    I started running 8 weeks back. Ran my first 5K in 42:24 in October end. I know it's pretty slow for someone jn their mid 20s, but I know I did my best. Aiming for a 10k in April 2024. Will definitely use the carbon plated shoes for that.

      That´s excellent m8! And it's not slow, it's your PB, and it's your mission to improve it! I started running whilst all my mates started mountain biking (couldn't afford a bike), and I was recovering from a major slipped disk (still am)... Hate it and love it at the same time, but the best part is to see those incremental improvements to my physique and time! We each have our own mountains to climb :)

    I’ve rapidly become the world’s slowest runner, though I am now over 70 (loads of competition in 70+ category!). Earlier this year I bought a pair of Hoka Carbon, which I got at half price through my private health insurance. I love them! On the downside they’re harder to put on due to elasticated tongue, and they were initially strange in non running activities, such as gym cross trainer. However, they have two huge benefits. One, running down hill is much more comfortable and confidence inspiring. Two, and probably connected with the first, is that the carbon plate acts as a very subtle cushion assistance, which I assume is what is providing the extra assistance. To be fair I can’t sense myself going any quicker, but I do seem to average better times so probably they are helping.
    As regards distance I’ve used them from 5k park runs to most recently the Málaga half marathon. The latter was the most comfortable half I’ve run in 3-4 years.

    I love the diversity of the runners in this video, in styles and speed! I just started running again since september and training to do a sub 28-minute 5k next month and then a 10 mile race in april. Carbon shoes would come in handy for both races!

    I’ve used a nylon plated shoe for a 5k and a marathon - I honestly didn’t see too much difference for the 5k, but over the marathon it felt like it made a huge difference. I’m seriously considering upgrading to a full carbon plated shoe for next year’s marathons.

    I've used Nike vaporfly 2% in 5km half and full marathon. Only using them in races, find they just help push you along better. I really find my legs the next day are never as heavy after using carbon plated shoes,much quicker recovery

  • @DaveyWalshey
    @DaveyWalshey 10 месяцев назад +11

    For the last 10 weeks I've been training hard. Every now and then I do a 5km park run to gauge my fitness and I typically shave off 10 seconds per week. A few weeks ago I did 18:50 in my Mach 5's, which was already a 30 second (recent) PB. I purchased and wore Vaporfly Next% 3's last weekend and managed a PB of 18:15, knocking 35 seconds off in two weeks! It felt unreal and I could really feel a spring in each step.
    This weekend I'm doing a 10km race in them. My current PB is 41:32 in my Mach 5's. I'll update this when I get my new time!

      @skobodabaws8946 cheers mate! Not long back, managed 40:14 which is insane, but 1km of the route was on mud/grass which robbed me of sub-40. Now own a pair of formerly white vaporflys! 😂

  • @neil1974uk
    @neil1974uk 10 месяцев назад +5

    I think they definitely do make a difference especially in the longer distances. In a 5k the gains are more marginal. I’ve PB’d in both a 10 mile and a marathon in the last few months in pair of Nike Vaporfly 2. They do definitely feel faster and your legs don’t seem to fatigue as much in them. It’s a combination of, not just the plate, but all the foam that they’ve got.

  • @WestNottsRunner
    @WestNottsRunner 10 месяцев назад +16

    At the start I predicted 20 seconds savings over 5k so to a certain extent I was a little sceptical but pleased to see that it actually improves all levels of runners. I'd probably use carbon shoes for a 10k but then throw them in for one or two 5ks as part of the training plan just to be nosey and to see the difference

    I think it's easier/better for me to improve my timing from 29 min 5k to a 25 min 5k by training over a few weeks/months than with a fancy shoe tech. I think I would go for the plated shoes only if I was trying to push into the sub 20-min range.

    • @rendy5092
      @rendy5092 10 месяцев назад +3

      Of course training is the most important, kinda stating the obvious here. Carbon plates won't make you shave of 4 min, only training will. That being said, these shoes can help all runners (not only sub 20) not only be quicker but also be more confident and have a quicker recovery after a race.

    • @ChairmanAntelope

    As my first marathon is coming in April 2024, I'd love to use this pair of shoes for my long run training + on the race day. One of them said that it really helps the runner bounce off from the ground, and that is what I desperately need when I get really tired as I start to stomp very loudly..! Also, I just noticed that Tom is now officially introduced as a 'presenter' not a 'videographer'!! That is super cool:)

    Now I've already done 2 5K races and I'm training for a 10K race that is a tradition in Portugal the "São Silvestre" which happens on the 30th of December, in the night, in the middle of Lisbon, welcoming the new year! IDK if you would send the shoes to Portugal but I would certainly put them to good use at that race and in the many I'm going to attend next year :D

    I am training to complete my first half marathon in early 2024 as a tube-fed runner. For races longer than 5k I have to connect my feeding tube and carry the pump and electrolytes/feeds in a running vest to ensure I can run safely and without compromising my nutrition/hydration. A speedier pair of shoes would help offset the extra weight and movement restriction of the gear I have to carry!

