If anyone is curious, butch actually didn’t design Danny phantom’s characters and didn’t create the “butch art style”. That credit goes to Stephen sliver. He’s also make the character designs for Kimpossible
What was his role then in the creation of FOP and Danny Phantom?
@@mahzabinnaruse7642 I guess he's the creator of the story? Like he created the plot and characters personality and roles in the show? But I even read that he didn't even write most of the episodes so who knows 🤷
Is that markiplier as your pfp?
@@janaiafavors yes
@@mahzabinnaruse7642 Creator-director.
Creator meaning that he was the one who created the original characters, who they are and what they look like, but in his own drawing style which is not the one of the final production. Also he is the one that created the base of the story, the setting and what the basic dynamic or formula of the show would be, all in a general way. He probably was the one who pitched and sold the shows to Nickelodeon.
He's director. He didn't create the final art style of the show. He didn't write every episode script if he wrote any. He direct and supervise every department. He probably guides the screen-writing team, and takes general decisions.
Also he's executive producer, so his role is also making sure they have the money and resources to make the production possible.
His role is basically beign the one that had the initial ideas, getting the money and taking decisions when in doubt. Is a less creative role than most people believe. Also his name is bigger in the initial credits, but in the IMDB you can actually check there's co-creators. It's also interesting to check art directors, screenwriting crew and such. There are many people involved for any show or film to become a reality, yet we tend to remember just one name.
Why didn’t he draw it in his own style? I’d be kinda pissed if I commissioned someone with a western style to draw an anime character and they just drew it in the original style. Like, I’m coming to you for your version man.
Even so his own style looks pretty bad considering he's a "professional" with +/- 15 years of experience under his belt.
@@geelgamesh8596 even so, if I want him to draw me something I’d at the very least expect it to look like something he would draw. Not a copy of another style.
*just realised you wrote “even so” as well 🤣 oops
It's not his style , it's Stephen Silver style , he is the actual artist behind Fairly odd parents and Danny Phantom .
@@royal1015 yeah I know. But this image doesn’t even look like the stuff he draws that isn’t Stephen Silver influenced. It’s a straight up piss poor, first pass copy attempt. Sold for $200.
The thing is, the character style we see in shows like Danny Phantom is actually done by Stephen Silver. “Butch Hartman style” isn’t even from Butch Hartman.
That's big yikes. Look at this "professional" profiting big bucks from copying smh, he also needs to go learn anatomy oof that hand be like....
My gosh, even children can draw better hands-
I thought that asking 50 bucks for the judgment day lf Michelangelo that i'm doing with ink was to much. Damn makes me think i should ask at least 100 for the time that is taking me after looking at this
@@bepinkfloyd814 bitch don't under sell yourself. The amount of time and effort you are putting into that drawing should be worth at least 500 dollars if not more based on the amount of hours you are working on it. Being a professional artist taking commissions is a job and taking only 50 dollars for a piece like that is wayyyyy below minimum wage. From now on you should give your client an estimate of how many hours it'll take and have a rate especially if you are a very talented artist.
@@miwrendi1457 yo bitch, Lol, i was not doing It thinking about selling It but i got a dude that watched It and ask me to sell to him. I think the situation is quite simple. Someone asked him to draw a character he knows nothing about. He googled the character, this thing showed up. Instead of using multiple references to gather data and visual motifs about the character, he just used this one image as a word for word reference.
Also, if someone's paying 200bucks for a commission, this isn't the quality of skill one should get, even though the artist has a big 'brand' behind them.
You are right. He is a lazy artist and he is not a good artist.
I too am both. But i could easily get multiple reference images of the character, some reference poses from some random model and then create a well framed, well posed, well shaded Mikasa Ackerman in an generic anime style without copying anything directly. The fact that he couldn't shows a serious lack of dedication of any sort.
PLUS HE ACTUALLY CAN'T DRAW. THE FOP AND DF USE STEPHEN SILVER'S ARTSTYLE

Being an introvert isn't selfish. It's just a thing where you get energy from spending time alone rather than with others. Everyone has their own views like if you would rather spend time alone and have a break or hang out with friends and recharge with social things. There's nothing wrong with that.
exactly!! I have social anxiety and i just need this time for myself and i dont really feel safe around people at all. Everybody has their own reasons why they are an introvert and nobody should call this selfish
I'm an introvert, I don't want to be though people take it as I'm conceited, I heard the selfish part from teachers, from uncles and aunts, my mom sheltered me for that reason and other people took it as she was spoiling me. That is why she's like that, I heard it a lot, mom used to say, don't pay attention to them everyone marches at the beat of their own drum. People don't get how hard it is to be this way. For him, the creator of kids' content to call all of us selfish, is as wromg as those uncles and aunts of my past.

