Will this Switchblade Buy Me Happiness? The Hawk Deadlock OTF Review.

- The Hawk Deadlock is often known as the ultimate switchblade. But can buying an object like a sick OTF knife bring me happiness? Capitialism says yes. This review examines what scratches and actually using your grail knife do to it's resale value. Do you even have $1000 saved for emergencies? Grant and Gavin Hawk have spent years designing and perfecting their Deadlock. It is the only solid out the front knife known to the modern tactical man. In this long, bloated review film I compare it's traits to other extremely tactical knives like the Microtech Ultratech Bountry Hunter Boba Fett Star Wars knife, the Benchmade Pagan, the AKC F-16, the Hawk MUDD Auto, the Boker Kalashnikov Dessert Warrior, and the Protech Don. This video may not provide answers if material objects can bring happiness, but it will waste exactly 14:15 minutes of your 4th of July Weekend while you're sitting at home.

You're incredibly skilled in the art of reminding everyone they might be taking all of this knife shit too seriously, and then showing us that you aren't so different and can nerd out just as hard as the next guy. I get the feeling, through the hoppy mist of sarcasm and melancholy, that you just want us to be righteous to one another.
So dry, and informative. My soul has been chafed, but I enjoyed it.
Part of the knife hobby is being chafed!
Nobody:
AdvancedKnifeBro: "the blade looks like it has a slight cave inward... is that a hollow grind? I don't know, I'm not really a knife guy"
This made me look to the comments and its the first comment😂😂
It's called a recurve
“I don’t know, I’m not a ‘knife guy’”🤣
"Soft screws and Loctite"
That joke, along with the Virginia backyard bamboo forest, will remain in our hearts long after they've been impaled.
Figured it was about time for a remix of that joke.
Thank you for making me buy a deadlock. It is one of the greatest achievements in my life. Right along side urinating in the park in front of Buckingham palace and urinating in the national mall in Washington DC both in the same week. That’s a calendar week, not just a seven day window.
God bless America, and God bless You, AKB.
You had me at “Honda hood weave”....😂
“We call those cars Miatas” lol
What, no batoning? I feel cheated.
I’ve already scratched the clip and dinged the tip, what more do you people want???

@@AdvancedKnifeBro Batoning, obviously.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro maybe do like John Lennon by sticking a pen in your heart and spill it out right on stage.
You seriously have the best knife channel…. I have no idea how you do not have 5 million subscribers…. Keep up the good work
Good review as usual! If I ever buy a knife that expensive, I would use it every day. No way I'm paying that much just to keep it in a drawer.
"What you have built up in your head is what you get out of it."
Truly one of the philosopher greats.
Oh my God what a day!!! Mericas Bday & AKB smashes with a new video!!!! I'm happier than Buck Medley when Lynn Thompson calls and says he has a new product he wants him to go fishing with!!!
One day I’m gonna tell my kids I’m Buck Medley. Why do you think I’m growing my hair out?
@@AdvancedKnifeBro honestly brother I thought you were getting ready to be a stunt double for Stallone but that makes way more sense. I have a firm Theory that Buck is actually Lynn Thompson's nephew from his favorite sister. Who Lynn begrudgingly employs.
"Very unnamed but very Spyderco like companies" killed me harder than the grailbois did themselves after seeing you actually use this knife for things
Say what?
None of my 26 Microtechs have blade play when they are disassembled.
I’ll try that mod.
I advise you to stop reassembling your knives, this should cut down on blade play. It will also render all of your knives as bloody useless. I hope this advice helps.
I love helping people! 😂🤣😷🤗❤️👍🖖🤘👋
Chad has always been a forward-thinking chap.
I have 8 Microtech knives and none of mine rattle either
My microtech halo has zero blade play when deployed
Can you add a blue line for weight? I got a disease, and the only cure, is more blue lines.
That’s called addiction.
OMG, I read it with Christopher Walken's voice.
We need 4K footage of ganzos. They are the only ones I can purchase with my credit card.
Excellent video as always dude, stoked to see you got one of these. I am paid in full for a batch 8 Deadlock and I'm quite stoked for it. This is pretty much the ultimate OTF and I tell myself after this one I'll never need another 😅 keep up the awesome work!
Did you get your knife yet? I ordered one back in August and received it in December. No regrets on the purchase at all. I was just surprised they sent it in a cheap felt bag. No biggie but something that expensive should get a nice box or sheath to store it in. And some online sites like Knife Center sell Hawk OTFs for $2000 when they do get them in stock, which isn't often. They had 3 knives recently and sold all 3 pretty quickly. I don't know how patents work but I read the other OTF manufacturers are waiting for the Hawk patent to expire so they can copy the Deadlock model.
Your mix of comedy along with real world info, and honest opinion are reasons why I watch your channel...I am starting a collection...my wallet and I would like to thank/blame you for your content and your RUclips reviews!
I could say so much about this video all of it good. Instead I will say good job and thank you. Hope you are well AKB
Damn, $1000 bucks ? I gotta about 1000 better ways to spend that money, nice dry review, this is the reason I support you!!! Chris Reeves left the stage over 3 years ago and forgot to tell the knife community, there are a lot of refunds coming due.
If you carry around a $1000 switchblade, someone with a $100 switchblade is going to mug you for it.
@@RedSquirrelEater 10$ switch blade or 200$gun

