Very cool that you guys played completely different jams, and songs. It made the video much more watchable. I know it's gotta be hard to keep the songs fresh, when you do SO MANY videos like you two do. The extra effort is appreciated!!
Never liked Firebirds before... Now I HAVE to get one haha. What tone! Really warming up to the looks too. Real nice. Digging the HP specs too. Thanks for the demo!
"there's something warm and rounded and..." and all i see is captain lee not complaining. lovely guitars and lovely video gents. keep up the great work.
+Rob Chapman I cant wait to go to see you in the zephyr center on the 20th, I have premium tickets and don't know when to get there is it 7 or before that for the clinic???? Help I need to know.
Rob's one - killer! Everything..the sculpted neck and faster neck...the stoptail and 2 minihums...the bound neck with traps...the robo-tuners. My perfect Firebird, there! And Oh, the tones Rob was getting from it with medium gain, playing bluesy lead. 😖👌Mwaah!
That raised center section has V-shaped grooves cut on both sides. The body consists of the center neck section and two wings on the side. The wings have V-shaped edges that fit in this groove. This increases the size of the glue joint and makes aligning the wings easy as pie. The raised section on the headstock is a veneer. Most guitars have a veneer on the headstock but Gibson made it smaller than the headstock. It adds some reinforcement plus it's a design element that adds a sculptural quality to the headstock. Keep up the good work, lads!
I've always adored firebirds since I was little, and ever-poignant-Chappers nailed it: it feels like me. Beautiful guitars, and I'm definitely going to try and track down a high spec.
I went to play the 2016 non-reverse model at a shop the other week (actually motivated by this video), and just as Rob does at 15:53, I knocked the pickup selector switch whilst playing. It looks and plays pretty sweet, but that switch placement (or type of switch) is a HUGE design flaw.
Picked up the model that the Captain's playing three weeks ago and I love it. I didn't think I was a Firebird guy but I tried it at the shop and just couldn't put it down. It's lovely to play and the PUPs sound really spectacular. I find leaning in on the tremolo can mess with the tuning a bit but I'm not huge on using tremolo anyway and I love the look of the tail piece. I usually play it through a Tone King Imperial MK II and that amp and those pickups are a great match.
Love that Bassbreaker tone! I just bought a Custom Shop 63 Reissue Firebird 1 just a few days ago and this video helped with my decision. Thanks guys! Also, I put a GForce tuning system on my Gibson J45 (took a bit of force to get it on, not a perfect fit...) and it's brilliant on an acoustic.
Yes, I've got a picture of his guitar on my HD that I plan to use as the basis of as Firebird build eventually. I think nearly everyone hates the headstocks on Firebirds. A Strat neck is just the ticket.
I have a Firebird Studio, reverse like "Explorer" reverse and these guys in the video. Nitro s/burst, 2 P90s, headstock like a Strat (keys on top) and the "Eagle" scratchplate motif, no f/board binding, dots, all mahogany. Hard case, less than a grand. It's a super good cheap Gibson. When you stand up you have to hook the strap over the body or it hangs terribly and neck-dives but then you hook the strap and the full access neck presents itself perfectly and it's light and comfortable. I expect after a while this will affect the finish and it will relic up quite well. It's become my favourite of several Gibsons that I have - you can use it at the pub with your gear set up on the floor and people dancing near you without too much worry. It's flawlessly made and finished, handsome as Harry but it's not a museum piece.
does that mean a firebird feels more an SG to play where the neck is slightly futher down? because I much rather that , thanks for the videos love them btw
+Wormweed in fact PayPal Credit offers "No payment + No Interest if paid in full in 6 months on purchases of $99 or more" Now if you're patience to save up do that, but if you're confident you can pay off the card by then, seize the day!
Warren Haynes has been known to jam on a Firebird FYI. If he isn't an ambassador to what kind of tones you can get out of one, I don't know who is. Keep it up. Love the vids as usual.
+Simon Rourke You could get the non-reverse version and string it up "backwards" so that it's the right way for you. As long as you don't mind the controls being at the top.
