Neat, thanks not only for sharing, but for designing it to be straightforwardly maintainable by the owner.
and not cost thousands...
@@guthrie1960 Something with this level of machining and an expected niche market is hard to not go over thousands, even when not made in USA.
Your wizardry knows no bounds. Nice work, Gavin. -Ben
That’s a helluva design and the fact you took that completely apart and showed everyone how so easily and explained everything so throughly was very impressive great job 👍🏻
Your dad is going to be pissed when he finds out your disassembled his pocket watch to make a knife.
This would be level of engineering prowess that I would expect to see if Patek Philippe was to get into knife making. Mr. Hawk, you have raised the bar to it’s true & proper noble apex. Your name should become the gold standard in the industry against which all others are judged. And as if this achievement wasn’t a crowning one, in the true spirit of dauntless Yankee ingenuity, the subsequent generations of your superlative knives promise to defy the illusory mandate of irreducible complexity by streamlining this already elegant system even further - delivering equivalent function & improved durability with significantly fewer components. Stunning. A watershed moment in the history of the craft.
Exactly. Peerless, not even close to any competition.
I heard these are $1k to 1.8k, that seems like an absolute steal in my opinion, but then again a grand seiko is also a genius mechanism and can be had for $6k. Difference is their knives are handmade
I now agree on the price of these even more. The amount of thought put into this product is amazing and inspiring.
Good engineering is taking a complex problem and solving it with a simple, elegant solution. I'm in awe of this design. Amazing work!
I don't think I'l ever own one but I really enjoyed the video. I love knives on many levels but, for me, foremost as mechanisms. What you and your dad do is amazing.
Thanks for sharing, I cant wait for Batch 4! I appreciate the prompt responses to questions too! A class act for sure. Very nice work!!
What a creative mechanism. I love it.
I love watching these types of videos and this one is better than any other videos I have ever watched. Beautiful design and I’m a new fan.
I spent probably 4 hours of my life to just watch this video!
there’s so much interesting to see in this knife, i really have to start saving something of my student budget to get one!
thank you for designing AND sharing the mechanisms of this awesome piece of mechanical art!
kind regards from austria!
Very cool engineering. I am always curious how things worked from automobiles, firearms and now to otf's. And yours sir is unmatched! Bravo to your innovation and passion to make things better 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
As someone who has been following this project from the beginning and an owner of one of the prototypes. I found this unbelievably awesome! I need a second deadlock!!!
Just received my batch 7 single edge, graphite with the titanium colored accents. I agree with the soft fire.Man this thing is sweet best OTF by far. Great craftsmanship.
I just recently learned about you guys after years of being obsessed with OTF's. The engineering here is fascinating. You've redesigned almost every standard element of most OTF's to achieve something really cool. Can't wait to see the deadlock in John Wick C4. :)
This man is pure genius you’re the future of our automatic OTF knives
Now that is what I call a working piece of art! Nice knife Gavin! One day I will buy one but for now I'm just waiting for them to build my Benchmade Infidel Auto Knife. My first OTF! Thanks for an outstanding product and awesome video!
That level of machining and attention to detail is like fine art to me. I hope to be able to afford one some day.
Impressive engineering and execution. It's knives like these that are making me want to start collecting again!
Gavin, you are a genius. Period. Congrats on this work of art!!!
I love quality engineering, and this is a fantastic example. Kudos!
Just got one of the Batch 9 Deadlocks. As awesome of a knife as I can imagine! Gavin, you guys are geniuses! I will have to look into the stronger firing spring. Would like to try that out.
This knife is worth every penny and is more than just a knife! Words can’t explain but when I first handled mine & deploying and retracting it for the first time, I felt the heart, blood, sweat , tears and workmanship/care & countless hours that went into this knife design/build. The action is absolutely better than I imagined and I was already expecting it to be perfect. The switch/trigger to the action of the blade is absolutely unexplainable. So smooth and precise, smooth and clean break on the switch. Couldn’t stop smiling, it’s therapeutic fidgeting with it. A must have for any knife enthusiast! This is one bada$$ knife , keeper for life. Will open it up one day but too busy enjoying playing with it at the moment.