Can you explain the whole chris reeve thing?
This video is hilarious and informative. You tackled so many aspects of the knife hobby, especially with autos, knife snobs, and the scalpers of the secondary markets. I recently traded a good friend of mine a strider sng for a small sebenza. It was the Prometheus Design Werx Edition, and originally I couldn’t bring myself to carry it. Now that it’s back with me, I’ve carried it everyday. Getting caught up in the whole resale value thing can be a bit much. I like to think I’ve narrowed my collection down to what I like, what I’ll carry, and only a few knives that I enjoy owning but won’t carry (ex- the full titanium-bladed Benchmade Emerson 970).
Good knives, great beer, and AMAZING commentary! What’s not to love about your channel?!
Wow... this was one outstanding review. I knew you were really fond of that knife so I knew this would be a good one. I really love how you can take a 1300 switch blade through some use. It’s a beautiful knife that I have yet to buy but I will definitely get one. I think of all OTFs this is “the” one to have. Great job man I really appreciate the effort you put in this one.
Actually I put mine through much more use:

As well as using it daily

Newish watcher I had you saved & added but youtube never shows me the new vids. I think you channel is great my kind of humor. Just got the bounty hunter coming in the mail. For my bday that was on national star wars day. Can't wait to see more videos from you.
What a cool knife. I'm still kind of a sub-$100 knife guy, but I can appreciate a $1000 knife. I'll probably never own one, but I'm happy that they exist.
That used to be me 5 years ago. However having this channel has given me unnatural urges.
This video is excellent. Nice work my friend. I call you friend as I have been watching your stuff forever, but it's still weird. I somehow missed this video, probably because I wasn't considering a deadlock until now.
I have an unused, marbled CF, heat treated Ti model B if interested
This is the best knife channel for people who own Miatas.
"fills the hole for about 24 hours" LMAO! Great review. My batch 9 coming soon.
Mark I was in bed watching this video and I dropped my phone on my stomach and my body heat was just so that I hit the “report video” button and checked the “child abuse” box. It didn’t submit the complaint but god damn have you ever noticed how close we constantly teeter on the edge of destruction? Anyway, happy 4th.
No child was harmed in the making of this video. But their future college fund might be.
Advanced Knife Bro no kidding. I wouldn’t pay half that to get my twin sister out of a Turkish prison.
She shouldnta got caught- that’s my take.
Your description of how the knife feels and how it makes you feel was legendary. I've had that with a few too.
I ask this question to myself too much. Great video thanks for taking the time to make it.
Fantastic video. I'm new here, but you made that 14 minutes fly by. Very entertaining..
Thank you! Check out my new model C deadlock video that came out early this week if you haven’t! Have a good one!
OTF 's look like fun to play with. For over $1200 I can think of a lot of things that are fun. Cool knife , good presentation.
like Gavin himself will tell you, there's a price point on anything in life for everyone. I don't wear watches and therefore don't appreciate a fine Rolex like a watch guy might. I'm fine driving a 30,000 Nissan and some prefer a 200,000 Lambo. Big deal.
Damn! I just have one on my way and found this! BEST REVIEW EVER! Laugh my ass off. Woke up the wife! Awesome thanks 🙏
I’ve got two:
If you wanted to know what Ti looks like in your hands and pants, you should’ve chosen the Ti piercing.
The only thing that holds less resale value is AKB merchandise. But then who wants to buy something the previous owner did unsavory things with while using! 😂
As always, fun video. 👍🏽
I really like the clip. Glad to see after all this time you still enjoy knives enough to spend that kinda money on a blade. I only ever spent that much once.
Never laughed so many times during a knife review. Please keep doing what you're doing.
Made my other half watch this. She hates that beautiful OTF sound. Mine sits among the other Oregon brand collection; though mine is of the non Pagan variety. Bravo to you for achieving the pinnacle purchase of OTF's. Damn fine knife.
I’m always walking around the house schnickting- I think everyone’s just gotten used to it.
Tell her I’m sorry!
@@AdvancedKnifeBro I've compromised (< spelled that right for the first time) for being able to blast my music as loud as I want without interruption. Still working on the rule: "If I'm in a room with the door closed; don't knock unless it's life-threatening."
Congratulations you mad man! I'm stoked for you that you've finally got one of these for yourself
8:42 That thar's one mighty nice pocketclip, very advanced😎 Like them beers (at 8:25) too😋 Knife's alright bro👍

