    Such a detailed and insightful overview! I ordered my white one 2 days ago. I was a huge Crash and Mario kid. Not only am I going to get to experience games that I used to play, but the more exciting thing is the fact that I’m going to be able to get access to games that I NEVER played before. So that’s something! Whoever made this is a complete mastermind. It’s literally something everyone can have, because like for example, not everyone had an N64 growing up or not everyone had a PS1 growing up, so now this gives people that chance to be able to play those console games they never got to play. Like in my life, I had a Gameboy Advance, NDS and PS2.

      Nice! Let me know which one you like best. I’m really curious if you can notice any slight difference in the feel of the d-pad. I can say the quality feels a little better on the Data Frog for me, but the BOYHOM has the bigger battery. I love them both. Edit* Thank you so much for watching!

    • @smugmode
      @smugmode 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@OGTechNickI wouldn't be surprised if the feel in quality comes down to the plastic used to make the different colors. The l2 sticking on one compared to the other could also just come down to lax manufacturing tolerances. Same with the dpad. Basically what I'm saying is without having 2 or more devices ordered from the same distributor, these little differences could be found regardless who you order from.
      Loosening the dpad screw does make it a lot softer and cutting the arch connecting the X/A and Y/B buttons also helps a lot. Just make sure not to completely trim the arches off or your buttons will start spinning lol
      Also how did you test the battery capacities? I wouldn't trust a label on these devices, even the info on the websites are usually inconsistent on the same page for the same product. +/-15% battery capacity per identical device can also be down to lax manufacturing tolerances.

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yup, that’s the method they chose to use. I’ve never seen a controller or handheld console with buttons like these before. Usually each button has 3 little notches, or on some of the cheaper handhelds all 4 buttons are connected in a sort of swastika shape to prevent them from spinning.
      Joey, from Joey’s Retro Handhelds snipped his apart and said there is still a notch that prevents them from spinning, so I think they might’ve just been made that way in the factory and leaving them be is one less thing to do on the assembly line.
      I honestly don’t mind them enough to open up the console them alone, but that could change with time.

    • @panique365
      @panique365 10 месяцев назад +2

      I heard the buttons are specifically shaped to only be able to fit in one way, preventing them from spinning, and that cutting the connectors doesn’t affect the buttons negatively.

      I tried Golden Eye, and it played, but it was kind of rough. It is very difficult to aim and shoot with the left hand. Remapping should solve that, but also the JoyCon style analog sticks are really sensitive.
      I think they were able to make it run by completely removing the sky in the game. It's crazy but it works. The AMPOWN XU10 did the exact same thing with God of War: Chains of Olympus.

      @@rubio1130 since I’m still learning myself I was afraid to try in the moment but it shouldn’t be too hard, especially if you connect a keyboard. Each button (and analog direction) seems to correspond to a specific keyboard key as well as the icon of the button on the device. It was probably an easy thing to do without a keyboard but I really messed up some mapping recently from one impulsive move and I wanted to test some more games before going straight into troubleshoot mode. I definitely want to make some adjustments, and I plan to, but I’ve just been trying to balance my time. I really just want to map the trigger to R2 instead of L2 for Golden Eye and try playing it again. I’ll let you know if I get it done. Let me know if you get to it first. Appreciate the reply.

    • @OGTechNick
      @OGTechNick  9 месяцев назад

      @rubio1130 Sorry, I misread what you were asking. Yeah, I think it'll be easy. I'll do it soon. Just need to loosen the screws to the motherboard for the dpad to feel better. To make the buttons feel better, snip the arch that attaches them but leave enough to fit in the notch that prevents the buttons from spinning.
      If it's anything like the RG35XX, the most annoying part was reattaching the ribbon cable to the screen, but it just takes a little patience. I really should film a video of me attempting it for the first time. It would give people an idea of what to expect.

      The most important thing to know is that the sd cards they come with are low quality and likely to die on you at some point so if you don’t already have your own set of roms (games) it would be wise to buy a decent quality micro SD card and make a copy of the original so you have a backup. It’s a simple process that requires the use of a free program called Balena Etcher and Win32 Disk Imager to flash the files to the new card properly. Don’t let it deter you. It’s easy and I can walk you though the process. I’ll make a video on it soon.

      I think the white will hold up well. I really like it. The orange stands out the most, but the white feels and looks the best in my hands. The plastic feels pretty nice, too. It's definitely better than the purple one, which I agree kinds does look like a toy. It's more transparent than translucent. I suggest white :)

      As a 90s kid I always wanted a transparent console and never got one. My N64 was grey. Never got a Gameboy. So I ordered the purple clear one. Super excited

      Got be see thru purple. Bought one for £41 on Tiktok shop having bought the cheap £11 Gamepad which find too small and controls no better then original Gameboy.

      There are thousands of games included. If you want to know if any specific games are included I can check the lists and let you know. It takes too much time to go through the full game lists on video. The harder hitting systems like Dreamcast only have a few games loaded, partly because their file sizes are so much large and partly because not all of them will run well. You can likely expect the majority of classics from the retro systems to be included.

      No problem. We all have to start somewhere and I think this is the perfect device to start with. To answer your question, yes! I’ve received the R36S in 3 different colors from 3 different sellers, mainly to check quality control variations but every device came with the exact same list of games :)

      @@pedoncule36 there are a lot of good consoles available but they’re usually sold by dropshippers who often add their own poorly curated game lists.
      The R36S is the first I’ve seen that has stayed consistent with the game lists between different sellers. Not only does it come with a consistent rom list but it’s a clean one as well. It’s all in alphabetical order and they didn’t really add anything to the more powerful systems like Dreamcast and PSP that the device can’t handle. It’s one of the cleanest UI and game list combinations I’ve ever really seen. For a console under $50US it’s a great deal!
      I’d still recommend backing everything up on your computer or another micro Sd card because the cards they usually use are not the most reliable in the long term.
      If you’re just getting into this hobby I honestly think the R36S is one of the best places to start. It’s made to be easy, so the average person can navigate the menu, but it also allows you to tweak many settings to your liking once you’re more knowledgeable with the OS, ArkOS. I love it. I just wish the back button didn’t have such a loud click, but I’m just nitpicking here. The R36S is still the one I recommend most in the price bracket at the moment. If you don’t need N64 and Dreamcast or games that utilize thumbsticks (which are hit and miss on the R36S) I’d recommend an Anbernic RG35XX or the Miyoo Mini Plus. They’re great devices but they often come with some really sloppy rom lists and won’t really shine as much until you add custom firmware.
