    Going to the 2 piece aluminum body construction will HOPEFULLY allow Gavin to up production numbers. I saw an interview with him a while back saying that was the goal and to make them much easier to produce. This one is definitely on the must buy list.

    I 100% agree that otf knives are much safer than almost any other design. If one of my daughters runs up to me while I’m opening a box or a similar situation I can instantly close the blade without risk of slicing my fingers in the process. Unfortunately you sacrifice a little bit of reliability due to debris like Pennie’s and junk building up inside the frame. But in the right atmosphere like around home or in your “Sunday best clothes” they are fantastic.

    I finally own a Hawk model C. I paid 1500 after searching and waiting and searching and finally done waiting.
    No comparison to ANY other OTF!
    My 2nd favorite OTF is the Microtech Dirac. Small super cool snappy EDC.
    Not a Deadlock and not supposed to be.
    I don’t realize a difference in the carry despite the difference in size and weight. I wear light hiking pants year round. Sometimes I carry both because they are both super cool… BUT the Hawk is the Bugatti of OTFs

    • @paulbosley6448
      @paulbosley6448 Год назад

      Yes, I got a dark matter fatcarbon with satin blade and hardware. Previous main daily was a Dirac standard stonewashed. Deadlock is amazing. Dirac is still awesome. And in the rotation. I constantly and consistently recommend the Dirac. Great size and weight. If you can pull it off the deadlock is as close to perfect as any knife I've ever owned. It's pricey and that means even the few people that get one likely won't use it.
      I guess mine is going to help make theirs worth more. I'm using mine, it cuts better than any otf dagger I've ever owned and I don't see myself parting with it, ever:)

    I’ve been waiting for this! 🙌
    I just picked a Model C. Pricey, but I had to have it. No regrets. I’ve had quite a few OTFs. Mostly MIcrotech and one Guardian Tactical. The later great action, but wasn’t crazy about the handle and pocket clip. The Hawk Deadlock has amazing action and solid lockup with no blade play. And high build quality!

    My OTF story. I bought a Boker USA OTF just because: I could, and I thought it would be fun. Then I discovered how useful it was! Wow. The number of times I needed a knife I could deploy with one hand to cut rope, tape, etc. It has become my every day carry knife. I live in TN where most knife laws have been repealed.

    I will never forget the first time someone flipped out cause I had used one. I do apt maintenance and we are always fixing the rope in the pool for the floats. So one day my coworker and his mother in law and son were there and I had to make a cut with an old lightning otf. The kid said wow! That's awesome! And the grandma flipped out. You should not have that blahblahblah. Well I did and I do but ok my bad. Stopped using it for maintenance tasks after that day.

    I wouldn't get your hopes up for a Ti built version. Gavin said in an interview with Levon that Ti was the wrong material for construction because of galling. They will continue to use it for inlays and such though. Also the bump up in aluminum is helped by type 3 hard coat anodizing that makes for a tougher, smoother, and harder handle than any other aluminum handle you'll find and allows for the extremely smooth deployment.
    And the craziest thing about the perfection of the blade is that every blade is ground and sharpened by hand by Gavin.

    As somewhat of an armed combat enthusiast, i can say basically with authority that this is not a good weapon. I suppose it's serviceable. But there is no guard and minimal waist. If you stabbed with it, there is a not insignificant chance your hand would slide up that blade. It's also not contoured for ice pick grips. Its just not designed with that in mind.
    It definately looks cool. I totally bought one.
    For a neat automatic that functions perfectly as a weapon, the EX AO5 wharncliffe is a pretty awesome knife.

    This is a dagger, not a knife. Otf doesn't make it a weapon, the dagger blade does. If it had a knife blade, i would agree that it wasn't designed as a weapon. But the double-edged dagger profile means it was specifically designed with combat in mind, whether you like that fact or not.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  2 года назад +1

      I use knives that range anywhere from $20 - $1500. I've reviewed knives worth up to $5000. The Deadlock doesn't cost more than the Ultratech because it can cut better. It costs more because more time and effort go into its construction. Whether or not you or anyone else values this extra polish/construction quality is entirely up to you.

    • @hoguemusic9706

      Probably because it's custom made by hand. It won't do the job any better than a less expensive bit set, but it definitely cost more to make. Again, save yourself the mental distress and just don't buy it.

    Being that Protechs are ots autos but for the money their precise fit and finish is perfect and the best bang for the money even with their lowest line. For $1200 I rather spend it on ammo or a new firearm. That’s just my honest opinion and probably the majority of potential of people except for the ones who have alot more disposable income that wouldn’t blink an eye to spend this much on true collectors that want absolute perfection.