I just found this channel, but I like it. Subscribed
You sir, are a genius, and a poet.
I’ve always wanted one of these. Great review. Funny as always!
Hands down my favorite knife review on the internet
"The Gypsy Woman said I would die in a dessert"..............Ohhhhhh
"Toolry." Yesss~ great new word. Very apropos. 👌
8.41 minutes in I am out of beer. I will watch the rest tommorow. You got me on solid lock up. Engineering has price.
I feel like every knife collector needs to have at least one grail knife, and you chose a very nice one! That's a sweet knife! Seriously, the aftermarket prices on the desert warrior doughnut knives are ridiculous, but I guess people are willing to pay 3-4 times the markup.
This is one of your best reviews Bro
I need one of these. Maybe once I start pulling down that Disco San Andreas scratch!
Gotta admit, you're one of the most low-key funny guys on RUclips.
This reminds me so much of Regular Car Reviews, just... it's for knives! awesome
Just wanted to say nice review, keep up the great work, all the way from Baton Rouge.
There was something so appetizing about watching the cardboard being sliced
So much good here I can’t wait for the full feature length AKB summer blockbuster release.
great review , I'm not too interested in otf's but your review made me laugh out loud at least 4 times. I love it. thanks.
Love your videos and dry humor! Keep it up!!!
I think you made the right choice on the marbled CF
Watching for third time because my batch 9 is back at the shop for a second adjustment. I miss it. Love it but mine has a bit of play. So the adjustments. Your videos are awesome btw. Maybe review a norseman next?
One of your best knife bro! Great writing. Thanks!
Thank you for make the year 2020 tolerable, love your reviews 🔪
DAMN Son! that is one sweet ass knife. The Hawk deadlock is OK also, Lemme know when we can expect a review of the AK Donut.
A detail you might’ve forgotten to mention is that it’s pretty much a felony to carry in most of the West coast because it’s an OTF and giant and just that awesome
not knife related but just clicked on your instagram and looked at a pile of DVDS you were showcasing. Did Spookies get an official release?! Years ago I bought a region free DVD player and being able to watch spookies was one of my main motivations. One of the best films of all time!
Yep. vinegar syndrome released a Blu-ray of it. Check out their website sometime.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro Yup Bluray, very happy! I have a few vinegar syndrome releases but dont check them out as regularly as I should since a bulk of their releases are the old exploitation stuff. David Hess is as far as I go with that genre!
Couldn’t beat that halfway to black Friday sale they do every year. Everything was half price, so I blew $150
@@AdvancedKnifeBro I'll have to keep an eye out for that next year. I re-added myself to the mailing list. There's a few blind buys that sound promising and for half price I'd probably do it.Scream/Shout factory has been really bland lately btw. Honda hood weave is nice
“A touch more than my Dad paid in child support in the 80s” hit me right in the feels.
“Rattles like a Microtech” should be their official slogan. “The hundreds you spend DON’T go to quality control!”
I can’t believe you actually got it. I’m pretty sure this is the most expensive knife you’ve reviewed yet. What’s next? Stan Wilson NFF?
Waiting this coming week for my Hawk Deadlock Auto, carbon fiber marbled scales, hardened stainless steel screws, titanium hardware, premium CPM 20CV double sharpened edge.
Congrats!