Introvert = I gain energy from being by myself and doing activities that enable me to enjoy my own company
Some of the loudest, out-going people I know are introverted. They just need a while to recharge on their own for their own mental health.
Geez
I used to do tracing a lot when I was little, that's why I'm (probably) able to tell if something is traced or not. There are so many weird details in his drawing that wouldn't be there if he weren't looking at the original picture - the space between two fingers, strands of hair in certain places, the shape of the fold on the scarf... you can also see that he was so lazy that it's the ONLY "reference" he used and he didn't even look at the details, because he simply doesn't understand the gear she's wearing and straight up doesn't draw a part of the gear that's visible almost everytime, but not so much in this picture (strap on the chest). The stuff he made just shows his lack of skills, where he doesn't depend on his own abilities and just straight up copies everything without knowing basic anatomy while thinking that's the profit.
Look, using reference is okay - you can look at references of this pose, you can get inspired by the lighting or color scheme, but if someone commisions you to draw Mikasa and you straight up go to Google, type "Mikasa fanart" and draw that... that shows not only how lazy and unprofessional you are, but also your lack of imagination and creativity.

yeah had the same thought, didn't know he was such a person :(
I find it so weird to see Tara Strong and Butch Hartman together in the same room because their personalities are so opposite to each other. Butch is Butch while Tara is a very smart, charismatic, and respectful voice actress. I watched some of her videos and man she's so passionate that she even has each of her character's personalities memorized. She also gives off a kind and very mature vibe whenever she speaks. There's just something so charming about her. Which is why I find it so strange how opposite she is to Butch.
Stealing or tracing art is bad but its fine to use as reference so long as you don't copy it. An amazing artist I follow allowed to me to adopt an art style she stopped using and it helped me develop my own style.

He doesn't have the skill to back up those characters. As an introvert, I can definitely say I’d PREFER to be an extrovert because being an introvert has certainly cost me many opportunities. I can’t believe he acts like it’s some sort of choice.
It's also a misnomer that they are just "traits" you have or don't have, therefore shouldn't be used to judge others or craft your whole personality around. Nobody is JUST an introvert or extrovert in every and all situations.

Yea same here my commissions are only worth like free to 10$ depending how people like my artstyle
Honestly the most outraging thing isnt that he traced, it is that he is charging 200 freaking bucks for that kind of beginners level drawing while many of us consider even 20 bucks for our work as too much to ask for.
Dude got his job at Nickelodeon and thought “this is it I’ve reached the peak of art I don’t need to grow or practise anymore” and is now a joke of an artist who draws at a beginner level who only gets work due to name recognition.
@@mrpizzacat8273 I wouldn’t exactly call it beginner level, but definitely not good enough to be charging that kind of money for, especially when he has to heavily reference (copy) and only does a very mediocre job at that.
I gave a friend a 23$ commission and when he paid extra i couldnt sleep
You aren't just paying $200 for a shitty drawing, you're paying $200 for a shitty drawing from an artist with an impressive CV, that's how the art market works. just thought i'd mention that tracing a digital drawing onto a piece of paper is actually really easy, you just place the piece of paper against the screen and trace, i do that a lot, i sketch on csp and then trace my sketch onto watercolor paper as if it was the lineart layer to avoid ruining my good paper and save time (because digitally it's a lot easier to try a lot of different stuff in a sketch, you don't have to redraw things millions of times or worry about erasing so much your paper gets ruined)

