trust the process!
Also I went to the rabbit run shakeout hoping to see you there but didn't see you and was guessing that you didn't had CIM planned on your trips, sadly the shakeout was dead with barely even 10, managed with 6 people at the shakeout. Should've been at the CIM shakeout but at least got to meet one of the leads or ambassador of Rabbit. Good luck going forward in your training, my next marathon is LA, wish me lukc
As you said Runna has been over on our side of the Atlantic for a while , and while I have a personal coach I do belong to one or two running groups and a club. Feedback I have read is similiar to your findings, Runna provides consistant , interesting training but on the higher end of body stress over all. It will be interesting to see how you get on with the more automated metric provision that the App provides as apposed to your experiance with both MAF and later Sage and Sandi's personal coaching .. ( All of it is great , just what fits your life's Jigsaw the best).
Hey mate, you got plenty of time left to lower your PBs (PRs). I ran a sub-85 half and sub-3 marathon at 56, and there are guys way older than me still running much, much faster. You've got this!
I really enjoyed that. I’m relatively new to running properly and was looking at a garmin to use their personalised training for a half marathon I’m doing in March, but this app looks like it might be better/more specific?
Probably better off to follow a plan for all races, based on distance. Self-coached Runner I & II are the best training books I've ever read. Allan Lawrence. The books are also written in Yards.
I like any headlamp that (1) charges via usb (I don't run long enough races that I need the swapability of disposable batteries) and (2) doesn't have an obnoxious logo on the headband.
Love your videos and honesty. Random question. I see you run in half tights a bit. Do you tend to wear compression/athletic underwear underneath or no underwear? 😅 dealing with some chafing with most half tights brands.

I almost thought this was some kind of local weather report 😂 BTW, based on the evolution of what you wore on race day over the years, seems like you have become more cold resistant as you age
What? Noooo. I started running at 42. I obtained my current PR at 50 years of age in Boston 😅 2:48:12 At 45, you still have a long way before you slow down.
Yes, but just as most people don’t get bothered by carrying a handheld after they do it for a while, it doesn’t bother me anymore. I’ve been doing this for every run for seven years
I used Runna for my last marathon, it didn't work for me. It pushed me way too hard, I was exhausted all the time, and I swear I got injured because of it. I think its good, but still needs work.
When you’re at the local Turkey Trot thinking you have a shot at the podium and Kofuzi shows up in a pair of super secret shoes 🤯
Panic button
WHY IS THAT GUY SO BLURRY HE IS SO FAST
So happy to see the return of a week in running video, been missing them from when you used to do videos like that in Chicago in the olden days
It’s something I’ve done before but it’s also something I’m going I can add some new spin to for this round
I'm closing in on 58 and hoping to PB in all my race distances. I started running 12 years ago. I know age will catch up to me at some point but not giving up yet.

I’ve been enjoying my Runna app for close to a year. Got me to a 3:32 PR in Buffalo this past May! Currently in week 8 of 12 Running Maintenance Plan.
I trained with Runna for my first Race ever, a Halfmarathon. Was able to smash a 1:52:13 after a half year of running. Was pretty impressed, so I'm now training with Runna for my first Marathon. Can also absolutely recommend their App and trainingsplans

Great training recap video. You always have good music to accompany your running clips.
Thanks!

way to stick with it! congratulations on a strong finish!
This format was really fun, love it
Thanks!
Tbh runna is a beast of an app. You get amazing workouts and truly geta you in the best shape possible
I've been using the Runna Couch to 5k plan and am running my first ever race in 2 weeks. Great video!!
Good luck for your race!
I have also been using the couch.
Love this new format of video out talking in the back yard!
Thanks! My wife thinks the neighbors are going to see me and think it’s weird. But they already know I’m weird so 🤷🏻♂️
Appreciate the insight on the training app, and look forward to seeing the progress 👍🏼
Stoked that your training block is going well!! Thanks for sharing!
it's been rough, trying to keep up with all the workouts, but it seems to be working
Love this video. It's great to see how you are using the shoes you review in the "moment" of training.
I'm hoping it can give a bit more of a behind the scenes in terms of the testing process
@kofuzi it's great. I have watched it twice.
This format rocks!
thanks!
Daaamn Kofuzi putting in those cold weather reps. I'm going to appreciate my 30 degrees tomorrow.

I felt your coldness at the Turkey Trot from here! Lol. You're killing it with your fitness right now Mike! 🙌

Hey Ko, my 5k pb is 19:01 and my 10k is 40:10 so I know the feeling of those few seconds! Good luck with the HM, will be following you 👍
You should have just run 2 seconds faster at that 5k

Runna trained me for a half this year, and was on the fence about renewing - wanted to just do the Garmin DSW. You’re making me reconsider!
I've also missed this longer video format for a training series. Looking forward to the one about strength training and mobility.
45 years old? My guy Kofuzi looks 35! Keep up the hard work my man 🤘🏼