for me. Killer knife though. Be safe bro! Happy 4th! 🇺🇸🎆🎇🎊🎉❤️🤍💙
Lol! This is a great review/commentary. I am laughing my ass off! I have the money to go buy some knives that I think are going to go up in value within a year or two. I can't wait to post them online and charge an asshole tax. Ya baby!!
Nice slip on the 97! Where can I get one like it?
Finally a Narrator that is more distinguished than the product!
When I finally make it big, imma get one of these. If they let me.
Looks cool, I have to live vicariously through you as flick knives, butterfly knives, automatic knives and gravity knives are illegal over here...dare you to batton with it!
I feel that in terms of knife reviewers you have a “Toolery” to “User” preference spectrum. Metal Complex is on the “Toolery” end, Pete is on the “User” end, you are in between both worlds.
Seeing you EDC the Deadlock made me rush to the frig to drown my sorrows with some Voodoo Ranger IPA😭
COBRATEC made in Waxahatchie Tx OTF knives D2 steel awesome guarantee and under $180 for their most expensive knife .
also you should review WILD TURKEY 101 while testing any cold steel knife , i don't care which one i just like watching people slice their fingers off.
This guy's dialogue is hilarious! "We call those sorts of cars a Miata"
The ultimate letter opener.
Love it, even though it’s worth more than half of my collection.
Much more than a letter opener
m.ruclips.net/video/XPt6rOyYUns/видео.html
Seriously glad to see a video up though, I love you- I mean I love them...the videos.... not you.... probably...
Right before he said Miata, I was thinking of my Miata. Nice Jedi mind trick.
Not everyone's the same ,,,but buying mine sure helped. I still got that "Favourite Toy" feeling and keep It on the night stand apart from the others. Eveyone has their knife.
EDIT - Your into Stone Brews it seems? When I was young I drank Arrogant Bastard religiously. It's all the rage were im from.
Stones pretty good!
Yet they give loans for automobiles and not necessarily knives.🤔
But the credit card is a loan for whatever you want, no strings attached... Well, there is the stifling interest and the relentless collection agencies, but that’s my life. You have your freedom. Right?
Love the Miata Shoutout! 👍
As nice as the Deadlock is, it is probably the ultimate “so what “ knife. As much as most of us like OTF’s, they are at best, light duty knives when it comes to everyday chores. They are probably decent weapons, but not ever having been in a knife fight, I can’t vouch for that. The fact is that a $20 lockback or $30 liner lock is just as tight as a Deadlock, and much easier to clean too, hence a far more sensible tool.
I beg to differ my friend. None of the commercially made (Spyderco for example) folders I own are as tight as my Deadlock. The Deadlock is not merely 'tighter than X knife', it's literally as tight a a fixed blade when open. I speak from my own experience.
Entertaining as always, nice knife too!
"What you have built up in your head is what you get out of it". See, now that's what I'm talking about. AK Bro just comes up with little pearls of truth, just like Socrates, but with knives.
Thanks dude!!
Only OTF I've ever lusted for. Unfortunately it would cost me around $101k...$1k for the knife and $100k to grease the palms of some legislators to make them legal to own here...
I've got a general unfounded disdain for OTF/automatic knives but that's some Ken Griffey Jr.'s swing type deployment. Pure sex.
I love my microtech but I do a lot of work on ladders so it's nice having such an effortless deployment and retraction. I actually dropped my pm2 from about 2 stories up and it broke the tip off on the concrete. I was in a hurry, only had one hand and when I hit the compression lock it fell out of my hand. But if I'm being honest, I saw a pm2 with a button lock and that would probably work almost as good for me.
Great video about a knife, but also some honest observations on the human condition that I appreciate. “What you have built up in your head is what you get out of it” “It fills that hole for about 24 hours” - we have biochemical responses to objects (pleasure , pain, desire, satisfaction, dissonance). Fuck, I have to go buy something!
