Thanks to devoted CarGuys viewer, Roger, this week Damian and Jason are driving for the first time, a magnificent Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster.
The softtop version of the reborn Mercedes Gullwing SLS has not seen as great an appreciation level since its launch in 2011 as the hardtop or the Black Series, and it now represents extraordinary value. It is after all, a largely bespoke Mercedes supercar with impeccable lineage, handsome lines, and quite the most brutal V8 engine from the masters at AMG.
What will TheCarGuys think of this car, given that they are staunch Gullwing fans? What’s it like to drive a near 600bhp SLS in the rain? Is it a better car than the SLR? What are SLS beans really like? And which would they buy - a hardtop or Roadster? All these questions and more will be answered in this week’s episode.

When the SLS came out I found it the best looking car on the market, still one of my most favorite cars.

The SLS AMG classic coupe is the most beautiful car ever made with the Gullwing 300 SL and Miura.

It is soooo much cooler but its double the price.

Agreed. But if I were going to spend the money, I think I'd buy the Roadster. I think it's the best looking Cabrio Mercedes have made in yonks and the current SL makes sure that it continues to be so.
We all love gullwings but it's the same damn car....paying double the price just for doors makes it overrated at this point.

My head tells me this is the better car. My heart tells me the SLR is the God of Thunder, and that's all that matters.
Plus I can always settle for an SL55 AMG when I inevitably don't have enough money for an SLR ;)

Curious Merc. Looks a classic already. The car needs the gull wings and thus the coupe but the cab sits pretty. Hmmmmmm. Cab cheaper too. Both tempting. Nice video lads.

Good to see you again Jason, but, what happened to last weeks episode? Really missed my Saturday morning Car Guys review. I got to drive a SLS AMG convertible a number of years back and I agree with all of your comments. My favourite AMG is the SL55 AMG. It’s a 200mph luxury GT if you get the limiter removed. Better fuel economy than the SLR and SLS. Maybe not as dramatic as the Gullwing SLS, but, still the same V8 roar and beanage ability.

At first I thought to myself that the visibility would be like looking out of a fortification at Normandy, but realized that would be politically incorrect to say publicly. Then you said it! That's one of the reasons I love your channel.
I actually think that the soft top is a better looking car. The hard top seems less 'sleek' Great video, as always!
I know someone who got a Gulling for around 80 k a good number of years back - you could say free motoring if he now sold .Beautiful car both variations but has to be the Gullwing - its not just the doors but how the body wraps around them that gives them the look .
Is it possible to pay a workshop to paint the lid the same AMG Le Mans Rot as the remainder of the chassis, if having the colorcode?
I have a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster that I adore. BONE STOCK, as it should be. Silver on red. Im keeping my miles down, still at 9200, which is tough because I want to drive it everywhere LOL. I shall not sell him, ever. We are a Merc family, my son and I...have some oddballs; 2013 SLK with a PROPER manual gearbox, 2 old ladie 1963s, one a coupe and one a sedan...two 1973 sedans, a GLK as well. In fact, why dont you guys come out to Scottsdale and MEET my son and I and see our Merc Herd❤️

Yeah its almost pretty much everything there EXCEPT what makes it VEEERY unique ,specially when you lose those explosive doors,thats alone is an amazing conversation piece.
I like how Jason said "there we are, Mclaren SLS roadster" at the end to test if we watched it all the way through!
