      It didn't have a problem building boost, but the engine is too small to take advantage of the extra airflow. If you watch the boost gauge, it hardly even fell out of boost.
      Boost pressure is just a measure of restriction and one part of the equation.

      @@markjf__ who's eclipse are you talking about? I had a buddy we had his on the dyno, it was an awd 4cyl with methanol injection and a home made turbo. I remember it was 768hp at the wheels. We had gotten that thing to the point that even with the best arp studs our performance issue was that the studs were stretching at wide open throttle and coolant was getting past the head gasket. When I left the project they were going to try a different turbo to see if they could get more power just from making a more efficient turbo but they really were at the end of possibility for that block. They were going to switch it over to the V6 but I never saw it happen

    • @connorclucas
      @connorclucas 2 года назад +8

      I feel like even that was in the high 30s and not 80 psi. That was a actually drivable semi reliable engine though and not a track engine that was going to get rebuilt after every pass tho. I believe you could get 80 psi for a couple of runs out of an engine like that but I don't know why you would

    It's kind of interesting that the engine was able to run at those higher boost pressures. I was kind of expecting the engine to stall out from the air only being able to compress so much before it starts to air-pillow, or act like an air-spring in an air suspension system.

      Irl, there would be a compression ratio that would cause that to happen, BUT it wouldn't be as low as you might think.
      Gotta remember, atleast one of the other pistons is providing the force required to fully compress and ignite the air/fuel in any other piston, and full boost is usually achieved at full power, so there wouldn't be a lack of power at lower rpm, because there wouldn't be enough boost to create an air pillow.
      Just off the top of my head, I belive that it would be nearly impossible to create such a scenario (factors such as the strength of engine components and turbo size/exhaust flow are up to par) for simply that reason
      More power is created by the last cylinder(s) firing than is required to compres the air/fuel to the point of ignition, at any point of the Rev range.
      Though, there has to be some extremely high compression ratio, like unwordly high, that would create some other scenario.( a fucking black hole?) Or something that science had observed or considered. Although that would be impossible with today's technology, and prolly future technology.
      Like how strong of a engine would you need to withstand a compression ratio of, say, 1400^3/1?
      All of that is speculation though, as I am a highschool student with no prior experience in any form of physics or whatever else would help explain the workings of such a scenario

    • @samnangchea5025
      @samnangchea5025 Год назад

      I know it's an old comment, but it's not actually the displacement that affects peak cylinder pressures, so regardless if 300cc or 5000cc, peak pressure is going to be relatively consistent across both engines.
      But for the record, peak diesel cylinder pressures usually peak around 950-1000 psi, but a well built petrol race engine will also be able to achieve such pressures (especially forced induction).
      That being said, obviously that 1000 psi is going usually drive the wheels, and not the compressor but, just wanted to add that in.
