tutorials filmed over the producer's shoulder are the vertical videos of our culture
This comment. Just this comment man. Could not agree anymore
for real.. I started skimming the video simply because it was so annoying that I couldn't actually SEE what he was doing... focusing on the back of the head of this dude is a HUGE fail.... than no screen recording?... BUY our magazine!? .... mmmmm no. maybe if you would have shot a better video it would haven enticed me to check out the 2nd half but now im off to find other properly made tutorials on RUclips. +1 for @splatsquatch...
Unity of Noise Maybe he didn’t want no screenrecording software on his computer. But even if so, the camera could have at least zoom in on his screen.
Film the screen, not his back please
Agreed - possibly the worst ever tutorial type vid I've watched purely due to the lousy filming. Screen capture software anyone?
on Digital labz or even on Bassgorilla tutorials he used Screeen capture software no idea why it has been captured through desktop, be a dumb ass thing if CM asked could film behind him lol
oCam
There were technical difficulties with Joe's screen capture software.
at least have a second angle capturing his face so you can cut to and from, this is really hard to watch...
2018 sound design, 2010 camera work. Well done COMPUTER MUSIC.
drumdragon Really? Sorry I don't want to sound douche but this is a detuned saw with phaser. This sound has been with us for ages.
1931 Camera Work
1970 camera work more like.
this guy is a master producer, his releases are incredibly polished...
How the f are you guys not taking a screen capture?
There were technical difficulties with Joe's screen capture software.
Great info still, sorry I commented before coffee.
hahaha, cute
@@ComputerMusicMag ...but all your videos are like this...
@@ComputerMusicMag yeah, sure. That is why its now an aesthetic of yours, right?
So much good info. Super bummed about the whole distant blurry back shot. :(
This would have been fantastic if we could have seen the screen.
LOVE THIS GUYYYYY!!!! if you know ableton.... you don't need to stare at the screen the whole time.... i could listen to all of this without watching.... and still understand and learn... just a thought... up your skills if you're complaining about no screen share.... this does just fine. thanks a ton to the channel
Joe fords album was amazing
Totally
only first track
Really enjoyed the mumbling, & the lack of eye contact.
Should have filmed from across the road.
Clear structure and fast-paced explanation ... I get the feeling he knows what he's doing.
Waited for this since 2014.
Okay second time watching. Was going to comment about the recording situation, technical difficulties, blah blah blah.
Now I’m just happy that YOU GUYS MADE IT HAPPEN. How many videos do you get with Joe Ford? Personally excited bc of his recent release. His mixdowns (esp the highs) are soooo crisp. Not to mention dizzying sound design.
Huge ups to the CM team and Joe for sharing with the community.
always sound design, never arrangement....we need arrangements
It's nice to have close up camera view focus on hes neck. Good job!
That frequency shifting effect can be done with the serum filter. Same with the distortion. Almost no need for extra plugins
Yep, to back up my claim from earlier, I remade the patch entirely in serum. I used the notch 24 filter, distortion with some built in high pass, and of course the built in limited (hidden in the compressor), although the OTT sounds awesome on this preset as well. I guess you can throw both on, and then you really do need a bit of post processing. but serum FX will have you covered, so you are, in fact, keeping the whole lot in serum. And instead of assigning things to the pitch bend, I assigned the "note" modulator to the values, so you can play it on a keyboard, rather than draw everything in. If you do that, don't forget to edit the shape of the note modulator to encompass just the notes within the range you intend to play, so you have full control over how fast things move.
Over and out
Happy Guy all of them, actually. But I guess you're referring to the frequency shift one. All you need to do is fire up the 24db notch and move it around with an lfo. You get the same kind of effect. Of course you can do two notches, and have access to a second filter, doubling you possibilities
Happy Guy indeed. Its just that with the same instance serum that you are making the patch with, it's far easier to use lfos built in. No need for extra automation, or extra midi triggering. Plus if you want to do it live, like I do, you want as little post processing as possible. My rig has space for limited extra plugins, so this is useful for me. Also... Why show the example in serum? If you're going to use it...well the use it. Lots of people don't seem to know what it is capable of. It can do A LOT
Ps
Not everyone uses Ableton. So not everyone has access to erosion. No problem, seeing as you did that cool white noise trick (love it!), slap on ott (built in), and it will give a far more nasty result that erosion.
