Legend says that if you put a Flying V between your legs and strum an A chord you'll fly to a magical planet full of soaking wet victoria's secret models.
Hank Hill I thought that was only if you put a Flying V between your legs and finger the g string.
I own a Flying V and i have to admit this is true.
I went to my local store today. Can confirm. I got kicked out when I landed back on earth though
Correction.. its an E chord
+Dime BagBarrells thats the best name i've ever seen and i love it.
Albert King! The guy with a Flying V was ALBERT KING!
Don't you lie to me.
Because it makes me mad
Was going to post the same thing. It's an honest mistake but could noone google it on their phone or something? It's not like the man was a nobody.
Steve Floyd They could stop the recording only for two seconds and then search for him. They have Rory to edit it. Such a huge disregard for this myth of the guitar
I'm quite shocked that bluesboy Lee isn't completely into Albert King
Why are v's called v. They should be called Y
Jason Uy They should just be called Arrow.
Jason Uy FUCKING MIND BLOWN 😵😵😵😵
LikeMike what's that first riff rob plays? lol I know it's Metallica
no
It's creeping death
"Seek and Destroy is a track off their new album." "Really?"
Cap'n officially trolled on 12/15/16.
The10000lbGorilla *15/12/16
matthew thomas Get out of here with your commie dating conventions! /s
The10000lbGorilla sorry !
It's 15.12.16 This is Europe bitch, not inbred hillbilly-country! lol
RickyboyH Serious question though, how do Europeans actually say the date out loud. I would say today was "December fifteenth" would you say it was the "fifteenth of December"?
Seems funny to hear the Cap play Metallica
I agree
Creeping Death
He gave it a bloody good go to be fair
Lincoln Boulton creeping death
That was Albert King
yes Freddie played a 345 and Albert played a korina V which was stolen and Dan Erlewine of stewmac mad him his V with his name in the fret board. I do believe Bonamassa owns it now, atleast I wouldn't doubt it
unfair how bonamassa's going to own every piece of vintage equipment soon, let alone alberts flying V. In his defence, that live video of him playing "I'll play the blues for you" sounded too good.
He has a museum though to be fair to him
Bonamassa has a shit ton of guitars, I don't blame him though, guys got good taste in vintage instruments
And can play *anything* and make it sound good
14:06 The Captain describes his pornography preferences...
Pete dancing at the bottom of the screen in time cracked me up haha, another great review guys and great playing Rob and Lee!
guitars are also amazing this year
I am quite disappointed that your hats don't say "Bah Humbucker"
ChainsawChristmas now that would be cool. make those and I'll buy one
lee's pain face playing metal in the intro😂😂
Can't get enough of these videos! This American is very much entertained.
These videos make my mornings. Thank you guys so much
The white V is delicious!!
totally agree, want it so bad..
I was expecting playing "Rock Bottom" with the V, after "Seek And Destroy" with the Explorer. Michael Schenker is an iconic V player!
+Jantes Inferno Most younger people weren't born when "Seek And Destroy" came out (I bought "Kill 'em All" in vinyl when it came out back then!), but Rob Chappers knows Michael Schenker as he knows the first songs of Metallica... It would be a great opportunity to show younger people something "new"!
Seeing the Cap playing some nice metal riffs is like a dream come true
After a long time happy to see captain playing with gr8 passion......
Albert King plays his own signature V guitar , not Freddie King
I've dedicated my life to diseases of the head holes, but the one hole I've never been able to fix is the one in my soul. Perhaps owning an Explorer would fix that hole.
CamoteMaster Sorry, not today, old friend. But don't worry, holidays are just around the corner.
To accomplish your goal to fix hole in your soul just grab a pole, buy a vole, scroll past the troll and roll in the money from your payroll. just make sure to keep your self-control so you don't end up on parole. Damn i'm really on a roll.
xXBantamCatXx a bit like the guy on the grassy knoll.
So yeah i thought there was a hair on my phone screen when i see your comment..
I love that the video started with the creeping death riff, fantastic. Put a big smile on my face :)
The boys of Andertons are the best at entertaining and in forming us on all things electric guitar. Great the way they demonstrate tone and quality differences between a manufactures price and option ranges.
It was Albert King who played a V, not Freddie King
Linus Martin and Lucy was her name. lol
Disappointed that those hats don't say "Bah Humbucker"
I love the feel of this type of guitar!
I just realized what makes these videos great: they're home shopping for guitar. Brilliant work, gents!
Fuck, I need an Explorer.
Not interested in Gibbos but this video reminds me how stoked I am for the Chapman V.