he do be red
he do be looking fresh
Sadly name recognition matters a lot more than how skilled the artist is. I've seen a lot of very small artists who are very good but barely get any commissions. While there's a lot of much bigger artists who aren't as skilled and charge way more and get tons of commissions
_I missed this man, his dope glasses and Maximum power Beanie_
hahaha thankyou!!! i missed all of you too!
Tonten really highlighting how good the character duo dynamics are in GashBell. Cool works.
*This must have been COSMO's idea*
Dang them eyes are trippy lol
What made him think that being an introvert/extrovert is a personality trait, it literally means how you get energy the most from
He doesn't even know how it feels to be an introvert. I'm pissed
ok?
I used to look up to Butch so much, especially with how much I love Danny Phantom, but just watching how far off the deep end he’s gone just destroys my hope for humanity sometimes. Being a bit of an introvert myself, hearing him pretty much indirectly call me selfish for something I can barely control just pisses me the hell off.
I really appreciate the captions, i have terrible hearing so the captions were greatly appreciated
When you're a beginner artist of only a few years and are starting to feel like you're a better artist than butch -_-
Oh I hated that bit about introverts being selfish.
urghh! that bit and almost every other thing coming out of his mouth
Along with him saying that teen suicide is a new issue
@@dingocheez766 which is blatantly untrue
@@dingocheez766 I’m sorry *what*
But i am selfish.
Ahhhh! He's back! Welcome back! We totally missed you Mohammed.
i missed you too!!!!
Damm, when the dude was showing the drawing from afar I actually thought that, although it isn't worth 200 bucks it wasn't that bad of a drawing, I could only understand why people were saying it was on the same level of a child's drawing when he showed the drawing up close, absolutely on point.
I saw "$200 commission" and thought, "oh it's butch hartman"
been feeling like i'm really bad on doing art, but this video made me realize that at least I can draw something original than tracing, thank you.
it's sad to see the man who brought one of my favorite shows as a kid to life become... well you know.
Tracing someone else’s art just to pass the work as your own is BEYOND ridiculous, asinine, stupid and crazy! So not cool! 🤦🏻♀️🙅🏻♀️
People that buy Butch commisions don't buy a drawing, they buy the fact that Butch Hartman made that drawing, now i'm not trying to justify Butch's prices, i'm just saying that people buy his commisions not because he is a good artist but because he used to be the guy that made cartoon shows, he is just taking advantage of that to make a lot of money.
As a Psychology major going into grad school, the whole introvert statement has me baffled. Introverts gain energy from being by being with themselves, they *lose* energy from socializing. Introverts are fully capable of socializing, SMH.
Hey you! I see you,i know youre scrolling through the comments, have a nice day :)
Thank you!
You too!
Danks
thanks, you too!
I love how you showed off alot of Zatch Bell artwork, I loved the manga as a kid
Why I feel like Hartman had one experience with one introvert and used that to generalize every introvert on the planet
This man have a deep calm voice and straight to the point. Must sub
I recall fairly odd parents just felt really annoying to watch. The parents pissed me off, the jokes constantly felt reused throughout the show where they just kept repeating the same punchline, and the art style just got old
That drawing ressembles what i did when i was 12💀💀💀 cringe that he charges 200 for that
13:00 As soon as I heard this, I knew Butch was gonna get toasted lmao
So, what about artist who draw stablished characters, like goku who is someone’s property, and make money off of those character drawings… how is that not copying or stealing or copyright infringement?
Sadly the majority of people only want to buy art commissions from famous or celebrity artist rather than from a very talented stranger.
Still, Butch should have known better to "swipe" (not trace) another artist but then again I don't really care.
Thanks for this video, very informative about someone I kinda admired back in the day. Disappointed, but glad I know (especially that horrible introvert judgment) Now I'm going down the rabbit hole of your videos, thanks you got a new subscriber!
honestly i think it says something about how well he actually is at things besides showrunning and noninvolved in the stuff people found inspiring in his shows when the artstyle for his most well known shows (fop and danny phantom) was largely created by stephen silver (a designer and storyboard revisionist on fairly odd parents and lead character designer for danny phantom). and when he took over as the main writer for danny phantom it resulted in what is unanimously considered the worst season (season 3 also incidentally. the last) all he did really was act as a series creator and show runner and its so hilarious he thinks he MADE peoples childhoods when there was so much more out there. (i personally remember pepper ann super fondly i dont know why.) he didnt do anything and acts as if consequences apply to everyone else in the world not him as if... hes god... huh not very christian thinking there mister butch lmao.
Referencing this heavily is still pretty much theft, even if its not good. Redrawing other art is fine if you ask me, as long as its not for profit or anything of the sort and the original is credited, unless explicitly stated by the artist, heavy referencing is great for when you're learning how to draw. For when you're learning. If you're put trying to sell 200$ commissions, you'd best be above entrance level art, have a developed art style and not be heavily referencing. Nothing wrong with light referencing, expecially when using multiple images, but you need to be able to create a proper illustration of your own volition, no matter the skill level.
the real issue with Hartman is the art doesn't match the price, right?
cuz it looked like he didn't actually trace, rather he was referencing another artist's work... which is something I'm doing too (albeit not 1:1 scale like he is)
I tried "drawing" reference-free for about a year and I felt like I was legit literally going nowhere
References are the way to go, mostly real life actual things, and then other artists you admire, or a combination of the two
@@silverblue73 i really don't get the mindset of those who say that references are cheating lol. Often times, those who say that haven't drawn a single thing in their entire life
DUDE I RECOGNIZED THE WAKFU BATTLE THEME 1 MIN IN i love it sm THANK YOU
(good video btw)