Give it a try
Pps
Sound design is really about understanding what you are using. It's a bit redundant using extra plugin, when the main one already has that built in. It's all about learning your tools, not just going through presets. Those are other people's sounds
I think you need to watch the video. Erosion is in there. He shows and explains it for you...albeit, rather vaguely. Yes, you can use the Serum LFO to modulate noise, again, like he did in the video.
whatevers easiest for you ey
12:28 - yes, we need more shots like this one, please!
Unfa! The linux music guy! Good to see you, bud.
To all the people complaining about not seeing the screen:
1. This is f******g free and really amazing content so show some appreciation to CMM for always coming thru.
2. Joe literally explained every single step and said which plug ins he's using.
3. Stop relying on other people to learn music production. Go back to the DAW you came from and experiment!
mate stfu
I think u meant, Shut DAW fuggupp..
8:41
I agree. Really wish we could see what he's doing on serum...
Joe, you need a second monitor. All the time spent moving plugins off and back on screen is killing me!
sadclownairraid looks like a second monitor behind him. I imagine he is using only one for the sake of this video. They probably wanted a screen capture recording to use in conjunction with the camera work, but something must have gone wrong.
So one monitor to screen capture rather than two. Works better for this format (had the screen capture actually worked).
Thanks! Finally a DnB producer tut using Serum!
omg the fact that you didnt capture the screen made me so mad you've no idea I'm just yelling at my computer rn haha
How can we have the full video, link doesn-t work anymore
poorly filmed
Joe had problems with his screen capture on the day of filming.
@@ComputerMusicMag I like how Joes to blame! like he was the one meant to be filming! maybe you should of had the camera man actually focus on the screen rather than the back of his neck. screen capture has nothing to do with the camera man being lazy
@@amadjuk maybe you should use your ears and listen to what he's saying. At no point did he not explain his every move.
@@amadjuk bruh who's fault was that there were problems wit the screen capture? no one's right? whats your bullshit now
why plus 13 pitch up? that makes it off key right? wouldnt it be 12 up and 12 down???
the content is amazing, this video is pretty useless though, we need to see the screen
Great tutorial from Joe - but please - SACK THE CAMERAMAN!
Whoever re-mixes this with a screen capture will get many views!
Check out BassGorilla.com - We have several Joe Ford courses and lots more
@@Bassgorilla Of course you do! Love your stuff, the podcasts taught me many tricks
One thing a production tutorial never needs is camera angles. Screen capture and call it a day.
The processing for the movement (notching and distortion) is made only on the bus with mid-high frequency?
how do i purchase this video? is there a digital download of the issue or do i need to get a magazine shipped?
especially when the focus is on the back of their head and the screen is extra blurry
wow, this could have been a nice tutorial if i could see anything. not sad i didn't buy this months copy of the mag
I like the audio/camera guy's reflection in the computer monitor. Great video but a bit quick paced. My finger got tired of clicking backward to learn his technique.
Is he using the HD600's or 650's?
should i be squinting really hard at his screen or am i supposed to not really learn anything here?
Can't see anything in Serum :(
I haven't seen anything what you have done. Only your spine
re-film this please
Minute 16.06 whats is that at the right side down?
This would have been great,,, if the screen captured the technical information being given, Thanks anyway!
how he made serum so small i need that for my laptop
if i buy the issue, do i NOT get the part 2 like in the dlr and icicle one?? still very disappointed, why you promise a part 2 when there is no one?? -.- tis is called SCAM!!
What's the name of the plugin he uses on 6:59 ?
Voxengo SPAN. It's free.
Really wish i could see the screen
would a screen cap be too hard
Interesting. Thank you.