Craftsmanship, craftsmanship, CRAFTSMANSHIP!! I love it! Beautifully done by you and your Pops. Now I just have to save my pennies, but its worth it for something built like this.
Pure knife bliss..Gavin/Grant are heroes to the knife community
My life will never be complete untill i own one of these exquisite pieces of craftsmanship.
Nicest dual action knife I’ve ever seen.. what a design. Awesome work Gavin
I have 3 of your dead locks love them ! clean them all the time ! Would highly recommend this knife the craftsmen ship is top notch
You should come back on RUclips. Very fascinating engineering.
Thanks for this video. I have been longing to see the internals of this knife.
Beautifully engineered and well machined. That's coming from an fellow experienced machinist.
At first it seemed like it was a complicated mechanism but it's actually a pretty simple design. I like the way you actually put an insert where the screws go for the clip, handle and button plus loc-tite it unlike other manufacturers that just stick a screw into a thin piece of metal or worse, a softer material.
This is a clever design and honestly shows how little innovation there is in the knife industry. I’ve wanted one of these since they were announced and eventually will grab one. Hopefully once you’re done with a bunch of them and you get bored, a major company will license the design off of you. Your attention to detail is really high.
Loved the video Gavin, thank you for sharing!
Now that's a beauty :)
Classy knife. Perfect material and color combination.
Very ingenious mechanism!!! I wish you great success. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Microwaves, Velcro, and now this.
You sir, are a space alien.
Love it.
Another fantastic and innovative design from the Hawk Brothers! Well done!
GPKNIVES
Its a father & son team actually
Still loving my Model A over two years later!
Merry Christmas to everyone and may God bless you and your families and that is a beautiful well made knife
Love the blade! A lot of thought was put into it and it shows. Thanks
Brilliant engineering dude. It works and looks like magic.
Wow! I expected it to be the same as the desert knifeworks sandshark. I was way wrong! That's frigging awesome. I need to buy one of these now. Excelant design
Well done. Terrific engineering. Thanks for putting this up.
23:43 Thats what I used to say. Wow im getting old... I love this video. Not many people just allow you to go in and clean it out bow a days. Hope to buy this someday! 😀
Works like a Swiss watch. Ingenious design. Well done.
This knife is engineered ingeniously, and i hope to buy one in the future!
Thanks for the awesome video, love seeing the internal mechanism.
I love everything u guys do ur like a a revolution in knife design a quilty
So awesome. Amazing design and ingenuity
I do half to say that this was engaging to watch I would never be able to afford one of your knives. but the engineering is wonderful thanks it was fun.
Great job with your design. I like how you designed your own system. Sweet...
I've never been particularly interested in this knife until I saw this video. Very cool! I'll be signing up for the next batch : ) also, great vid!
Edit: just went to your site to see there's no shipping to HI : (
I really hope I'm blessed enough to get one of these someday. They are amazing. God bless.
Played with other POS OTF’s but this seems a game changer, cant wait to get one.
It's a beautiful piece of design. Thanks for the explanation.
Best knife ever. In every way. Fit form function and styling. Bar none!
Gavin you know how they say think outside the box it's nice to know people like you Never Knew The Box Existed to begin with thank you for doing revolutionary things I'm a HuGe Fan DuDe!
I am so jealous of this knife I hope I can afford one one day. Brilliant idea much respect
thanks for sharing that Gavin!!!! I think I need one!!
Wow this OTF is unlike anything else, please let me get on a list! I would love to add this to my collection!
This man built this intricate, Ingenious knife design, solving the most irritating problem with the coolest style knife in the world...
Also this man - " de-locking mechanism "🤣🤣🤣
The system is nice, the design of the handle is hugly!
Man, wish these were legal in my state. The engineering on these is stellar!!
It’s even more fascinating when you know the magic behind it. Thank you so much for your contribution to knife history. True masters.
