Your gel prints are unique and beautiful. I have watched hundreds of artists on RUclips show their ideas for gel printing, but out of all of them.... your prints are the absolute best. Please keep posting your gel printing techniques here on RUclips......... I don't "do" Facebook, so I will only see them here on RUclips !!!
Sorry to be asking on a two year old video, but I just found you thru Louise Fletchers Art Tribe interview and am enjoying watching your videos on youtube. My question: when I used my posca pens on my gel plate, they left a trace of whatever I wrote / drew on the gel plate that then continued showing up in anything I created on that gel plate… I couldn’t get it off with soap and water, with a paint pull or with wipes. I see lots of old marks like that on your plates too… don’t they keep showing up on prints? I can see letting them add to the general grunge sometimes. But if I want them off, how do I do it? Thank you! Looking forward to watching lots of your material!
Thank you for sharing Drew ! I love your artwork. Can you please tell me how you clean your plate when the posca marks stay on it ? I've tried it but the marks of the posca pens stay on the plate even after a lot of prints 😕
The paints should come off on the next few pulls if it didn't on the first. Sometimes it can stain the plate a bit, but that won't affect your following prints.
Because tissue paper is so thin and the paint acts almost like glue making the paper adhere to the plate much tighter than other thicker papers….if you let other papers sit in the plate for several minutes they too will be more difficult to pull - but also insures you pull all paint leaving a cleaner plate.
Hi again Drew - Can we revisit this mysterious process one more time? This time (probably the fourth time I’ve watched) I noticed that just after you finish putting water on the plate there’s an edit and the water disappears. How does that happen? I think that may be the secret ingredient in this technique. But I’ve been wrong before ;o) If I’m wrong this time too, I’ll be back in a few months with another question ;o) Thanks.
Looks like deli paper, which you can buy from Joggles.com, eBay and other places for $2 for 30 pieces of about 10x10 or a hundred sheets of 12x12 for about $10. Use the matte side.
Great technique! As for the video...uumm... next time please film in landscape mode. Also, even at 2x speed this was incredibly slow (& kinda painful) to watch
Thanks for watching! Please press the thumbs up and subscribe if you like my videos 👍

Very interesting techniques. Thanks ❤
Thank you! I do long for the day that we outlaw maddening music loops.
Great use of those thick tipped pens! Love it!

Love it - gonna have to get some thick paint markers!! Lovely ideas Drew, subscribed!
Awesome! Thank you!
I have tissue paper that has a smooth side and a softer papery side. Which side do you print on?
Why is it so hard to pull off the deli paper after printing?
Because tissue paper is so thin and the paint acts almost like glue making the paper adhere to the plate much tighter than other thicker papers….if you let other papers sit in the plate for several minutes they too will be more difficult to pull - but also insures you pull all paint leaving a cleaner plate.
What other kind of markers would work?
Any paint pen/marker that's water based/acrylic paint.
Can you use any acrylic marker?
Yes, you need to since you have to use acrylic paint on a gelatin plate. Posca pens work really well.

What is the brand of paint pens that you use? Are they alcohol-based? I love your work.
In response to another person, he mentions posca pens and that you need to use acrylic paint pens.

Hi Jill... I use regular cartridge/copy paper and tissue paper. The tissue is "Spectra Art Tissue" by Pacon.
Do you use an acrylic retarded for slower drying with your acrylics?
@@kathyryan7768 No, I just use the paint right out of the bottle.
