It is a solution to a null issue that is based on people's OCD mainly. Blade play is actually a good thing in an OTF as it gives you a little looser tolerances in case of buildup of debris inside the chassis so the blade will still deploy and retract successfully. None of my OTF knives blade play has ever caused a performance issue
I would take this knife over a Microtech every day of the week. Hawk encourages you to take the knife apart and clean it and even provides the tools and videos to do it. Microtech voids your warranty if you do it. Hawk has one of the best customer service departments in the business and Microtech has one of the worst if not the worst in the business. Yes, they are expensive but worth every penny.
I've got a Microtech OTF and I couldn't take it apart even if I wanted to. I don't have the tool that's needed to take out their screws. I think only Microtech can do that.
This is definitely on my list. I’ve been after one of these for a while! Great video.. I honestly can’t disagree with your thoughts on it’s short comings. I still want one!
I don't buy the intimidation aspect. This knife isn't any more terrifying than a kitchen knife. If someone near me is " terrified" when I deploy my otf, that's their problem that they need to fix. Not mine.
What do you do if you deploy it into something hard and the knife goes into the handle? (I say this because with OTF’s when you deploy it into something hard then the blade goes into the handle and you can’t use it unless you pull the blade ALL the way out of the handle)
All you have to do is given a whipping motion with your wrist, and you will be able to grab the blade from there and pull it all the way up to the deployed position, and it'll be good from there. I've done this many times with my Halo V, Dirac, and my Combat Troodon as fun to see how far these OTF's can penatrate. Let me tell you this, the Microtech Halo V scares the hell out of me with the single action engineering. Realistically it would go through half your hand at the very least 😳😳
For >$1k it needs to be perfect and it's not. It is close though. I too would like to see it cleaned up a bit and for the clip to be passive pressure as opposed to fulcrum. Other than that, I love it. The symmetry and deadlock achievements are a game changer that should make microtech take note. It would be great to see them create a mass production model once they have gotten the design to a more final state
Size doesn't bother me at all, I like the feel of it in my pocket. Love my batch 9 the longer I have, the more I like. I do carry my Ultratech way more truth be told. The price makes it easier. The size is fine for me though. Cool review either way.
I’m with you on this one, the size is perfect. I can’t imagine it being smaller. I also own a batch 9 and just like you the longer I have it the more I love it!
Not in a million years would I pay for one of those. It's ridiculous. Seriously what makes it so valuable? The material? No. The brand? Anyone who buys one is probably never ever going to use it. It's the equivalent of an old rich man buying a super car and never taking it out of the garage.
My point is this. If people are buying them than it is worth it. Some people won't spend over 20 bucks on a knife. And they say the same thing you just did, but with a lower price. We all have different budgets and some are just further into the hobby.
Should be illegal... has no common functionality... to own maybe but to carry.... no... why would you if not for intimidation sake.... knives like this are why stupid knife laws exist all over the world.....
Fearmongering politicians and their vapid, drooling constituents are the reason for stupid knife laws. This has the same functionality as any other knife on the market. If you can’t see that, YOUR right to carry a knife should be rescinded.

That is a very good point, my Microtech Halo V has almost no blade play at all but just enough to excell at what you're saying.
Great review! I have one coming my way pretty soon. It’s definitely a polarizing knife, you either love it or you don’t.
That Dirac always gets me! Nice video thank you

@@johnherne8489 I think you can buy the tools on eBay. I had a machinist make mine for me.
Cobratec factory tells you to clean them too ...
Would you take 5 microtechs over this though? Because that's how many you could buy for one of these.
They are very cool blades.. thanks for sharing 👍
My Hydra has wear on the blade from deployment and it drives me nuts. I love the finish though with the CF. Looks great.🍻

Mind the gap baby! Also I was waiting for the point when you noticed the steel billboard on the side.

I mean it's not perfect, either. I handled one at Blade 2019 that had play. The others were good, though
Blade to handle ratio doesnt look good to me. Action looks very nice though
1800$
If you could own (legally) a otf where I come from, the Hawk deadlock would be the one 👍😄
The steel is a 20CV... they call this out on the handle not on the blade. Kind of weird tho
I found that later in the video haha! I knew it was a good steel.
they did the same on a MUDD I had.
Beautiful uniqe piece
Grail in the sense that I will always want and never own
yea man me as well...i really want one but i doubt i ever will.....

awesome looking knife. great lock. wish canada wasn't so silly with there knife laws
Buy a CNC and make one for you.

I live in North Carolina I can’t own a automatic knife
Really? USA!, i can own them over here in Croatia, Europe
Never trust anyone who prefers looks over functionality and ergonomics.
I’m sorry but it don’t look like a 1k worth
Sweet knife but $1k+ is outta my budget
The blade finish and the gray button and pocket clip make it look fake. Looks like a toy. Not impressed for the prize.
Or the New SOG Pentagon Otf, for much less
if ANYONE has a deadlock they might wanna get rid of i'm ready to buy, please message me!