You guys are mad scientist (engineers/ designers)!!!
Oh my....Gavin, i need one of these. Sooo amazing!
Love my Buck Marksman and would love to finally win a bid on a pre-owned Gen Lee. Hoping this Deadlock someday, becomes a well executed production knife to fit my budget, which like your knife has very close tolerances.
A work of engineering genius.....bravo!
As a machinist, I have a real appreciation for things like this. Saying the mechanism is a work of art would be an insulting understatement. It is truly a thing of beauty beyond words.
The first time I watched the video, my mouth hung, gaped open and I instantaneously wanted one. I have since watched this at least a half-dozen more times and still cannot get over what I'm seeing.
As much as I want one, I'm concerned over issues of legality. Unless there was a configuration that offered a spring "assist" on the open action (or even just enough to release the lock), I may not be able to get one, short of moving to another state.
BeastMan617 Just don't do anything illegal enough that you'd get searched lol
You can still own one. My state has some of the toughest laws on automatic knives and I own several, if you just want to collect them you wont have problems. I've had all mine shipped right to my front door with zero problems, its when you conceal carry these that things can get dicey.
@@petergriffin383 Exactly.
Your girlfriend is laughing at you cause you are always losing your balls.... That was priceless 😂😂😂
The internal design of this knife is an eloquent solution of the problem, with fewer parts than expected and a simple reinforcing symmetry that absolutely brilliant!
Excellent work sir,
cheers.
🐉
thats a great design i must get me one of those thanks for showing how it works
wow..... that is a very thoughtful engineering... great work...... i want this....
I think this is the first time I have heard someone say to not oil the knife. Incredible engineering, it's inspiring.
Some serious genius here. I am on the list now. Dang. That’s worth some money.
A very cool video. Your switchblades are a very nice piece of engineering. It’s too bad they are not legal in Australia- except if you’re a cop or in the military.
Thanks for the vid, stuff like this is great to see!
Ingenious and exquisite engineering..
What an incredible mind to make such a beautiful knife.
Absolutely fucking amazing! I can't legally carry this, but I've never needed anything as bad as I need this! Fantastic innovation and execution!
Gavin, You are an amazing Genius
amazing work. my dream OTF..
Amazing work mate. 🙏🙏🙏
Sadly I'm prohibited to own such loveliness, but it doesn't stop me dreaming of such things, beautiful design and manufacture, complements to the creator
I'm 30. Thats the coolest knife I've seen in real life. Got a real harry potter golden compass vibe.
Wow. This is a real beauty.
It would be cool to see if you could make a side open auto with a deadlock and a half serrated blade that is saltwater friendly with a large button and safety. I'm with the US Coast Guard and that could be very beneficial to us for cutting lines while holding a rescue line.
Gavin, why aren't you working for NASA so we could be exploring other galaxies and meeting aliens... you are a genius.
What? And have a real job! I woke up at 11 today. . .I wonder if NASA would let me do whatever I want, when ever I want?
Oh, and how can you be so sure I'm not already working on a space ship?
This is amazing. I really want to get my hands on the Model C. Does the Model C have bearing rollers under the button like the Model A? That's a feature I didn't catch until watching this video. Sounds so smooth!
Well, you are obviously a genius and an artist. What is it like for you to live among mortals?
I have one and it’s my favorite otf I own
Dreamin' and drooling!
You can take the blade out and change it . All you gotta do is take out the round circular thing the spring attaches to. And the blade slides right out . You just have to turn it upside down and tap it .
Unbelievable engineering!!! Perfect knife!!! Yes it's difficult, but it works better than microtech!!!
I really wish I was this smart.
This is an amazing piece of machinery. I hope to own one at some point.
But the best part of this video is the GF laughing when you got cut lol
You, Sir, are a genius.
Outstanding!
2 true inventors!
Roughly how much is the third batch gonna run. I love this knife and see the only way to get one is sign up for the next batch. I don't wanna sign up and then possibly have to back out if it's more than I expect it to be.