The Explorer is my dream guitar and I have wanted one for almost as long as I can remember.
robs chops never get old
"Why'd I have to be a pudding?"
Hahahahahahaaaaa!! Now that really tickled me! Ah, Pete's the best!
There's more! Oh no!! :O
Pete, get out of the oven!!
Cap, It was Albert King. There is a sweet video of him and SRV jamming for an hour and a half
I love the beginning.
That little St. Anger riff at 4:50 gives me life.
"Albert King" used a Gibson V , not Freddy Kind, Lee
Clapton played an explorer and btw it was Albert King.
this is one of my favorite videos that y'all have done!
+1000 points for the intro! Lee looks just like me trying to play that riff... ah... I need to practice...
be nice to see some affordable gear once in a while for us humble peasant's..!
Simon Gummer I agree with you 200 % on that
You now what's worse, the cheaper stuff is directed to students and beginners, I mean, i've been playing for 15 years but I'm only 20, I didn't make it in life yet to be able to afford the expensive good stuff. Not only I have to buy my gear very slowly, I had to master my luthier skills to be able to mess around with bad stuff and make it better.
Easily brings to mind what my first regular musical instrument retailer had to say about it. He chooses to sell guitars that a serious beginner would still be able to play when he or she became a professional. To him, a guitar isn’t just a toy to have fun with and put aside to collect dust two minutes later. The idea being, you can always upgrade to a Gibson or an American-made Fender if you can afford it, as long as your Epiphone, Squier or foreign-made Fender is still beneficial to you.
Clapton played an Explorer at some of the ARMS Concerts.
(They're here on teh youtubes, kids)
When the V first came out, it was not popular, but the black jazz musicians in Chicago started buying them up and using them. They're the ones that made it popular, it was a jazz guitar ( and no metal then). Being a jazz man yourself Lee, I'm surprised you didn't know that.
gotta love Rory's editing cracks me up
10:45 this should be a RUclips standard feature in all videos... Enable lower third dancing Pete!!!
Seek and destroy is a new song! 😂
Great, my two favorite guitars. Thanks fellows.
Thank you for this amazing review guys! I actually just went ahead and got the Flying V, after watching this video about 5 times. Sounds freaking beautiful!
Everyone plays Metallica on the explorer. I'd be delighted if I heard lynyrd skynyrd for once.
Dave Mustardstain yess, Allen Collins
I want to hear Styx or Def Leppard.
*why do i have to be a pudding*
ffs im dying here
Thomas McAteer New nickname ... Pudding Pete or maybe Peter Pud?
if only he were a pudding of the Viennoiserie variety, he could has literally been a danish pastry
meanwhile captain in a wig and fake beard still kills me
YES the explorers and Vs, was waiting for this!!
The hilarious editing always makes these videos so funny. Keep rocking
Forever wishing they made a 25.5", 24 fret explorer. The demand has to be there, right?
C0nnie if that is ever going to happen it would probably be made by schecter or esp
Gaseous Snake fingers crossed
C0nnie I think that ESP has got some models :)
Jaume Casanova i wish man
DamageIncM whoever makes it first gets my money
The captain cant down pick! Its official
This video still cracks me the hell up, oh Lee...
the video editing is on point.
Albert King played the V, Lee :)
I bought a Gibson Melody Maker explorer (2011) for my first guitar... paid $400. Did I overkill or was it a great deal?
Nix nice guitar, looks like a good deal to me. looking around they go between 350 to 450 usd. I didnt know those existed till i read your comment.. ill have to look into those myself
Looks alright. I'd love that guitar if I had one.
Depends on the neck honestly. If it plays nice, then it's great.
Definitely not overkill, looks like a sweet axe!
Starting the video with "Creeping Death" is badass. I love y'all.
Don Preston, the guitar player for the late Leon Russell played an Explorer. I love Explorers ever since I saw him playing in The Concert for Bangladesh.
Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top plays an explorer too :)
I have seen videos of Clapton playing one as well
Stephen Owen Surprised El Capitan didn't know that! Lol
Is the Chapman flying V still in the pipeline Rob??
Bob Pine&Burg he just went to corea to watch production of them. Apparently
Bob Pine&Burg Nam-uary
Rob Chapman yay
Another great video guys, thank so much for the info about the flying V. What a beautiful guitar. Sounds great!! Take care.
At this point I'm watching these videos more for Rory's edits than for the rest of the content. That "yeah" at around 4:50 was glorious!
Jokrono this part (which is repeated twice )in the actual song is even funnier, especially in the music video
It's Albert king not Freddie king
It's Albert King Who Played A V
Thanks guys!!
