As a former Bishop - you have to ask yourself the following: 1. Is this a taking machine - taking your money? 2. How do you know where or if the gift is going to the reciepent or to Church leaders? 3. Another way for Church Leaders to get more members money Great video.... about time!!!
I already have my Christmas shopping done and just changed my nail color to a glittery red. I’m happy you too are starting early-let the festivities begin! 🌲❄️ 🎁
I always give directly to the local Salvation Army and Food bank. I suppose this is good because it shows people what legitimate charities work throughout the world. I have also given to LDS Humanitarian Aid in the past... It kind of reminds me of the first Earth day. My best friend and I were busy cleaning around our school while a student was speaking at a podium about what we all should do . The church is the guy at the podium and the hard working charities and those who donate are doing the actual work . Lol... At least charities do get publicity.
But they have no accountability to do what they say, so why does that matter? They clearly print on the tithing donation slip: "...the Church may shift donations from any designated use to other uses, at its sole discretion"
Many homeless are homeless by choice: they refuse to take their meds or treat their mental illness other ways, they refuse to stop doing drugs, some literally have 6-figure salaries and choose it as a way to be cheap (a lot of them frequent various subreddits and brag about it), or they simply refuse to work and participate in society, etc.
Donating a few-tens-of-millions over 5 years is literally a drop in a bucket. The church is wallowing in a few-tens-of-BILLIONS per YEAR income stream, generated by that obscene 200~300+ billion dollar portfolio. According to The Widow's Mite, the church takes in about 7B in tithing each year, gets another 20~30B from investments, yet spends only about 6B on total expenses. They could REVERSE tithing 2 or 3 times over, and still have too much money to sensibly spend. Yet they drag out these absurd machines, just so they can squeeze another few bucks out of the sheep. It's frankly disgusting beyond words. 😡 Several people mention the prospect of matching donations. The $ required to do that wouldn't even qualify as a rounding error on the church's financial statement.
These two scriptures, when considered in their full and complete context are easily reconciled: Matthew 5 (KJV) 13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 6 (KJV) 1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. The first is about public good works, and the second is about private piety. Whether the Light the World with it's accompanying Giving Machine campaign is public good works or private piety, I suppose, is a matter of interpretation that would determine which passage applies, I suppose. Personally, I think the Giving Machine donations are private piety, but that's me. Call me crazy.

Exactly my thought! Why doesn't the church match everyone's donations?! That's when I'd think that the church was being generous.
MAGA Machines! All proceeds go to the grift!
Yes yes!!!
I'd really like to see the fine print involved. Gonna guess that "The Church reserves the right to distribute all moneys as they see fit."
I just give "my half" of tithing directly to true charities, bypassing LDS church.
A wise man!
Love to hear more from Spencer! The Waiting Outside the Temple Starter Kit was my very favorite gift idea!
A perfect time for the Church to do the giving !
Hello! Looking forward to getting more truth and light from Mormonish & Widow's Mite
How do we know these people are actually getting these services or is the church just throwing out #’s ?

I think they should only report the administrative costs as their charitable donation in this project.
Another crafty way to collect money.
"A message from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints"😂

Yes this church always wants to provide sound bites and cash but never want to get their hands dirty!
I wouldn't mind donating if they would match everyone's donations.

I’ll be donating to as many giving machines as I can.
Why so stupid?
Not stupid just want to help. Merry Christmas! 🎁
@@Slinkecat Sorry. I was rude. Same to you!
We think that is wonderful!
32:50 Tithing settlement, rewarded by a ticket to the temple. Keep it between you and God, skip man's reward.
Hey it’s Spencer, a great guest on LDS finance! Excellent topic and discussion.
They wont look after the homeless.poor.etc with tithing...what a crock..all pr..shameful..😢😢😢

The irony of opening the video description and seeing an ask for donations to your 501...
why is it ironic?
@RyanMercer
Comparing beavers to pigs.
MORMON JUSTIFICATION DEFAULT.
I’d much rather an entity be upfront asking for voluntary donations, rather than demand 10% in exchange for salvation.
@@HorizonSportsNutrition most religions have a form of tithing, even Islam.
@@RyanMercer that doesn't make tithing good

Hello ! Love this newscast
They have been brought to Christchurch New Zealand
Lions International does so much more across the world. And they have boots on the ground… I’m a proud Lion.

The real "giving machine" ought to be those casually sitting on 300 billion.

The left half of that PowerPoint was unnecessary. I would rather see your faces. ❤
If it was true, they wouldn't need advertising- word of mouth would be enough. Every member a missionary would actually be effective.
Wait is this episode from last year?
Yeah the notes say they’ve had so much interest in the subject, they’re reposting. 🤷♀️
Yes. It is still applicable and we have way more viewers this year so we reposted it.
What is wanted?😆
🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
It seems like you delayed releasing this episode for awhile since you are now a 501c and Spencer referred to the year 2024 as an upcoming year. Why?
It aired last year. They reposted it because of high interest in the topic.
Yes that is correct. Thank you for explaining.
Spencer sounds like Cultch.