Look up Tokai, they are a Japanese company that makes high quality fake Gibsons and fenders in both left and right handed. You won't get the name on the headstock but they are apparently very good.
+Edward Barfield Simply stringing it lefty doesn't work. To get the right intonation, you'd have to drill new holes and reset the bridge so its angled the other direction. You'd also need a new nut, and the side dots on the neck are only on one side so you'd lose those.
Johnny Winter - i seem to remember the FB being a Gibson variation on Fender's popular body shapes... and Lynyrd Skynyrd reference was probably Allen Collins and his 1975 Mahogany Explorer.
Hey Captain, you were right about the Firebird and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Allen Collins had both Firebirds and Explorers. And at least one of them had one of those different tremolos on it. Score for you. A bit of Over The Hill history. When I was a wee pup, I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd live. This was before the plain wreck, they were at the top of their game and it was an amazing show. I purchased a t shirt and wore it to school, the Vice Principle told me it was underwear and I could not wear it any more. Also, Peter Frampton was the backup band for Skynyrd. That's right, "Frampton Comes Alive", had come out recently before the tour and was climbing up the charts like a rocket so he did an amazing show as well. It was one of the best line ups I've ever seen. Sorry about the trivia, thanks for all you guys do and for making me laugh. Best of luck.
Hey Rob and Mon Capitan Lee, Can you possibly do a shootout between the lower priced ESP Phoenix and the standard 2016 Gibson Firebird in the near future ? Also a shootout between the ESP/ LTD V50 and the standard 2016 Gibson Flying
Firebirds look like explorers that have melted ;)
Explorers look like Firebirds that were made using a chainsaw XD
+Bats They look like Jazzmasters in a mirror
They were designed by sanding down a explorer body.
The RD is a much more melted looking guitar
+Adam Sweet An rd is just a melted firebird
These are firebird! Basically all you need to know... is that if you own one, you look super badass!!
LET'S PLAY ANOTHER BADASS RIFF!!
One of the most beautiful Guitar Shapes...
I just love Andertons' videos. They're just great fun.
I bought one of these... BEST DECISION EVER
The top end of the Firebird is incredible!
damn! just based on looks, that is the most gorgeous headstock I've ever seen on a guitar! (the one Rob has)
Gibson Firebird is my favorite guitar of all time! Anyone else feel the same?
Me too !
I do I'm a proud owner of the tone beast
Awesome! Firebirds (and Thunderbirds) are super cool. Somewhat of a well kept secret in Gibson's range
Man, that 2016 Firebird that Rob is playing is really one hell of a guitar... I'd love one... By the by, you fellas sound pretty sweet today!
One minute in.... I already know Lee and Rob are going to outdo themselves again. :)
The second I layed eyes on the Firebird 2016 T, I just melted. It's my life goal to own one of these before the end of 2016. What a guitar!
Very cool that you guys played completely different jams, and songs. It made the video much more watchable. I know it's gotta be hard to keep the songs fresh, when you do SO MANY videos like you two do. The extra effort is appreciated!!
I have a challenge. Try to shred on a 12 string.
Second the motion.
Ooo that sounds awesome.
Look up mastodon the bit live at the aragon. Brent shreds on his 12 string
+Brandon Gee Rob said that he cant even shred on a 8 string once xD
+Generic Name and also listen to the song because it's completely badass
2 minutes in and just looks like the coolest video ever. Man, the firebird is cool
Lovely intro playing Chappers!
Thanks man :-)
YES I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SOOO LONG!!
Thank you :)
I loved that cut for 1 second of Rob hugging the firebird
The way Chappers holds the guitar, he should be a pin up model.
***** 30 YEARS EPIC DOOM METAL
Lee, it's called non-reverse because the longer horn is on top, like a strat or most double cut guitars.
Never liked Firebirds before... Now I HAVE to get one haha. What tone! Really warming up to the looks too. Real nice. Digging the HP specs too. Thanks for the demo!
