Acrylic Paint Pen on the Gel Plate - Using it in my Junk Journal

- Today on our ART Joy of Sharing LIVEstream channel I made a junk journal page using some experimental gel prints. I made the quote and the drawing of a bird using acrylic paint pens on my gel plates and then pulling the prints once the pen was dry.

This is now one of my favorites. The colors, the bird, the sentiment, the embellishments seamlessly coming together under your skillful hands. Love it!

Love your hummingbird! Before you were finished , I was thinking , boy that could use some shimmer on its cute little head... And you pulled out the very pen I was thinking of ! Lol. Just beautiful. TFS.
You must have sent me the great idea :) Thanks for watching Teresa.
Love that bird the most. All great though.
Thanks so much Lori 😊
Fascinating technique. It came out great and was a spectacular lesson in using your supplies in alternative ways. And simple for non-artists like me. ❤️
Have fun playing with the technique Kay 😊
Love that technique for the gel plate! Very cool pages.
Thanks so much :)
Love this! Your hummingbird is gorgeous!
Thank you so much Amy :)
This is beautiful.I did not realise how much you could do with these gel plates.I was a designer on a lot of different teams sometimes up to 6 at a time.I used to make cards. These plates had just started to get popular here in the U.K. about half way through my time designing. But I did not think it was my sort of thing because of what the others were doing with them.So really until I watched you I did not realise just how versatile they are and they are as great as your imagination. And one thing for sure your ideas and imagination is out of this world. That’s why I love watching you .You always surprise me more and more each time.Love n Light 🥰
Thank you Christine :) Yup..gel plates are just MADE for experimentation and pushing past what other people do. I love doing that LOL
Wow, I love this technique so much! Thank you for sharing. I'm trying this immediately. 🤩😃😉
Have fun with it Lilian :) Thanks for watching.

Thank you Judy 😊
Love this!
Thank you :)
oh - i came in late, i thought you had used a stencil for the writing too.. but no- you put it in the background of the gelli plate and then wrote over it with acrylic markers.. This is a great idea for us who are creatively scared to try- love it .
Have fun with it Daisy :)
Cool technique, thank you for sharing with us!
You bet! Thanks for watching :)
AWESOME!
Thank you :)
Hmmmm.... your experimentation has got me thinking... Shel C do you think you could use fabric paint or paint mixed with textile medium on the gel plate and then pull it off with say a tshirt or fabric of some kind?? Just love watching you do this..
Exactly the thing I was going for...inspiring people to experiment :) You can gel print on fabric and even use those lovely fabric paints on paper if you want. I have done that LOL Fabric is...tricky. It needs more paint so you need a heavier hand. Fabric is very absorbent.
🙂👍❤️
Thank you Starla :)
Hi! The bird is beautiful. I have a question. I us3d an acrylic paint pen on my gel plate tonight. Just some abstract swirls and such. I pulledva nice print but the marks from the pen ate staying on my plate even after successive pulls. Do you find that the paint pens "stain" your plate?
now I realize what I was doing wrong. I used liquid acrylic in a bottle not the tube kind which is thicker
For gel printing of any type I really do prefer the thicker tube types of paint. It rolls easier and doesn't slosh around on the plate. Also, dries quicker as it has less water in it :) Thanks for watching!
@@ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio I would wait for it to dry but it seemed the paper would fuse with the plate. It discouraged me. But I found a bunch of my daughter's paint tubes( not oil paints) so I'll try those
I really love this (and all your art/designs you do!). Your tutorials are fantastic. Can you share what size posca pens you used? I notice there are a few thicknesses to choose from and you mention fine tip but which 'fine' tip is it. Or can you recommend a size that is most universal. I love the idea of the lettering and detailing with poscas. Ta
Hi Julie :) I like the size they call fine. It is not the extra fine. Some of my others are called medium and not as easy to get into small spaces with. Then I have some really fat ones which are fun to mark make with. Here is a link to the ones I used the most. amzn.to/3tIQxC0
@@ShelCPaperOcotilloStudio great - thank you so much!
Very cool! Love the little journal/book you’re painting in. You mentioned you learn how to make it from Dina Wakley. Was this in a video? Would you happen to have a link to it? Many thanks.
Hi Nan :) I think it was a livestream or class...but I have a video of me making this tab bound book. ruclips.net/video/x7vC5r7PtfM/видео.html
