- I found a little chick that needed my help. If I wouldn't operate on her she would die within 48 hours. I knew how she could be saved, so I just had to bring her home.

It disgusts me how such a simple thing could have been done so much earlier for that chick. It took someone to purchase this poor thing to save her. If they had just wiped the poo off and not let it harden she wouldn't have almost died. It's insane to me how little people care. This man is pure, I'm telling you! Such a little life is still so precious to him!
Such chicks are breed and killed by the billions. If people would care then they wouldnt buy eggs or meat. At least not from supermarkets.

I have about 150 chickens. He was exhaling warm air on the chick, to comfort her and dry her. I do it too with my chicks and I have no beard

this just popped up on my recommended again and I just had to thank you! we got a bunch of chicks about last year (it was after I saw this video the first time) and one had pasty butt like that- and because of your video I knew what to do!!!!! YES! I've seen it in chicks and pet rats and intervention has rarely been successful. THANK you! I'm sure the release of pressure was a great comfort and saved it's life. And yes, we'd give baby chicks "a warm" which is where we cup them and breathe warm air onto them. You can see their eyes close and their little comfort peeps. Early intervention is essential before the flesh begins to die from the pressure. Thank you for saving her and sharing with us!

We have been through this too my mother used to put our chickens in such situation in a little warm water small bowl than keep the chicken inside for an hour than start doing the same procedure he has done. Speaking as a chicken owner, this is very easily taken care of when caught early. It doesn't have to get this severe, and it certainly doesn't have to be fatal. Bless this man for being so knowledgeable and caring for these animals. And thank you for taking her home with another chick!

@@foechicken8023rileylastname it's called pasty butt, a silly name for something that can quickly become serious. It pretty much happens when their poop doesn't fall off and clings to their feathers or when they sit in their own feces and it begins to collect. This is easily solvable by using warm soapy water and gentle circular motions to work it out. Of course you want to be sure to dry and warm little baby so he doesn't get sick!
@@MauricioNestor if you eat commercially farmed chicken, it's part of life. 25 million chickens are butchered daily in the US. They don't have poo pickers.

This is pasty butt, common in chicks all the original owners had to do was remove it before it even built up this much. That's part of maintenance of having chicks. 🤦🤦 Keeping up with their water intake is also important for their first 14 days of life. I'm glad he was able to save this one since the original owners clearly had no idea.
Yeah, I’m shocked that at a chicken show nobody had taken care of that! I’ve had countless chicks arrive with some pasty butt. Especially if it was cold when they ship them!
@@animaanimus8011 it's easy to spot when it begins if your maintaining then correctly. I have always checked chicks I've had daily to make sure they drink water and don't start getting pasty butt.

We have chickens , my 2 daughters call themselves the farmer helpers .. always finding the baby chicks that fall behind , lost or hurt.. so I’m glad I saw this incase we ever have a plugged one 🙏🏻 I think it’s the food they gave them because I’ve lived in a farm with chickens for about 30years and never seen anything like this one

This is called “Pasty butt” it is a big danger to chicks at a very young age, but can easily be avoided by anyone who can foster them and it’s easy to do so, though this one has gone too far from that window of time, and needs special care

👏👏 Sadly, this pasty butt issue is common especially in feed stores. I'm known in my town as the Crazy Chicken Lady because I take chicks out of the local store brooder, whisk them to the bathroom and clean their bottoms. Yes, it's weird but I've seen too many lying dead that didn't have to be. I just LOVE these videos so much! He's a hero in my eyes. ♥️🐤

Ada Mant It's caused by the stress of shipping. It's sad that it happens, but it's easily fixed before it gets this bad. For any of mine that end up with it, I just clean them with a wet rag and dab some vaseline on their little bums so it doesn't happen again. You have to keep checking but after the first week they're usually good.

I think he was heating the chicken so he could keep him warm after the water he used. And to soften up the poo to help get it out

Oh goodness seeing them both grown and roaming is what got me!
I've known a couple birds that faced this issue. From large, free flight aviaries where it wasn't that visible, and they were generally acting normal. One passed away abruptly, but the other thankfully had weakened to where he was on the ground and was picked up. His poop was all liquid but stuck inside, pasted only a tiny bit. I knew if he hadn't outwardly shown he was sick like he did that he would've died in the next couple days like the other bird. I'm so grateful for his life that he was able to be saved. Couldn't stop thinking about him during this video of this poor little lady that gets to thrive because of some effort and TLC.

@e fred where do you live out of interest? Bottled water can be pennies in the UK. 13p for a 2litre bottle. Even from a proper spring it's really cheap, can be as low as 17p a litre. Personally I drink tap water but no one needs more than 2litre a day really.

I don't understand that either. Like, so many people and animals are being fed until they can't walk anymore on their own and the way for it become it that way takes a VERY long time but they seem only to act when it's almost too late.

It doesn't always work like that. Sometimes their vents get clogged from the inside and just a little poo gets out, making it look like they can still use the bathroom while the inner clog gets worse
Most people dont view them as individuals who's life has a meaning, they are treated like objects

It is always good to see clips of someone who has an obvious love of animals.
It is commonly called pasty butt and not that uncommon especially in overcrowded conditions.
If you stick it's back side in a cup/bowl of warm water until it penetrates and softens all the poo you can then use the sprayer at your kitchen sink at a low pressure spray the rehydrated poo gently, again with slightly warm water and it should start washing away. If it is stubborn you can squirt a little Dawn on the backside and with either a gloved hand or q tips, if squeamish, gently massage the Dawn into the soft poo and then gently spray again with warm water. Repeat as needed until clean and aid with expressing internal contents if needed. This will be much more gentle and produce less pain then prying the still hard feces off their backside and ripping out some of their fluff.
Some people will then use a blow-dryer on the lowest heat and air setting to dry them off which is much more sanitary and reduces the possibility of fecal contamination to the human then getting your lips next to their body which even if you don't press lips against the little body as you try to warm them up you can inhale airborne fecal matter (anyone heard of avian flu?).
It's also a good practice to keep an eye on them for the next few days to make sure they don't get their bottom sealed up again with poo and if they do it can be cleaned off before it causes any problems.
Safety for both animal and human is always a good practice.