Whoever is doing the editing these days is WINNING
Hey Lee, it was Albert King! lol.
Albert King was the blues guy that plays the flying V
Right on, vipe D........Albert King....he was a Lefty, too.......Freddie King played Tele, LP Goldtops, And Es335, I believe....Cap'n Lee A.......Hideaway!!!!!!!
As a lifelong guitar novice, I've come to love your videos and channel. Your videos are very informative and bring a very unbiased approach to comparing guitars and equipment. As you are fully aware this industry is littered with one sided opinions that poison the reviews and content in many videos. Thank you so much for your videos and having the balls to make amazing content. Your friend from Austin Texas. Yee Haw!
Lee's playing is getting alot better
Some days you guys nail it and gel, this was not one of those days
Poll: Im VERY curious how many of you (like me) are waiting, praying, dying and going CRAAAAZY wondering why Gibson won't make a line of Firebirds Explorers and V's with 24 frets?
if youve ever played a v with 25.5 scale its a bitch
Probably the best video y'all have done. Great job! Most expensive guitar and amp in the store video? That would be fun for y'all and fun to watch.
Just got that black V today from my local shop.
It’s so cool lol
the edge played an explorer, he's not a metal guy.
Cortez Glawson the guy from lynyrd skynyrd played one too
eric clapton had one and he sawed the top off
Seek and Destroy is literally off their first album..
typhox thatsthejoke.jpg
typhox it's literally a joke
I couldn't tell if The Captain was being serious or not lol
Yes, that's the joke.
Second, first was called til the leather
Capt Lee looks really comfortable playing that intro lol ...
creeping death great choice
I absolutely hate the v's this year, apparently Gibson thinks us metal inbreds only like white and black, ALL THE GAIN!!! NO MIDS!!
Omega-Tech SLAYER
+Danny Meeson MORE GAIN!
Omega-Tech CLEAN CHANNEL!! CHEAP DRIVE PEDAL!!
Omega-Tech SLAYURRRRR
Omega-Tech If I could put a picture here of Colin looking menacing while playing that horrible guitar tone, I would.
Sounds like Cliff Burton?......Oh! Wrong video sorry.
I like the close encounters harmonics, I'm gonna have to figure that out
That opening riff was insane
cap need to brush up on his metallica history haha
He was having a laugh..
Albert King !!! Joe Bonamassa !!!
Yes! i congratulate whoever edited this video, this is awesome!
and very funny
Watching lee trying to keep up in creeping death was great.
the captains lack of music history knowledge is a little disturbing
You think you're gonna be ok? Or should we call emergency service?
You do know it's a joke right..
Can't play a V and leave out some Megadeth or Slayer riffs!
i learned to play on a v, its hard for me to play a regular guitar
...or Michael Schenker riffs!
yo diggitty my first guitar was a V, to me they are the most comfortable to play sitting down... the uninitiated hate playing 'em sitting and do so akwardly, as I'm sure you well know
Adore my 2016 Explorer HP...best guitar I've ever owned.
I own one, best Flying V I have ever owned. I purchased the upgraded one. The dirty fingers pick up took a minute to get use to but I have come to really like them. Neck is a bit thinner but very comfortable good sounding instrument. It's a keeper!!
i'd rather buy a ghost fret xD
Your hats should say "Bah Humbucker". Seriously though, I wish Gibson would shit can the scratch plate. The ESP explorers look so much better than this. Just my opinion.
If I ever find myself in a sutuation where i can name a humbucker I'l call it Humbugger.
Noeffnwaypal I agree, they're obviously going for a vintage look with these, but I feel like more options should be available. - pickguard +more colors
Completely agree with ditching the plate, that's why I am more likely to buy and Epiphone 1984 version than a Gibson....well that and price, haha.
Noeffnwaypal i like the plate
Noeffnwaypal the only reason to get a gibson explorer is because of the pickguard, if they got rid of it they might as well discontinue the explorer
yet again Rory's on point with the editing :)
0:30 The Captain is out of his comfort zone by a long way! I don't think I've ever seen him play an explorer
No joke I was playing guitar and looking at RUclips, then I clicked into this video and while it started loading I started playing that creeping death riff and then the video started and we were playing in time together.
Lonnie Mack also played a Flying V with a neat looking bigsby tailpiece
"It's got the hockey puck on the end"
Nailed it eh.
pop-up Jaimz killed me... Almost fell off my chair laughing!
Those v sounds mint
Rob's tone in this video is naughtttyyy
When are you coming back to Minnesota? Jamming with you is on my bucket list!
It's also great to see that Chappers likes the new 'Tallica album as much as I do.