I thought i was the only one thinking about recording his screen with camera wtf ahahhahaaha some 2008 shit
Its funny how the camera like doesnt even focus on anything important. It focuses on neither Joe nor the screen, it's focusing on the keyboard inbetween them. I'm guessing the camera guy just left the camera there and pressed record. No viewfinder, nothing. They couldn't have been completely stupid. They couldn't have creatively decided for it to be this way 😅
if u wanna learn something then it doesn't matter how he is teaching you
btw thanks for the tutorial ❤️
What about part 2?
And wehre is Part 2?
what an important fucking video
Might as well watch this blindfolded
please use limiter actually I get pain in my ear.
FORD NAMBER ! 1
I mean, if you're not gonna do a screen capture, at least set the camera focus on the screen and not the back of the guy's head...
Massive respect for Joe and his mastery of dnb production but BIG thumbs down to the film crew of this video. SERIOUSLY!!!
Mean bass! Noisia vibes :D
joe ford vibes ;)
Noisia, Audio, SPL
eg Denied 2006 ruclips.net/video/lo0K7tj1mPw/видео.html
there are 1000 tunes with a basic up pitched reece. but the chorus and the frq shifter do the magic in joe's video.
damn the filming is so poor :( no screen capture, staring at this guys back, and only the keyboard is in focus.
Joe had problems with his screen capture on the day of filming.
@@ComputerMusicMag I guess it'd make sense to use one of the two cameras to record the display in maximum zoom then. Better luck next time!
watching this after Noisia videos is painful
what the fuck, why is the screen not being recorded. use OBS or fraps or something
Bad Camera but great video :)
Well I thought the tutorial was good anyway I don't need to copy the exact sound he explained enough for me to try out a few clever ways of doing things for my self to creaate my own sounds, seeing the screen was not really necessary...
Part 2?
Reminds me of the reese in Effin- Lettuce, I wonder if he was inspired by this
In Spectrasoul's Studio? instagram.com/p/BRq43-0A5vN/?taken-by=_spectrasoul_
Ah, it's the Shogun Audio Studio! :)
lols at all the comments. screen capture dude, sort it out before - its not fuckin hard
Those must be some pretty awesome headphones, not using these monitors...
It would have blasted his mic lol plus they are open back
Just have one camera pointing right at the screen in focus? Problem solved? Nah.. Rather film from half a room away, out of focus and behind someone's back. Nice and lazy way to force people to buy the magazine.
Sorry, but who thought that only filming Joe instead of the screen was a good idea? Even if you understand what he is doing, you need to see it. Smh..
As soon as we started to design it we ruined it
fuckin killer
get a bigger screen bro
5
14:31 a totally cool but useless shot of headphones.
you don't need to see his screen, just listen to what he says it is easy if you know what he is talking about instead of just copying his preset , That said that was pretty shit video framing.
I like the bit where I couldn't see fucking anything he did.
Are you any kin to Joe Mama?
I mean he sure has a cool haircut and shirt but you could have gotten rid of the annoying robot noises in the background...
wtf is his monitor so tiny lol
download reese preset...profit....
My eyes hurt from squinting
can't even see what he's doing..
omg it's 2018 we don't need over the shoulder angles. we have the technology. good info but damn it's hard to see what's going on. with them angles at times
seriously??? oh cmon!! i wanted to watch this. FUUUUCK!!
ZA WARUDO 11:51
This camera work gave me cancer
5 БАЛЛОВ
6:40 LOL
Thank you I missed tf out of that
Who cares about how its filmed, the sound is shit. I don't care at all how to make it, and what's worse is that it's a super simple sound to do.
that sound sux.....
skolioze masz
Skisłem XD
Joe "Hawk Eyes" Ford
The most shitty camera ever....
🤦🏻♂️
What the fuck? What do I care about his back? What use is that to anyone? Epic fail..
what the fuck is this
LOL that tiny ass screen tho.... LOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLO(LOL
worst camera ever, shame on you CMM