    As someone who has had foot issues during longer runs, a plated shoe has been a game changer. I made the change after a painful 10 miler.
    For me, it’s the difference between running long and ending up with foot pain, or running long with shorter recovery time and no foot pain.
    I researched what shoes would work for me as a heavier runner. I didn’t break the bank, and now have two shoes that work brilliantly for me and exceed my expectations. I’ve completed two 10Ks, a 10-miler and half marathon without feeling traumatised and with numb toes.

    I’m training for my first marathon (Manchester in April) so I’d use the trainers for that 😊 great video as always!!

    I’m running Brighton Marathon next year, considering investing in some carbon shoes but as highlighted in the video it’s the price that puts me off!!!

    They definitely help, I've been racing in nike and saucony carbon plates for the past 2 years now, but my 5k is 15 mins and I think the energy return is much more noticeable when you're running faster with more power output. I've done a few warm ups in them also, and generally find the vaporflys rather clunky at slower paces.
    If I was just starting running and running like 30-22 mins I probably wouldn't recommend them, because they're very expensive and I don't think you will benefit as much compared to just training more and training smarter. Would say they probably start making a difference around the 19-20 minute mark, 4:00/km is around the pace they start to feel ok.

    I love you showing the impact the shoes have for us average runners. I don't think 20-60 seconds off my 5k time would make me want to spend the money on super shoes just yet.
    That said, I'd probably go for a half marathon or a 10k in those. That's the perfect race to go for PBs for me. From everything I hear, they mainly help with preserving energy and keeping you fresh so I wouldn't want to 'waste' them on the super short runs. Plus, half marathons are my favorite distance anyway. And making them even more enjoyable by being able to push for longer would be great.

    Loved this video. I’m trying to get a sub 25 park run. Getting closer but really want to do this before the end of the year. Finally faster than before having kids and want to end the year with a PB 🎉

    I really started to fall in love with the 10k distance preparing for my last half marathon. I'd love to get a before and after with some carbon plated shoes!

    I've got a marathon in March, the Rome marathon. Start my 15 week plan at the start of December. Coming off a summer of trail running, I'm looking forward to picking up some road speed. Which I'm sure these would help with!!

    I run in carbon plated super-shoes for every distance from 5km, 10km, Half and Full marathons. Once you've ond it and felt the difference its almost impossible to go back to racing in "regular" shoes!
    I do think that the benefits increase with distance. For shorter distances there may be a slight increase in pace from the energy return, but by the time your runnign 21.1 or 42.2km, the magic shoes can dramatically reduce fatigue and help you to hold that race pace for longer getting deeper into the race before you start dealing with legs of concrete!

    Nice run! Kudos to the runners. I would use them for several triathlons in olympic and middle distance. Probably also a marathon at the end of the season (perhaps Berlin with some luck 😅)… aiming for sub 3h

    Great that you included a variety of paces in there. I’m still managing to improve my 5k and 10k times with consistency. But it would be tempting to use them for my first half marathon next year 👌

    I'd love to use them for next year's London Marathon, currently doing all my training with one shoe so yeah would be nice to have another shoe in rotation especially for those faster runs, marathon distance it is!

    I've recently grabbed a pair of nylon plates shoes while training for a marathon, and the difference with those compared to normal shoes was definitely noticeable. I'd love to try these in the last half of my training and in the marathon!

    I am new to running and have a half-marathon in a couple of weeks. It's going to be slow, but sub 3 hours is what I am confident I can get. These types of shoes are well beyond what I would even consider purchasing until I get some more experience and some more weight comes off.

    Definitely run a marathon in them. It should hopefully help me get to the elusive sub 3 hours marathon. I'm so near and yet so far.
    Shoes plays a big role in my opinion.

    I’ve started running this year in march! I’m in my 40s never been a runner since school so it’s all new to me and it’s a hobby I love pulled muscles.i have never used a plated shoe, I am however getting tempted with all the hype around them it’s a lot of money to spend on a shoe that may only make minimal impact on my time. I’m in training for a 10k road race in march I’m currently switching between saucony ride 15s and triumph 20s.
    I’d start with a 5k parkrun and see how they perform with my current pb of 25:36. If I beat that time I’d then use them for all my upcoming races, but train in non plated shoes

      I have a couple of daily trainers. Yesterday I bought Saucony Endorphin Pro 3 on a great bargain, tried them today and they feel like I have rockets under my legs. I know that probably some of it is psycological, but the shoes are fire. I will save them for races though and use my other shoes for training.