God I love firebirds. such a sweet tone and so fun to play
I could drink coffee and watch Cpt Lee play smooth blues all day!
Yes! I love Firebirds I they're just so out there man, i've always wanted one.
+Micah Berlow Church!!
They look so AWESOME!!
"there's something warm and rounded and..." and all i see is captain lee not complaining. lovely guitars and lovely video gents. keep up the great work.
Love the fact that Rob spent a good amount of time cuddling that guitar. : )
It has been loved.....
Wow... I've always liked the looks of firebirds, but man, they SOUND AWESOME!
Finally the Firebird gets the Chappers and Captain treatment! Great job lads!
Johnny Winter's favorite guitar, which sounds especially wonderful through a Super Reverb. Nice guitars Gibson!
Oh my gosh man ! The medium gain "blue tone" Rob was doing ....Perfect ! Thats the sound man.
I love the tone of that high spec Fire Bird. Love it.
"I don't associate the Gibson Firebird with any artist." Uuuuuuuuuh...Johnny Winter.
Allen Collins from the little known and obscure Lynyrd Skynyrd
Clapton who? And some guy Bonamassa .....
Rob, that Orange one looks like it was made for you.
Really enjoyed that first Jam/solo chappers! That's the stuff!
Jam at the end was so sweet
Great show. When I think of FireBirds I think of Johnny Winter.
At 1:53 Captain should have said: congratulations, you've just bought a Firebird. :) Will it be cash or credit?
Cool riffing Rob and Lee ......great guitars ! Rock on
You guys were on fire with that last Jam! seriously good listening :D
By far my favorite model of Gibson!
Those firebirds sounds phenomenal 😯
every time i see a firebird it just reminds me os the great Johny Winter...!!! suuuuch a lovely guitar!!
What a beauty!
rob 'tasty lickage' chappers
Why thank you sir :-)
+Rob Chapman tastier licks then KFC fingers with peanut butter on!
+Rob Chapman Agreed, nice stuff you both playing on those Thunderbirds :)
+Rob Chapman I cant wait to go to see you in the zephyr center on the
20th, I have premium tickets and don't know when to get there is it 7 or
before that for the clinic???? Help I need to know.
+nevermoreshred 27 "Licky Taster"
I've always been sort of so-so on Firebirds, but after seeing you guys putting them through their paces, I think I'm actually digging these now.
same here bro.
you should do a reverend range overview
+[E.T.H] I agree, i'd love to see some Reverends put through their paces.
they have a while back I believe
With the one with the vibrola is so pwetttty
Firebird = Johnny Winter
rcoveyduc love JW. That’s why I love the Firebird.
Tasty playing by Rob in the beginning
Rob's one - killer! Everything..the sculpted neck and faster neck...the stoptail and 2 minihums...the bound neck with traps...the robo-tuners. My perfect Firebird, there!
And Oh, the tones Rob was getting from it with medium gain, playing bluesy lead. 😖👌Mwaah!
opening jam was legendary!!!
The center neck through body portion is a 9 ply mahogany & walnut, with mahogany wings.
Johnny Winter's fav guitar :-)
Great lil jam!
I saw the guitarist from DeWolff play one 2 weeks ago. He absolutely rocked it. Now I want one, because skill is in the gear.
I can't believe you've featured as many Firebirds as you have without mentioning Johnny Winter.
Those things look stunning
I've always adored firebirds since I was little, and ever-poignant-Chappers nailed it: it feels like me. Beautiful guitars, and I'm definitely going to try and track down a high spec.

all these 2016 Gibson's look amazing, getting a les paul traditional hiperf in September
Cracking jam at the end fellas.
Steve Winwood played one on live Dear Mr Fantasy....great solo!
Long awaited video, long awaited.
the captian's got some mad solo skills
I am not usually into Firebirds, but you did a good job showing the positives. Also, I really dig the bizarro Firebird. A lot.
very nice lead guitar plus nice sound to my ears love it a lot nice guitars
my firebird is definitely my go to guitar in my arsenal
Fell in love with this guitar before I even played. 'Used' it in the Guitar Hero games.
that demo on the non reverse Firebird sold me
Gibson have knocked it out of the ball park for the 2016 range..... Beauts!!!!!
Picked up the model that the Captain's playing three weeks ago and I love it. I didn't think I was a Firebird guy but I tried it at the shop and just couldn't put it down. Rob is a great guitarist but damn Captain Lee's playing is so smooth and sweet.
+Yogen Grg It also seems like Rob is just noodling without caring what Lee is playing.
Great guitarist? Lol, his tone is annoying
great tone Chapman!!
My God those are beautiful and sound fantastic.
That orange one I like the shape of a lot. Could be a good competitor for the jazzmaster/jag style guitar if it wasn't so metal/rock set up.
Grant Nicholas' jazzbird is lovely. Somewhere in the middle
Yes, I've got a picture of his guitar on my HD that I plan to use as the basis of as Firebird build eventually. I think nearly everyone hates the headstocks on Firebirds. A Strat neck is just the ticket.
Watching all of these different videos with different guitars in each makes me want to buy so many more guitars ):
Oh the wood! Like a fine bespoke coffee table that rocks. Would Andertons take a grandmother in part-exchange?
the into is easily the best guitar I've ever had, I don't know why, but I love it
Nice work, Captain!
Johnny’s axe. There will never be another like him.
the trem system is a Vibrola style very classic used back in the 50's on Vs and SGs
Wow, that tone! Like melted ice cream.

Cap'n had it sorta right there though, Allen Collins in Lynyrd Skynyrd primarily played a Firebird early on, especially on the solo in Free Bird...
+Dagger 323 He got the Explorer in 1976, after One More From The Road.
+Spillner yup. He bought that Explorer from Eric Clapton supposedly and played it ever since.
does that mean a firebird feels more an SG to play where the neck is slightly futher down? because I much rather that , thanks for the videos love them btw
Can't believe Chappers' tone is coming out of a Bassbreaker. It sounds so Marshally awesome
yet another guitar I can't wait to not be able to afford lol
I couldn't afford it yesterday already
get a nice 0% interest credit card. :D I don't think most people can afford this stuff. lol
+David Lammey 0% intrerest credit card? Not sure what planet you live on :o
+Wormweed several music stores offer it, i know for a fact sweetwater does
+Wormweed in fact PayPal Credit offers "No payment + No Interest if paid in full in 6 months on purchases of $99 or more" Now if you're patience to save up do that, but if you're confident you can pay off the card by then, seize the day!

2:13 Captain: what would you call these? Chappers: Guitars.
Chappers, Keeping it simple, since 1945
+Ikhsan Hasbi You mean 1954 ;)
Rainer Kraus lol I dunno, I just picked a random year. 1945 is the year of world war 2 ended.
thanks so much for the videos. ive learned so much from you guys. god bless! rock till you drop!!!
Love Firebirds, hate being left handed!
+Simon Rourke I'm left handed as well, I just decided to play right handed when I picked up the guitar I knew it would be more convenient.
+Simon Rourke You could get the non-reverse version and string it up "backwards" so that it's the right way for you. As long as you don't mind the controls being at the top.
Im a lefty too , best thing to do is buy a strat and string it upside down all hendrix style
Damn look at that maestro tremolo, it's so awesome
Johnny Winter - i seem to remember the FB being a Gibson variation on Fender's popular body shapes... and Lynyrd Skynyrd reference was probably Allen Collins and his 1975 Mahogany Explorer.
Hey, sound engineer.....we can't hear the Cap'n when he's soloing...turn up his mic please :D
"Guitars!" - classic.
Futuristic.
9 ply mahogany and walnut. Always.
good video!.
the neck is ply mahogany / walnut. the dark stripes is the walnut.

LMAO. 9:16 - Rob takes the amp off standby mode and is about to shred....9:22 - Rob notices Lee wants to play so turns it back on standby mode.
